The lanai is small but still was able to enjoy the view and activity of the harbor. Many places to eat that were close to the condo. The Hilton Lagoon was only a 5 minute walk away. We were even able to watch them film a couple of Hawaii Five-0 scenes. Also enjoyed just being able to stroll down Waikiki and then on Friday nights enjoying the fire works. ”

Only a few recommendations, Kitchen a+, Living and dining room a, lanai was small but we knew that and it did fit two chairs, bathroom and dressing room and hall could use a fresh coat of paint with some updates done to the bathroom, a new blanket for the bed would be nice and removal of that portable air conditioner, bedroom window couldn't be opened because of it. “ The condo had everything that we needed for a decent price...location was perfect (close to ala Moana shopping mall, on the quiet end of Waikiki beach area, 5 min walk to the Lagoon and Waikiki beach, 5 min walk to Hilton Hawaiian Village, across the street from aBC store, tour bus pickups at the Ilikai Hotel), and view was fabulous. Condo was clean and well equipped. Full kitchen allowed us to save on costs eating out although food cost in Hawaii was still a shocker. Free internet and phone calls to us and Canada was great for keeping in touch with friends and family. Because the condo is on the 3rd floor, guests should be aware that traffic noise is very noticeable especially the garbage trucks that comes around early in the morning around 8:00. Didnt bother me but my wife who was a light sleeper found it very annoying. Condo could do with some updates to make the guest experience better: a tiny 21 inch (?) TV just doesn't cut it these days when most people have 36 inch or more, the bathroom needs repair/updating as water from the shower seems to leak all over the floor, the sofabed needs to be replaced as it is not comfortable, the kitchen knives needs a good sharpening as all of them were dull and hardly able to cut an apple. More beach towels and snorkels/masks would be nice. Also checkout is at 11:00am and there is no luggage storage service available in the Marina. If you have a late flight you can use the Ilikai Hotel (across the street) storage service for which they will charge $1 a bag. ”

Met our needs

“ The condo simply met our needs for our trip which was a place to eat and sleep. I was expecting it to do just that, however I was a little disappointed with a few things. 1. I was under the impression that getting into our room would be very easy and all we had to do was to type the passcode to get in. We tried it several times and then called for help. The lady on the phone wasn't very helpful. She told me several times to try the same exact code we had been trying and said she could hear it clicking assuming that I wasn't doing it right she told me to try and try again. I finally got fed up and told her to send someone. Sure enough we had the wrong passcode. After being on a plane for 10 hours this was the last thing I wanted to deal with. 2. The website said that the beach was a 1 minute walk and I am assuming it was referring to the small quiet pond like body of water however the real beach is about a 5 minute walk. 3. The ac unit did not cool the condo very well. 4. The beach towels that were left for us were two very small towels. I was very surprised that there were only two especially considering the size of them. Like I said the condo met out needs and had the necessities however the necessities need a little work. ”

Manager response:

“ We very rarely receive a complaint about the electronic key pad.
Our Local Contact Person on duty answered the call and immediately began troubleshooting the problem over the phone. When it was evident that there was more than user error, within minutes staff arrived at the condo to reprogram the lock.
Our staff got the guest safely in the condo with in 10 minutes of the call ( faster than a Hotel check in) and apologized for the inconvenience. We understand that Hawaii is a long way from everywhere and that travelers are tired when they arrive.

Regarding the AC, the condo has a supplemental portable AC. It is very powerful, up to date, quiet and works very well if someone does need extra AC.
The Lagoon and Waikiki Beach is within a 5 minute walk. Ala Moana Beach Park is within a 10- 15 minute walk. We provide one Beach Towel ( full size) per registered guest. We do not provide Beach Blankets however the condo is also equipped with a Beach Cooler and Beach Chairs for your enjoyment. Aloha. ”

The one drawback was the boogie boards, they need to be updated more suited to small children and it would have been nice to have some flippers for the snorkel gear. We walked into a beautifully arranged apt. with everything there that we could possibly need to get started on a most wonderful vacation. Anything lacking cold be purchased a block away at the aBC store, we thought the prices were fair, and they sold a wonderful array of fresh salads. We loved the location of our room on the third floor, we spend a great deal of time on the lanai overlooking the boat people and some of the tings that occurred were most interesting, It kept us very well entertained. The trolleys and buses were within easy walking distance (even for an 85 year old}. Also, a church was near by, and the Chart room was an added plus. I think perhaps what we realy appreciated was the nearness to everything we wanted to see and do. And then, after a busy day of sunshine and shopping we could come home to a quiet and lovely home like atmosphere. ”

Good deal for the price

“ We spent 2 weeks in this unit and we enjoyed it alot. Location was relatively quaiet at the very beginning of Waikiki. About 20 min walk to International Market Place one way and 15 minutes to ala Moana shopping center the other way. Full kitchen made it very easy to prepare breakfasts and occasional diner. All you need is there for your use: plates, bowls, utencills, skilletts, pots, wine glasses, blender, toaster etc. In addition the closet is full of beach equipment from towels, sun umbrella, snorkle gear to kids sand toys, floaties, beach chairs etc. The bathroom can use a facelift and a coat of new paint would go a long way. Bus stop just steps away. Since we made a point of walking everywhere to get some vacation exercise, we walked to Walmart in 25-30 min, Don Quijote asian market on Kaheka Street in 20 min, the Zoo in 40 min. Nice view of the Marina. As mentioned by some other reviewers some street noise was noticable around 8:30 am. Building's aC is not the best so a second portable unit was placed in the bedroom. It helped alot but could have been installed in more professional way. All in all for the price it was an outstanding deal and location. Pre-arrival communication and directions received from aloha Condos were excellent. ”

( my wife has a phobia with heights) We enjoyed the fact that ala Moana beach is 5 minutes right and the Hilton beach 2 minutes left of the front door. The street in front can be noisy early in the morning with delivery trucks etc; however we are early risers and you need to expect that when you are in the heart of a busy city. “ My wife, myself and our two daughters (5 and 1) stayed at the Illikai Marina for 6 days and it was pretty much close to perfection for what we required on our trip to Hawaii. The unit was spotless when we entered it and everything was labelled clearly so that we knew how to operate the electrics including the air conditioning etc. The location was perfect for us, as we were within walking distance to the beach (for our one year old, it was her first time ever touching sand), places to eat (including being above Red Lobster) and only a 10 minute walk to the ala Moana Shopping centre (which we basically visited everyday as it seems my wife has never seen shops before we went to Hawaii). We were never really nervous having a one year old in the apartment leaving us all to feel very comfortable in the unit. The cooking facilities came in very handy (looking for a way to make baby formula at 2:00am is not fun otherwise), and helped cut the cost of having to dine out three times a day everyday. The neighbours we saw were extremely friendly and the staff there were incredibly nice as well. I live in australia and basically booked the entire thing over the internet with a little help from Kathaleen when it came to tips on what to do and see in Hawaii. I have already recommended it to my extended family and do plan staying there again when we are lucky enough to make a return trip to Hawaii. ”

Before we went out for dinner, we enjoyed our first drink in our room, watching Sunset. No other restaurant could beat this view! Ala Moana in walking distance, and aBC mart is just across the street to buy heavy water bottles. Very convenient. Bus stops are also nearby. Good location. The room is a good size for 2 person and clean. Kitchen looked like new built. I was very glad when the kitchen cleaning stuff (e.g. soups) were also provided. I use holiday apartment often, but not many places provides cleaning stuff, and it was always stressful to buy cleaning stuff on our very first vacation day. It was not necessary this time. Internet worked fine too. However we were little bit annoyed by the traffic noise. Tourist trolleys passed by all the time!! Since the apartment located on 3rd floor, the noise was clear. We had such a wonderful view, but after about a half hour we were tired of listening of the traffic noise, and therefore we had to close the window, which was shame. The tourist buss went by from early in the morning until late at night. We were mostly out of the condo, so it was just acceptable level. If you think to stay in this room and spend most of the time, maybe you will be annoyed by the traffic noise. Another negative point was there was no baggage cloak where you can keep your baggage before/after check-in/out the room. We were lucky because our flight schedule. If your flight is later afternoon, you have to consider about your baggage after check-out time at 1100. Overall I still think the room was very valuable and really nice. We booked this room through aloha Condo, and this was second time we booked the condo through them. They were friendly and helpful, besides we knew the quality of the room from our previous trip, so we knew this stay would be pleasant. Yes it was! ”

