Perfect family getaway
I had roughly ten days to research and put together a last-minute trip to Maui for me, my husband, and our 2 year old. I really felt as though I was taking a giant gamble, as I knew nothing about Maui. I can't tell you how lucky I felt that I chose the Maui Kai, in particular, Condo 108. That it was right on the beach provided so much ease for us-- my daughter woke up each day saying, "Ocean, ocean." We met lovely families who were staying in the area, and it was just perfectly located for the slow beach days we craved. The condo itself is lovely and comfortable, and the kitchen is ridiculously well stocked with any bowl or utensil or pot you could want. It enabled us to have tremendous freedom in our day. I would recommend the condo to anyone-- it was perfect and we loved our stay.

Our Wonderful Maui Vacation
We had a marvelous time in Maui. The Maui Kai was simply beautiful right on the ocean. The sunsets were breath-taking. We even extended our stay by three days and didn't want to leave then. Everyone on the grounds were extremely friendly. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends or anyone considering vacationing in Maui. The room was stocked with everything you'd possibly need and the Safeway down the street made grocery shopping less expensive. The condo was perfectly clean and decorated in nice Hawaiian accents. We spent so much time sitting on the lanai just watching the waves, whales, and kite-surfers. We also took in all the visitor sites. Overall on a scale of 1-10, I'd say we had an 11. Thank you Al and Alice.

Wonderful
We spent 10 days at the Maui Kai 301. I should say 10 days in the Maui Kai 301 because we didn't want to go out. It is a perfect spot. Any closer to the water and you would have to swim. The lanai is comfortable with an unobstructed 180 view and privacy. The condo is like a home with everything you could want for a great vacation. We cooked in most nights and the kitchen was very well equipped. There were beach toys, a comfortable bed and a great shower. The location was perfect for long walks on the beach and food. We found the best Mai Tai's around next door for $4. After 10 days in the Maui Kai 301 we spent 3 days in the owners other condo at the Hana Kai. We were reluctant to make the drive but we are glad we did. It's not so bad if you take it slow. It is very green and very different from the rest of Maui. Hana is quiet and peaceful with amazing waterfalls and beaches. Once again the condo had everything you would need and was very charming and comfortable. We didn't have any trouble with noisy neighbors but it could be the luck of the draw. The condo overlooks a black sand beach and it's walking distance to the little town. We had a great dinner at the Hana Hotel and and a couples outdoor massage while listening to the ocean. We have been to Maui many times but never left so relaxed or so upset to have to leave. I would highly recommend both condo's and I would not miss the opportunity to stay a few days in Hana. We are booking again a year in advance to be sure we get to return.

Amazing experience
The condo is in a beautiful location and is a wonderful place to stay. Boasting an amazing view of the ocean through the windows and the mountain out of the front door, the condo is beautifully laid out and is close to every amenity you could possibly need. Plus, the rental agent very thoughtfully left us a basket of fruit to welcome us, which definitely put us in the Hawaii spirit. We would happily stay there again and will also happily recommend the unit to everyone we know who will be visiting the island. Thank you for an amazing experience!

We stayed here in September and we are still talking about the wonderful time we had. The condo is even better than the pictures. We will be staying here on our next vacation to Maui. When we arrived there was a beautiful basket of fruit and candy to welcome us. It was a lovely touch. But the VIEW was the best part, it was just breath taking, I can still see the ocean in my minds eye as I write. To wake up to that view was amazing. You just open the door and you are on the beach! The resort next door was a nice place to go for morning coffee or even breakfast and dinner. We would stop there in the morning before our walk on the beach. The condo was perfect and there was a book filled with information about the area, places to eat, where to get groceries, entertainment, just everything you would need to get around. We will never forget our visit, your condo made our vacation perfect.

My husband, our 2 teens, and I stayed here in August 2007 and loved it. From condo 108 you can walk right out onto the building's deck and down to the beach. The beach is right there! Spectacular view which includes Molokai. I especially enjoyed the view from the kitchen when cooking. The condo was well furnished and clean with a great breeze throughout [barely used the A/C]. The staff at the Maui Kai was very helpful and also at the maid service [called for extra towels]. Ample close parking. The kids enjoyed the pool. The rental process was simple and smooth. We received our deposit back before we'd returned home. :D

This was our first visit to Maui and we were pleasantly surprised by the Maui Kai Resort facility. We loved the location right on the beach, the unit was clean and felt like home. We also made use of the lovely pool and hot tub on cooler days. We felt secure and the facility was quiet and peaceful. The price per night we felt was higher than we could have paid in other units in the same building and having to pay for cleaning of unit 2 times in a 2 week stay we thought was a bit of a rip off.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Maui Kai!! It was our first time staying on the West side; normally we stay in Kihei or the North Shore (Paia). It was so nice to be close to Lahaina and Kaanapali. The condo was clean, well stocked, and the gift basket was a really nice touch. It was great to be able to open the door to our lanai and walk literally 5 steps until sand hit our toes!! And having the clean water faucet right outside our door was nice what with two toddlers and all their sandy limbs and beach toys. Since we were so close to the water, we saw probably 10-15 whale breaches a day right from our condo lanai - it was just amazing!! Only negative and it is very, very slight, is that the beach outside the condo had a pretty strong shore break and undertow. It might have just been the time of year we went there....but it was strong enough that we didn't go swimming outside our condo and instead drove to other nearby beaches to do our swimming. Other than that, we had a fabulous time and we hope to return again soon!!

