Older unit needs repairs / wiring concerns

Unfortunately we ran into troubles with this townhouse. Our biggest concern was that we were getting sparks from an electrical outlet, and could hear sparking in the wall. We stopped using the outlet immediately. A message to the owners about this issue is still unanswered. So we have also reported it to the Resident Manager of the condo complex. In addition to this, the overhead light in the living room randomly turns off then on again on its own. Other issues: the name and number of the local contact given to us via e-mail was out-of-date. We eventually found an updated contact on a sticky note in the living room. The pool key was not labelled as such, so we thought it was a door key and got locked out on the first day (hence the need for the local contacts number). The remotes for the ceiling fans do not work, and the tops of the fans themselves are thick with caked-on dust. Some of the window louvers no longer work, and the hot water tap in the downstairs bathroom is overtightened and hard to twist. The location of the townhouse and the Condo complex itself (pool, courts, view) are spectacular. This unit is just in need of a wiring inspection and some TLC. We would not rent from it again in its current condition. It appears as though the unit was recent sold (?) so it might be in transition between owners. less

Loved the view!

This worked out perfectly for our family! We especially enjoyed the view of the ocean and watching the surf splash up against the lava rocks. At night, we loved listening to the ocean through the master bedroom windows. It was clean and we got a prompt response to any of our needs. We appreciated the beach towels, snorkel gear, and boogie boards! It is in a nice location, close to shops and restaurants but space from the more touristy parts of town. Would stay here again! less

staycation

Our family loved staying here for our spring break. Very comfortable, and liked all the extras: chairs, boogie board, floaties, kitchen with everything you need, plus nighttime tennis. Would stay again.

Lovely, But needs minor repairs

We have stayed at the neighboring Kona Coast Resort for 25 years in a row. We extended our stay this year and decided to stay here. We have walked through the complex and really love the "Aloha" of the older units right on the water. While our stay in you condo was delightful, there are some items that need repair. The faucet on the lower floor bathroom sink does not function properly. The hot side is too tight. 2nd, Many of the Jalouse windows are broken - the operating mechanisms, not allowing better air flow. 3rd - the screen for the sliding door is torn at the handle and should be replaced. 4th - although we paid for air conditioning, we did not need it. We did attempt to turn it on, only to find the gfci was tripped. Without knowledge of this, we could not have turned it on. We didn't need it, but others may choose to use it. On the plus side, the decorating, the furnishings, the view, the location just cannot be beat. We enjoyed the pool too! Keep up the great unit! (but do a little maintenance before you fall too far behind). less

No one will return our calls

I feel I have no choice but to write this review after three months have gone by and neither the unit owner (Kathryn Hall) nor Aloha Condos will return or calls or emails. My husband and I are two public school teachers in California. We booked a stay for November 2019 to participate in the new Hawaii pre-travel program. (Only until after we booked our stay was travel insurance made available through the site, at which point it was too late.) We were all set and ready to go when California imposed a 14-day quarantine order, which would have rendered us unable to return to work upon returning to CA at a school that is already stretched thin for staff. To make matters worse, COVID was spiking in our area and our tests did not return in time for us to safely board the plane. My husband, who performs temperature screenings for students on campus, began to experience symptoms. We attempted to call and email Ms. Hall to discuss our options and received no response. When we called the property, the manager expressed his own views about Hawaii's safety protocols and encouraged us to ignore them, then ridiculed my husband for wanting to follow the law. Without negative tests in hand, we did not want to be like that couple who knowingly boarded a flight to Hawaii with COVID. We chose to do the right thing hoping that the owner would respect our desire to keep the people of Hawaii safe and allow us to come back another time. Instead, the owner's husband answers the phone and says he will relay our message, but never does, and I have yet to have any contact from Aloha Condos. The only contact we received was an automated message asking us about our stay that never occurred, which generated this review. As two public school teachers, $1,000 of our hard-earned money has disappeared, likely rendering us unable to ever have our dream vacation. We are unlikely to ever risk returning to Hawaii again, but certainly not with this property. All we wanted was the ability to do the right thing and return another time. less

Guest

I had such an amazing stay at Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club town home. We went fishing right outside our room and went swimming in the pool, which was at a short walking distance. It was so relaxing at such an affordable rate. Thank you so much for offering us such a great experience. less

Well appointed townhouse in a great location

Great townhouse in a wonderful location directly ocean front. It was very peaceful listening to the giant waves crash on the lava rocks. Saw a couple of whales and enjoyed the beautiful visiting birds. Grounds are nicely landscaped, large inviting pool, nicely decorated Aloha style condo. Had everything amenity and kitchen wise that you would need, plenty of linens, towels, and toiletries. Very affordable price. Only slight complaint is AC temp couldn’t be adjusted or maybe I just couldn’t figure out how to do it. The attic fan helps to cool the place at night. Would definitely recommend this place to others and would stay here again. They also left a very nice welcoming basket of goodies which was very thoughtful! less

Great location! But the unit needs a new interior paint job.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is fabulous. We saw lots of whales and dolphins from our unit. However, the unit needs a new interior paint job as the paint is very "well used." The place was very, very comfortable with all the amenities in place. We appreciated having our own private corner of Kona. less

Home base for adventure

We have stayed at Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club and will do so again. All of the elements for a great stay are present at this location. Besides being oceanfront, visitors should take note that the condos are in the midst of historic and cultural ruins. Please take our comments as constructive. When we stayed in November there was an heat wave and because we had opted out of air conditioning, there were some uncomfortably hot afternoons. We suggest that the air conditioning be available at no charge year-round, perhaps included in a higher rental fee. With the higher rental fee the lanai could be repaired. We found this location to be an excellent home base for our island adventures. less

