My wife and I traveled to Maui for our first time to stay in the Maui Kai in Condo 108 and we were very pleased. Our building was the closest to the water of any condo we saw in the 2 mile stretch we walked along the beach. Our condo specifically is the only condo in the building with a walkout to the outside and beach access from the back of the building, the other condos only have closed balconies (Lanais) out the back. We were able to watch the whales breaching and playing very easily from our Lanai while we sat and relaxed. There is a nice kitchen that is well-stocked with many appliances that will allow you to cook just about anything. There is also a grocery store, a farmer's market, and a fresh fish market very close to the Maui Kai for stocking the fridge. The condo stayed rather cool in general with just the ceiling fans on, but the air-conditioning rapidly cools down the condo if the need should arise. The only downside we found to the condo was that there was no daily maid service, which may be an option, however, we did not have that option, so we had to do laundry on our towels multiple times during our stay, however, there is a nearby This is a very well-maintained and clean condo and I would definitely stay there again without any hesitation.

February 2013 was my fourth stay at Maui Kai Condo 108. I think it's been updated since I was last there, and everything was great. The bed was extremely comfortable, the sofabed was better than most, the kitchen and bath spotless, the towels good sized and soft. You have to love a place where you can spot whales spouting just beyond the breakers, while you sip your first cup of coffee on the lanai. The owners leave a notebook of valuable information for guests, including favorite beaches, snorkling sites,(including the one right outside the lanai door!) and restaurants within walking distance along the beach. We dined at two of these, and wished we could stay a few more days, just to go back. You have to try the Hula Pie at Duke's, one dish serves 3-4. If I'm lucky enough to go back to Maui, I hope I can book #108 again.

One key to the front door did not work, the backdoor key did not work, cut screen on back door indicated possible forced entry into lanai. The safe was locked when we arrived and was unavailable. The Facility was nice and well set up for vacationers, great view and location. Pool and Jacuzzi were perfect for daily relaxation. Sleep Number Bed was great.
Manager response:
You are absolutely correct on these problems. They were solved two hours after the owner who was next coming, came to the unit to use it. There are signs on the door, the refrigerator, orientation page on desk, and the orientation book of what is on the islend for your pleasure has the top of the page first lines for Kathys Got It Maid for all problems of any kind. Idle hands locked the safe when empty or someone did not understand it. It was unlocked by the locksmith quickly and empty. The front door key was totally defragged and Kathy has extras, and the real problem was that the back door locked from the inside mechanically and the outside keylock froze from the salt air. it is relubed twice a year and has never frozen before. The cut screen was from a young person who could not wait to go around to the front door and cut the screen to get in. We were told about it. We have been owners of Maui Kai units on the ground floor for 35 years and not only we but no one in the Maui Kai has ever had a break in that way. The lock system is secure and worked from the inside. OH how we wish you had called Kathys Got It Maid for help and they would have been there that day in a couple of hours latest.

Stayed here for 8 days with my wife and 2 kids (ages 10 and 1). Wonderful condo. The proximity to the beach and ocean is absolutely unsurpassed! So easy to go back and forth to the beach, particularly with kids. No need to pack up a ton of stuff, no car ride, no elevator ride - just simple! There is a pool onsite - but I have to admit that being right next to the ocean, we never even used the pool at all. It looked nice though. A wonderful ocean breeze - never turned on the aC even once during our stay. It's about 2-3 blocks from a grocery store - easy walking distance. The condo is limited in cabinet space for your groceries - that would be the only negative I can think of (Well, OK, the water pressure in the shower is lacking, but no big deal). The condo is clean, bright, and well decorated. The nightly sunset view is amazing. It has all the necessary amenities. All you need is your sunscreen and your grocery stop, and you're good! We will certainly stay here again. Love the condo, love the location. Very well done. Mahalo!

We stayed for 3 nights in Jan. 2012. Overall, it was really good; definitely the nicest of the 3 places I've stayed on Maui. The location can't be beat with the beach right outside your door and whale watching from the lanai (although people can see you through your lanai as they walk by on the boardwalk so if this bothers you, choose a unit on an upper floor). The kitchen was well equipped, the condo was very clean, and the WC was modern. On the downside, there was a slight smell of sewage through the window sometimes; not sure if this is a problem all over Ka'anapali area as we smelled it from the highway also. Also there was a slight hum (fridge? central air con from next door?). Finally, they were testing the fire alarm system while we were there. This is a necessary thing to do but the booking agent didn't warn us and I was annoyed as there was loud beeping for a couple of hours and we had an infant with us. Things to ask for next time...

