Excellent Vacation Rental

Tons of linens and towels. Great appliances and cooking utensils. It is very large. Sleeps 6 with 2 bathrooms. Absolutely wonderful view from the lanai watching the waves and surfers. Sound of the ocean puts you to sleep at night. Pictures on the net are exactly what you get when you arrive. Very comfortable. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend this condo. ”

Air conditioning was a little tricky to figure out as well but after the cleaning lady came, it worked great (but we never did find out what she did). Lanai was wonderfully relaxing. It is a very nice condo in a very nice complex. The condo has many amenities that give the feeling of home. The owner has provided a fully equipped kitchen including a variety of spices and cleaning supplies. Even the knives were very sharp which is highly unusual. The complex is very clean, quiet and with good security. I inadvertently opened my trunk from inside the condo and was surprised when security knocked on the door to inform me of the situation. ”

All emails were answered right away, directions to the condo were precise and everything was in order when we arrived (keys, code etc) The condo was clean and extremely well equipped with everything from kitchen to beach amenities. The view is over looking the golf course and we found it very calming and peaceful...not a clue what hole we overlooked. If one is up early the golf course makes for a lovely walk or run and, in the evening watching the spectacular sunsets. The only downside for me was not being close to a beach. The beach was within about a 10 min drive. ”

“ This is a great place. It is very clean, modern and has almost all of the comforts of home. The kitchen is better stocked than most other vacation apartments that we've rented. In hindsight, a more complete list on the Web site of exactly what is here might be useful, as there were some things we brought that were already in the condo. It was a nice touch to have someone turn on the lights and the stereo softly for our arrival. It was very nice to have a washer and dryer. The stereo and TVs were in great working order, as advertised. We LOVED the automatic ice maker and little cooler. They were both very useful for packing drinks and keeping food cool for day trips. We also used the bamboo mats on the beach - much better than towels and better at keeping residual sand out of the condo. Another thing that we really appreciated was the binder on the coffee table with great info and the Hawaii Revealed Book. The adult pool is the only one we used and it was very clean and well maintained. We were a little disappointed the ocean pool was closed for renovations but c'est la vie. The only problem we had was mosquitoes in the bedroom at night. The screens on both sliding doors, as well as the one over the bed need a little adjustment and we were wakened by buzzing around our heads and had to get up and do a mosquito hunt. The proximity to all the necessary services is excellent. The staff, from the security gate to the grounds staff to the house cleaner were all very friendly and helpful. One night that we had to call security to remind some very noisy people out by the barbecue pit that quiet time was in effect at 10pm. The security people responded immediately and the noise stopped minutes after that call. Great service. We certainly recommend this facility. ”

“ The condo was a super deal, $640 total for 5 nights. We liked the fact that the owner included good quality snorkeling equipment for our benefit. The place was old and in need of renovation but clean. The pillows were quite cheap,hard and uncomfortable. Also, quite a bit of noise from the condo next to ours (ground floor unit) but obviously no reflection on our unit. Overall, excellent value for the money. The photos accurately reflected the interior so no surprises upon arrival. ”

Two days after completing our reservation we contacted the owner that we needed to lessen the stay from eight nights to seven. Since we were in the no refund range, we did not get a refund for that day. We understand the policy. We also understand how repeat business works. ”

They have tennis courts, 3 pools (one that is for adults only, YEY!!), near shopping and cinema, less than 2 miles from a great beach, Kanaluu. This trip we were looking for a smaller condo than last time and found condo #1203. The condo was awesome: Big, well supplied and appointed, clean, comfortable. We spent a wonderful week in Kona scuba diving, swimming in the pool and lounging around. The bed was super comfortable as well. The gentleman renting the condo was very kind and easy to work with. There is a good binder with all the information you need at the condo. I highly recommend this condo #1203 and complex. This is a really nice place so treat it well! ”

Extreme Courtesy

“ After booking the condo unit for my mother in law for a wedding in Kona, we had some extreme circumstances come up. The bride was diagnosed with breast cancer and was starting treatment immediately. With under a month to go we were forced to cancel the plans, I was treated with sympathy and gracious hospitality, as the booking agent offered to give my mother in law the room at a later date even though it was within a month. Later in the week the booking agent called back and happily left a message saying that they were able to book out the room and we would get a refund in full. We will definately stay there on our next visit to Kona and recommend it based on the Extreme Courtesy we received! ”

“ Rented this condo for 2 weeks but only stayed in it for one - not because of the condo but because of the VOG which was terrible at the time. We found the condo to be reasonably comfortable and quite well equipped although much of the outdoor equipment that the owner has left for guests to use was in poor condition. My wife complained that the condo was not very clean - I believe the word she used was "disgusting" - although I found it not bad myself. It could have used a good dusting and a little more attention in the closets and bathroom. The photos that the owner has posted represent the condo fairly. Outside, the grounds are nice and well maintained - we did not use the pools. The lanai furniture was a little scary - we placed towels over it before sitting down so our clothes wouldn't get dirty. The location is not bad - very close to a good shopping centre and to Kailua-Kona - and there is a nice, if short, shoreline path surrounding the property but no place for safe ocean entry. Overall, we give it a "just okay". ”

“ We really enjoyed the condo. Sitting on the lanai as the sun rose and the waves lapped (or crashed) at the shore was my favorite part of our stay. The condo has a very well equipped kitchen. We liked the fact that there are 2 bathrooms but they could use a bit of modernizing. We also liked having the hard-wired internet access in the condo so that we could stay in touch with family and check our home town and sports news. The condo is on the second floor, with a set of about 15 stairs to get to it. This could be a problem for poeple with mobility issues. The resort is located just down the road from a large shopping centre with a grocery store, drug store, restaurants and shops. We used many of these services on multiple occasions. We have already recommended the condo to friends and we will continue to do so. ”

Living in a lush, tropical garden with an ocean view

“ We loved condo 3403 with its ample space, tasteful furnishings, and two lanais: one overlooking the lapping waters of the bay, and the other with tropical flowers and a clear view of our rental car. The condo is a short drive from a shopping center with a grocery store, a full-service post office, banks, several restaurants, etc. It is also close to the Kona Country Club where we were able to golf the ocean course. We took several day trips along the southern coast, up the northern Kohala Coast and the beaches, to Hawi and the extreme north coast, and over the mountain to Waimea. We also managed a few beach days and some time to enjoy the pools at the resort. All breakfasts and most dinners were leisurely enjoyed in our condo. We hated to leave and would return here in a minute. Al, the owner, was helpful and receptive to our needs. Great place to stay! One can never do justice to the Big Island in just a week. We'll be back! ”

Great Location- Great Vacation

“ This is a well placed condo, with a nice view and sounds of the ocean in a small cove, a few hundred feet beyond the lawn. We rented from the owner through alohaCondos.com (great web site!). Very good value at $99 night plus $125 cleaning fee. All the comforts of home, plus extras that other guests had left. The unit is somewhat dated but everything was clean and worked (the vertical blinds can be a challenge though). Well stocked with kitchen utensils and pans, and an outdoor barbeque just steps from the front door. The main noise we experienced was from the rental unit above (we called that flat footed family "the elephants"). We often had the pool all to ourselves; the adult pool is a special treat with extra warm water for evening swimming. The recent tsunami cleared out a lot of vegetation in the cove (no damage to the condos which are up on a rocky bluff) so the view is even better now and a gravel beach has emerged which you can walk down to and swim/snorkel. We've stayed at Kanaloa at Kona three times before and this resort is our favorite location, very convieniently placed for the grocery store and the fabulous snorkeling a 5 minute drive away at Kahalu'u beach and the world class snorkeling sites 30 minutes to the south. We'll be back! ”