Great place on the bluffs

I really liked this place for how reasonable the price was . Yeah it was a little hot upstairs but they had plenty of fans upstairs and an attic fan , slept great ! I would definitely stay here again ! The pool was great for the kids and the location was perfect based on everything to do is so close to town! “The poke shack “ down the street is incredible! “Shaka tacos “ 10 mins south is awesome as well for fish tacos “ less

Perfect place to stay

First we arrived, we have got a welcome Local gift fruits which the taste was so fabulous! (Having it right away). We were there for 3 nights. The location was just perfect! By the sea view, nice outdoor space for chilling (tip: just bring mosquitos spray). The house having every thing; good kitchen, laundry, bathrooms are so cute! Decorate, towels are plenty! Thank you for your place, we’ve got a wonderful vacation in Hawai’i :) less

Nice condo

We stayed in this condo for the Kona side of our vacation end of June. Condo is clean and well appointed. Beds are comfy. Upstairs was very hot, but we did find an attic fan at the end, wasn't mentioned in any paperwork or signs in house. Didn't use because was leaving that day. The breeze did come in at night to cool things down a bit. Downstairs was cool due to AC. Our friends stayed in another unit, same condos. They had a corner unit. If staying in this area again, I would do a corner unit, better breeze, open patio and they had a better view because no ocean wall. Overall, though, really nice to be right on the water, right by the pool (which was wonderful and warm) and great middle location to downtown Kona and the snorkel spots further south. only bad is that this owner will not communicate at all. Once you have a reservation, there is another contact that I was finally able to reach. less

Nice condo--but some disappoinments

Easy to find with good access info and great location. A couple of problems--the AC was pitifully undersized for the unit. Yes, it says the main floor, but it was not clear that that unit would not cool the entire house. So we slept on the floor on cushions on the first floor. That was a major disappointment--in spite of the way the listing was worded--which was not clear. The rest was fine--terrace, location, cleanliness--all good. The booking was charged to our credit card from a place I'd never heard of, so there was confusing the week before over a 'mysterious' charge that turned out to be the condo charge. Why not just make it clear for people? less

Beautiful Ocean

This was our first time in Kona as we usually stay in Maui when visiting Hawaii. We loved this condo for many reasons. The ocean view was amazing. The condo was clean, the kitchen was well stocked and the beds were comfortable. Our only gripe was that the downstairs furniture in our opinion was not comfortable. Although we didn't spend much time indoors. That being said, we will definitely return and would recommend this condo to others! less

Beautiful Condo in a Great Location

This was our first visit to Hawaii and picked this clean & beautiful condo. The location is perfect, close to a grocery store and walking distance from a public beach. There is a clean pool on the grounds that we used as well. Thank you Roger and Kathryn for sharing your condo with us. We will be back! less

Our Happy Place in Kona

This was our 6th visit to Kona and our 4th stay at Kona Surf and Racquet Club. Nothing beats the sound of the surf and the breeze for a relaxing time. The location is central to all activities you would choose to do. We always rush “home” though to be sure we are sitting on the lanai to witness the amazing sunsets. less

— Thomas, Stayed 03/28/2019

Great location

Great location, with amazing views of the Pacific. Couldn't ask for a closer place to the water. During the winter you may actually "feel" waves as they crash on the rocks. 8min walk (2min drive) to a great snorkeling beach and 4miles to town. Unit was very clean and stocked (including beach chairs, cooler and boogie boards). Bring your tennis racquet as there are 3 lit courts on the property next to the large pool. We did not use the BBQ facilities, but have done so in the past to great delight. Wifi worked well and having laundry and A/C in the unit was great. Patio needs a little work, but fine for sitting out, enjoying a beverage while watching the sunset. There are units on either side so not a lot of windo lighting, but who wants to spend time indoors while on vacation. Plenty of room for my family of 4. Overall a great visit. Would definitely recommend the Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club. less

— JAdrian, Stayed 03/11/2019

Kona Surf and Racquet Club

Location is fabulous. Arrival and departure was simple and straightforward. Everything was clean and ready for us. The unit was well appointed and very comfortable.

— Brian, Stayed 03/06/2019

Simple and comfortable

The condo was small but had everything we needed to have a relaxing stay on the big island. We tried several times to contact the host with small questions we had before we arrived but the host never responded. While this didn’t ruin our trip it was a little frustrating to feel ignored. The basket of fruit waiting for us when we arrived was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of beach towels and beach supplies at the condo for us to use which was great. The lanai floor is in rough shape but it was still completely functional and has a fantastic view of the shoreline with waves literally crashing right outside the door. Because this condo is ocean front with few shade trees the afternoon sun makes the upstairs really hot. I would definitely recommend using th AC. I was glad to see that the complex had installed lights for the tennis court this year so we could play tennis after dark. The courts here are excellent. less

During our staying for a week, the roof was being unexpectedly repaired, but as a whole my impression was excellent.