Unit #108 was the best vacation I've had in Maui after many, many visits to the Island. I've stayed in both the fancy and not-so-fancy places and found the Maui Kai to be about the best. The location is terrific and if you want to be just steps from the beach this is the place for you. It has all the comfort of home and is well-stocked with kitchen utensils if you prefer cooking in the unit. The unit itself is very comfortable with seating on the lanai for ocean viewing and whale watching, tv's in both the bedroom and living room and quite comfortable furniture. Also provided are beach chairs, a cooler, and beach towels along with the basics to get started, such as t.paper, paper towels, spices, etc. The condo has a swimming pool for those days when the wind is too strong to lie in the sand. If you have any problems they have access to a wonderful maid service and she's right there for anything you might need. The condo, although not affiliated with the owners of this unit, are helpful as well. You can get free coffee in the morning and pick up a newspaper and great postcards there too. Convenience is unsurpassed as well. You can walk right next door to an upscale resort for music and cocktails or walk up and down a long stretch of beautiful beach. There is a full grocery store just a minute's drive away and loads of eatery's all around. Lahaina town is only a few minutes drive and where you'll find all the shopping and bars and restaurants you'll ever want. My favorite part of the entire experience was the ability to just walk out the door and be on the beach. No going in and out of lobby's or up and down elevators. Just out the door and on the beach! Quite wonderful! Thank you for a fantastic experience.

The unit was very clean, updated with modern amenities throughout and centrally located for our needs. Kathy, the unit contact, was wonderful to work with. We were a bit concerned about being on the first floor with foot traffic in front of the unit, however this was not a problem as most people used the beach path. If I had to say anything against the unit it would be that on several occasions the employee door, which is located next to the bedroom, was slammed in early morning hours. Having said that, this would not prevent us from future visits. The beach felt like it personally belonged to us as the views were unobstructed and spectacular. We saw whales, green turtles, spinner dolphins and swam with a giant devil mantaray while snokeling in Molokini. It was an awesome vacation. Thank you!

I stayed here for 5 nights with my 2.5 yr old daughter and it was beyond our expectations. I stopped at the Safeway in Kahului to buy Clorox wipes, among other things, as I usually clean hotel rooms and such upon arrival. I never used the wipes. The condo was impeccably clean and well-stocked. It's the only place I have not given a good wipe-down in years of travel. It was a great start the moment I opened the door! This was the perfect place to stay. Not only was the condo fabulous but the location is ideal. The building itself is on the smaller side and quiet---no hotel doors banging shut at 5am or loud people late into the night. However, there is a large resort right next door which allows for a 2 minute walk to eat at a restaurant while overlooking the ocean---without the daily resort fee! It's just steps to the sand from the lanai and the view is unbelievable. I was able to enjoy the view and feel as if I was on the beach while my daughter napped in the afternoons, opening the windows on the lanai and reading in the sun. I highly recommend this condo for anyone who wants to enjoy the beach and ocean as much as possible during their trip. Booking was a breeze, the directions for driving to and accessing the condo were concise and accurate, and there was not a single glitch in my stay. The housekeeper/caretaker of the condo even called on my last full day there to see if I needed anything and to assure my checkout would be seamless, as well. I almost hesitate to give a good review for fear of competition when booking for another visit next year! ; )

Just being able to walk out 25 steps to the sand was the best experience of all. The location of the condos was excellent being down the beach from the busyness of the main stretch of hotels and activities. The owner information told us about the best guidebook ever "Maui Revealed". We never left our room without it. We'd return here in a heartbeat!

Bay Area Visitors from California on 07/09/2009 said:
I cannot think of a better location and the size of the complex is perfect. The onsite amenities are very good, pool, recreation room, etc. Parking was not an issue and the onsite staff are very friendly. The condo itself was okay, but it is in need of some updating. A bathroom ceiling tile (yes the old fashioned T-Bar) fell out while my daughter was showering and the vertical blinds kept falling out; and the unit had a dank smell, maybe due to the building's age or proximaty to the ocean. It was just felt old and dark. Having said this however, the location did in part make up for the condos shortfalls (somewhat). Tiling the floors and updating the bathroom would go a long long way.
Manager response:
The review we received is the only negative one we have ever received and we are sorry that your feelings about the apartment are negative. The apartment is regularly updated, this one in Q4, 2007 to Q2, 2008, less than five months before your visit. All overstuffed furniture, carpets, cloth on wooden furniture, lights, mattresses, entertainment centers remodeled with all new electronics including DVR and Blu-Ray, the complete lanai including concrete, glass windows and door, bathroom shower enclosure, all tile to granite in kitchen, and even the kitchen sink were replaced; and all furniture resurfaced as needed. The entire apartment was repainted, etc.
The verticals come down in heavy trade winds when the wind interlock doors are not used and the vanes are not opened to where the glass can protect them. We replace them with a call. All tile floors are a problem for people's feet and are a matter of taste, and usually are done for a reduction in cost of flooring.
We provide in your entry papers for orientation and codes, on the front door, refrigerator, and the orientation book the number to call for service of any kind if the apartment is not right. That apartment is not dank, dated, or old. It turns out that the building maintenance people did some work on the building water system above the ceiling in the bathroom, which has T Bar for access to A/C work and other property items, without notifying us, or the service, between rentals. They created the problem. Our policy is to relocate a guest immediately to another equivalent unit when any problem occurs that cannot be handled immediately, which this could not. It requires a phone call. We apologize that you did not care for your stay. But Oh, how we wish we had received a phone call.