I previously rented a condo in Honolulu through Aloha Condos so when I was booking a Hawaiian vacation for my parents I knew Aloha Condos was a trusted site with honest representations of the properties they feature. My parents stayed in this condo on Maui for a week and absolutely loved it! The condo was exactly as represented on the website. I let the owners know that I was renting the condo as a gift to my parents for their anniversary and to my surprise they were kind enough to have an anniversary gift waiting for my parents upon their arrival. I have had two very positive experiences with Aloha Condos and would recommend their website to anyone in search of a condo in Hawaii and for anyone looking for a condo in Maui, I would highly recommend this property.

We stayed for the second time at the Maui Kai Condo Complex, UNIT 504 in May of '08 and absolutely loooooved it all over again! We are very excited about returning for a ten day third visit this May 2. We never tire of this unbelievable oceanfront property. We always enjoy sitting on the lanai in the morning (java in hand) watching the wonderful sea parade of whales, spinner dolphins and sea turtles. Later we mosey on down to the awesome sandy beach and take a dip in the waves. If you are not a beach lover there is a pool close by. We are always impressed with how well the grounds are cared for, lush greens and beautiful flowers abound. The condo itself is immaculate, with a well stocked kitchen and furnished with lovely tropical decor. All the niceties of home right here. Did I mention the gorgeous sunsets and colorful rainbows? We would highly recommend this condo to honeymooners, couples or small families. The price is very reasonable too. Al and Lyn, the owners are wonderful people. They want you to have the BEST EVER ALOHA EXPERIENCE at their little slice of Heaven, Maui Kai Unit 504...and WE ALWAYS DO.

speed01 from Aurora, CO on 04/23/2009 said:
Quite a few years back we stayed at this resort, and i use that name loosely. The actual apartment was done very nicely; the view of the ocean is very good. There's no reception area per se; the overall building reminds me of a tenement in a poor neighborhood and the pool is across the parking lot surrounded by concrete blocks. There is NO beachfront as there is no beach in front...only ocean. A retaining wall protects the lobby from the ocean rushing in. The shower in the apartment overflowed to the apartment below and not by any fault of ours. My wife and I are very careful and clean when we stay in someone else's apartment. Wouldn't recommend this rental building at all.
Manager response:
Since 2004, we have completely redecorated and made several other upgrades such as an additional granite counter with new maple cabinets in the bathroom, new living room and dining room furnishings and balcony high table and swivel chairs on the lanai. A problem with the shower at the time was quickly remedied. Maui Kai is a smaller structure constructed of cement block which helps to eliminate noise compared to some of the large hotel-type buildings. As Maui Kai has the closest proximity to the ocean in West Maui, it is regularly maintained including re-spalling of the building, new paint and trim. The landscaping of the building has been upgraded with many Hawaiian flowers, plants, and waterfalls. The pool and spa are part of a larger cabana area which includes an indoor kitchen, bathrooms, computer with printer, ping-pong table, and library. Outside is a large area for sunbathing and visiting, a covered picnic area, and gas barbecues. Perhaps his visit was during one of the rare storms that could bring in high surf and reduce the beach temporarily. However, North Ka’anapali Beach in front of Maui Kai actually stretches for three miles, all the way to Black Rock. Maui Kai is not a hotel with one a grandiose entryway, but it does have a pleasant sitting area for resting and visiting now complete with orchids and newer furniture as well as free morning coffee and newspapers for purchase. Maui Kai is a location guests enjoy returning to year after year.

This condo is very clean....you could eat off the floors! The lanai is wonderful. I sat on the patio furniture for hours just watching the whales breaching from the ocean front view through the binnoculars which were also supplied for us. The beach right in from is also a perfect spot for tanning and swimming. There is also a gated pool and hottub area with public BBQ's and games room. This is the second time we have stayed at Maui Kai Unit 301. Although we thought it was great the first time we stayed four years ago, we were thrilled at how this unit has been updated. It is absolutely beautiful. If being near the ocean is a priority, this is the best place to stay. You can sit on your lanai and watch the whales and sea turtles all day long. The owners have thought of everything when furnishing this unit, even including beach chairs and boogie boards for the kids. My husband and I and our two 17 year old boys had more than enough room. After staying here, we have all decided this is so much better than staying at a crowded and cramped hotel, regardless of how nice the hotels in the area are. This was cheaper than the hotels on Maui and you get much more for your money. There is a grocery store across the street and we enjoyed not having to go out to restaurants for every meal. Nothing beats enjoying your breakfast or dinner on the lanai while your watching the whales or the sunset. We would not stay anywhere else on the island and look forward to staying here again.