Pay for AC

Hi All, This was an amazing place, I realized that I never got back to you about this. During our stay, we used the AC there that I don't believe that I paid for. Can you please let me know how much and how do I pay for this? Regards, Amit less

I would have given a 0 star rating but that wasn't an option

I booked travel to stay in this condo in order to pick up and register a vehicle that I had shipped from the mainland to Kona. I ended up canceling my trip due to a delay shipping the vehicle from the mainland. In other words, the vehicle wasn't going to arrive during my stay, so I didn't need to be in Kona. I contacted the owner via email on Sep 10, 2018 to notify her that I needed to cancel my stay which was scheduled for Oct 4-11, 2018 (I canceled 23 days in advance of check in). Since my stay was supposed to happen right before the 2018 Ironman World Championship in Kona on Oct 13 (when lodging in Kona is nearly impossible to find), I asked if she would cancel my reservation on the Aloha Condos website immediately to see if she got another booking, which would enable her to refund the cost of my trip without any money out of her pocket. I followed up with the owner 4 times by email and phone between Sep 10-Sep 25, 2018 and never received a single response, and I still haven't heard from her. My husband died several years ago during an international vacation, and since that horrific event, I have purchased trip insurance w/a cancel for any reason upgrade for all international trips and all non-refundable domestic lodging, and this trip was no exception. Given the owner's complete lack of responsiveness to my attempted communications, I have no reason to believe that she will be responsive to any communication from the trip insurance provider either. I filed a claim with the trip insurance provider nearly a month ago (Arch RoamRight), and other than confirming that they received the claim, I have heard nothing from them either. So long story short, if you're looking to book this townhouse and you want or need to communicate with the owner, I highly recommend you look elsewhere. I own a vacation rental property in Kona (which was booked at the time I needed to be in Kona to pick up the vehicle). There is no way that any guest who had paid to stay in my property would have experienced anything like this. When a guest pays an owner $$, the least the owner can do is respond to communication from the guest. To do otherwise is a lack of courtesy and respect. less

Wonderful Stay

The townhouse was great. It had everything I needed for a comfortable stay, including towels, hairdryer and all necessary kitchen appliances and utensils. It was convenient to Kona and all parts of the island. Definitely hope to return in the near future.

Comfort and Views!!!

We loved staying at this condo!! It is on the quieter side of Ali’i drive. The condo had everything we needed and the bed is SUPER comfy!! The back porch is amazing to experience the sounds of the ocean.

Kona Visit June 4 - 7

The unit was perfect, I also loved the fruit basket and consumed it all during my stay. I didn't spend much time in the unit due to reunion activities but it was especially nice to fall asleep with the sound of the waves hitting the shoreline. It reminded of my days at the Puako beach house during the summer months. less

Kona Vacay

Due to the volcano we were on the edge to CANCEL! I am so glad that we didn’t and that we did go on this much needed vacay! This place was our home away from home we enjoyed every minute of our stay here! The views were very pretty, the ocean right out the back door and out your window at night was the bomb! And the swimming pool my kids just was in heaven... YES we will return and we will recommend this house #177. We will be there again soon! less

Location best feature

Cute cozy unit. You can’t beat oceanfront location, proximity to pool & grills, beds were comfy, kitchen well stocked. However the unit could use some repairs inside, deck area & issues with lights/fans, air conditioner looked in poor condition even though we didn’t use. With these issues gone it would have been perfect. Mahalo less

— Lisa, Stayed 03/24/2018

Owner/Manager Response

Mahalo for your input. The items noted have been repaired, including new ceiling fans and lights in all bedrooms. The unit dry wall was repaired with new corner beading that will no longer rust. The wooden window sills that were showing their age due to the salt water were replaced with silestone. The window unit AC, which cools only the downstairs living area, was also replaced with a new unit. The condo was painted from top to bottom. The repair on the lanai tile is scheduled to be done this coming May of 2018. In addition, a new dishwasher was installed. All linens were swapped for new linens and a new California King Mattress is now in place. Some of the side table lamps were swapped for new along with a new teak coffee table in the living room. In addition, new screens were put on all windows. It is back to a much better state than upon your arrival and for that we apologize, as we have not been able to be onsite for awhile due to my Mom being in hospice care in our home for the last 2 plus years.

Don't have high expectations. Cockroaches anyone?

Although this condo promotes ocean front, the ocean is at least 50 feet in front the condo back patio across jagged lava rocks and unaccessible. Because this condo unit is at the end of the row within this condo development, your actually farther away from the ocean as you need to drive somewhere if you want ocean access. The view is nice but most likely not what you're expecting from the description and photos. Hearing the ocean at night can be soothing, however, the loud crashes from the waves against the rocks can be very loud and alarming if you are light sleeper, keeping you up at night. I was very sad to find out the air conditioning unit does not work. There is a large vent fan that you can turn on to flush air out of the unit but if it's hot outside, it just sucks the hot humid air in. There is no air conditioning in this unit that works despite what the descriptions says. There were a infinite number of cockroaches throughout the kitchen and bedrooms. They didn't seem to be too concerned we were around. We stayed at another condo near by and didn't have any issues but this unit had more that we could count. On a positive note, the bed in the master was extremely comfortable and the price is fair. Hope this helps! less

— Justin, Stayed 02/08/2018

Owner/Manager Response

Mahalo for your input. We apologize for misunderstanding that oceanfront meant direct access to the beach or having easy access in/out of the surf’s edge. While we do have guests and see locals jump from the lava rock into the Ocean, we do not recommend this to any of our guests as there is not an easy access to get back out of the water and with the waves, it can be dangerous. This condo is truly Oceanfront and is about as close to the ocean as you can get to without being on a boat and with that you can get the lovely sounds of the surf at night and should there be a storm out in the Pacific, you can also experience larger surf and with that you will hear the sound of the waves crashing. Being this close you can see dolphins and turtles easily from the lanai as well as whales, when they are around the islands, as there is a large drop off with the ocean about 20 feet from the lava’s edge. We had one guest watch the birthing of a baby whale a few years ago!! There is a pebble beach on the North side of the Surf and Racquet, where you can go out and find Hawaiian petroglyphs; however this beach is not a good place for anyone to go swimming due to the lava and currents. The nearest beach by walking is about 12 to 15 minutes at a normal walking pace and by car just minutes away, which is Kahaluu Beach Park which is great for snorkeling, but like many beaches on the Big Island, it has small pebbles versus sand. The large vent fan works well when the trades are blowing (meaning the island is not as humid) to bring in the cooler air from outside in the evening after the sunsets, however when the trades stop and the humidity rises on the island, it can be warmer than normal and it will not help much as you have noted. The AC in the downstairs living room was replaced and works to keep this area cool; however it will not cool down the bedrooms which are on the second floor. The unit is routinely sprayed and the comment noted here was surprise as we have rarely had guests complain about cockroaches in the last 10+ years we have owned the townhome. The other item noted about cockroaches is truly dependent upon on the lanai doors being kept open (especially in the early evening hours near sunset) and food items not being put away in the kitchen, as in the tropics, these two things will lead to more bugs in most condos that are not located in a high rise units. While we recommend that all food items be placed into the refrigerator once opened, to remove the trash daily and ensure all dishes are washed, not everyone follows these tips, which unfortunately can lead to a guest having more unexpected visitors.  After all it is the trpoics, and in the tropics there are more bugs.