I really felt as though I was taking a giant gamble, as I knew nothing about Maui. I can't tell you how lucky I felt that I chose the Maui Kai, in particular, Condo 108. That it was right on the beach provided so much ease for us-- my daughter woke up each day saying, "Ocean, ocean." We met lovely families who were staying in the area, and it was just perfectly located for the slow beach days we craved. The condo itself is lovely and comfortable, and the kitchen is ridiculously well stocked with any bowl or utensil or pot you could want. It enabled us to have tremendous freedom in our day. I would recommend the condo to anyone-- it was perfect and we loved our stay.

When we arrived there was a beautiful basket of fruit and candy to welcome us. It was a lovely touch. But the VIEW was the best part, it was just breath taking, I can still see the ocean in my minds eye as I write. To wake up to that view was amazing. You just open the door and you are on the beach! The resort next door was a nice place to go for morning coffee or even breakfast and dinner. We would stop there in the morning before our walk on the beach. The condo was perfect and there was a book filled with information about the area, places to eat, where to get groceries, entertainment, just everything you would need to get around. We will never forget our visit, your condo made our vacation perfect.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Maui Kai!! It was our first time staying on the West side; normally we stay in Kihei or the North Shore (Paia). It was so nice to be close to Lahaina and Kaanapali. The condo was clean, well stocked, and the gift basket was a really nice touch. It was great to be able to open the door to our lanai and walk literally 5 steps until sand hit our toes!! And having the clean water faucet right outside our door was nice what with two toddlers and all their sandy limbs and beach toys. Since we were so close to the water, we saw probably 10-15 whale breaches a day right from our condo lanai - it was just amazing!! Only negative and it is very, very slight, is that the beach outside the condo had a pretty strong shore break and undertow. It might have just been the time of year we went there....but it was strong enough that we didn't go swimming outside our condo and instead drove to other nearby beaches to do our swimming. Other than that, we had a fabulous time and we hope to return again soon!!

We had to choice of enjoying every sunset from inside or have a 30 sec walk to the beach. Wake up with the breeze of the ocean or chose to snooze in for a couple more hours if needed. We also had access to the computer and printer from the pool house. The hot tub was also nice after a long day in the ocean or hiking.

We were there during whaling season and could spot whales swimming past on a daily basis. There were laundry facilities onsite. The staff at reception were pleasant and helpful despite the fact we were staying in a private rental. Lovely pool area with heated pool, jacuzzi and bbq. Condo #206 was perfect for us! Having read many of the other reviews of this unit, we knew what to expect and were not disappointed. You could not be closer to the ocean if you wanted. It is virtually right outside your window and your view is fantastic! It was January and we did not have to worry about a/C, so we left the window open all night and dreamt to the sound of the waves splashing up against the shoreline. Needless to say, we slept very well! There is no beach front to speak of for this resort so you have to use public beaches, but there are some beach chairs and boogie boards in the room for your use. That was not an issue for us, but I thought I might mention it. The unit is a studio and a little on the small side. I'm not sure it would be as appropriate for families with older children or for more than a couple of adults, but for couples or families with smaller children it works very well. During our stay, we did not spend a lot of time actually in the Condo because there was so much to see and do that we spent almost every waking minute out absorbing what we could of Maui; the culture, the history, the geography, etc. but when we were there we appreciated the kitchen (fully supplied with tableware, utensils and a dishwasher), the bathroom (which had all the amenities), the overall cleanliness, the relaxed decor and the quiet! There is a small safe for your valuables. We were even able to watch the Bronco playoff game! That was the only reason we even turned on the T.V. so I can't say what the extent of the channel lineup is. Location wise, you are snuggled in between a couple of other higher priced resorts, there is a grocery store and a couple of local restaurants nearby and you are only a short distance from Lahaina. A little music spills over from one of the resorts next door in the evening, but that is turned off/down by 10PM or so. I gave this a 5 star rating in every aspect because for us there was absolutely nothing to find wrong!