We received the morning sun and shade in the afternoon which allowed us to enjoy the lanai for the whole day. The two areas that needed repair were the fridge that leaked and the ensuite toilet which also leaked. We felt there could have been a few more drinking glasses. ”

Too good to be true

“ My wife and I were amazed at the value which was presented to us by staying two weeks at this condo. It far surpassed our expectations. The view of the bay was spectacular as well as soothing to listen to. All possible dinnerware and cookware were provided. Cable modem for computer use was a big plus. The multiple pools both normal and hot/Jacuzzi were immaculate. Bbqs were located everywhere. The physical location of the complex is very well situated. I really can't say enough good things about this rental. I must mention a small minus though. Sleeping beyond 6:30am is almost impossible because of the property staff preparing the adjecent pool area for daily use. Their conversations were heard as if they were in the bedroom with us. Still I would stay here again anytime knowing that scenario. ”

“ This was my family's second trip to The Big Island and second stay at Kanaloa at Kona. We loved the unit we stayed in during our 2005 trip, but #1801 was even better! Well furnished, clean, provided beach gear (except for an ice chest...but no worries, we bought one and left it in the beach locker for future visitors). All of the beds were comfortable and kitchen was well equipped - including basic spices and condiments. The unit has an awesome lanai with a perfect view of the ocean. It is a one story unit (previous one we had stayed in was two story). We preferred this as we didn't have to bring groceries up the stairs in 1801. My family plans another visit to The Big Island again in 2012 and we will stay in unit 1801 ”

“ We stayed there with my 80 years-old parents, who've never seen sunset on the ocean before. We have two girls as well. Three generations stayed this beautiful place. We all very much enjoyed everything until the last day. We were waiting for our swimming suits to dry in the dryer, and the house-keeper came one minute before 11:00 am. They were a bit rude. They came, and one opened the working dryer, my cloth fell on the floor and she used her dirty hand to pick up and threw it back to the dryer. It was a little thing, but it ruined our otherwise wonderful experience at 1801. I only wish the house keeper be well trained and have some good manners. We had very beginning to be there, and pleasant stay, but unsatisfied ending. Mahalo! ”

It was not possible to view selected channels do to the age of the TV where as the TV in the master bedroom could view the same channels just fine. If I were the owner of 1801 I would be very concerned about unit 1803 on the second floor. Every time the washing machine in 1803 was used the water pipes had a very severe "pipe knock." It was violent. This is due to poor plumbing design. It will eventually lead to cracked pipes and result in considerable water damage to both units 1803 and 1801. ”

The one thing that freaked me out and took away a bit of the beauty was the rules one needed to follow to keep nasty creatures out. And seeing the ultra raid can. I was pretty scared that I would see or have to deal with one of your nasty centipedes or anything else on the list posted. I couldn't relax as much worrying about that and hoping their weren't any in the bed or to make sure they would not get into our luggage. Our centipedes can be killed with a fly swatter here. The fact that one lady there told me that she had to kill one with a scissors made me sick actually. And the fact that the have such a nasty bite. I hate ours in WI, but they are much smaller and don't bite. I just never knew I would have to deal with or think about that.But I guess warning your guests is better than them being surprised and knowing what to do to help them stay away. Staying in a condo was much better then staying in a hotel space wise and for the view, but I was just praying I could get back on the plane home and have said I never saw anything on the list. And thank god I didn't. And that you actually have to keep all food in the frig. I just don't know if I could live like that. But the place was very very clean. I was afraid to keep the windows open even with it being nice out fear that there would be a better chance of creatures getting in. The whole complex though seemed to be well taken care of. And was nice to have the tour guide right on the complex. I got hurt on Kauai so I never got to enjoy your wonderful pools. ”

“ 1801 is a spacious condo with an oustanding panoramic view. The unit sits right on the "beach",abuts against coastal lava rock and is oriented such that there is complete privacy on the lanai. Crashing waves, smell of the sea, sunsets---really, who wouldn't love that? The complex is nicely situated geographically if you have teenagers since it is easy to walk to downtown Kona, surfing, swimming. Master BR is roomy and uncluttered with a large high quality flat screen TV that also houses a DVD player. Smaller bedroom is indeed a smaller bedroom. Two beds. Little else. Would work very well with younger children. We had two teenage boys. Thankfully, overcrowding in that room led to bloodshed only once. Kitchen is good sized, plenty of "stuff." Living room furniture is outdated, seating is limited and couch/chairs are not particularly comfortable. Older TV, maybe 30 inches with picture quality consistent with an older TV that is 30 inches. This room is not totally unacceptable in a vacation locale where being outside is the attraction, but upgrading the living room furnishings to a much more comfortable, perhaps even a present century decor would be ideal. If you feel like coming back to a cool condo after a hot day in the sun (in August) look elsewhere. The air-conditioning system, for which you pay a surchage, is completely ineffective. Running 24/7 kept the temperature approx 78-80 degrees at night, 85 or so during the day. Without a doubt, this was the most disappointing aspect of the home. In summary, great oceanfront location tucked into a private corner of the complex with a magnificent view; many nice features, but sorely in need of a cash infusion to repair/replace air conditioning and update living area furnishings. These upgrades would easily make this unit outstanding inside and out, rather than a unit you'd find simply acceptable in exchange for its marvelous setting just feet from the Pacific. ”

The 2nd bedroom good-sized too. (There is also a pull-out bed in living room) It is a very quiet area, so with the windows open, you could hear the waves at night. At night, it was cool and very comfortable. During the day, it was warm, but not bad at all. None of us minded, we weren't in Hawaii to be in a/c the whole time. The furnishings were very nice. There is a kid-friendly pool and adults-only pool on the property. As we only went to the kid-friendly one, I can tell you it was very nice and never crowded. The grounds were very well maintained. There is a grill very close to the condo as well. It really was perfect and it felt like you were coming home when you came back to the condo. The next time we come to the big island, we will stay here. ”

There were some beach chairs and stuff to borrow & we left the boogie board we bought. The kitchen was well outfitted, although we brought a few sharp knives for cooking. If you kitchen clean with a cloth, not sponge, bring one with you. There's a coffee maker that needs #4 filters. They need a few more smaller acrylic glasses for pool/small kid use, but plastic cups can be bought at the store too. There's a nice gas bbq and grassy area with table/chairs not too far away for those eat-in days. The tennis courts are in good shape. The pools are never busy, but the pool nazi leaves you in the dark without warning after posted hours. There's no beach right there, but not too bad a drive. Washer/dryer is helpful for beach towels. We'll be here next time we're in HI! ”

Spotlessly clean and comfortable. Incredibly well appointed, from beach towels to boogie boards, everything we needed was there. When the only suggestion for improvement I can think of is a third towel bar in the second bathroom, you know they thought of everything! Comfortably fit the five of us, and the huge bright kitchen was a major plus. This condo was hard to leave! Every member of our family fell in love with the place. The complex is very nice, beautifully landscaped. The staff that we interacted with were professional. The ocean pool is lovely. Units do not have Bbqs, but there is a great high-end shared gas grill just a few steps from the unit. I did wish that there were easier access to a beach where we could walk in the waves. The shoreline at the complex is extremely rocky, and the water itself is not easily accessed from the units. However, this unit is probably the very best in the complex for excellent view and ultimate privacy, with the sound of the waves being the only noise we heard. Kathy was very helpful in the planning our trip. Thank you! We'll definitely be back. ”