Scenic ocean views

This is our fourth year at Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Townhouse 177. We are very disappointed in the current condition of the townhouse. The townhouse has lost its "Aloha" feeling. Also identified some safety issues that I've shared with owner and local contact. The grounds of the complex are beautiful and well maintained. less

— Kathleen, Stayed 02/06/2018

Owner/Manager Response

Mahalo for your input – we apologize for the condition of the townhome during your stay. We have sadly not been able to be there this past year and a half due to my Mom being in our home in hospice which resulted in some of the items we normally manage not getting done. The items you noted have been fixed including the damaged drywall and all ceiling fans are new and functioning better than the old ones that were in the condo. The Lanai tile is scheduled to be replaced in May 2018. Lastly, we have a new island contact who exudes the Aloha spirit and is able to be much more responsive to addressing concerns raised by guests in a timely fashion.

Amazing Views, Beautiful Townhome, Very Comfortable

Title says it all. The pictures on the website were beautiful, but were not as breathtaking as being there in person. The unit was well equipped for both the two of us and for entertaining. We were there with a group for an anniversary party and enjoyed sunset on the lanai both by ourselves and with the group. The welcome basket was much appreciated. We walked to the beach and snorkeled there more than once. Plus the sites in and around Kona made this an ideal base for our week on the island. We highly recommend the night snorkel with the Mantas, it can't happen anywhere else in the world and seeing them from Ray's on the Beach during dinner was very cool. Thank you for sharing your townhome, when we come back to Kona we will seek it out again. less

AC desperately needed

The townhome itself was great, but with no AC upstairs, it was unbearably hot, which made for 3 miserable nights. At the end of Oct., the temps should have been in the mid-70's but they were in the mid- to high-80's with a lot of humidity. My son slept on the couch downstairs with the AC, so sleeping comfort left a lot to be desired for both of us. On the positive side, the oceanside view was great, the amenities were very good, parking was easy, and it is a beautiful area. Put AC upstairs and it would be wonderful. less

— Valere, Stayed 11/10/2017

Best sunset!

This unit is part of a beautiful resort right overlooking the Pacific Ocean offering amazing sunsets night after night. It is well furnished with extremely comfortable master bed . The kitchen has all the amenities you can dream of. On the downside the air conditioning unit is noisy and located on the main floor it really should be located on the top floor as this is where you really need it when you sleep. The unit is beat up it would need several renovations but it is clean and we felt welcome. Thanks to the owner and their administrators. Mahalo. less

Pros and cons of Townhome 177

We loved the privacy of sitting on the terrace of unit 177, watching the ocean and sometimes the whales and dolphins. The ocean view from both floors of the condo feels like being on a boat. The waves were a bit load a few nights during our stay of 3 weeks and we had to put on ear plugs. The other nights were just lovely. This unit is very nicely decorated, has lots of amenities for the kitchen and bathrooms (shampoo, soap, scottowel, etc.). The living room sofas are new and very comfortable, the beds and pillows are also very good quality. On the minus side, our emails were left unanswered during some time from the owners (regarding A/C problem, it took about 10 days). Also, the years are showing on the walls and a new coat of white paint would bring light and freshness. Overall, we loved Unit 177 and we recommend it. less

All the comforts of home but with a WOW factor

Was pleasantly surprised at the care taken to make this a home away from home for us. Everything you could need was supplied for your stay except the food. When they said ocean side, I was not expecting to have waves crashing and splashing so close, and it was wonderful. Only downside was that we paid for air conditioning, but the little a/c unit did nothing to cool the room and no a/c in the bedrooms. So don't bother to pay extra for it. less

It's Ocean Side, But...

My wife and I stayed at Townhome 177 for 4 nights in early Feb and thoroughly enjoyed the time spent at the Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club complex. In fact we stayed in a condo unit next door the following week when friends came over for another 10 days. 177 is a nice unit, well equipped, clean, and sits oceanside. The latter trait presented a problem for us. The first floor lanai area feels like sitting in an office cubicle, giving one a tunnel-vision view of the lava rock retaining wall. The view from the upstairs bedroom was great, but sitting on the lanai wasn't. One other small complaint centered on the fan system. I have no problem with fans and they worked properly, except the kitchen and bath ones. We worked around them as the on-site manager said they were working on correcting the problem. The unit is starting to show it's age but this is typical of condos of a certain age in the rough, damp, humid climate of Hawaii. And the surf pounding the shoreline would transfer through the lava based foundation and noticeably shake the building. I can imagine that this would be of concern for some people. Overall I feel the items mentioned are not great concerns and we had a wonderful time. The Surf & Racquet Club is a gated community, quiet, clean, grounds well-maintained, with a small mall just up the hill. Although located about 5 miles south of the main tourist area of downtown Kailua-Kona, the complex is located on Alii Drive which provides quick access to the sights and sounds of West Hawai'i. less

Condo #177. Excellent!