Manager response:
Aloha Barry: I am very sorry to hear you had a terrible stay on your recent trip to Maui. Our records show you stayed in Maui Kai 301 over two years ago in 2006 (from 11/27- 12/13 for $225/nt to be exact) not just a few months ago in 12/2008 as stated in your review. The timing difference somewhat reassures me that you must not have been thinking of our unit (or our Resort!) when you wrote this review. Because we are located directly on Ka'anapali Beach, three miles long, I do not understand your comment about 'no beach access'. Just for the record, for those who may not have visited our website, we have posted aerial photographs that show our resort is practically IN the water! Of course we provide beach access! There are two sets of stairs: one set is directly out the lobby doors, the other set is at the north end of our sundeck. Maui Kai Resort also provides water spigots at the top of each set of stairs for rinsing the sand off of your feet (or easy rinsing of all the 'beach goodies' we provide in our unit including: snorkel gear, boogie boards and beach chairs!). Our gorgeous sandy beach, is not only world famous, swimmable and offers great snorkeling, but was recognized with top honors by Dr. Beach as 'Best Beach in America' on his top ten list. I don't know what you mean by "The condo was misrepresented". With dozens of photos posted online as well as multiple 360 degree virtual tours it seems impossible for us to misrepresent any aspect of our accommodations. You can visit Maui Kai 301 'virtually' before you ever step foot in our Resort- including full 360 degree tours of our master bedroom, living room and our spacious corner balcony. In fact, we include Resort tours of our beachfront as well as our cabana area with its BBQ grills, heated pool, hot Jacuzzi, public kitchen and community computer too! Our virtual tours are not a succession of photos on a slideshow that could potentially hide something from the viewer. Our tours are taken by a professional and are actual stitched images of each location. Our high quality tours can be enlarged to full screen on your computer offering great detail and allow you to move the mouse around to view what we offer as if you were truly there. I also have never heard anything remotely close to your statement that "the condo was barely livable" in all these years. Of course, you might not even recognize Maui Kai 301 anymore. We upgrade our unit every year as we live on island and are always interested in improving our accommodations. We hired a professional team to completely remodel our kitchen and bath the last two weeks of December 2006- just days after you left. We built a magnificent custom bathroom with a hand-made shower folks come back for! This custom turtle inlaid natural stone shower has custom designed 'wavy glass' enclosure that is big enough for two! (We are now a real favorite for Honeymooners and special Anniversary celebrations, as you can imagine...) We completely opened up the kitchen and installed sapphire granite and stainless steel full size appliances too. We also upgraded our outdoor furniture to a custom teak barstool set crafted in Bali- the bar height allows you to enjoy the 180 degree oceanfront view without the railing getting in your line of sight like regular chairs will do- it's magnificent! We have since added a top end Select Comfort adjustable 'Sleep Number' King sized bed (allows each side of the bed to adjust separately to achieve perfect personalized firmness for a fantastic night's sleep) and added lots of original art from Window To Paradise. These gorgeous fine art giclees are huge! Our newest addition is a 5 foot by 7 foot Hawaiian canoe scene that adds an amazing ambiance to the kitchen, augmenting its already incredible oceanfront location. I wish you had contacted us back in 2006 (if this is truly your honest review of your stay in Maui Kai 301?!) instead of waiting two and a half years to inform me of your 'disappointing' stay. We live on island, and personally maintain and manage our condos. We are always a phone call away to help support our guests in getting oriented to their new 'Island Home'. We certainly would have helped you understand how to reach the beach... and would have been happy to augment our Orientation Book (provided inside the condo to help you feel like a 'local' right away!), with more tips about our favorite things to do and places to eat across the island for a truly memorable island vacation. With kind regards- Shayla Middleton Owner, Maui Kai 301 Maui, HI

This was going to be our third time to Maui. My wife and I explored different condos when we were their in 2007. We came across condo #301, during the renovation period. We loved the views and the great decorating inside the condo. The owners went all out to fix this unit up and boy does it show! We love the views and it's the closest condo to the water. We will be back! Bruce & Diane

This condo is amazing. It is a corner condo so the lanai is a wrap around with amazing views of both Lanai and Molokai. The whale watching was so superb you won't need to spend money on a boat. It is spotlessley clean and modern. All the amenities you could possibly want are there including snorkle gear, suntan lition, beach chairs etc. A handy book with recommended restaurants and siteseeing is at your fingertips. You just need to walk a few feet from the door to hit the water. We would HIGHLY recommend this apartment for a stay in paradise.