While the mattress was very comfortable, the box springs must be extremely old. The springs creaked every time we turned over in the bed. It was extremely noisy. I like to get up early and my husband likes to sleep in. I was unable to get out of bed without waking him every morning. We used ear plugs the rest of the week but it didn't completely drown the noise. Other than that, it is an unbelievable condo, with absolutely gorgeous views. The lanai was my favorite place every morning. And it is a wonderful place to watch the stunning sunsets over the ocean. We would definitely stay here again. ”

Decoratating was lovely- tropical without looking tacky. Nice to have the air conditioning (extra charge for this). Kitchen was well stocked. The three pools were nice, One disappointment- no workout room. There was lots to do on the island and we would definitely come back. ”

All have been very enjoyable; however, unit 1804 has been the best - by virtue of location, being ocean-front, and unit decor, furnishings, and maintenance. I keep saying I'll be very happy to just stay and relax at this condo for the vacation, but activities invariably draw us out. Kanaloa at Kona is a wonderful location in the Keauhou Resort area of the Kona Coast. It's only 15 minute drive to Kailua-Kona town; and less than 5 minutes to one of the best snorkeling beaches (Kahalu'u Beach Park)along the Kona coast. The location is also 5 minutes from the Fair Wind and Sea Paradise snorkeling boat operations. We've also stayed at the Waikoloa area that's about 20-25 miles north of Kailua Kona, but the recent growth of condos in that area has greatly increased the population density. And it's usually windy there - the local nickname is "Waikablowa." And, the Waikoloa location assures you a 30-45 minute drive to come to town - or to get anywhere. So, our recommendation, when asked, is to stay at Kanaloa at Kona in the Keauhou Resort area, in unit 1804 if it's available. ”

The sliders to the deck are all but unusable, the light fixtures and/or lights are not working in about 10% of the place, the blinds need repair, the ceiling fan in the master bedroom is noisy at certain desirable speeds and the refrigerator may need coolant topped off (it refused to work for the first 12 hours we were there - following a shutdown - I suspect due to a "vapor lock" in the coolant system that resolved itself in the cool of the night). The property manager was helpful in bringing ice to keep our food cool until the system kicked in. With appropriate repairs this would be a prime rental within Kanaloa - which is a prime complex. We have stayed in various condos here over the years. This was probably in the worst condition even though it is in a prime spot. ”

It also has the convenience of a local manager who could not be more attentive. (although we never needed to call him) When you compare the space and all the amenities, any hotel/motel or B&B; pales by comparison. You will not believe the enormous shower facilities for two or more. Diane and Mark have done a terrific job with maintenance and cleanliness. Everyone who stays here seems to respect the condo and take care of it as their own. This is our favorite place on our favorite island. “ This is the second time that we have stayed in this unit and as before, it was great. The location of this property suits our style and this particular unit fits our needs. Hence we have a place that we are comfortable with and will return to. We have stayed in Kona several times and have gravitated to this facility primarily due to its ocean front pool. The barbeque area is very handy and we used it a lot. Though there was maintenance being done on the structure we were staying in, the crew was very considerate and the noise was not a distraction. The grounds are well maintained. Though there are 3 pools with one being designated as "family" we still had some noisy young kids disrupt us and 5 other adult couples at the ocean pool on a couple of afternoons. Bad timing. Diane has done a great job of outfitting her unit and there is not anything that this kitchen or space needs. We were able to stay in touch with home using the Wi-Fi and though we did not turn it on, it has a nice TV. The view from the lanai is spectacular and a great place to have morning coffee and enjoy dinner. If you like laughing at golfers, this place can't be beat as you can see just how serious some of these people take this "sport" and how poor they are at it. I will stay here again and would recommend it to adult couples. I would not recommend it to families or more than one couple. Keohou is a very quiet part of Kona so if you are looking for "action" this is not the place; in fact you have to drive almost everywhere. We are both fit and could walk to the shopping center for small needs and really enjoyed our walks/runs along the ocean road. ”

“ Stayed many times in Kailua-Kona, and at Kanaloa. 1603 by far the best condo available for two people. On the golf course Hole # 12 the Ocean Course and the Ocean was beautiful right there off the veranda. Sunsets every night from the balcony, ocean crashing,within 30 to 40 feet from the condo. We are going back again and again. The owners were delightful to deal with, welcoming goodies, flat screen TV and WiFi. Golf expensivefor non residents. ”

 

nicely upgraded, but hot and noisy

Your complaint is the first we can recall receiving about our condo in all the years we have owned it. We just wish you had contacted us or our on-island contact during your stay so we could have helped make things right. We do our best to provide a great experience for our guests and in the rare instances when issues arise, we respond as quickly as possible to make things right.

The retired couple who live in the condo above ours in Kanaloa are wonderful people and are very considerate and very approachable. In the particular week that you stayed with us, they had grandchildren visiting. Guests in our condo are instructed to contact our on-island contact or to contact us directly if they have any issues and if you had done so, we would have immediately contacted our neighbors to have them address the issue. The neighbors were unaware of the issue until after you had left.

We do not have AC in our condo in large part because it is so rarely needed. As our many regular guests can attest, the condo faces west and north and opens out onto the ocean and golf course and there is exceptional airflow through the condo from the front lanai out to the back of the condo, especially when the trade winds are blowing. Most of our guests love to have the condo open and listen to the ocean and feel the ocean breezes at night. We can understand how you might have wanted to close up the place because of the noise issue you experienced. Again we are sorry that you had this issue and only wish that you had contacted us as soon as it occurred so we could have made it better while you were staying with us.

It was a beautiful condo with a great view of the ocean-- always a breeze- did not miss the AC. We ate breakfast on the balcony/porch overlooking the golf course and ocean. There are neat gekkos on the grounds, as well as a mongoose that I saw several times outside the window. Cool birds too--liked the saffron finches (they will come for bread crumbs on the railing). I think it is too rocky to swim right at the condo (did not try though) We went snorkeling several times next to the Hawaiian Village Park (can't remember the name)-- it was spectacular with honu, spinner dolphins and loads of fishes. I thought that the snorkeling around Kona was better than Oahu or Kauaii (2007 trip). The kayak trip (Kona Boys surf shop rental) to the Captain Cook memorial is probably even better snorkeling fish-wise. The last day there I went snorkeling at Kona on a public beach and saw 6 turtles in about 45 minutes- (had to leave that day) it was way cool. We did not really find it until the last day, but there is a spot to rent kayaks right near the condo - take a left before you turn in to the development. ”

The view of the ocean from the Lani was the greatest and the location and suroundings was really pleasent and very safe. I have recommended it to others and we hope to return some day. Not for print: Unfortunately we were there when the tempuratures were high and the condo was too warm for me. Fortunately the cooler breeze in the evening allowed us to sleep. We did not go out to dinner because I could not apply makeup to sweaty skin. I would have paid more for airconditioning on a timer. Also, I was not too happy to see that we had to drag our luggage up and down the stairs with no help of any kind of mechanical cart. We are both over 60 and it ws very hard for us. We unloaded most and carried it up out of the suitcase. some kind of a juggage cart would have helped. One could drag and the other could push. ”

A new home on the Big Island

We never found anything that was in our price range and actually had good reviews. Then, while talking about the planning of our honeymoon at work, a co-worker told me about this condo and how nice the owners were. So, my wife and I checked out the pictures and were hooked. The master-shower is HUGE! One of the things that I never noticed was that there was a trail between the rocks on the beach and the golf course. You have to walk towards one of the pools (the one near the beach) to gain access to that trail. It's a nice place to take a stroll during the day/night. We were able to see some whales swimming up the coast on the first night of our stay (it was whale season). One of the other things I didn't realize is that there is a restaurant in the actual complex. My wife and I had lunch there twice and really enjoyed it. I believe they close pretty early, so you want to at least just try to have breakfast or lunch. The restaurant is located near the path that you can take to get out onto the trail near the beach(the beach side pool). The owners are great people to talk to and deal with. It feels almost like you're staying at a friend's home for the week(at least that's how long we stayed). I will be recommending this condo to anyone who wants to stay in a nice/quiet condo that overlooks the ocean. I'm basically going to call this place my own home because I will stay here every time I go to the Big Island. ”