We spent a week in condo #177 in February.. The grounds for the surf and racquet club were kept very well. It was clean, with nicely landscaped common areas. The condo itself was spotless when we moved in for our 8 day stay. The unit was very well appointed and everything worked as it should. This is ocean front, if you are a light sleeper, you may have trouble with the constant waves crashing on the volcanic rocks below.. it didn't bother me, I slept great, but hubby didn't sleep as well. It was no fault of the bed, it was very comfortable. The fans and the open windows kept the condo at a perfect temp. We used the pool which was also very clean, the tennis courts look very well maintained although we didn't use them. Also used the BBQ in the common area, it was it good repair and clean. Enjoyed and used the coolers, beach chairs and boogie board. The owner has thought of everything that we needed. The mostly private beach just a quick walk to the north is a treasure. We liked the location, the privacy, watching the whales and the dolphins. But the star here is the pounding ocean right outside of your lanai.. less

Amazing Sunset & Surf Views from Townhouse 177

Aloha. This was our third trip to the Big Island and stay at Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet townhouse 177. This trip was a wonderful break from our snow shoveling chores over the last few weeks. The townhouse was very clean. We appreciated the updates in the kitchen & living room. When we weren't snorkeling, walking or sight seeing, our time was spent on the lanai enjoying the terrific surf. The fruit basket was welcoming and greatly appreciated. We enjoy the grounds of Keauhou Surf & Racquet, lots of beautiful flowers & trees. Walking to the black sand beach, looking for the petroglyphs at low tide or enjoying a glass of wine at sunset, add to our wonderful experience. We love this location & hope to be back. Mahalo less

Cozy and Clean

We enjoyed our weekend stay very much at this townhome which included all the amenities we needed and more. The unit was nice, clean and comfortable for us, and provided the right amount of space for our visit. We had a great oceanfront view and during 1 of our nights the crashing waves reminded us of this. The pool was nearby and the area was clean and the water was cool. Thanks also to the condo mgr.(Tom) who was friendly and helpful in getting the TV up and running. less

Scenic Oceanfront Condo

The waves crash on the seawall next to this oceanfront condo, which we've stayed in several times over the years. The sunsets are beautiful and the tennis courts, fees included, are next to the units. Two bedrooms are up a long staircase, with a small living room and kitchen downstairs. Meals are best enjoyed on the patio, with the magnificent view of the ocean. The local contact was very helpful, our wifi went down once and he also helped hunt for an item that was missing when I unpacked my bags upon returning home. Definitely check out this condo if your plans include the Kona/Keauhou area. less

Trip to Paradise

It was so nice to arrive at your beautiful condo. We were finally able to fly out of Denver after a 40-mile an hour blizzard delivered 2 feet of snow which caused our flight to be delayed by a day and a half. When we arrived we were too tired to stop at the grocery store. We were welcomed to Kona by a wonderful basket filled with snacks and delicious fresh fruit. The condo was clean and beautiful. It was stocked with everything we needed from fresh sheets to plenty of towels to kitchen supplies. The directions to the condo from the airport were easy to follow especially driving there in the dark. We woke to find it even more beautiful in the light of the day. We were welcomed by two Monk seals playing in the ocean right outside near the lani. There are beaches and a lava tube , a grocery store and restaurants within walking distance. The area the condo is located in is absolutely beautiful. What a wonderful trip. Thank you so much. We look forward to future trips to Kona and staying only at your condo. The only complaint we had was having to leave when our vacation ended. less

Another great stay in #177!!

Perfect place to enjoy the Big Island!! The condo is well appointed and has an amazing oceanfront view! There's a beach to the north end of the property to hang out and enjoy the sunset. Perfect location to everywhere! Walk to One of the best snorkel beaches and a quick drive to town, two-step and Kohala Beaches. Love the extras the owners leave, nice beach towels and backpack chairs. They even leave condiments and cleaning products which is appreciated. OUR STAY -2 COUPLES

Making reservation and instructionsto condo were great. Well appointed kitchen. Broken beach umbrella and no clothes dryer (98 humidity to self dry). The dryer repairman came right after the cleaner and left the floor dirty. You couldn't really tell from the photos that the furniture is way too large for the unit and it is cramped feeling. A better place for parents and kid as the rooms are not at all equal. Noise from the tennis court (early!) , pool and through walls. Much deferred maintenance and deep cleaning inside. Nice on site management. less

Townhome 177 was the best!

We had a fantastic first stay in Hawaii and Townhome 177 was just perfect for our family of 3. It was very clean and comfortable and had all the necessities like linens, dish soap, laundry soap and beach gear etc. The list could go on and on. It was so great to be able to sit on the lanai and watch the whales. The pool was nice and close so we could take our 7 year old there without any hassle. The grounds of the complex are beautiful as well. Lush tropical vegetation that provided some shade. The shopping center for groceries was a short drive away (2-3 minutes) and we could have walked to a nice little beach park for snorkelling as well if we wanted. (1-2 minute drive). I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to friends and family and would definitely return if we are lucky enough to come back to the big island for another vacation. Dealing with the rental company was easy and hassle free. less

We were extremely impressed with the position of the condo near the water, thoroughly enjoying falling asleep to water lapping on the shoreline. The facilities provided everything we could have wanted (cooking, cleaning, games, sports, TV) and the nearby shopping centre was very handy. This was an ideal base to travel around Big Island. Gorgeous Townhouse and Great Location!