Maui was lovely and the Maui Kai Condo #206 was a pleasure to stay in. We were at first disappointed that it didn't have a lanai, but quickly realized that with the windows wide open, there was no need. Hearing the waves rolling in directly below was amazing. The condo was very clean and very well set up. The bed is comfortable, and is smaller than we're used to. The kitchen is a pleasure. The laundry facilities are conveniently located down the hall. And, the view is amazing. The location was perfect and amenities (groceries, pina colada ingredients, take-out dinners, gifts, etc.) were available across the street from the condo entrance. While arriving "home" from our excursions, we appreciated the quiet and beautiful entrance to Maui Kai. We loved watching the surfers right outside our window as the swells were amazing. We walked several miles on the beach walk most days and drove up the coast to watch the surfers and visit friends. We mostly enjoy swimming and snorkeling in the ocean and love the warm water and weather. We recommend Condo #206 and Maui Kai as a nice place to stay in Paradise. Thank you.

We randomly stumbled across the Maui Kai some years ago, and now choose to stay there every time we come to Maui. Every room faces the beautiful waters of West Maui, and you could almost jump from your lanai into the ocean. It's that close! Condo 206 was well apportioned Jr Suite, with a comfortable Murphy-bed, Hdtv Big screen., kitchen, bathroom shower, etc. I was thankful for the internet network cable, as the hi-speed direct connection gave me the ability to plugin my laptop and stream TV shows & video not available by in-house cable. Only downside for us was the absence of an outdoor balcony. The design of the Maui Kai doesn't seem to provide the outdoor space at this unit we often enjoyed in other Maui Kai units we've stayed. However, it was not that big a detractor from our pleasure as the big ocean-front windows slide open to the sounds and scents of the ocean. It was also handy to be close to the stairway, so it was much faster to take the stairs then wait for the elevator. I would stay in this unit again, as well as any unit at the Maui Kai. Maui Kai will always remain on our preferred list when vacationing on the Valley Isle.

For my wife and I, this really was the perfect place to stay on Maui. We were a little surprised at how small the condo seemed when we first arrived, but then we were also surprised that it really didn't matter. We had everything that we needed. The Condo was more than comfortable. The location was more than stunning. While we did not see any whales from our window, (it was just a little late in the season) we did see a huge sea turtle swim by. Amazing! The sound of the surf at night was hypnotic. You are so close to the waves that you'll have to close the windows if you want to hear the tv. The condo is not part of the Maui Kai's "service", so you're a little bit of an outsider, but the office staff were still helpful and courteous, and you have access to all of the amenities except daily maid service. If you are looking for a great economical place to stay, and you are a little independant and don't need the pampering of a high end resort, this is a heavenly option!

We flew into Kapulu airport and that was 5 mins away with a grocery store at the corner.

My stay in Maui Kai #206 far exceeded my expectations. The unit was tastefully furnished, well appointed, and had every amenity I needed. I found the beach chairs and towels a particularly welcome touch. The condo was sparkling clean upon arrival and truly felt like a home away from home. I appreciated the ample free parking and close proximity to a grocery store and shops. However, the star of my stay was the spectacular nightly sunset, accompanied by the sound of crashing waves below.

We stayed in the Maui Kai, #206, and I just can't say enough about how great our experience was. The condo was clean and comfortable and fully equipped with whatever we might need. The best part of all is that you can open the large windows, and the ocean is just right outside. To be able to lay in bed and listen to the waves is so relaxing. Our absolute only complaint would be that the internet service seemed less than ideal and we had some problems consistently being able to get on the internet.

The Maui Kai is located not along the busy end of Lahaina but along a more sedate area designed to please those who wish to enjoy the quiet, relaxing on the beach, and a totally relaxed atmosphere. This does not mean that the opportunities for nightlife and more activities are excluded - you just have to look around. There is a multitude of information provided by the condo as well as by the condo owner and on-line. One item that failed to meet our expectations was the screened-in lanai. I must admit to my failure to notice the absence in the description. Love the bilateral ocean breezes, fabulous view, all amenities, clean. Had I not broken my arm in late Feb, this trip might have just been rated 100%. Truly a "God - Like place" on the planet! GREAT CONDO!!!

We recently enjoyed a 10-day stay at Maui Kai Beach Resort unit 206. When we arrived, the unit was in sparkling condition, including all promised amenities in excellent working condition and then some. A gift basket containing fresh local fruit and other goodies was an especially pleasant surprise. As promised, the location of this condo was ideal for beach and especially whale watching; we saw many whales every day from the comfort of our room. We even saw large sea turtles in the ocean right below our window a couple of times. The wall bed was comfortable, and it was nice to be able to put the bed away during the day, allowing us more space for other activities during the day. The kitchen was nicely equipped with everything we needed. The owners also provided a well-organized notebook with recommendations for local activities, restaurants, etc. The condo location is truly ocean front; from our room, we were often closer to the ocean than many people actually sitting on the beach next door. There is also a nice, paved "beachwalk" that starts one property south of the Maui Kai and goes all the way down to the south end of Kaanapali beach. This made it easy to walk to other parts of the beach for snorkeling and swimming and avoided parking headaches. The pool at the condo complex is small, but the spa is large and relaxing. The condo complex is nicely situated within easy walking distance of several grocery stores, a farmer's market, interesting shops and restaurants. This was our first visit to Maui, and we would not hesitate to stay at Maui Kai unit 206 again.