We were able to walk up the golf course in the evenings and all was peaceful and tropical. The drawbacks are that we didn't want and didn't have air conditioning, but many of the neighbors did and the noise was disturbing at night with our windows open. Also, someone smoked in the condo below us and the smoke came into our place. The vog was a problem and most days were cloudy in Sept. by late morning and we has to go north of Kona to find sunshine. Once we figured that out, it wasnt a problem. We'd go there again. It was a nice place, but probably at a different time of year. ”

The condo looks just like the web photos and the view from the lanai really is fantastic! We got some great sunset video with the HD camera. One of the best things is that you get to park close to your condo in covered parking! Woo hoo! Not like at those resorts where you are miles away from your car and the items you left behind in it. The condo has new appliances including a washer and dryer which come in very handy. The condo is perfect for a couple, but 1 or 2 kids could sleep on the murphy bed. I wasn't about to cook a thing, so we bought some great take-out to eat on the lanai for dinner a couple of times. There is a grocery store, decent pizza and Thai food, a movie theater and a drug store with 1 hour photo about a 5 minute drive away. The Keauhou Beach resort has a yummy breakfast buffet and snorkeling close by (although this reef is now being protected due to years of damage). Costco and Walmart are 20 minutes away. The condo offers comfy beach chairs, fluffy beach towels and a cooler for use at the beach along with three drawers full of a variety of books to read so you don't have to worry about any of that. In fact we had people at a local music event on the lawn of the "Palace" ask where we got our comfortable looking chairs! The HD TV screen was great for watching our videos and photos each night to recap the day! The owners also sent a lovely welcome basket which was a nice touch! The vog was not bad at all, so don't let tales of bad air quality scare you away from this island. I have terrible asthma and never had one problem. It did rain some, but hey...it's an island...If the sky looks a little cloudy, all you have to do is drive North to Hapuna Beach. This is truly a "Big Island" that has it all! Kanaloa #1603 was the perfect place to return to at the end of each day. ”

We liked that the pool is ocean front and the golf course being so close gives you expansive views that you normally would not get from a unit that is not right on the ocean front. The unit may be a little hot in the warmer months since it does not have air conditioning. This was not an issue for us when we were there in late November and early December. We look forward to coming back here on our future trips to Kona and I have recommended it to my friends that are going to Kona. ”

Actually it was tough for me to not just sit there for hours(!) and watch the waves and see the kayakers, paddlers, fishing boats and charters ply the waters in front of us. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales, but this would be the perfect viewing spot when they do come. We'll have to plan to come back and stay a lot longer next time. Four days was just not enough. ”

“ We had a great time exploring the island from our temporary home. The condo was spacious and clean with nice Zen touches. We loved siting on the lanai and hearing the ocean throughout the day. We used the binoculars to check for dolphins which we saw one afternooon.The condo had boogie boards, towels, and a cooler we used for the beach (also some pails, etc. for younger kids). The second bedroom had 2 beds so our kids (boy and girl) each had their own bed. There were ceiling fans in all the rooms so we could cool the condo off when it was warm. We paid for the air conditioning and we did use it about half the nights b/c of humidity, but tried to limit it, partly because we liked to hear the ocean and feel the breeze when there was one. There was some equipment in the closet of the 2nd bedroom for smaller children (a high chair I think, and some toys, possibly a playpen). I like having a washer and dryer (detergent provided) so we didn't have to bring as many clothes with us. There were also some games and Dvd's available which was great.There were several books available for reading and with info. on the Big Island for helping plan what you wanted to do. My husband loved playing the ukelele! He plays the violin at home so it was great for him to have an instrument available to play. We really like this condo and felt very relaxed there. ”

This condo is outstanding in every way - oceanfront (a rarity on the Big Island), private, quiet, elegantly furnished and spotlessly clean. There were numerous thoughtful, small touches - books to read, games, candles (we enjoyed several lovely candlelit dinners on the oceanfront deck), viewing telescopes, etc. This is a two bedroom, two bath unit and is quite spacious. The master bedroom and bathroom are quite large and there is plenty of storage for golf bags, snorkel gear, etc. The grounds at Kanaloa are well maintained. There are grills conveniently located nearby and the pools are clean (although they are small). We booked through Aloha Condos (for the second time); they are professional and quite straighforward. We had no interface with the Outrigger Kanaloa office, so I cannot comment there. We can't wait to return to Unit 2002! Enjoy... ”

The Best Family Vacation

“ After spending 10 days at Kanaloa at Kona unit #2002, no one wanted to come home. This condo came with everything we could have asked for and then some. In the kitchen there were plenty of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, spices and even a coffee grinder for our morning Kona coffee. There were beach towels, coolers, chairs, boogie boards, snorkel's and many other beach toys for us to use. Our two boys ages 13 and 9 shared one of the beadrooms and bathrooms and had plenty of room to spread out. Our bedroom was very spacious and had more than enough space to put our things. I had every intention of using the jacuzzi tub in the evenings but could never tear myself away from the most amazing views we had from our lanai. Three sets of binoculars from the condo gave us all plenty of time to watch the whales jump in the water and whatever else happened to catch our eyes each day. We as a family spent a couple of hours every night out on our lanai, listening to the waves, watching the boats, and playing games such as yahtzee, dominoes and cards. These games were in our condo when we got there. What a great idea. Anyone with middle aged children will understand what I mean when I say it was great to get back to the basics. Things get so crazy back home with school, sports, and all the activities, that it was so nice to have family time again. The boys loved it and so did we. We used the pools at Kanaloa several times as our youngest found out that sea urchins kind of freak him out a bit so the ocean was not his best friend. We played tennis, grilled out on the BBQ's, and enjoyed the virgin lava flows from the restaurant and bar at Kanaloa. There is a big screen T.V. in the living room that we turned on only a couple of times to watch the big Island channel and the weather. The washer and dryer were also very usefull. Whenever we return to Hawaii, this will be the only place we will stay at as it was nothing less than spectacular. ”

Almost perfect

“ This is a classy, well-furnished and appointed, beautifully located, quiet, private unit situated right on the ocean. We spent many restful hours listening to the crashing surf and observing the canoe and kayak 'traffic' from the lanai. The downside was that our refrigerator failed after several days; we were told the frig had known problems and needed to be defrosted and was due for replacement. We were told to perform our own defrosting which we did, then cleaned up afterward ourselves. We were able to save some of our food in ice chests but also lost some of the more fragile items which we had to replace at our cost. When asked if we could extend our 10-day stay on departure day by several hours, we were told 'no'. The excuse was that someone else had rented the unit for our departure evening; however, the website booking calendar showed the unit as free. The only draw back is that although it is a beautiful setting we had to drive to beaches but we knew this before going so it was not an issue for us and almost a safety feature for having 8 grandchildren together by the water. ”

The location is fantastic--excellent snorkeling within walking distance & just a 5 minute drive to downtown Kona. My only reservation was the sounds/noise heard from other guests staying at htis complex. We were on the second floor, and therefore heard noise from below & above. Our downstairs neighbors complained to us about our noise! And, believe me, all we did was walk gently. Its just the way the buildings are built. The buildings have no air conditioning which is not really necessary for temperature control (wonderful ocean breezes), but for noise control, it would have been nice to close the windows at night. Also, we were there during the busiest time of year (Christmas, 2011). I suspect that during less busy times, there is less noise. Having said that, I still really love this place. Next time I'll bring my ear plugs. ”