Although the Marina location is considered the quiet end of Waikiki, the beaches (Waikiki & Ala Moana Beach) Ala Wai Marina, Friday night fireworks, all the great restaurants, attracts locals and tourists. Many of our guests really appreciate being just steps away from so many attractions. They don't have to rent a car because the airport shuttle drops you off across the street and you can walk everywhere or hop on a bus at the corner. We always offer an incredible value for a Waikiki vacation in an immaculate fully furnished one bedroom condo with outstanding ocean views. Regarding the luggage, the Ilikai Marina is not a hotel so there is not a Bell Hop to leave your luggage with. It is a well maintained apartment building with a Lobby and Security but no Bell Hop services. However, there are 2 options that we explained when you book the condo.
#1. If available, reserve an Early Check In or Late Check Out at the time of making your reservation online. It is an additional $50 and then you don't have to worry about waiting till 3pm or leaving at 11am
#2. If you didn't reserve an early check in, upon arrival at the airport, from your cell phone, call your local contact number that is provided in your instructions and ask if the condo is ready.
If the condo is cleared from housekeeping and cleared from our check out person, then we are always happy to help you get in early.
Just like you did with this reservation. You called from the airport and we got you in the condo early! ”

“ I did a lot of research before deciding on the Ilikai Marina and it is in my opinion a complete bargain. Kat Petron, the rental agent was wonderful and answered all questions and concerns expeditiously. She even honoured my special request at no additional charge. The condo was more spacious than I have imagined and I felt totally at home. The bed was super comfortable and the apartment was very very clean and tidy. What I like most about the condo, is of course the spectacular view. I could spend hours just sitting on the lanai taking in the view of the marina and Waikiki over a glass or red wine. In fact, the first thing I did every morning was to eat breakfast on the lanai. The sunrise and sunset were wonderful and I have never seen so many rainbows in my life! Being a corner apartment, I did not have to worry about noise from the neighbours. On some nights I slept with the windows totally opened and enjoyed the night breeze from the ocean. Truly an unforgettable experience. In fact, I could not believe how lucky I was to be in that location, with the lagoon and marina right in front of me. If I must come up with improvements for the condo, they would be minor. I would have liked more soap in the bathroom. One bar of soap for two people is a little insufficient. The wifi did not work although it was easily remedied with the Ethernet cable provided. The cable tv was a disappointment since the reception would be intermittent. Of course, no one goes to Hawaii to watch TV so that was a very minor inconvenience. In terms of noise, daily garbage pickup early in the morning is a nuisance, but I rather have the pickup service than to have to smell the stale garbage. Lovelorn couples making noise outside on the street in front of the marina and the noise of other lovers making passionate love in other units of the same building provide a nice distraction, and perhaps something to be expected - after all, we are in Hawaii!!! I can't wait to be back!!! ”

Nice Stay

“ We are from Southern California. Our purpose for visiting Oahu was to visit with relatives and eat at tasty local establishments. We were not interested in doing the typical tourist things. After three nights we were off to Maui where my wife was raised. Location: Excellent location for us. The Ilikai Marina is located at the beginning of Waikiki so you are not caught up in as much congestion as in the center of Waikiki. We were not interested in the beach or the T-shirt shops. Ala Moana Park is almost next door and we walked there every morning taking in the spectacular views of Waikiki and Diamond Head. It is also close to Ala Moana Mall for shopping and eating. Traffic is very congested during rush hour but this is the case all around Honolulu. Unit 394: Spotlessly clean and comfortable. A large sliding door separates the bedroom from the living room. It worked well for us as we had my sister-in-law from Maui with us. She slept on the sofa bed in the living room. There was a full kitchen, but we did not use it. The condo is on the third floor so it is not very high. The view though is nice of the marina through the large windows. There was some street noise but the street below is not very busy so it was not an issue. Parking was $17/day. The multi-level parking structure was easy to access (entrance is right next door to the Red Lobster restaurant on Hobron Ln). This is not a hotel so there are no hotel services. I don't remember seeing a washer or dryer in the unit. The nightly rate was very reasonable. The cleaning fee though was quite high. I recommend this unit. ”

Right Place / Right Price

“ Stayed for a week at the end of Jan.'10. The condo had all that we needed for light housekeeping and meal prep. Xcelnt location for the price. Away from the main Waikiki "strip" Had wiFi, cable and beach chairs etc. Clean, appliances all worked. Short walk to Hilton Village and its' shops, restaurants beach amenities. Good pizza at the bar downstairs, convenience store close by. You do not need a rental car if you stay here. City bus, shuttles and cab will take you anywhere you might want to go. Only two beefs that keep it from 5 star, pull out sofa bed is bad and absence of a front desk as you would find in a hotel for information and services. ”

I had problem connecting to the wireless and there wasn't help beyond the basic information about the SSID to help me in resolving the problem. Luckily we brought with us a cat5 cable. Nonetheless, we had 2 laptops and only one could be online at a time. ”

Condo was warm as we felt the air conditioning wasn't cool enough but found a fan and that kept us very comfortable. Tastefully decorated, close to all ammenities. We were very comfortable for the length of our stay and would recommend it as a nice suite in which to stay for a short or long vacation. Loved the sunsets. Nothing I can think of was left out. Beach chairs, umbrella, children's beach floats and toys. All the comforts of home. We had a wonderful stay. ”

If you are a night person and wills stay out late this will be fine, but we went to bed 8/9ish because we were still running on a 3 hr time difference, and the restaurant is loud. Especially weekend. There is an aBC Store, hotels, Hilton, restaurants, busline/trolley, and beach nearby.We used them all. Not too far away, but not too close to Waikiki beach area (where it's crowded). The next day, I found an electric fan in one of the closets and that cooled the room down. One day prior to check-out, I received a notice that the a/C will be serviced the following week. It's good they are servicing it but it didn't do me any good since I was already checking out. *Balcony is very narrow *I wish there was also a TV in the bedroom *Pre-paid $125 cleaning fee is quite steep. The unit had a booklet from the owners which contained all sorts of information. One of which are instructions prior to leaving the unit on the day of check-out. All garbage cans need to be emptied, dishes had to be washed, soiled linen should be gathered and placed in the bathroom, everything need to be in its original place as when you first walked-in, unit should be in basic-cleaning condition, otherwise, they'll deduct from security deposit. So I was stressed-out during my entire stay; I felt like I would not get my $250 security deposit back if I left the unit in a condition not meeting their expectation. In retrospect, if I stayed in a hotel, I wouldn't have to worry about $125 cleaning fee, $250 security deposit and cleaning the unit. If I didn't have to clean up prior to check-out, I would say it would be worth paying $125 cleaning fee. ”

Three days after our stay, we received an email from management to inform us that they will not be returning our deposit because according to them they found ink-stains on the beddings. To this day they have not emailed us the pics they say they have. They should have informed us immediately about it, after all, shouldn't they have cleaned it the day we left coz we know that somebody else is renting the place the day we checked out. What a way to dampen one's vacation! We did not take pics so for the next renters, take lots of pictures of the place before you leave - cover yourself! ”

It is always unfortunate when there is damage done to a vacation rental. It is unfortunate to have to replace otherwise perfectly serviceable condo inventory.
Neither Guest, Manager or Owner is ever happy about it. Yet the dozens of condos we manage must be kept up so every Guest starts with a clean and nicely furnished vacation rental. Sheets and towels are particularly important to us and checked thoroughly. We never want to leave stained sheets for the next guests. We understand that accidents happen and we request guests to let us know immediately if something gets damaged. We also have stated in our policies that if something is damaged when you arrive, call the local contact # immediately. We check the condos before your arrival to ensure that everything is in working order. There is a team effort to make sure every guest finds our condo clean, comfortable and well maintained. Our housekeeping company guarantees their service. They will return to clean anything that you are concerned with.
The bed sheets mentioned by this Guest received extra laundry efforts to determine if we could save them. 3 days is considered timely in determining all the factors before we capture the Guest's security deposit. We did not charge this Guest for the the extra time involved in processing a security deposit, extra laundry service, replacing and installing inventory. In this case we charged only for a new set of sheets.