We can't say enough good things about our condo stay in September to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. The condo was updated, very clean and orderly, well organized and laid out and really made our stay most enjoyable. The new flat screen was an added bonus combined with all the movie rentals available downstairs. The Maui Kai really is the closest condo to the water in the Kaanapali Beach area and the staff, grounds, pool, and overall environment were all top notch. I would recommend this unit to anyone who is looking for a quiet stay on Maui with all the beauty and local amenities that the Hyatt, Sheraton, and Ritz have to offer (at half the price).

Boasting an amazing view of the ocean through the windows and the mountain out of the front door, the condo is beautifully laid out and is close to every amenity you could possibly need. We arrived at Maui Kai Beach Resort late in the day on Sat. June 1 after spending a fun filled, but hectic week on the Big Island for our daughter's wedding celebration. We were married 37 years ago in May so Maui was the perfect choice to kick back and relax and to celebrate our anniversary. Mornings and evenings were spent on the lanai enjoying rainbows and sunsets and also spotting sea turtles, spinner dolphins, and watching the many snorklers. Lots of action on that beach for sure. We walked every morning along the beach to the Black Rock area and back. We ate breakfast on the lanai daily, but explored many wonderful restaurants both North and South along the highway. Sensei and Merrimans Restaurants were our favorites. The Maui Kai Resort and Condo #504 was a perfect location for us. The condo is extremely well equipped, very clean, and a very comfortable "home away from home". Unlike a hotel room we didn't really mind spending a lot of time in and around the condo. Great Cd's, the ever constant changing ocean surf, and beautiful sunsets really lulled us to hang around and be grateful for beautiful, private time to relax and rest. Thank you Lyn and al for sharing your lovely place.
Manager response:
Aloha Vicki, Happy Anniversary again! I hope you are still celebrating. We are so happy to hear of the wonderful time you spent on Maui and in our beautiful condo, Maui Kai 504. It sounds like you had a great time enjoying your anniversary and taking in the beauty so observable from our panoramic lanai. I'd impressed you enjoyed those long walks along the beach (or boardwalk) south to Black Rock-isn't that beachfront amazing! It sounds like our favorite restaurants became yours as well. I loved that the sunsets, surf and our CD's lulled you into a true relaxation mode. It sounds like you were able to really soak in the 'magic' of our private lanai and experience the true essence of Maui :) I'm glad the spinner dolphins put on a show for you and the turtle(s) could be observed from our great vantage point. I hope you'll be back to celebrate another memorable occasion in the future!

We arrived at this condo on april 26, 2013 and stayed for 7 days. We were so delighted to find the condo not only very clean but with one of the best views of the ocean I have ever experienced. While at the condo I believe I spent ninety percent of my time on the lanai viewing the sunset and other activities in the water below the condo. The sunsets were breathtaking to say the least. Although we did not see any whales we did see plenty of Marine life from the lanai. This condo is located in a great location and you have plenty of areas to choose from for dinner, shopping and entertainment.. You are within minutes of great snorkeling locations if you choose to leave the condo to explore other areas. However, there really is no need to leave the condo area because there is great snorkeling and other water activity located on the site. They have a very relaxing pool that has plenty of sun or shade depending on your desires. The owners of this condo have taken great lengths to make sure that they have provided enough information on all activities around the area and there is a detailed book that you can reference. The condo has all the amenities that you could possibly want for a vacation site. The TV and entertainment center was excellent and there is also a TV in the bedroom. All of the kitchen equipment is very clean and well taken care of which provides a place for preparing breakfast or any other meal. We felt so at home at this location and believe if you consider it you will also. You cannot go wrong with the price or the accommodations and the clean environment you will be spending your time in. Book it !

Very attentive manager (Lyn Magorno), who managed to stay in touch even though she was abroad and arrange last minute arrangements for me & my family. We were grateful--mahalo, Lyn! The place itself is fine--it's got a beautiful view, hot tub & pool below (not on ocean side FYI), computer & printer access in the poolhouse along with ping-pong (handy if you're still printing boarding passes). Easy parking in the streets below (any spot--1st come, 1st served). The kitchen was very well stocked with utensils, spices, pots/pans. The refrigerator, bathroom, and premises were nice and clean. It's a solid stay. It is slightly smaller (maybe 890sq ft?), but that's to be expected. The pation on the 5th floor with a view & the roar of the ocean below is an awesome lullaby. The only reason I hold back from 5 stars is I reserve that rating to a place that is truly above and beyond all expectations, and this one was just as nice as expected. A solid 4 star stay I do not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Thank you again, Lyn Magorno!