We loved to go into town for shopping and dining and enjoyed coming back to our quiet resort. This condo is amazing. The view from the wrap around covered porch took my breath away. It was my favorite part of the condo. The furniture was soft, comfortable and placed to see an ocean view from every seat. The kitchen was a pleasure to cook in and was masterfully designed with the large granite island and countertops. The best of everything was put into this kitchen. The beds and baths were immaculately kept and very comfortable. I especially liked the deck and windows open to the ocean breezes at night. The owner, Jay was extrememly efficient and pleasant. He answered every question I had in no time at all. I had left some personal items there at the condo and I contacted him and he was on it and they were shipped to me immediately. That says a lot to his character and his passion for his rental and clients. I will come back to this exact unit and if you are looking for a condo in Kona look no more, you found it. ”

I loved the fact that they had some flippers that we could borrow. Hope I don't convince too many people to book here because we would love to come back. Fyi - the master bedroom is separated from the living area by shoji sliding screens. This gives it less of a private feel than a full wall. The second bedroom is more private. ”

Overall, the condo was very well equipped for guests to enjoy the island vacation. One thing that bothered me was that the coffee machine didn't look very clean. Maybe just mineral deposits or something. Good thing we took some instant coffee with us... Thank you, we had a great time! ”

The condo is situated to have an unobstructed view for miles up the coast. -Privacy: Being on the second floor, no passerbys can see in. Being an end unit, there are lots of windows and on all three sides, but adjacent buildings are not close and they are situated so they can not easily see inside. We kept the drapes open the entire week to fully enjoy the spectacular view of ocean, mountains,and golf course. -Quiet: It is well off alii Drive, so no road noise or traffic. Being the last building in the complex, it is surrounded by ocean or golf course and little pedestrian traffic. Very peaceful feeling here. We were surprised to find that there is even an ancient heiau (temple) archeological site just 20 feet off the lanai. -Upscale and modern design: We thought we were staying in a private residence. It appers to be freshly remodeled as everything looks new and very clean. Furniture was upscale and not the usual rental condo rattan stuff. Only natural stone on floors and countertops, and stainless appliances in kithen. Both TVs were flat panal Lcds. Highly recommended, I am definitely coming back here to this unit. Probably the nicest condo for rent on the island. ”

“ From each of our first steps into the condo, we were overwhelmed with the condo and most certainly, the view! We used the lanai bedroom and it was so good to just walk out every morning. Whether having a cup of coffee or lunch/dinner, my favorite was enjoying an evening glass of wine with the waves playing against the lava rocks. The condo was superbly stocked with soaps, cleaning supplies, etc. The beach, snorkel, and sports equipment was truly used. Having the cleaning crew in after the first week was perfect and the girls were very nice and busy, busy, busy. One day it was quite blustery and the roll down screens were the perfect block. We all agreed with a number of 'repairs' that should be made: The screen doors should be replaced - tough to work or lock; The master bath could use a complete rehab. Of course the rehab would be pricey but very needed. I am specifically referring to the shower, floor, and baseboards. While you're in there the washer and dryer could be replaced. The kitchen floor could be replaced. The furniture throughout the condo fit right in the Hawaiian theme - very good. All of the appliances worked just fine. We liked the location - out of downtown but 10-15 minutes when we ventured there. I walk but my husband, daughter, and friend did lots of running and the gentle hills and the bike lane was perfect for them. We had a very good vacation and I am so glad we found your condo. Mahalo. “ This was a beautiful condo. Everything one could want has been provided with extras to boot. Ocean view and the sound of the surf was fabulous. Overhead fans provided adequate cooling. Only one fault: the floor really needed a good scrubbing; it was clean in the middle but very dirty around the edges and outside the traffic zones. I have sent Thor a postcard regarding that issue. I have tile floors and use a Hoover Floor Mate Hard Floor cleaner. It has rotary brushes to clean and also vacuums dry. Works like a charm. I recommend getting one of those at Costco for this place! Other than the floor, the condo was very clean and well furnished. We liked it so much we'll be back for sure - maybe in October. ”

“ We did the "Big island circle" arriving in to Kona, drove to Waimea and spend first night in Hilo, then to the condo in Keauhou, we arrived at night and felt welcomed. There was already some windows open and a small light, and the ocean breeze was very relaxing. We had breakfast and dinner watching the ocean and wonderful sunsets almost every day. During the day we opted to go either south for snorkeling 9vaptian Cook area nt to miss !!) or coffee @ the Kona Plantations or historical places (don't miss the place of refuge or the painted church) (about 30 min away);or We stayed around (magic sands for sun bathing and boogie boarding; or the beach park next to the outrigger (about 10 min or less walk) for snorkeling. Or we drove an hour north to the white sand beaches of Mauna Kea and Hapuna (the kids favorites). We had a great time, saw dolphins turtles and a glimpse of a whale. It is a short drive to kailuea-kona town too. The place was clean and well decorated with all the basics that helped us enjoy our stay. Special thanks for the boogie boards, umbrella, chairs and cooler ”

Awesome Oceanfront Get-Away!

“ My boyfriend and I enjoyed staying at this condo very much! The pictures give an accurate account of the condo and we appreciated that it wasn't too flowery or cheezy in its decor. The unit was clean when we arrived and the cleaners came once as well while we were there. We spent a number of our evenings having dinner on the lanai and listening to the waves crash on the lave rocks below. We both really enjoyed falling asleep at night to the sound of the waves. We didn't use the second bedroom at all but it was well laid out with two twin beds so it would be perfect for a family of four or a couple and two friends or three friends traveling together - you'd have to flip for the big bed ;) The lanai was the highlight of our stay. It is very roomy with a table for four to have dinner as well as two lounge chairs for sitting and enjoying the view. They also have a very handy drying rack on the lanai for swimsuits and towels etc. The condo itself is very well located and there is a small mall just up with the road with a grocery store, coffee shop, movie theatres and a few restaurants. You can also walk about 15 minutes north along alii Drive to the snorkelling beach. Easy access to Highway 11 and far enough from alii drive to miss all the sounds of the traffic making it a very peaceful place to spend your holiday. The Bbq's are also located right across from the unit so it's very convenient to cook out and carry the food back up to the lanai. I am very grateful to Thor and his wife for providing us such a wonderful place to spend our vacation. You have put a lot of care and attention into your condo and it shows. Mahalo!! ”

“ As soon as we threw the doors open to this place, the view took our breath away. The pictures don't do it justice. You wake up in the morning and look out to the water and watch dolphins doing backflips. Pretty phenomenal. On the good side, I would sa: 1. View. Already mentioned that. Had to mention it again. 2. Close to town and beaches (less than 20 minutes from most things) 3. Amenities were awesome: from the grills available (which we used to make steaks) to the stuff in the kitchen to all of the beach gear...this place had everything. Even a cooler which became a lifesaver for taking out to the beach. 4. Granite kitchen countertops, modern furniture... The only two things I would fix are: 1. There was one day where air conditioning would've been really nice. It's not that it gets too hot (as there is a nice breeze that comes off the ocean). It's just humid and a/C's good at removing humidity. 2. The floors weren't particularly clean. As requested, we took off our shoes to walk around, but it made our feet as dirty as if we had been walking outside barefoot. I've been to the Big Island twice now, so when I come back to Hawaii, I'll likely stay at another island, but when I do make it back to the Big Island, I'm definitely going to look this place up! ”