We expect normal wear and tear. It is a very rare case when something can not be reused due to damage.
We prefer not to go through this uncomfortable process of notifying guests of damage done. Mahalo. ”

“ Our university graduation celebration trip to Hawaii was fantastic. Hawaii is a great place to visit but what made it special was the condo we stayed in. It has the best location of the Waikiki beach area. We ate breakfast overlooking the boats of the marina while watching the surfers brave the waves. Upon finishing eating we started our day by walking along the marina which ended at a beautiful manmade family swim area. Cross the sidewalk and we were at the main beach. We could watch the weekly fireworks, which were held at the swim area, from our balcony. There is ample parking in the parkade if you want to rent a car and if the bus is your prefered method of travel, the stops are right on the corner. The huge mall is such a close trip that we carried our groceries home. The main street shops are all within walking distance but are just the right distance to avoid all the noise. This condo is truly placed at the center of the greatest amount of activity. There is ample closet storage for 4 adults and the make up area outside the large bathroom was wonderful for that early morning traffic flow. It is nicely decorated and spacious for relaxing and kicking back. And what better way to kick back than to watch the big screen tv! But once I got used to it, it was great. The parking lot is connected to the apartment buidling, which was great for moving stuff in and out of the building. It is about a 15 minute walk to were all the action is, so not far, but perfect distance to not be right in it. The view! the view, this place has the most amazing view, whether it is watching the sunrise to sunsetting, it is a dream to look out at. Make sure you book a Friday stay as you can watch the fireworks from the balcony. Overall, we enjoyed it a lot and the host was very helpful with all inquiries. ”

In my opinion the Ilikai Marina represents the best combination due to being an apartment with full kitchen, having a perfect unobstructed ocean+marina view, conveniently located between the Hilton lagoon and the ala Moana shopping center. Then there is of course the significant price advantage over a hotel stay or even other comparable apartments. The apartment itself is fully equipped with everything you could require. My only slight misgiving would be the size of the lanai which although serves its purpose is a little small (room for two chairs and a small table only). The other significant plus is the owner Shahin who is very easy to deal with and provides first class support for any questions or issues you may have. I would certainly stay in condo 786 again. ”

Close to beach, park and shopping for walkers and right on the trolley transit route. Beautiful view of the ocean just over the tops of sailboat masts - not through them. The restaurant/bar below was not too loud to bother us and we actually enjoyed the sounds of jazz sax on a few nights while sipping a beverage on the lanai. Our only observation that could be changed is that the bathroom fan sounds a bit like a plane taking off- it is quite loud. The internet met all the needs of our 15 year old son and it was great to be able to make local calls from the unit. We had other family members come over for supper and the table expanded nicely - there are only six chairs so we had to improvise for the two others we needed. We were ther over New Years and it was great to be able to stay in the comfort of the condo and our own beverages to watch the fireworks from the lanai. The lanai is small only two people but there is plenty to see, susnsets. whales, surfers, planes, sailboats, birds, and of course there are always a few people to watch on the street below. We were glad that we chose the ocean view as the other view looking towards the mountains overlooked a parkade. the condo provided beach towels and we left a boogie board there,couldn't quite figure out the red beach chair. All in all yes we would stay there again. ”

“ We really appreciated the location. We enjoyed a harbour/sunset view without paying the price of a hotel on Waikiki beach. It was convenient/close to the great bus system on Oahu. It was also within easy walking distance to the ala Moana shopping mall and the Waikiki strip. The bed was king size and comfortable - always important! The unit was spacious and comfortable. The lanai was very tiny and not really good for spending any time on, but the view was great. The kitchen was very functional but the stove wasn't working when we were there so a hot plate was provided. We had planned on cooking but couldn't really so eating out was necessary and that is expensive. The hot plate was not great as it took a very long time to boil water for a cup of tea! I also called the cleaning service as one of the bedroom side lamps was broken. She said no problem, but never came to fix or replace it so we had to move a living room lamp to the bedroom for the week. The cleaning service fee is way too high. ”

Unfortunately the glass surface stove broke when another guest dropped a heavy object on it.

To my surprise, there was no similar stove on the island and I had to order one and wait for it to arrive. ;-(

However the only "downer" was that when we arrived there was a note stating that the previous people had broken the stove and it was not available for use. We had planned on cooking all of our meals during our stay to minimize our vacation costs but were unable to. That's one of the reasons we prefer condos over hotels; the mere fact that we can cook our own meals instead of going out each time for a meal. The hot plate that was left for our use just did not cut it. So unfortunately we ended up with quite a sizable increase in expenditures that we had not planned for. Great location in Waikiki, very close to shopping and entertainment. Beach is just steps away and an incredible 180 degree view from the patio. Make you walk 2 blocks from Illikai Hotel. Drivers not friendly at all. Greeters for them at airport were great, but changed as soon as got in shuttle. Wonderful tours through Discover Hawaii tours. Quiet there just like home and you can use Hilyon lagoon and beach to swim. It's only about 3 minute walk away. Enjoyed fireworks from Hilton on three nights from our balconey. Walked everywhere even to Walmart by ala Mona Mall only about 10 minutes. Abc stored very expensive worth the walk and they have bags in room to carry groceries back. Resteraunts everywhere with McDonalds only one block if u have children. Boards, swim equipment, chairs and beach equipment there to use. Very safe area and beautiful view if you like boats. Liked watching yachts come and go. Great price and great place to stay especially for older people. ”

The view from the 7th floor overlooks the quiet Ilikai Marina with beach views in all directions. The unit is clean and secure with friendly locals. Beaches are within walking distance. We rented bikes and rode to Waikiki beach everyday. There are restaurants and a small market nearby. The local Walmart has a grocery store. The owner was very easy to work with and everything was exactly as she said in her emails. She was very responsive and provided good advice. Here are a few suggestions: 1. The City Bus is very easy to use and tourist friendly. We used it to go to the Pearl Harbor Memorial and the airport. Pearl Harbor is free but tickets should be reserved in advance. We did not get a tour and didn't need one. Everything is self-explanatory. 2. Bicycle rentals were a lot of fun and made for easy access to the activities around the condo. 3. Ilikai Park & Beach is a great place to stand up paddle and snorkel. The protected beaches offer the beginner a great place to see turtles and fish. ”

Also if renting a car, the alamo/National office is across the road. The apartment has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Nice pressure in the shower. Much nicer than staying in a hotel as the kitchenette was handy for breakfast. Place was clean. (altho the aircon vents could do with a brushdown). We normally always stay self catering but in Honolulu, dont think it is really worth it (for 2 persons) as eating out is cheap compared to back home in australia and groceries are expensive ie. Aud$4 for 1.8L milk, $4.25 for 250g cheese about the same for butter , sugar also expensive...I guess because it is an island, most things have to be flown or shipped in. If you are a family of 3 or 4, then it could be worth it. There is a Red Lobster downstairs and a nice buffet if you want to try a variety of foods at the Hawaiin Prince 2 hotels down towards the ala mall. $45 - but worth it. It was also a nice walk home after eating out in Waikiki, along the beach and you also get a good view of the Friday fireworks at the Hilton. If I went again, would stay again. ”