The condo is in a good location with a nice beach on either side of the complex. Duke's Restaurant is just 2 doors down. Parking at Whaler's Village (Kaanapali Beach) is $30.00! But if you eat at one of their restaurants, they will validate parking. A perfect vacation condo!
Manager response:
Aloha Debbie, Thank you so much for your kind words about our condo #504 at Maui Kai. I hope you also enjoyed our new lanai set with swivel chairs that allow you to have a totally clear view over the railing of the 180+ degree panorama of Molokai and Lanai sitting regally in the ocean expanse. Incidentally, the front room TV is a flatscreen only six months old. Because of its connection to Hawaiian cable and the DVR it's best to follow the explicit directions provided on a laminated sheet usually found on the coffee table or TV cabinet. If necessary, a quick call to our on-island contact will help. I'm glad you enjoyed Duke's-just a short walk down the beach and Whaler's Village for it's enjoyable restaurants as well (we always park free-even if you're only buying a small item at an ABC store-you'll be validated.) We saw the photos online, but were blown away when we walked in the front door to an amazing view that drew us out immediately to the large lanai. I lounged on the chaise for a while to soak it all in. 180 degree vista with the islands of Molokai and Lanai to set it off! The lanai set enabled us to see over the railing and we used the swivel chairs to take in everything from a monk seal, whales, catamarans, surfers and to rainbows. We slept wonderfully well hearing the waves from a comfy king bed. That lanai and view awaited us once we rubbed the sleep from our eyes. We discovered they even have free coffee in the morning downstairs (with cups/lids). We'd grab some for our walk along a long stretch of Ka'anapali beach, dabbling our feet in the heavenly surf and sand! We fixed some meals in --the kitchen having everything we needed and more-breakfast was an absolute on the lanai but Maui has such great restaurants, we found ourselves eating out for dinner much of the time. It was great to either have central a/C available or let the ocean breeze in through the sliding doors. Al and Lyn, the owners have made a beautiful condo with lovely furnishings and everything we could imagine...even boogie boards and coolers. Mahalo to you two. We'll be back to 504 as soon as we can!

Older facility, but well-kept. View is outstanding. Air conditioner is very noisy (rattles), so didn't use it. It's all about the 180 degree view right over the ocean. This particular unit has been upgraded very nicely. We'll be back.

We are always happy to hear our guests have enjoyed out condo, #504 with its fantastic views and upgrades. We strive to make our condo as pleasurable for our guests as possible with many amenities, extras and comforts. We do however, appreciate hearing if there is any kind of problem right away. In this case regarding the A/C rattling, if the front desk been contacted, maintenance would have fixed it. There is also the option of calling us or our on-island contact as well, but no one was called. Unfortunately, we were not aware of the issue until reading it in a review online. We immediately called the front desk and maintenance went in and heard the low setting making some noise while the medium and high were ok. A new motor was installed in less than an hour and it very effective and very quiet for everyone. Mahalo, Lyn and Al (owners)

Saw lots of whales in the channel as well as an occasional turtle below and even a pod of dolphins! The "resort" itself had a nice grilling area and even a small pool available. Grocery store nearby. Only did 1 meal "out" @ the Java Jazz restaurant - mediocre for us - would not bother going back there. Wished we had gone to the Gazebo, just a little ways up the road instead. Highlight of the vacation was visiting Little Beach Sunday Night - only for the open minded tho - and doing a zip line @ Piiholo Ranch. Not cheap but very safe and fun! Biggest drawback was finding a place nearby to snorkel / park. Owners take excellent care of their home - we tried to do the same - enjoy!

The first thing you notice when walking into the condo is how spacious it is. It's a large one bedroom. The next thing you notice is the lanai and view. It's unbelievable! Eating breakfast on the lanai is heavenly. Trust me, you will not beat this view anywhere. It's breathtaking. The complex is quiet and steps from the beach (literally). The condo is packed with things you may need for the beach, snorkel gear, boogie boards, towels, etc. Lyn is very helpful if you have any questions as she got back to me quickly via phone and email for the myriad questions I had about Maui. I will absolutely stay at this condo in the future. We had an incredible time.

Ocean view condos at Maui Kai have almost a 360 degree view of the ocean, because this condo complex is literally right next to the ocean. Specifically for this condo, the owner had thought of all the little things to make our stay comfortable, well stocked kitchen. Conveniently located close to a grocery store. Our best snorkeling experience at Black rock (its like a mini molokini without the crowds). Minutes from Lahaina for the ladies to shop. Nice and quiet, several zen moments simply sitting on the lanai and taking in the scenery (sunsets, rainbows)

Having snorkle gear handy was great. The bed was comfortable and the towels made me realize I needed new ones at home. The guide books and local music cds was a nice touch. I will try to stay here again the next time we come to Maui.