With that said, if you are sensitive to noise I would think twice. There is some room for improvement too. Nothing major, yet some worn out furniture out on the lanai (arm chairs) and rusted telescopic pole of a soap/shampoo holder in the shaver next to the living room. Toilets you can live with, but I would replace them with newer more water efficient / water sense type. Go green! Overall we were all pleased. Thank you very much! ”

For these units, the first digit is the building number (only buildings 1 through 4 are ocean-front); the second digit is the floor (second and third floors afford slightly better views), and the last 2 digits are the unit number. ”

Everything you could wish for is in the kitchen (except I couldn't find a kettle to make tea with...so I used the microwave). No air conditioning, so it might be hot in the summer(?) but we found the breeze and the ceiling fans kept us very comfortable at night. The property is well maintained, and directions for check in and check out were very straightforward. We thought the value for our cost was very good, especially as we were not in the high season. There is a shopping center very close by, so it is easy to get what you need without a long journey, but at the same time, the location is far enough out of town to make you feel like you are not in tourist central. It's a great location to have as a home base, as it's very central for touring the island (lots of driving wherever you stay on Hawaii to see everything). Most mornings there were dolphins just offshore, and there is a nice snorkel spot very close by to see lots of fish and turtles. The only uncomfortable moment was meeting an extraordinarily large cockroach on the patio- but that's a tropical environment for you! The hardest part of our stay was coming home. If we go back to Hawaii, we'll certainly try to stay here again. ”

The hotels charge just too much and after looking many condos this one looked the best one. All started with the owner allowing us to rent onlz for 4 nights when it should be 5 nights minimum and the instructions given afterwards were always clear and perfect. When we got there, everything exceeded our expectations: the spaciousness, the lanai, the ocean views, the sound of the waves crashing... it was a true Hawaiian dream!! And the town is only 10 minutes away, the most beautiful snorkeling spot is 15 minutes away, bot the more crowded yet amazing Keahou Bay was around the corner!! On top of all this the unit was extremely well maintained, kitchwn very modern and well equipped, quiet at night and had all the gear we needed for the beach was there... so it was such a better investment than going to a hotel or even a B&B... and it was clearly one of the best condos around!! Would definitely come back again here when we return for some more Big Island adventures!! Recommend it highly for couples or families (it had an extra bedroom we never used)!! Enjoy!! ”

We are from S.E. Arizona, and an 80 degree day is very pleasant! In Kona, 80 degrees with 80% humidity and absolutely no breeze was nothing short of oppressive! On that note, while the condo has ceiling fans in every room, it could use 2 or 3 on the lanai, and a screen door on the front door like all the surrounding condos. Chances are, although the condo and amenities were outstanding, the lack of AC will prevent us from staying here again! Lastly, midway through our stay and until we left, remodeling started in the condo next door, and the carpet on the stairs was being replaced. We did not get the courtesy of being notified prior to or during our stay. We had driven to the East side of the island two days in a row, and had gotten back around midnight on both occasions, only to waken around 6:30 a.m. to sawing, hammering, etc. Prior knowledge of this may have had some bearing on whether or not we had chosen this condo to stay at. At the very least, a discounted rate would have been some consolation. ”

(The music was great - we didn't watch any of the movies) There is also plenty of travel/sports gear available to use. We rented for the two of us but I would HIGHLY recommend this place for larger parties as well. Some may have a problem with the master bedroom having only shoji screens for a wall between it at the living area; we thought it was fantastic and left them open at all times. If you are looking for a nice sandy beach, you will have to walk next door to one of the best snorkel spots on the island, no big deal! We loved the dramatic contrast of black lava, blue water and white foam as the waves crashed against the shore. It was gorgeous to look at a blissful to hear. Mahalo Nui Loa, Thor ”

This is especially significant (and expensive) because the climate and salt air are particularly hard on all metal (including appliances, cookware, ceiling fans, electronics, etc.). We would prefer having brighter lighting for reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. There are no elevators; however, our preference for the second-floor unit outweighs our dislike of hauling luggage, groceries, coolers, beach equipment up the stairs. Sunset Beauty

“ This was our fourth time in Kona and second time at this condo. My only regret is that we didn't stay here the first two times. The location could not be more perfect. Close enough to downtown Kona but far enough out for peace and quiet. I love the short walking distance to the snorkeling beach, grocery store, restaurants, shopping and post office. The condo is spacious and beautiful. As always we spent most of our time on the lanai watching stunning sunsets and whales. The crashing waves lull us to sleep at night. It is our peace of heaven for a few days. The one extremely minor downfall, which is easily rectified, was that there was only 4 washcloths in the unit. One for each 4 adults. (we looked everywhere and couldn't find more) so we had to do a load of laundry everyday. No big deal and believe me, it didn't stress us out! All of the other amenities more than made up for it. Steve made the whole reservation and payment process very easy and simple. Personal note: As I watch out my window today and see it snowing heavily, I already long for the paradise we left a few short days ago. God-willing, we will be back again in this condo in two years. Steve, thank you for sharing this wonderful gift with others! ”

“ We as owners appreciate the comments passed on by our recent guests. We would like to address the points made concerning the barbecue grills on the grounds. This vacation unit is in a Condominium Association that expressly prohibits grills on the condominium lanais (decks). Instead the Association provides both charcoal and gas grills in the common area. These grills are common property and do not belong to any particular unit. The gas grills are already hooked up to a gas source, while the charcoal grills require the individual(s) to bring his/her/their own charcoal. Given the common property nature of the grills, any problem such as no Propane provided should be brought to the attention of the onsite Association Property Manager who will address the issue or get a question answered. “ As with all our guests, we appreciate the comments passed on by "cdj".

To add some clarification, we as owners would like to address the comments in the last couple of lines of "cdj's" comments. First, after the check-out we had our inspection and cleaning service check out the fans. All of them worked. The fans all work off newly (about 2 ˝ years ago) installed electrical wall switches which have multiple buttons and settings. We can only surmise that one or more of the buttons was in the off position such that the fan obviously did not turn on. During any guest's stay, the easy fix for this sort of issue, along with the knives, is simply to call our on-Island contact person who can ensure that the guest's concerns are taken care of. That person's contact information is noted in the check-in documentation and is visibly posted in more than one place within the unit.

We would also like to briefly note some of the renovations we have made since acquiring the unit a few years ago. Three (3) years ago we did a significant renovation to the kitchen area putting in granite counter tiling. This year we will be changing out the appliances in the kitchen (along with the washer/dryer in another room). Over the past 2 years we have renovated the master bathroom by completely tiling the shower area and making improvements to the sink area. Over the past 4 years, the entire set of furniture (excepting some decorative items) has been changed out to include the lanai furniture. Further, all electrical switches, outlets, and even the entire breaker box have changed out with all new and upgraded replacements. As this unit is directly on the ocean, and noting that it is in significant demand by potential guests wanting an ocean experience in Hawaii, there is a constant need to keep up on the upkeep and maintenance of the unit.

What we are trying to address concerning "cdj's" comments is that we do acknowledge the need to continuously keep the unit in top shape, and importantly we have been doing our best on a yearly basis.

Most of our guests rent our vacation home expressly for the ocean "feel" and particularly delight in viewing the nightly sunset over the ocean. With respect to Kyoko's comment concerning the afternoon sun, the unit faces west with a 180°, unobstructed, direct ocean view. The lanai does have a ceiling extension that fully covers the lanai floor area, and thus provides protection from the rain and provides shade from the sun into the early to mid-afternoon.
In order to not obstruct either the ocean or the sunset views in any manner, understanding that the late afternoon sun does shine on the lanai, we have purposely opted to not install a pull down exterior lanai shade.