“ When I was doing research for our Hawaiian vacation and read all the glowing reports about Ilikai Marina Condo 790, I thought they had to be phony...nothing could be that good...had to be friends of the owner. Well, I was wrong...I also have no connection whatsoever with the owners. The place is truly as advertised...comfortable, great location, very reasonably priced, beautiful view, clean, and everything was easy about the rental. We also appreciated that the entire building was clean and maintained (clean garage, walkways, etc.) All the amenities were provided (beach chairs/towels/kitchen stuff/linens/laundry facilities/etc.) If you rent a car, you park on the same level as the condo although a bus stops right in front of the building and the touristy pick up place is 3 minute walk away. You see the Friday night fireworks from the balcony (although it is very small, two people can sit, drink, and observe the happenings.) You are high enough to see over the marina and see the ocean and amazing sunsets. Can't think of a better stay for the two of us. ”

Was looking to book again. We come from Sydney australia and stayed in #790 Ilikai Marina in July-August 2011. We had a wonderful stay . The apartment is located close to the car-parking floor and easy access to street level. Safe & secure. I was with teenage daughter and self staying after a major hip replacement and am in my 60's . I managed to walk to ala Moana Centre daily and to the beach easily. As mentioned by others, being next door to Hilton is a real bonus as it is almost a small town in itself. You won't need to go far if all you want to do is soak up the atmosphere. The location could not be more perfect and the apartment has everything that you would need. Just buy food. Also supplied though is all needed condiments. The bed was superb, brand new when we stayed so comfy. Wonderful aircon. No street noise either and across the road from the bus. The view is stunning,,, The staff at aloha Condos made such a difference, always exceedingly helpful. Easy check in and out. Just leave your bags at the Ilikai next door if you are there for the day before departing.. Perfect. Will stay again. Xx :) ”

And although we didn't need it, there is a queen sofa bed for additional guests. No hastle check-in, management is just a phone call away if needed. We had one small issue when the power to the building went out on our first morning but, got through it o.k. There are several very nice restaurants below and around the corner, Chart House, Outback Steak House, Red Lobster, and be sure to drop into the Harbor Pub below, the help is in the true aloha spirit. “ I've been to Oahu 26 times and this was the first time not staying with relatives. #790 was like being home. 790 is a great unit, fully equipped, well located, and had a great view, and a very reasonable price. Condo or hotel? Condo is the way to go. Everything you need is here. Close to Waikiki but far enough to avoid the craziness. Resrevations and check in were a breeze. Gillian, Vlad, and Kat are qiuck to answer questions and guide. I stayed for 2 weeks and had a mid-stay house cleaning. Housekeeping did a great job and even folded clothes we had left out. The parking garage is attached and runs $20 a day. Pay ahead and save some hassle. $20 a day for parking in Waikiki is a steal. The unit is close to ala Moana Mall, nice beaches, and easy access to H1 and touristy locations. We love Oahu and will be reserving #790 again. Thanks to Gillian and Vlad for a great vacation. ”

Owner's emails helped us to locate the Marina and move in after a late-evening arrival. You will notice that 790 has a better combination door lock than other condos on the floor - it eliminates the hassle of a lockbox and separate key when you walk back to the condo with an armful of groceries from the nearby Foodland supermarket. We would happily return to 790 for another stay in the future. ”

A short walk to a bus was a nice option when we went to the aquarium and a 1-day car rental was close when we wanted to explore more of the island. There were a couple of very small cleanliness issues that need improvement such as replacing musty-smelling small kitchen rugs. For my stay, I simply put the rugs in the cleaning closet and left a note for the cleaning staff. Overall, the condo was a great fit for our family. ”

We called management, and a plumber arrived and fixed the problem right away. The manager even called back later to check on the situation, which we really appreciated. We were on the island for our sons' wedding, and most of our family members stayed in nice hotels. We were quite happy with our decision to stay in the condo. The rent was very reasonable and we were able to fix some of our meals there. Our daughter and her friend said that the sofa bed was not the most comfortable, but they managed to sleep ok. My husband and I were very comfortable in the king sized bed. We really enjoyed the Marina view and the location in general. ”

The kitchen could use a sharp knife or two for those of us who like to cook. Looked like they decided not to provide them because sommebody obviously used the formica counter as a cutting board. Beach towls and umbrella were a plus. Bathrooom remodel,impressive. Very quiet neighbors.Management needs to implement its well posted NO SMOKING policy to thr hired painters who worked all week when we were there and stunk up the parking garage which affected the hallways. ”

The main problem we had was the street noise,coming from the bar below and the garbage trucks very early in the mornings. The building is quite old and could use some updating.Seeing cockroaches when we came out of the stairwell on the main floor was rather gross, considering that is where the restaurants are located. We would likely stay there again, perhaps on a higher floor. ”

“ The Ilikai Marina is in fact a quiet location. There is only a single lane access road separating the building from the beautiful Marina. The garbage truck comes and goes in the morning. If one is super-sensitive to sound the easiest way to avoid the truck noise is to shut the lanai door in the living room for that period of time. The bedroom is completely quiet if you shut the sliding door separating it from the living room. As the building is concrete construction there is no noise transfer between the units.

For sleeping the sofa bed is not as comfortable as the King size Simmons Beautyrest bed in the bedroom. However as sofa beds go it is extremely comfortable as a day time sofa. Extra foam has been added to make it more comfortable for a good night's rest.

The Ilikai Marina is always kept to a high standard of cleanliness. The ground floor has attractive landscaping, and is completely open to the outside, which is one of its charms. The building is treated for insects on a regular basis. ”

bugs in the kitchen

“ At first sight the suite looked great, comfortable and clean. Then we found some small bugs racing around the kitchen counter the next day. A couple of days later we saw a cockroach on the kitchen wall. We told the manager of the building and she gave us some bug traps which did nothing to get rid of them. We decided we would just avoid the kitchen and not let these critters spoil our vacation. After we came home we sent photos which we had taken of those bugs to the person/company that we had corresponded with to secure the rental suite. No real apologies came back. My advise to to find out if they did anything to the bug problem since November of 2007. ”

“ The condo is now under new ownership and management.

In the summer of 2009, the condo was completely renovated with all new furniture, new flooring, a new kitchen and a new bathroom.

There has not been any evidence or reports of bugs this year (2009).

Parking is not a problem, we always found a spot in the free area nearby but if you don't, you can park in the attached garage for a fee. Waikiki beach area is walking distance, shops are walking distance. This is just a great little place to stay if you do not want to stay in a hotel or you want to save a little money. The unit is a bit outdated but clean, comfy and nothing was broken. You will find everything in the kitchen what you need for cooking. Bring beach towels though since those in the unit are small and not the best quality for water absorbtion. We highly recommend this unit to stay in, and we will deffinately return one day!!! ”

The wall mirrors seemed to amplify the space and doubled the splendor of the view.The furnishings were simple, elegant and comfortable. To be fair I should mention that the lanai is indeed very small - it would probably seat four medium sized pigeons quite comfortably -however it almost seems churlish to point this out given that our overall experience here was so positive. Great Waikiki marina view unit for the price!

The view is spectacular and we had a great spot to watch the neighboring Hilton Hawaiian's Friday night fireworks - and got a special treat to the July 4 ala Moana fireworks (it was like the show was just for us)! The kitchen was roomy and had all the essentials we needed. We would have liked having a dishwasher. Our children found the pull-out bed comfortable but linens a bit worn. The bathroom was fine but a little dirty & dated. We especially appreciated the beach toys, etc. These condos are very much lived in, so there were some pungent cooking smells coming from the hallway into the unit. This was mostly alleviated by opening the sliding glass door, however, I was bothered by the smell when it got too hot and we had to close the door to run the a/c. I also noticed a stale smell anytime we entered the unit after it had been closed up for a few hours. I will add that I do tend to have a very sensitive sense of smell and nobody else was bothered by this. The unit is very close to the beach - you can walk over the sky bridge on the 2nd floor to the Modern hotel, then take the walkway from the Ilikai next door to the lagoon and beach. The only other downside was the parking. We knew and expected to pay $20 per day for parking, however, on July 5, the garage ran a $10 for 10 hour "special,” which they charged us extra for, even though we never moved our car! They claimed this was their standard procedure that that they even charged condo residents the extra amount. This is a very unfriendly policy and one I think the rental owners should subsidize. I would like to add that the onsite caretaker for this unit was great to work with and was very responsive. All in all, it's a great unit for the price - you get a roomy place in downtown Waikiki with a spectacular view that won't break the bank. I would definitely consider staying here again. ”