We stayed two times at the Maui Kai in the 1980's and have been on holidays, staying at different accommodation on Maui a couple of times since. We decided on this trip to go back to the the Maui Kai due our very good memories of it. The location right on the beach is excellent. The pictures of unit 504 we viewed prior to booking it were exactly as we found it. The view from the balcony overlooking the ocean with views of the islands was fantastic. Nothing beats watching a terrific sunset with a nice bottle of wine enjoying a meal from the barbecue. We saw whales , sea turtles, kite boarders, surfers from the deck. It is possible to walk along the beach or on the boardwalk which starts near the Maui Kai all the way to Black Rock and the Whalers Village. The unit was very comfortable and well stocked with amenities including binoculars, boogie boards, beach mats and books. While we went exploring many other beaches, one of the best features of this location is the ability to go down to the lobby, out the door and be right on the beach and able to go snorkeling right away. The size of the unit is good for 3 adults but would be somehat crowded for more than this.

It's been a couple weeks since we spent 9 days on Maui enjoying our morning coffee and daily sunsets on the lanai of Maui Kai 504 and there hasn't been a day that has passed that I haven't closed my eyes and thought about it. The condo was perfect! We walked in and our expectations were instantly exceeded. The view is breathtaking and the accomodations were thoughtful, clean, organized, and felt just like home. Even though it was our first time to Hawaii and Maui Kai 504, it felt like we had been there before - it just welcomed us in and was a cozy place to rest our heads after our daily Maui adventures. Overall, it felt like Maui Kai (and 504 in particular) was a special little treasure tucked away in the corner of Kaanapali. The grounds are well cared for, the condo is stocked with everything you need (and more!), the beach is just a hop and a skip out the door, and the view in unparalleled. All I can say is, it would be foolish not to jump at a chance to stay in this little piece of heaven. We have made a vow to return (maybe next year?) and enjoy it all over again. Pure bliss.

We spent 6 nights at the Maui Kai in 504. The condo had everything you could possible need or want to make your vacation comfortable. I planned our vacation over 1 year ago and had many email conversations with Lyn Magorne, the owner, asking different questions. Lyn made me feel very comfortable and excited about renting directly from an owner. We have not done that before. She could not have been more accommodating! The condo was so clean, which is one of my number one requirements. We would sit on the lanai every morning and evening and watch the whales and dolphins. I lost count we saw so many! The Maui Kai is located directly on the beach. Just go out the lobby door and you are on the beach! I only wish we were still on the lanai! Thanks for making our vacation stay a memory of a lifetime!
Manager response:
Aloha Clint & Helena,
I wish I could immediately transport you to our lanai. I know what you mean...we have a difficult time leaving it as well! We have the perfect vantage point to enjoy all that is going on from whales and dolphins in the winter to the wind and kite surfers, outriggers, and a multitude of activities at other times. Thank you so much for your kind words-you were a pleasure to have as guests and I enjoyed our emails. We hope you can make a return visit!

Loved, loved, loved staying at #504 of the Maui Kai. It was exactly what we were looking for- a clean, quiet, safe, not run-down place where we can make and eat our own food, in the middle of everything, right on the beach so we don't have to drive to it, and with a spectacular view from our lanai so don't feel "stuck" in our place when the kids were sleeping. It was just a little cramped for our family of 4 but it was fine. We knew it was a one bedroom before we booked it and expected this. By the way, if our kids were older, they could have stayed up later and slept on the sofabed and I don't think it wouldn't have felt that way.... Also, we never closed our lanai sliding doors (the entire ocean facing wall was glass) because we loved hearing the ocean sounds our entire 9 day stay. Even booking it was super easy online. We all (including my 5 year old) still talk about it and miss it a couple of months later. We decided we have to stay here again the next time we go to Maui.

We have just departed from unit 504 at Maui Kai and have left with very positive impressions. We traveled with our two children aged 9 and 11 and would recommend this place to other families wishing to get their own space and get away from the bustle of the resort hotels. The place has a fantastic location right on the beach front, and I mean right on the beach front! Step out of the condo and you are on the beach. Two more steps and you are in the sea! The views are great. Every apartment must get the fantastis view we had. Completely uninterrupted views out to sea. The apartment we stayed in was spotless, and the same could be said of the rest of the place. It is kept in very good order with the BBQ cleaner than I can get my own. The apartment is big enough for two but a little cramped for a family of four, but you knew what we were doing before we booked. The sofa bed in the living room is not the world's most comfortable but what sofa bed is. The unit is so well stocked with the needs of the traveler. Every kitchen utensil is provided as is beach gear, coolers, snorkel sets, iPod dock, good cable package, the list goes on. The place is ideal if you want to get away for some peace and quiet. If you want big pools, resort entertainment, loud music and loud people then go elsewhere. If you want to relax and kick back with your own cooking on the lanai and watch the sea with some cold ones, then this is the place for you.