The kids enjoyed the clubs pool, the free wi-fi via their PSP and Kahalu'u beach park which is about half a mile down the road towards Kona where they enjoyed snorkelling. Its about 6 miles into Kona for restauants, shops, ABC stores etc and as we had a car this was no problem. Getting off the track here, This condo made for a lovely, relaxing, affordable and very enjoyable stay on the big island. Wish we had booked more than two nights ............ “ We wish to thank each guest who takes the time to provide feedback on our Hawaii Vacation Home. We sincerely appreciate the kind comments passed on by Jo Anne from Salt Lake. Noting that Jo Ann took the time to put together her comments, we would like to address some of the concerns she noted.

We did not know until after her stay that there was a problem with the 2nd toilet. Turned out that the flushing handle was broken on the inside (literally a $5 dollar part at Ace Hardware), and we had our on-island repair person fix it in about 5-10 minutes. With respect to such items, we provide to all incoming guests some check-in paperwork listing the on-island contact person. That information is also posted in multiple locations inside the vacation home. Should any of our guests see a needed repair, the provided information suggests that the guest contact our on-island person for immediate attention. For some reason this was not done during Jo Ann's stay and we only noticed the toilet handle problem during the cleaning and inspection after the check-out.

Every year during the May/June time frame, we as owners stay in the vacation home to effect repairs, renovations, and upgrades. We had previously scheduled a mini-renovation of the master bathroom which we did accomplish in June just after Jo Ann's stay. Specifically, we completely replaced the Master Bathroom mirrors, medicine cabinet, and the lighting above the vanity area. Having noted the replacement and upgrade, we would like to note that living on the ocean has its challenges to just about anything human-made. With regard to mirrors, the salt air can penetrate between the glass and the backing of mirrors especially around the edges. This deteriorates the chemical backing such that one gets an oxidized (blackened) effect making the mirror look darkened and losing its reflective ability.

While the model of the refrigerator is designed for ice maker capability, this vacation home does not have an ice-maker water line to the refrigerator. Thus, it is not the case that an ice maker doesn't work, but rather that there is no ice maker. We do provide several ice trays and a freezer ice bucket, as well as several "ice packs or pads" which can be used in ice coolers.

As concerns the hard twin bed, we would like to note that we have 3 beds (a king, a queen, and a twin) as well as a queen sleeper sofa hide-a-bed which folds out from the living room sofa. Our experience with guests over the years is that there are as many opinions w.r.t. hard and soft beds as there are people. We try to accommodate by having different levels of hardness and softness across the various beds in the vacation home. The twin may be firm, but the other beds will vary in firmness. We also include a special "egg shell foam mattress pad" which can be put on or taken off the king size bed to accommodate the firmness desired of our respective guests. In short, we purposely have beds of varying firmness to accommodate the varying firmness desirability of our guests.

The condo complex's position in Keauhou means it is close to great snorkeling and shopping with grocery stores, restaurants, theatres and a farmer's market on Saturday. Keauhou is a guiet, safe area for walking and other parts of the island are easily accessible. KS&RC has a very large pool, excellent tennis courts and convenient free parking. The owners of this unit were very accommodating and easy to work with - the condo was exactly as represented - we will definitely return. ”

Check-in was made easy by Rocco, who sent an email the week of our departure with all the information, directions, gate codes etc. Being an end unit, Townhouse 187 has more light and ventilation than others on the oceanfront, allowing you to take advantge of the cool tradewinds. From the top-to-bottom quality remodel, (both materials and craftsmanship), to the luxurious linens, we could not have wished for better. The master bedroom and living room are separated by sliding screens so that during the day, there is an ocean view the full width of the condo. Perfect all around. The owners provided all the necessary information a few weeks prior to the trip and then contacted us a couple of days before arrival to make sure we had all the information we needed. Directions were easy to follow and the coded lockbox ensured it was easy to get in and we never locked ourselves out. The condo itself was beautifully constructed, furnished and decorated, with pictures and art work that gave it a warm, welcoming feel. Although the entire condo was woonderful, the bathrooms deserve special mention. Spacious layouts, beutiful tile work and the rolled river rock floors int he showers are a great touch! The kitchen was a delight with Island-themed dishes and every cooking utensil imaginable. We hosted a number of dinner parties for local friends and all were very impressed with how at home they felt there. They were also envious of the spectacular sunsets they enjoyed from the dining room and the lanai. The condo stayed pleasantly cool with its' East to West exposure capturing breezes off the ocean ( I swear best location in the whole complex). In the mornings we watched whales breaching and every evening we watched the sunset from the lanai before firing up the bar-b-que for dinner. Although we were on vacation, we have 24/7 type jobs so the wireless connectivity allowed us to check in and avert an insurmountable amount of e-mails upon our return to reality. The resort property had two lovely pools, three hot tubs, two tennis courts, and a small workout facility. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The grocery and drug stores were a five minute walk and Kahalu'u Beach with its' friendly fish and abundance of sea turtles was a 10 minute walk. Kona town is a 10 minute drive. Despite the convenient location, the condo was incredibly quiet with no noise from Ali'i Drive. There is nothing I would change about this condo or the location. It was perfect! ”

We enjoyed breakfast on the Lanai and were able to cook with ease at night when we wanted to (plenty of kettles, pots and pans etc). The location was great. Close enough to grocery, drug stores, yet far enough away from town to provide some quietness. With a family of four including two older children(16 and 23),it was nice to have space to spread out. The resort itself was also very nice. Two swimming pools, hot tubs,and a restaurant. We would definitely rent this condo again. ”

The view is fantastic and visible from the living room and dinning room as well as the lanai. There was an initial problem with one of the ac units, but it was quickly resolved and we found little need for a/c. Just opened the window in the kitchen and the door and let the breezes flow through sliding glass doors to the lanai. The condo was clean, and nicely appointed. The proximity to downtown Kona is a big plus. We had a very pleasant stay and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The pictures are very accurate in depicting the inside, but don't do the view justice! ”

It was a pleasant surprise to have items like bedding, cleaning supplies, TP, etc included in the condo- thank you!! Couldn't easily travel with that from the continental us like we do when staying on the mainland. I say this vacation home is probably better for one couple for 2 reasons- the air conditioning does nothing for the upstairs loft. So unless you like it hot, or are traveling in a cooler season, you probably don't want to sleep up there. The other reason I suggest that children not occupy this house has to do with the downstairs neighbor. She found us right away after arrival to tell us to make sure our children walked softly because of the tile floors. So, we spent an entire week telling our children to whisper and to tiptoe around (one of our son's walks like an elephant). ”

Watching from the condo deck or walking 1 block to the ocean front cliffs to watch the sunset is a nightly ritual. “ We stayed for 8 days with our two younger teens. The Resort property is well maintained and the grounds are very nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. The unit itself is nicely stocked with towels (beach & bath), kitchen pot/pans, (even laundry soap) and information about things to do (including on-site activities). It is very spacious and the large lanae is unbeatable for a 180 views of the ocean and sunsets. All appliances worked just fine. I understand that it was updated - the owners did a nice job with the kitchen and bathrooms. The furnishing are nice although they show some wear. All in all it was quite comfortable. We did not use the AC, but I can see where you might need it. Most of the time there were great ocean breezes with all the windows open, except for the upstairs (kids bedroom/loft). The owners provided 3 moveable fans which helped a lot. We had our own internet service so can't comment about service through the Resort. We liked the resort location. It is about 30 minutes to nice sandy beaches like Hapuna, but there are plenty of things to do locally, so you won't get bored. It is a quiter location than in town and not as lush as the large resorts, but it was a good home base. The grocery store is across the street which is really helpful. We cooked and ate on the lanae a lot. The pools are nice and we ate at the poolside restaurant a couple of times. Food was pretty good and fairly reasonably priced. A nice way to spend the evening with the kids in the pool. ”

We very much enjoyed our stay! I have nothing bad to say about our experience. The best beach I have ever seen is Hapuna Beach. It's a 45 minute drive away (there is really nothing that it is close to) with turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Google it, then GO! Also did Volcano National Park (3 hours away) [1.5 out of 5 stars], Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens (2 hours away)[3.5 out of 5 stars] (take mosquito spray), and the Southernmost point in the US [1/2 star out of 5]. We had 5 nights and that proved enough time to see everything we wanted to. Again, highly recommend staying at this condo! ”

Sad Situation!