After I found out this reasonable priced condo with living room, kitchen and view, I immediately booked this one and canceled the other. I was skeptical until the minute I stepped into the condo. Wow!!! What a beautiful sunset and ocean view! We couldn't believe our luck. We also enjoyed a magnificent firework show at the balcony right in front our eyes. Our applauding scream was echoed by the horns from boats and cars near and far at the end of the show. felt like celebrating New Year Eve. Btw, the firework show is from Hilton on every Friday night. One more tip, my husband found free parking space on the street. However, be very cautious. My brother couldn't find his car after he finished dinner at China Town. He paid his ransom, including taxi, fine and towing fee to get the car back. To make it short, My family had a wonderful time staying here. The suite is comfortable and of good size. I highly recommend this rental and will definitely come back again. ”

We could see a fair on the park point light up at night with the sun going down behind it. The one bedroom condo is well layed out but parts are dated (built in the 60's). The kitchen is fine with all the neccessary utensils. The livingroom couch is uncomfortable to sit on (never tried it as a pullout bed). Other chairs are fine. No golf channel on TV and took two days to figure out how to remove "Closed Captions". Living room needs a area rug as floor is hard and cold. Worst part of condo was the bathroom. It was dirty when we arrived and had to call cleaning service to clean tub/shower and give us some face cloths and a second hand towel. There was only 3 bath towels for our 6 day stay and no bath matt. The tub did not drain properly but found the plunger and it helped. There are no laundry facilities. The cost was reasonable until you added the $20/night parking (which we were told was $17/night) ”

The wood flooring is also brand new. Carpeting and rugs are a second choice in vacation rentals because hard flooring is much more sanitary.
992 has received continuous upgrades and replacements.
All units are cleaned by a professional housekeeping company after every check out. Two complete sets of towels( bath, hand, wash cloth and beach towels) are standard set up per Guest. A local contact phone number is provided for our Guests and we respond immediately to any Guest concerns. ”

The coffee pot quit on second day. But after calling the manager we had a new one within a day. Downside is the funky carpeting in the hallway. But that's probably a building ownership issue. Also the keyless entry was different. But once we got it we liked it. Also missed having a mini clothes washer and dryer in room. But the complex has several pay washers and dryers on the 8th floor. ”

After a long day of trekking around Oahu, sitting out on the private patio overlooking the marina was a great end to a day. The condo is centrally located at convenient distances from both the Ala Moana center and Waikiki, but still very quiet and peaceful in the evenings. The condo itself is very clean and well-kept with spacious and bright rooms. The wireless internet was very convenient for scouting out the day's activities. I didn't have a chance to take advantage of the surprisingly large kitchen, but it was a great plus to the condo's amenities. All in all, an amazing find and I would definitely would return a second time and recommend to friends. ”

No buildings blocking your view to get the ocean view we really wanted. The pictures on the website are very accurate and we really enjoyed staying here. Loved having the comfy King size bed and the bathroom is nicely updated and a good size with a nice big counter and new bath towels too! The only thing that would make this even better is some updating in the kitchen. It is very functional but could be really nice with some new things done to it. It was nice to be at this end of Waikiki to see "new" sights and had no idea we would be so close to ala Moana Mall. Also had great food and drinks in the pub on the bottom floor. We would definitely stay here again and love Hawaii!! ”

The condo had been re-painted since our visit in February 2012 and looked quite refreshed. Every year, a peek into the closets reveals additional items to use at the beach or take along on day trips around the island, like beach chairs, boogie boards, and a mini-ice chest. This condo is spotless, very attractively furnished, and the kitchen is well stocked with everything we have needed for meal preparations. The panoramic view out the windows and off the lanai is breath-taking. We were very happy and content during our 10 day stay in what has become our home-away-from-home on O'ahu. The location of the Ilikai Marina Condos perfectly suits our needs. For starters, it is an easy drive or taxi ride to and from the airport. We prefer the quieter location of this condo complex compared to the more centrally located Waikiki hotels. The nearby ala Moana Park and Duke Kahanamoku beaches are our favorites, wide and less crowded most of the time. It is walkable to central Waikiki and down to Kapi'olani Park, by Diamond Head. We have chosen to book with aloha Condos for 8 visits since 2007 and have found the company and the condos excellent. Chuck is always helpful during the booking process, and the local contact, Alice, has been very friendly and responsive whenever we have a question. “ It was our first time to Hawaii for our family of four. Having two boys under 5 years concerned me as most hotel rooms are tiny and by evening my active boys would go stir crazy. However, Condo 1182 had everything we needed during the day and the evening. The room was so spacious,warm and well equipped. I was most impressed with the cupboard filled sandtoys, boogie boards, sand mats and stroller. The boys thoroughly enjoyed watching videos after dinner every night as the dvd collection was great. My husband too enjoyed sitting on the balcony every morning, watching the boats and the divine ocean. I loved the easy walk to alamoana mall for shopping. We were impressed that there was no queue to get into the lift which is common with the bigger hotels in Waikiki that we visited. The laundry facilities were very handy. Additionally, it was helpfully to grab a taxi from straight across the street from the Modern Hotel. We were so happy to have stayed in Condo 1182. My 3 year old still asks when we will be returing to our 'Home' in Hawaii. ”

We cannot fault this place if you are willing to be away from the rush of waikiki and yet be within a walk of the main hub. The only problems we encountered were the parking which we were told had a monthly rate. This rate is not allowed any more and it will cost you $20 per day to park...the complex does not have access to the ilikai pool as we read in one review so the beaches are your only swimming choice. We certainly saw both these issues as minor compared to the trouble the owners and booking people went to to make sure we had a great time...we were absolutely delighted with the accommodation provided. ”

So much thought, the smallest details created something special. We were "In Hawaii" Special thanks to Chuck who was fantastic in pre planning/booking. Professional but friendly quick and helpful replies. That dining table that view, a quick check of the well equipped kitchen and this was where we would dine every night. Lots of Supermarkets for shopping as you tour the island. Walmart only a short drive away too. Excellent amount of storage space, quality towels. Books, cards, Games, videos, all beach equipment, towels, chairs, cooler, boards. The essential internet connection free . Bed as heaven. Wonderfully comfortable bed and quality bed linen. On site parking a huge benefit, necessary and reasonably priced by comparison. Malls, restaurants, Hilton Lagoon, Ala Moana beach all nearby What was much appreciated was the peace and quiet at night. The apartment was not available for our entire stay and so we moved for 3 days to a 4 star at Waikiki. How we missed 1182. A higher price for parking and one anonymous style room none of the conveniences. This was a once in a life time holiday but if ever we return to Honolulu there is not the slightest doubt 1182 would be the only place we would want to stay ”

“ Our party rented both 1182 and 1190 for the week. My wife and I stayed in 1182. Except for cockroaches, which I totally understand are hard to control in the tropics, it was great. The good parts: the location was fabulous, the view is wonderful, the wireless, the TV, the stereo system that utilized my iPhone, the bed, the shower - all were really good. We refrained from cooking there and we were very careful not to leave any food wrappers or anything else that might attract bugs, but still almost every time we turned on the lights in the kitchen, they were there. Unfortunately, it really affected our stay. The good news is that unit 1190 was bug free, so we cooked and ate our meals there with our other family members. The location is right between Waikiki Beach and ala Moana Beach, only 4 blocks from a major shopping center (Ala Moana Center), almost next door to the Hilton Hawaiian Village, which has great restaurants and walking areas and has a fabulous beach area. It's a perfect location to stay for both beach use as well as touring the island. ”

This year, we were delighted to discover boogie boards in the closet, which are perfect for the adjacent lagoon or the shallow swimming area at near-by ala Moana Park. We particularly like the location, which is in the quiet end of Waikiki, and an easy walk to shopping at ala Moana Center and a good variety of restaurants. The condo has a phenomenal, panoramic view out over the ala Wai Yacht Harbor and the ocean. The intimate lanai is a perfect spot from which to watch fiery sunsets and the Friday night fireworks. ”