Our family stayed at this townhome for our first trip to the big island. It had everything we needed for going to the beaches. Beautiful resort with great pool area. The decor is beautiful and very homey. We really loved having a bath on each floor (the shower dispensers were great). The lanai right on the ocean was such a treat. The only negative was that the surf got high on our last night necessitating closing up the ocean side of the lower level. That high surf was a wonder to behold, however! Absolutely loved the wonderful fruit and treat basket--we enjoyed it all. We didn't take the a/C and didn't need it with the ocean breezes coming through the home and the ceiling fans. We took advantage of the grill that was available for our use to grill some fresh fish we bought at Bite Me Fish Market--yummy! The kitchen was very well equipped. This is a gated resort, so was very secure. If we're ever lucky enough to come to the Big island again, we'll definitely stay here again. less

This townhome suited our needs perfectly - ocean front with the surf pounding! The owner has done a very nice job with the decor. The kitchen was well stocked with whatever we needed. It was clean when we arrived. This is nicely located. We found no problem in seeing the entire island from this location for day trips. We had a repair issue that needed attention while we were there. The local contact did the repair in a very timely manner. This was by far the easiest and most efficient reservation I have ever had. Everything about this property was spot on and the location/ambiance was perfect. I love to cook and the kitchen had every appliance I wanted, I was very pleased at this. The place was very clean and well furnished. We used the exhaust fan as the sun went down and never needed the aC, it was just perfect. I found the location to be awesome, near the end of the units so not a lot of foot or car traffic. And it was very near the pool and tennis courts. Bottom line. I have recommended this place to many many friends and families. Great first visit to Hawaii

Had a fantastic time at the townhouse. Loved the location - right by a fantastic beach for snorkeling and surfing lessons, and plenty of good and interesting restaurants nearby. Played tennis every day on the well-lit courts. Saw a large pod of dolphins the first morning, and whales periodically breaching throughout the week. Loved the variety of birds in the morning as well. The a/C was locked when we arrived, but Chuck and Bruce quickly responded and came to unlock it and even refunded us for the time that it took them to get there, great customer service! Enjoyed the snorkeling equipment, guidebooks, and kitchen appliances included - our one suggestion would be to update the binder put together by the owners since some of the info was out of date (the wi-fi for instance). Well stocked, quiet, right on the ocean.

This townhouse is in a great, quiet community right on the ocean (lava rock, no beach). The townhouse was stocked with everything you could need and more. We appreciated the very nice welcome basket on arrival and the use of guidebooks better than ours during our stay. Both bedrooms and a bathroom are upstairs, with another bathroom, the kitchen, dining area, and living room downstairs. There is a lanai that is partially covered and opens onto a lava rock cliff into the ocean. The lanai is not totally private as the 3 other units in this section share the same ocean view area. The only thing we could complain about is the aC is a window unit downstairs so the cool air doesn't reach the bedrooms upstairs. It's not a problem at night since open windows allow the breeze through, but it's warm up there during the day. We didn't use the extra bedroom but it would be a great rental for a family traveling with 1 or 2 children. Overall this was a nice place to stay and we would recommend it. less

Excellent communication between owner and aloha condos, management firm for condo. Owner was helpful throughout prior to booking with questions and activites available on island. Condo is well equipment compare to prior units I have stayed in. Location, location...awesome for those not wanting to be right in Kona. Resort is located off ali road, but far enough away you will not here traffic, even if outside enjoying the well groomed landscape. Love being right on the beach with the lava wall in front. Easy walk to the beach and great location for having a rental car and quick access to beautiful coastline of kona. Must be prime location for local snorkeling charters. They stop outside the unit. We saw spinners dolfins almost every morning in front of unit. One day they even swam up close to the lava wall within 15 feet of shore. The master bedroom king is very, very comfortable, a very important item for me with a bad back. Often pay high dollar for a rental and then have a poor bed...not too hard and not too soft, should of look to see if it was one of those high dollar memory foam bed, sure felt like. Owner supplied several good quality masks and snorkels along with beach items including two boogie boards. Use masks but not boards. Needed bring large beach towels, she provides mats for laying on beach plus very good size beach towels. If I return to Kona again, I hope to stay here again, will not even spend the time searching other resorts. Didn't spend anytime at resorts so can't complement on amenties, however gate access easy and tennis courts in excellent condition and well lite at night. Pool is decent size compared to others I have seen at different resorts nearby. less

Mahalo for the feedback and we apologize for the inconvenience with the faulty alarm clocks and CD Player during your stay. We have had these items replaced. Top Notch

Our stay at the Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club was such a wonderful experience. We enjoyed our two week stay watching the whales playing each morning from our lanai. Sleeping to the sound of the surf on the lava rock was soothing for the most part, but did get rather loud sometimes! Each evening after we explored the island we would return "home" to watch the gorgeous sunsets over the Pacific. Comfort and Relaxation in Kona

We were hesitant to stay at the same place we had been to 27 years ago! However, it turned out to be a wonderful choice. Being greeted with a basket of goodies and tote bag was a great surprise! The decor was wonderful, all furnishings were above average and the quality of bed linens and towels were appreciated. It was also great to have the coolers, beach mats etc. for our stay. The location worked for us with downtown a few minutes away, a grocery close by... and of course the pool a few steps away! We enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and watched the whales from the lanai. Being from the north and used to our 'quiet' mountains and snow, the noise of the waves crashing against the rocks outside the townhome took a little getting used to, but we did our best! less