“ All of the condos on our website can be rented Real-Time via our website (www.alohacondos.com) and don't require sending emails or calling anybody to rent. We don't want potential guests to have to wait for a response in order to book their stay.

This guest had called me to ask for a discount and I passed along this information to the owner - Jim Weinand. Jim never contacted the guest because of a problem that occurred during the guest's previous stay.

During their previous stay this customer violated the non-smoking policy and smoked heavily in the unit. After their departure the cleaning team went to considerable effort and additional expense to properly clean the unit for our next guests. The owners will not rent to this guest again.

But, if those were our biggest complaints...we will certainly stay there again, and again! ”

The snorkels and boogie boards were a great thing to have and the kitchen cupboards had all the facilities we could possibly require. Disappointed

“ We rented this rental for the barbeques and comfort of 8 people. Unfortunately there was no barbeque at the rental had to go to the pool for that. The tank ran out the second week we were there and had to throw everything in the oven as no mgr on site. Very inconvenient. The sofa had so many feathers coming out it was unsanitary. The worst part of this rental was the beds. We were promised two doubles which was what we needed. One of them turned out to be a futon which my 79 year old mother ended up getting. The top of bed slipped to the side one way or another and was very uncomfortable. Needless to say my children ended up sleeping on the sofa and or floor so that grandma could get the better bed and stop complaining. Very stressful for the whole family. Very disappointing. ”

Manager response:

“ Na Hale is a community with private Town homes. There is an on-site manager that has daytime hours with an office next to the pool, Jacuzzi and BBQ common area. Our home has its own private manager available for emergencies. His contact information is posted in our home.

Our home offers sleeping accommodations for 8 people as stated in our description. The upstairs master bed room and second bedroom each have king size beds. The third bedroom, downstairs, has 2 queen bed (not the smaller double beds). We set up our rooms this way to comfortably accommodate a family up to 8 people. More than 8 guest are not allowed, and would mean quests sleeping on sofas and floors. Our sofa in the living room is a Down Feather filled sofa and chaise. It does lose feathers occasionally. It is a sofa and not meant for sleeping quests. We are very proud of our home in Kona, as it is our home as well, not just a rental. We have tried our best to create a welcoming and relaxing environment for all. We wish you the best in the future.

“ We own a condo in this complex, but needed a few nights in another unit until ours came available. Naturally, I compared our set-up with that of M-1 and was pleasantly surprised. Six adults fit very comfortably in this spacious, nicely decorated unit and it was very clean. I was particularly pleased to have actual china, and a glass lemonade dispenser in the kitchen as we held a small reception at the condo following a wedding vow renewal ceremony for our 25th anniversary. Check-in and check-out were very smooth, and ample supplies of towels, soaps and trash bags were available. I will recommend this unit to our friends for those times we wish to travel together. Mahalo! ”

We appreciate the family that so kindly let us rent their home and for Chuck who was prompt in answering our questions and helpful to us in making our stay a fabulous one. The townhome was perfect for us and is in a beautiful area with the pool and barbecue area very close to us and every morning and night able to wake up looking out our lanai to see the ocean and sunset. The townhome also was decorated wonderfully and was great having 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms since they were 7 of us. We were very close to most everything we needed - groceries, snorkeling, church and downtown. When we did travel to see more of the Island it was so beautiful along the way, we did not mind the length of time it took to get there. We hope to come back someday with our family and be reassured we will tell other people about our stay. ”

“ We rented and came back again this year, as our previous stay was so memorable. First I must say the the location, quiet neighbourhood and close proximity to the grocery store still is a great reason to stay. The unit is exactly as pictured and accomodates any family easily. Our biggest disappointment and huge issue was the general tideness/cleanthiness of the unit when we arrived. The showers/bathrooms were spotty and not clean and the bedding on the beds dirty and smelled like "B.O." I did contact someone, but did not get a reply or call until our maid was due mid week and by this time had cleaned and washed all the bedding myself. In addition, all the wonderful beach stuff that was part of our rental last year, gone!! We ended up purchasing and leaving behind 4 body boards/snorkle masks/beach umbrella and many other things. Along with this, the owners have put a "lock" on the downstairs closet making anyone with luggage or clothing, have to walk upstairs and intrude on other rooms for storage and to hang clothes. Overall, the townhouse has a beautiful view and security for those looking for a safe place to stay. I think the owners need to look at why they are renting and how the changes they have made impact both the experience and comfort. Overall, I would recommend but be aware that if you have issues, they probably will not get addressed. ”

“ Overall this was a very nice condo with plenty of room in a great location off of Alii drive. We really liked the proximity to the beach, downtown Kona, and the shopping center. The amenities in the condo facility including the pool and workout room were also very nice. The only complaint was that the initial cleanliness of the condo was not good. In particular three out of the four beds in the condo had large hair balls in the sheets, almost like they hadn't been cleaned prior to our arrival, or not cleaned very well. ”

It was thoughtfully stocked with everything from condiments to laundry detergent to pool toys for the kids. There is tons of parking and the property is nice and quiet. The location is great, only about 5 - 10 min drive to beaches and around the corner from the shopping center. When we had a question about the air conditioner, someone was there to help us within the hour. We've already recommended this condo to several people and would definitely stay there again if ever in Kona. ”

“ This amazing condo was "everything" the owner stated. This unit is one of the few in this complex, that has a beautiful view of the ocean, along with close access to the pool/BBQ area. We found it to be very clean, the owner easy to correspond and talk to and the location safe, secure and quiet. The drive from the airport was both non-stressful and directions to easy to follow. The best part.... was the location of a grocery store, post office and drug store right behind, making it easy for grocery shopping or last minute meal planning. Our family (which included our young/adult children) quickly found the best snorkling was just 1 mile down the road, with the "tourist" area of Kona just beyond. We felt that there was nothing we could have needed, even for the beach, and suggest that you really "only" need clothes. We never ran out of towels or bedding, and loved the laundry room on the main floor. Any large family would love this condo as the owner has provided for all ages and all needs, right down to the extra air beds for parents that want their little ones close and DVD movies for all ages. The free internet allowed us to sit on the lanai and plan our days while we drank our morning coffee atching the sun come up. The location is close to the major highway making any activity, coffee farm tour or tourist attraction easy to find. We went to relax and enjoy the sun, away from the hotel type of stay.. and were not dissappointed. This condo is great value for your money and truly a "HOME away from HOME" ”

If you are looking for resort complete with an events coordinator, pool side bar etc. consider elsewhere as the complex has a residential feel great for those looking for peace and quiet. One small annoyance is that the hot tub is prone to frequent outages due to children playing with the shut off control. Bottom line if you are looking for a place to park and relax in the Kona district you cannot go wrong with this rental unit . Please note if your vacation plans include extensive trips to the north, east or south island attractions the commute times from the Kona district will eventually wear you out. Last -Aloha Condos were great to deal with and I would highly recommend others to their rental web site. ”