Its close enough to the main street and buses etc but far enough away that you don't notice any noise (except maybe from the pub down below). The beaches, tourist shops, grocery stores (Foodland) are all within walking distances so everything is close by. The condo was very tastefully and comfortably furnished. As in other reports, everything is nicely updated with the exception of the kitchen. Previous guests hadn't done the greatest job on washing the glassware and pans before putting them in the cupboards and we did run into the usual tropical welcoming party (i.e. cockroaches) on a number of ocassions. Except for the last 2 items, overall, we would say that its a very nice condo and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. ”

Position and apartment amenities are great. The view is the best in Honolulu and one you would probably pay $500+ for at a hotel.Friday night fireworks are brilliant from the balcony whilst sipping a pina colada. When we had a problem with Wi Fi the owners and local agents were onto it straight away (with delivery of some wine as way of apology also).The apartment is exactly as in the photos. We will definitely be comong back to Condo 1182 ”

“ Ilikai Marina 1182 was first rate - from making reservations, communication about the condo, check-in, to the condo itself. The condo is in a great location - an easy walk to everything including Waikiki Beach and the mall where there is a Foodland. We asked the parking attendant about a monthly rate and were able to buy a 1/2 month pass (last 2 weeks of the month) - a significantly better rate than daily. Inside the condo there is everything that you need - a complete kitchen, all sorts of everyday items - things you wouldn't think of bringing but are at a loss if you didn't have them - it's very thoughtfully supplied. The bed & sofa bed were very comfortable. The bathroom was just as shown in the pictures - updated and clean (as is the rest of the condo). The laundry on the 8th floor was convenient - but you might want to get there earlier in the day. The layout and furniture of the condo was comfortable. We would definitely recommend Ilikai Marina 1182 to friends, family, and colleagues who are planning a trip to Oahu. Thank you for making our stay wonderful and relaxing - hassle-free. Thanks. ”

Our arrival went smoothly thanks to the excellent instructions we were given via email. The view from the balcony was beautiful, overlooked the marina with a great view of the ocean, and the Hilton lagoon. We really enjoyed the fireworks (at the Hilton lagoon) which are set off every Friday night and could watch them from the balcony. The unit was very clean, beautifully furnished with a tropical theme, and was well supplied with everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom. We let our friends have the bedroom and they said the bed was very comfortable. My wife and I slept on the sofa bed in the living room. It was relatively comfortable, considering no sofa bed is as good as a regular bed. The location was close to bus stops, shopping (the ala Moana Center was just a short walk away), and both the Waikiki beach and the ala Moana beach were just a very short walk away. Considering how expensive so many of the other accommodations are in the Waikiki area, we were thrilled with the location and the cost, as well as the quality of the condo. We would definitely consider staying there again if we go back to Honolulu. ”

We found the Ilikai Marina and it was perfect! We contacted Chuck through the aloha Condo website and he was great. Answered all my questions through email within a day. We reserved the place and Chuck sent the directions and instructions on parking and everything else we needed prior to the trip. We got the condo and it was absolutely wonderful. Very clean and everything was great. I was surprised it was stocked already with some things like paper towels and ice trays...little things like that made it a nice touch. The bed was super comfortable and everything was so relaxing and perfect, I couldn't have been more happier! I will be staying her again when I return to the island. Great price for a great place. Thank you Chuck for making this part of our honeymoon so easy and enjoyable! ”

“ The condo looks just like the photos advertised. It's very clean. Instructions for check-in were easy. The view off the balcony to the marina and surrounding beach area was beautiful. Watching surfers was very relaxing. Two complaints: First complaint I have is that the unit smelled like curry the entire stay. Every time you walked in the door, the smell hit you. We tried airing by opening the sliding glass door the entire time we were in the unit, but that didn't help. The other complaint is that the advertising for a thicker sofa mattress is of no value. It was still uncomfortable ”

Many thanks for your comments. Please note that our housecleaner has confirmed that there were no smells prior to your stay, or afterwards. They are very thorough with their cleaning, and they scour the entire kitchen, including stove and hood prior to each arrival. We believe the smell that you mentioned may have been the unfortunate, temporary bi-product of a neighboring cook at the time. We have not received similar complaints before. Regarding the sofa bed, we're sorry that it was uncomfortable for you. While we cannot expect a sofa bed to be as comfortable as our luxury pillow-top in the bedroom, we chose and purchased the finest sofa bed available on the island. It is far thicker and more comfortable than other less expensive offerings. Again, we have only received compliments from other renters - never a complaint.

“ In late February, we stayed a week in unit 1182 at the Ilikai Marina Condos. We enjoyed a gorgeous view over the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, Ala Moana Beach Park, and the Pacific Ocean. The condo is located on the quiet end of the Waikiki area, but within walking distance to the Ala Moana Shopping Center and the central part of Waikiki. There are also several lovely, sandy beaches to choose from, which are a few minutes walk away form the condo. Unit 1182 is comfortable and very well equipped and furnished. The kitchen contained everything we needed when we prepared meals, enjoying our own ocean-view dining area and lanai. There was a slight problem with a leaky pipe when we arrived, but it was taken care of very quickly by the Aloha Condos team. The condo building watchmen were also very helpful when we had questions. We had a great time while staying in 1182 and would definitely book this condo again for a future holiday. ”

You can't imagine how relaxing a vacation can be when you don't have to worry about household things going wrong. The location is excellent. Walking distance to Ala Moana shopping center and convenient route to bypass the heart of Waikiki. And don't miss the Friday night fireworks over at the lagoon. Also, very important, the internet worked! What a relief to be able to "google" our itinerary, finish up some overdue work, and complete a "last minute emergency" online exam. The only negative was the proximity to Yacht Harbor Towers (which was under renovation). It was rather noisy during the day, but, if you're out during the day, as you should be while on vacation, the construction was not a problem. We will definitely stay here again. Mahalo and Aloha! ”

I did read that someone had a problem with noise from the restaurant below, however although it was busy the whole time we were there we were never once disturbed by noise from the restaurant. Our 3-yo daughter loved the pull-out bed and we enjoyed being able to retreat to the bedroom. The bed was luxurious and fresh. We can't recall the last time we slept so well. Although there is nightlife along the marina, the unit is high up enough so it is quiet. The bathroom had plenty of towels and the housekeeping crew does a great job. There are even spare towels and a couple of folding chairs for the beach. There are laundry facilities on site. The kitchen has everything and there is enough space to make pretty good meals and enjoy them. The dishes and utensils were good quality and the appliances worked well. The unit has free wireless Internet and it was not hard to set up: there is a cheat sheet that has all of the log-in info. The building is located near the HHV lagoon (renovated in 2008) and it was a short walk to the lagoon and the adjoining beach. We were in the water every day and our 3-yo could walk each way. The Chart House, located off the lobby, has nice atmosphere and great food and service. There is a casual pizza place around the corner that has a friendly bar. There are several other dining options within a block of the building. If you are renting a car, there is convenient covered parking in the building. You can sign up for a monthly pass at the booth if you are staying more than 10 days (cheaper that way and no tickets to lose). We'll be back. What a find this was. ”

The beach chairs were heavy as lead and as soon as we got to the Hale Koa beach we rented chaise lounges, umbrella, ice bucket with water. And still had to lug the heavy chairs back to the car. The manager told us there had not been a pool access for two years. I believe part of what we paid was for access to a pool. Cooking smells permeated the hall. No, we would not stay in 1182 again or recommend it to anyone. It was overpriced for what we had. ”