Everything our family needed was right at hand from kitchen utensils to toys for the beach; walking distance to groceries, restaurants, pool, gameroom for kids, everything a family or couple could want or need. Awakening to the sound of the ocean calmed us all and was a great start to our day and wonderful end to our evenings.. We were thoroughly entertained by all the local treats... Ohh... did l mention clean and well decorated... Highly recommended...

We have been to Hawaii 6 times, Maui 3 times before, but this was the BEST vacation we have ever had! A big part of this was the condo we stayed in; with it being so close to the ocean --- have not experienced this feeling of being so relaxed and excited. The view from the condo is Out of the World --- you can not describe the view. It gives you a feeling that you are staying right on the beach, but are high enough for security purposes. The condo has all of the extra' that you need to enjoy the water events and more. We liked the space and upgrades to the condo. The owner gave us a welcome gift that was much appreciated. The location of the condo is Outstanding. We enjoyed the strip mall near the condo and found Excellent places for food, plus stores. The condo is a few miles from a major shopping center, where they have the GREAT fish taco's. One thing that would make our stay better would be to put a PC in the room, so we could access the Internet. We talk about our trip all the time and REALLY look forward to going back in the near future.

If you are looking for a direct beachfront, spacious, beautiful, more-than-fully equipped condo with a fanatastic corner lanai and view of whales and sunsets then you have found it. To be honest, I hate to let the secret out - I better book my next trip soon! We travel alot and the little things in this condo are what make it even more special - a huge "thank you" to the owners - no worries about whether paper goods are there, the closet is full with beach accessories, every dish and kitchen tool is in the cupboard. The large, flat screen TV did not get turned on while we were there, I am afraid: I couldn't pull myself away from watching the whales from the lanai. I spent much time on the internet searching for the exact right place to stay, and I definately felt that I had found it. I would not be able to stay anywhere else on Maui. Have Fun and Live Aloha.

The Maui Kai Beach Resort Condo 301 - Lahaina, HI was the most magical vacation my family has ever taken. The unit was top notch!! Everything (and things we didn't even think of) was provided for us in the unit. The ocean view was unbelievable from the lanai. The ocean is literally a stones throw away. We watched the whales breach from our unit while eating breakfast on the lanai! We will go back and stay here again. I would recommend this property without hesitation to anyone.

Lahaina is a great area on Maui and Maui Kai 301 is an excellent condo to stay in. One of our favorite parts of 301 was spending the early morning out on the lanai, with a large cup of coffee and the ocean breeze. We even slept on the lanai a couple on nights...yes! This unit is right on the beach, so close the waves lull you to sleep at night. We also liked that it was a corner unit, makes the lanai much more open and comfortable. The inside of this unit has obviously been completely remodeled with Granite countertops and the works. NICE! When we go on vacation we want to stay somewhere nicer than our own house and this place definitely delivers that. Have fun on Maui!

I researched condos and hotel rooms in Kaanapali extensively before choosing Maui Kai #301. Beachfront comfort for our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens). Very reasonable rate, great view, snorkeling right out in front. Watched turtles and rays from the balcony. Uncrowded beach and pool even in height of summer season. Short drive to Whalers Village and Lahaina. Highly recommended.

An absolutely lovely unit in a perfectly positioned condo high-rise. The waves literally come to the back (front?) patio of the building. Everything you need is in walking distance too, so you don't have to rely on odd or inconvenient means of getting food and water and other basics... Just shop at the grocery store and cook in your own kitchen! This place is great because it's not a hotel, so you can stay in Hawaii and not feel like a complete tourist. Peace and Good Waves.

The condo Maui Kai 301 was one of the most beautiful condominiums I've ever stayed at...Everything was FIRST RATE, impectably clean, updated...absolutely perfect. This was my 3rd time to the islands, and I've stayed in quite a few rental properties as opposed to hotels...Out of approx 10 properties, none could come close to this one. (And I must say, the new furniture in the unit is now even nicer than before!). Don't hesitate in considering renting this unit, as you won't find anything as nice, at such a reasonable rate. And the owners were wonderful too! See you in 2010 :0), only this time, I'll stay longer!

We stayed at the Maui Kai Room 301 and were just overwhelmed with the ever changing beauty just outside. The condo was very clean and well equipped. The beach is literally a few feet away and very quiet. The beach is not a classic swimming beach due to the rocks present. We experienced terrific sunsets and daily whale sightings. The condo is located in a great central location. All the owners and renters were very friendly making you feel right at home. Our pre-teenagers used the pool every night. If you are searching for a quiet retreat with a great view this is the place to be.