Great place to stay on the Big Island

We booked this townhome through Aloha Condos, becuase it provided a very good description and numerous pictures, showing you exactly what you'll be getting. It you want oceanfront, this is as close as you will ever get! The ocean thunders right up to a seawall just a few feet in front of the condo, and at high tide some waves actually cause the condo to shake a little. It is lovely to sit outside on the lanai and watch the water and the sunset -- we ate most of our meals out there. The condo is very well equipped, has everything you would need. We did't use the tennis rackets or the beach equipment, but it was nice to know it was there. The kitchen is small but completely equipped, full size fridge, range and dishwasher. The Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club is very nice, with a large pool and several tennis courts available. We enjoyed the quite, laid back atmosphere. Close by is Keahou Shopping Center, which has a grocery store, a drug store, and several small restaurants. All in all a great place to stay. less

A Perfect Place to Stay in Kona

This condo has it all. Two bedrooms, living room, two bathrooms, kitchen, gorgeous patio (lanai), and a view of waves crashing against the lava rock boulders along the shore 10 feet away. Tastefully decorated in island decor. Kitchen has all utensils and cooking supplies you need. Condo even included coolers and snorkel equipment to borrow. Master bedroom with louvered windows that provide stunning view of ocean. If we had wanted to play tennis, we could have brought our racquets and walked 10 yards to the court and play for free. Located about a 15 minute drive south of the Kona city center with all the shops and restaurants. No noise from vehicles along Alii drive. The only noise is the crash of the waves against the shore. This was the first half of our honeymoon and we had a marvelous time. Cooked dinner multiple nights in the kitchen and then ate out on the lanai, watching the sun set to the west over the ocean. Condo is clean, comfortable, well-decorated, and well-equipped, not to mention reasonably priced for HAWAII! We couldn't have asked for anything more. less

Enjoyable Experience

The grounds were well kept, the pool was awesome, the home was clean, the furnishings were in excellent condition and the house was nicely decorated. The house is oceanfront with an awesome view. We had the upstairs master bedroom windows open to help keep us cool at night. With the home being oceanfront it means constant waves crashing against the rocks. This is awesome but also takes some time getting use to if your use to quiet conditions when falling asleep. Probably my least favorite thing about the home is the air conditioning unit. It's in the livingroom with the back half in the lanai. It is noisy but efficient for the downstairs part of the house. We turned it off when using the lanai. This is the second home I have rented in Hawaii with air and both were the same way. The home has fans in every room if the heat/humidity is not an issue for you. I would reccomend and rent this unit again. less

Great place to stay!

We elected to try the condo instead of taking 2 hotel rooms for a family of 4 - priced about the sam. It's right on the water... just a few feet beyond the patio is the ocean about 10 feet below. We watched the sunset having dinner on the patio. A shopping center with supermarket is very closeby. Overall a great, comfortable experience....we'll definitely go again! less

Waterfront Heaven

This unit was a delight for the week we were there. Breakfast on the lanai, then a quick dip in the pool and off for a day's adventures. The furnishings are elegant and complete...just bring your Aloha spirit and expect to have a wonderful time. I would rent it again. less

Good Value/Nice View

Older units...excellent value and view. It would be nice to have air conditioning upstairs; it got a little hot at night.

relaxing trip

This was a very nice townhouse on a great spot. The view was awesome and very relaxing. The complex was gated and quiet. I liked exploring the archeological sites on the property. The adjacent beach was nice and the area was quiet. It is close enough to Kona to be convenient, but far enough away to be peaceful. The owners left informative and helpful notes for us and the supplies of soap, shampoo, etc were generous. We would definitely recommend this townhouse to others. We had a very nice stay. less

Well appointed condo - it was perfect

My wife and I honeymooned here. The condo was great. It had everything we needed to make it home for a week so all we had to buy was food and beverage. Since there was just two of us, this condo had more room than we needed but it worked out great. It would also work out well for two couples or a family of 4. The pricing was reasonable and the location right on the ocean was perfect. We highly recommend this condo. less

Great Condo

We had an excellent time while we stayed at this condo. The condo was well furnished and equiped with everything you would need for a hawaiian vacation. There were beach towels, boogie boards, a lunch cooler and games. The space was ample for 4-5 people. The lanai was comfortable and provided a great view of the ocean. Beach access was easy and there was plenty to do nearby. I would recommend staying on this side of the island and only taking a 1 day trip to the volcano instead of staying on that side of the island. I would highly recommend staying in this condo and would do so again if we ever return to this island. less

Terrific View and Terrific Price!

My fiancee and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in townhome 177. The property was clean and spacious and had an amazing view of the ocean -- it was right out our door! We slept with the windows open and fell asleep to the sounds of the crashing waves. Best of all, the rate was very affordable. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others! less

AMAZING

This is a piece of paradise! What an amazing place! Located 20 minutes south of the airport, and 5-10 south of downtown Kona, it was the perfect location. This 2BR/2bath condo is oceanfront, with a beautiful lanai with only a few feet of lava separating you from from the Pacific ocean. You are lulled to sleep by the sounds of the waves crashing onto the lava. From this lanai we watched spinner dolphins play every morning, humpback whales pass by, and watched the sun set into the sea. The condo was extremely clean and well furnished, equipped with everything we needed and more! Wireless internet, all cooking utensils, spices, tupperware for picnics, coolers, beach chairs, beach towels, boogie boards, snorkel equipment, movies, 3 tvs, dvd players, ac, fans, tour books, restaurant recommendations... the list is endless... the owners even had flashlights to use on the search for lava on the evening hike through Volcano National Park! The owners were also very prompt and friendly in all our interactions. The resort itself was well landscaped, with a nice pool and tennis courts, and several ruins of Hawaiian temples and places of worship. It was quiet and peaceful. There is a a small beach at the end of the property that just teems with green sea turtles! Further down the walk, there is Kahalu'u Beach, a salt and pepper sand beach that has great snorkeling and full facilities. It was hard to swim here without almost running into turtles! :) I have nothing negative to say about our stay at TH #177. It was a beautiful place to stay in paradise, that exceeded my expectations in every way. We were tempted to cancel our next reservation on Waikiki Beach so we could enjoy this piece of paradise a bit longer! Location, amenities, decor, activities, view, and cleanliness are all superb. I would love to return there asap! less

Excellent location to stay!