“ My wife and I visit Oahu every year. We've stayed at a few other spots in Waikiki, as well a rental house in Kailua or with family. All spots were carefully researched and turned out great. What sets this condo apart is that it's perfectly located away from the busy streets of Waikiki, yet walking distance if you are that's where you want to go. Or you can walk the opposite direction towards ala Moana Mall and catch the twice daily happy hour Mai Tai Bar has to offer. Not to mention all of the shopping both places has to offer. Perfect area for runners around Magic Island and ala Moana Beach Park. The parking situation was good, $20 is the average rate throughout the city. But most nights we were able to find parking on Hobron Lane, Kaioo Drive, or ala Wai Blvd. Which is worth the walk to save some money. For those unlucky nights, we paid the $7/10 hour special parking lot price and ended up leaving a little early to travel the island. The condo was very clean and spacious. The Lanai is kind of small to have two people sit out there. So I ended up pushing the couch up to face outside and enjoy the sunset with my wife. And in the morning we could watch the surfers beyond the Marina. I would definitely recommend this condo to my friends and family. And will stay here again if it is available next year. Thank you! It is a fantastic condo - great value for money and would not hesitate to recommend to others. It is slightly dated but exceptionally clean and everything works perfectly! Excellent wi-fi and free local calls which came in very handy. Great kitchen - well stocked with all the appliances you would need for a comfortable stay - perfect for us with our baby. Only issues were that it would be nice to have a high-chair for our child and occasionally noisy during the day (from trucks beeping while reversing on the road) when we were having naps but this was not often and just specific to us as we were travelling with a little one. Most of the time we were out and about anyway. The condo is extremely spacious and well located. Cross the road and there is an aBC convenience store and Red Lobster is downstairs. Short drive or easy walk to ala Moana shopping centre and Waikiki Beach, Like others have said, best to go to Walmart or Costco for groceries as Foodland is quite expensive. Short walk to the Hilton Hawaiin Village and fireworks on Friday night is great from the balcony! We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiin Village for a few nights after our stay in the Condo to try the 'Resort' experience and wished we had stayed longer at Condo 1188 instead. “ We stayed here for our 19 day trip. It was great to have an apt. rather than a hotel. Location is great. Right near ala Moana Mall, the Hilton Hawaiian Village, ABC on the corner (of course). If you are here for two weeks + with a car, check into the part-monthly rate at the ProPark lot in the building. Very reasonable and the elevators go right from the lot to the floor. This unit had everything we needed for this family vacation. Kitchen is well stocked if you plan on cooking most of your meals like we did. Even has a rice cooker. Stop at Costco on your way from the airport or Walmart is only a mile away. There is a beach cooler and some ice packs so you can tote some drinks and /or lunch to the beach with you or on your day trips. At the time of our stay, the unit had a lot of beach toys, grass mat, 2 beach chairs to help out. We left some more grass mats and 5 boogie boards and an extra cooler to assist the next group. Beach towels are also provided in the unit. Both beds are comfortable. There is TV service, WiFi and an iPod dock/speaker system. Enjoy the Hilton fireworks right from your lanai with a Mai Tai. We got to do that three times. We would stay here again without hesitation. Shared lot of tourism tips in the guest book. We learned a lot from what others shared there so wanted to do the same. Ala moana shopping mall is walking distance from the condo(takes only 10 minutes) and there is Mc.Donalds and aBC store just across the street. You can sweam at the llikai hotel pool for free. First time in a Condo

“ I've been to Oahu many times and have stayed in hotels in Waikiki. Most of the hotels are nice, but the rooms lack any space. Since I have used aloha Condos for my stays on the Big Island, this time I stayed in one of their condos on Oahu. The Ilikai marina was built in 1968, but the building itself is kept fresh, though they could use new carpet in the hallway leading to the rooms. Room 1188 seems to have been updated recently and was a very nice place to stay. I did not use the kitchen to cook, but the appliances were also undated. It was so much more relaxing to be in this condo, as opposed to a hotel. There is at least 3 times the room as a regular hotel. I would probably have to pay 3 times as much for a hotel room with just as much space and ocean view. All in all it is a great value, you get an ocean view, friday fireworks in the Marina, and room to spread out in a condo that is fresh and clean. I can't wait for my next visit. One hit against the building, not the condo or owner. Make sure you tell the parking lot attendant that you want a residential pass before you pay the first time. They won't refund your money, even if you are asking them about it as they are putting the money in the register. ”

The condo was very clean. I paid for parking in the garage beneath it and it was very convenient if you wanted to go to places outside of Waikiki - highly recommended, much less crowded and beautiful beaches, hikes etc. The view over the harbor from the balcony was great. Nice ammenities with lots of storage, good shower pressure, nice kitchen, and good to have an ipod player too! Bed was very comfortable. Overall, a great experience and much more room and cheaper than a hotel room. There is no pool, gym etc at the condo, but who needs them when you can do everything outside! ”

The pictures truly represent condo and views from balcony. We liked that although it is located in the heart of Waikiki it is very quite. Aloha Condos was quick to respond on any queries. And if you like a quite beach and morning jogging it is only 15 minutes walk to ala Moana Park. Only few observations (and some of them not even related to the condo): 1. Smell in the hallways, probably because of old carpets or / and garbage room. 2. Better cleanliness of the apartment would be great. 3. As mentioned by one of the reviewer, recycling bins and explanations what can be recycled would be excellent (we don't want to keep destroying beautiful Oahu :)). Otherwise as I mentioned to Garry this was one of the best vacations in our lives. Definitely will recommend to our friends, and hope to return soon. Thanks Gary and Mary. ”

Top of the list was the 180 degree ocean view from Hilton lagoon to ala Moana park from the living room/balcony and the bedroom (watch their excellent video - it says it all). The place was very clean, bright with natural light, well furnished, had a large SubZero fridge which was perfect for freezing our local delights we always bring back to the mainland. It was very quiet being a residence/condo-tel building. The large parking garage directly below the condo was very convenient for going in and out. It was very well stocked on kitchen and dining stuff. It even had a nice rack of spices to cook with. The king bed was very firm, and the pull out sofa sleeper was very comfortable with a memory foam top - very nice addition. The web site was very well designed, and the follow up emails were very informative, clear and simple. My family was very happy with my "find" at this condo. We will definitely be back. Thank you very much to Gary and Mary appel who I have never met but feel like I know them through their well thought out traveler's haven and emails. Aloha and Mahalo. ”

The kitchen was the best equipped condo of any we have stayed in from Paris to Amsterdam and the building was very quiet. The attached parking garage (while a bit pricey at $17 per day) was very convenient and secure with unlimited in and out privileges. The owners were extremely easy to work with and very concerned that all of our needs were met. Any questions we had were answered promptly. We had a local contact along with the owners' email and phone numbers in case of any problems - of which there were none. Our only initial concern was locating the actual entrance to the building. Our GPS couldn't determine that while the street address is Ala Moana Blvd. the building and parking garage are accessed via Hobron Ln. between The Red Lobster and Charter House restaurants. Having laundry facilities on the 8th floor near the elevators was convenient. Just remember to bring plenty of quarters and your own soap & fabric softener since there are no change machines or product dispensers. The only other comment concerns the carpeting in the hallways - it is in need of a deep cleaning and some TLC. This, however, is an issue for the complex not this specific unit. We had a great stay and have already told many friends that we would highly recommend this unit as the perfect place to stay while enjoying Honolulu, Waikiki and the island of Oahu. ”

Also there was no electric kettle at the time and we had to boil up a pot of water for tea, microwave water just does not cut it. Our guests do sometimes stain the carpet and after several unsuccessful attempts to remove the stains by steam cleaning, we decided to replace the carpet with a simulated wood floor - it's more attractive, and easier to keep clean. This was completed in November of 2008.

Although we have had no other complaints about the towels, our towels were replaced early this year (2009) when we brought in a new local contact and cleaning crew.

Both we (the owners), and our local staff make guest satisfaction a high priority. Guests are provided with contact information and we do respond to all our guest's concerns. The recent positive responses from our other guests confirm that we are achieving this priority.