We stayed in two different condos during our two weeks in the Maui Kai to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. This condo was nicely appointed and has a very comfortable bed with a beautiful view of the ocean and surrounding islands from the lanai and of the in-land mountain valley from the bedroom. We only stayed a few days here, and it looked like the cleaning staff decided not to dust or sweep the floors before we arrived, but that didn't detract from the wonderful dinners we had on the lanai, or the romantic sunsets. The Maui Kai really is the closest condo to the water in the Kaanapali Beach area and the staff, grounds, pool, and overall environment were all top notch. I would recommend this unit to anyone who is looking for a quiet stay on Maui with all the beauty and local amenities that the Hyatt, Sheraton, and Ritz have to offer as well as all the comforts of home.

Thank you so much for renting your condo to us! We had a wonderful vacation and anniversary in Maui, and your condo helped make that experience very special! Leaving was the most difficult part, and if we could have stayed longer, we certainly would have. We took comfort that at the end of the day after going on an excursion around the island that we were coming back to comfortable furnishings, an excellent kitchen, and a nice shower. We loved sitting out on the lanai in the morning, taking in the gorgeous views. The location was great because we were close to some excellent food options and were able to get down to the shops in Lahaina. The beaches were beautiful, and the community was very clean and well kept. Our time there flew by and we did not want to leave. You have a wonderful piece of paradise. Mahalo for sharing it with us. The room was stocked with everything you'd possibly need and the Safeway down the street made grocery shopping less expensive. The condo was perfectly clean and decorated in nice Hawaiian accents. We spent so much time sitting on the lanai just watching the waves, whales, and kite-surfers. We also took in all the visitor sites. Overall on a scale of 1-10, I'd say we had an 11. I previously rented a condo in Honolulu through Aloha Condos so when I was booking a Hawaiian vacation for my parents I knew Aloha Condos was a trusted site with honest representations of the properties they feature. My parents stayed in this condo on Maui for a week and absolutely loved it! The condo was exactly as represented on the website. I let the owners know that I was renting the condo as a gift to my parents for their anniversary and to my surprise they were kind enough to have an anniversary gift waiting for my parents upon their arrival. I have had two very positive experiences with Aloha Condos and would recommend their website to anyone in search of a condo in Hawaii and for anyone looking for a condo in Maui, I would highly recommend this property.

We stayed for the second time at the Maui Kai Condo Complex, UNIT 504 in May of '08 and absolutely loooooved it all over again! We are very excited about returning for a ten day third visit this May 2. We never tire of this unbelievable oceanfront property. We always enjoy sitting on the lanai in the morning (java in hand) watching the wonderful sea parade of whales, spinner dolphins and sea turtles. Later we mosey on down to the awesome sandy beach and take a dip in the waves. If you are not a beach lover there is a pool close by. We are always impressed with how well the grounds are cared for, lush greens and beautiful flowers abound. The condo itself is immaculate, with a well stocked kitchen and furnished with lovely tropical decor. All the niceties of home right here. Did I mention the gorgeous sunsets and colorful rainbows? We would highly recommend this condo to honeymooners, couples or small families. The price is very reasonable too. Al and Lyn, the owners are wonderful people. Quite a few years back we stayed at this resort, and i use that name loosely. The actual apartment was done very nicely; the view of the ocean is very good. There's no reception area per se; the overall building reminds me of a tenement in a poor neighborhood and the pool is across the parking lot surrounded by concrete blocks. There is NO beachfront as there is no beach in front...only ocean. A retaining wall protects the lobby from the ocean rushing in. The shower in the apartment overflowed to the apartment below and not by any fault of ours. My wife and I are very careful and clean when we stay in someone else's apartment. Wouldn't recommend this rental building at all.
Manager response:
Since 2004, we have completely redecorated and made several other upgrades such as an additional granite counter with new maple cabinets in the bathroom, new living room and dining room furnishings and balcony high table and swivel chairs on the lanai. A problem with the shower at the time was quickly remedied. Maui Kai is a smaller structure constructed of cement block which helps to eliminate noise compared to some of the large hotel-type buildings. As Maui Kai has the closest proximity to the ocean in West Maui, it is regularly maintained including re-spalling of the building, new paint and trim. The landscaping of the building has been upgraded with many Hawaiian flowers, plants, and waterfalls.
The pool and spa are part of a larger cabana area which includes an indoor kitchen, bathrooms, computer with printer, ping-pong table, and library. Outside is a large area for sunbathing and visiting, a covered picnic area, and gas barbecues. Perhaps his visit was during one of the rare storms that could bring in high surf and reduce the beach temporarily. However, North Ka'anapali Beach in front of Maui Kai actually stretches for three miles, all the way to Black Rock.
Maui Kai is not a hotel with one a grandiose entryway, but it does have a pleasant sitting area for resting and visiting now complete with orchids and newer furniture as well as free morning coffee and newspapers for purchase. Maui Kai is a location guests enjoy returning to year after year.