First time visiting the Big Island, and I came with my wife and two teenage daughters, and this was perfect! Two separate bedrooms, and separate beds for each daughter, made the sleeping arrangements perfect. Having a full kitchen, living/dinig room, and 2 full baths made it feel like a home away from home. The lanai overlooking the ocean made the mornings and evenings a delight, seeing the sun rise and set over the wide expanse of hte ocean. It is furnished with everything you could need (beach stuff, dishes, even washer/dryer). Would definitely recommend this property to anyone - correspondence befoe arriving was very detailed, with detailed directions, maps and very responsive to questions. Being about 5 mins from the town, you don't feel like you have to fight the crowds, but can easily access beaches, shops, etc. I have nothing but praise for the property and owner, and am hoping to return and stay here again soon. less

Great location

We found out about this condo through Trip Advisor and it was very well rated there and we agree! We really appreciated the fully equipped kitchen and washer/dryer in the unit. The built-in safe in the master bedroom was nice for that sense of security. We also really liked the extra bathroom downstairs, especially for rinsing out and drying swimsuits and snorkel gear inside, without worrying about leaving them outside. We really enjoyed watching multiple sunsets over the crashing waves from the privacy of the back patio. The only downside was that the water was too rough to go swimming, especially with all the sharp rocks. The complex felt very private and secluded, while still being close to town. We walked along the coast to Kahaluu Beach, about half a mile north. It wasn't an easy walk, lots of black lava rock, so we walked back along the road. There were a lot of turtles and fish in the shallow water at Kahaluu and was really good snorkeling. The unit was very comfortable, although it was rather humid, so we should have sprung for the air conditioning, but the ceiling fans and house fan helped. I would definitely go back and stay again. less

Perfect Kona vacation

My husband and I spent four days at the townhouse and wish that we had spent our entire vacation there. The townhouse was lovely, we had everything we needed, in the kitchen, bath, laundry and even for the beach. The gated community made us feel secure and the pool was very clean and well-maintained. Nice notes around the house gave quick advice that helped create a perfect stay. We were close to so many activities--whale watching tours, beaches, shopping, coffee farms, restaurants, etc. We saw whales spouting just offshore while having breakfast on the lanai, and the sunsets were just beautiful. Nothing can compare with listening to the surf all night long. I would definitely recommend this very clean and well-appointed townhouse to anyone traveling to the Big Island. We are looking forward to returning for a longer stay. less

little beach cottage in paradise

Had a pleasant time in this nicely decorated townhome. We mostly travel to Maui, but this was a treat walking out on our patio and seeing the big crash of white water on the lava rocks. The grounds have quite a bit of history and are absolutly beatiful. Just a short walk to the beach and then on to the Outrigger for cocktails and Pu Pu's. Our only problem was having to board up the downstairs for high surf. Other than that it was better than any of the hotels we saw on our short stay in Keouhoe. We would deffinately stay there again if we ever get back to the big island. Mahalo The Adams-Vandal Family less

Outstanding - what a view!!

Can't wait to return! My sister, Mom and I stayed here for four days in February to celebrate Mom's 80th birthday. The condo is spacious, exceptionally clean and beautifully appointed, just a perfect place to relax after our busy days. We saw whales from the lanai every day, and chose not to eat out at all given the view and the full kitchen! The resort grounds are lush and relaxing, and very quiet. Thank you! less

Big Island

Highly recommended, the condo is right on the water. When the surf is up you can feel the vibrations of the waves pounding the rocks. The views from the condo are great plus the sunsets are also something to see. My wife and i have stayed in Hawaii several times and this was one of the best condos we stayed in. The cost also was not that expensive compered to booking through Orbitz which i have done in the past for trips to Maui If i was to visit the Big Island again i would make every effort to stay there again less

Comfort & Location

After visiting all of the islands and staying in multiple hotels, we finally found a place that feels like home. Going to sleep each night to the sound of the surf is sheer bliss in and off itself and the comfy beds just added to the experience. Sitting not 10 feet from the ocean each evening for cocktails while watching the 'green flash' was the icing on the cake. Might I add, the sound of the birds in the morning from the guest room was a daily reminder that we were in paradise. We loved the central location and being w/in walking distance of shopping, farmers markets, excellent snorkeling and the free trolley downtown if we didn't feel like getting in the car and driving. We really appreciated the provided beach toys, towels and coolers and used them almost every day. Although this is a large complex, it felt very private and comfy to us. We loved it, can't way to return again-loved the fact that it was secured. less

We appreciated the extras

My husband and 2 kids (12 & 9)stayed here in Feb., 2009 for 10 nights. It was very comfortable and we loved hearing the waves at night. In addition to the cooler, beach mats, chairs and boogie board, we really appreciated the dish soap, detergent, shampoo, soap, paper towels, etc. the were also provided. The kitchen was well stocked and I loved the extra spices, etc. that were left. (we also contributed to the stock!) And we also loved the movie and game selection in your condo. We were sad to leave - which is the mark of a great vacation. I would definitely recommend your townhouse! less

Beautiful Hawaii

Our family enjoyed our stay so much. The view of the ocean was spectacular, especially with the sounds of the waves crashing over the rocks. This was our fourth trip to the islands, so we are familiar with the area. The condo was completely furnished with every item you would want or need, including plenty of towels, and kitchen stuff. It was super clean and super comfortable. We would definitely recommend this place. Aloha and mahalo! mlp less