Ala Moana Shopping Centre is close by, which made self-catering easy, and there's a little supermarket just on the corner if you don't fancy a walk. Waikiki is also handy in the opposite direction but if you'd rather avoid it, you can. The apartment is also within range of a pay as you go wireless network, which was useful for me. I wish I could have stayed longer, and would happily go back again. Loved the constant view of the sky and ocean, and the marina below. The only draw back was the high cleaning fee. However, it meant that the apartment was in very good condition. ”

I lived across the street at the Tradewinds and knew people in the condos that is how I knew to contact Aloha My family is raving about their vacation. The condo was perfect except the coffee maker which did not work. I have reported this but no response from the owner or rental agency. The pullout sleeper was not comfortable but they took turns so no one had to sleep on it every night and all survived The condo is close to everything and a gorgeous view. No complaints that I know of and will rent again We will rent again ”

The condo complex is nice and quiet, we never heard anyone else, and staying at a condo like this is so great because you don't get woken up by the housekeepers vacuuming and making noise. This condo is supplied with lots of things.....hairdryer (yeh!), vacuum, extra sheets, books on Oahu, a magnified mirror in the bathroom drawer. Tips: You'll need $2 in quarters for each wash and dry. Bring your own detergent for laundry from home in a zip-loc bag....you'll save money and waste by not having to buy some there! A few cons: - The sofa bed is very uncomfortable.....it is impossible to sleep on due to bowing in the middle.....don't count on this as a sleeping option. - The cost of parking at the condo is ridiculous, $17/day. The only other option is parking out near the marina, but it is metered and has time limits. Overall, though, we were very happy with the condo, and would recommend. Wish we could own one just like it there! ”

Fantastic view, great help in time of need

“ We had gone online in search of a vacation rental for a week. All of the reviews we had seen were very positive, and our stay only reinforced that. It was a little confusing to find the building, but once there, using the lockbox to get in was extremely simple. The view is incredible, and is definitely one of the selling points. The sunset over the water, combined with a glass of wine on the lanai is pure relaxation. The rest of the apartment is certainly very clean and well furnished, and we cooked several meals in the kitchen without problems. On the second day of our vacation, our car was broken into (with our belonging in the trunk, with nothing visible inside the car) while we were on the beach at the north shore, and we lost our wallets and cell phones. The manager was just incredibly helpful at that stressful time, and even offered to lend us some money in the interim. She was very supportive, and helped in so many ways to get our vacation back on track. That was certainly above and beyond anything we had expected. We will undoubtably stay at the condo the next time we return--the location, the furnishings, the view, and the hospitality are hard to beat. ”

We selected on line from quite a few options and were v. pleased with our choice: excellent view, comfortable yet high style design interior. Our sensation that the place might not be as spacious as it appeared on screen was unfounded. Good well managed space layout. Huge, maybe a little too soft, but v comfy bed. Though the bedroom did feel a bit claustrofobic when the sliding door was closed. Any downsides? Yes, maybe - the a/c was not v. efficient and it was a bit un-nerving trying to fathom out how to get into the place when you 1st arrive & the so called security guard was zero help. Think that was the biggest negative - no help on the ground when you get there. And when you rang the number of the person who was meant to BE THERE FOR YOU, if needed, she was at best very distant and you felt you shouldn't have bothered her. Otherwise, really pleased with our choice & the stay. And this was one exceptionally well equipped Condo. Enjoyed it enormously. ”

Two young kids stayed on the pullout couch with the ability to completely section off the front living room from the bedroom with the large sliding door. The condo stayed cool all week with the air conditioning unit, we were able to make breakfast every morning in the full kitchen and watch nightly sunsets from the tiny lanai (just throw open the sliding door to enhance the size). Parking access was easy in the adjoining structure ($20/night or $7 for 11 hours) or parking along the marina for $1/hr. Plenty of options. There were many restaurant options close by within a 5 min. walk or 15-20 min walk to Waikiki. The Hilton lagoon and ocean area was convenient for those who like to exercise in the morning with a brisk walk or jog or sunbathe in the afternoon. The condo itself is fully stocked with every piece of kitchen equipment that you can imagine, bathroom towels, beach towels, and beach equipment. We inherited several beach items from visitors we met along the way and left them behind for others to enjoy. We thought we might encounter a couple of snafus as the building had a timed water shutoff in the middle of one day and a pest control spray on another, but we were out sightseeing/beach going for much of the week with no problem. Perhaps a better working vacuum to pick up bits of food and sand would have made clean up easier for this neat freak Mom. Overall, a great condo for any type of vacationer! I chose this location for the views and my 2 college age daughters. One swam in the ocean every morning the other went running on the beach every day. You have 2 beaches to choose from ala Moana (5 min walk) and Waikiki (5 minute walk). We enjoyed the fireworks at the Hilton Hawaiian Village next door on Friday night. Best view is from the Yacht Club, short walk through the middle of the marina. Parking garage was $20.-/day, there was no weekly discount. There is street parking beside the marina, parking meter $1.-/hr. Red Lobster is on the first floor no reservation accepted. Go early or after 8pm as the lines are long. The aBC store is across the street, very well stocked for short term items, ie, milk. We grocery shopped at Safeway in Hawaii Kai and Longs Drugstore. The International Market Place is a fun place to browse/shop. We also went to the Flea Market at aloha Stadium. Saturday mornings there is a Farmers Market outside Sears at ala Moana Mall. Great place for local grown food. People are friendly and helpful. ”

It also doesn't take too long to walk into the central part of Waikiki, with its many shops and attractions. There is also excellent bus service from the bus stop near the condo. Another treat is the Hilton Hawaiian Village Friday night fireworks show. The condo's lanai provides an excellent view of the display, or one can walk a short distance to the beach in front of the hotel to watch from the water's edge. ”

And the best ice cream on the planet is not far either, Hawaii's very own Lappert's Ice Cream and also great coffee. I went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay and used the snorkle, mask and flippers that were a perfect fit.Don't forget they are always closed on Tuesdays. The price I paid was a terrific price considering the amenities and location. There is so much to do, and never enough time. Do yourself a favor and stay here...at least a week or two as well. I am saving up for another visit and I won't have to worry about where to stay anymore!!! Everything was so perfect, even the fantastically great water pressure in the shower. “ Communication with the owner was great - no surprises about anything, including costs, directions, getting into the condo, local contacts if needed, etc. Hubby and I just retired, but we are active, and you can literally walk to most everything, and most of the tour companies will pick you up at adjacent hotels. The view is wonderful (harbor, ocean, Hilton's Friday fireworks and lagoon, Waikiki beach, surfers, distant cruise ships, sunsets). Shopping is within a few minutes walk, and 2 local and 2 major chain restaurants are literally in your building. At far end of the crazy part of Waikiki, you can join the party, but sleep in quiet. Ala Moana shopping center (10 min. walk) has every shop you can think of, and Sam's and Walmart are near there as well. We found costs to be about the same as our shops in Dallas, TX - including food. Walk to the grocery store, load up and taxi back. Walk down past Ft. DeRussy (stop at he excellent army museum there) and get into the glitter stores - Gucci, Prada, Coach, etc. Kitchen has Everythinng you need for meal prep, but I took must-have spices for my TexMex addiction. Tv is HD and ch. 24 has the TV guide as well as good Hawaiin music for backgroud when you're chillin'. Recommended: go early in your stay for an Island tour (we used Gray line), find what you want to go back to, then rent a car for a short time (rental companies on the corner by you); Makani Catamaran for a nice on-the-water experience; Hole-in-the-wall food tour is a must - you'll thank me! Note: Go two hotels over to the Illikai Hotel and get your car rental from the lobby concierge there (Sanitago, if possible). It'll save you money. They will ask you to do a time share thing, but just say 'no' if you're not interested. I only caution you that this is not a luxury condo, but still very nice, and for just me and my husband it was spacious. For more people than that it might be tight. I was very pleased with whole experience! ”

The only problem was that there was no large pot for cooking, e.g. spaghetti, etc. We bought a stainless steel pot and left it for the next guests. We also bought 2 new pillows as the others were pretty worn and left them. We also left for the next guest 2 snorkels and masks. The housekeepers were very nice and did a good job. It would be helpful to have some decent steak knives, the ones there are pretty poor quality, but other than that, all was good. ”

Don't be shocked like we were when you look at the kitchen floor. It looks like it's dirty but it's not. Just alot of wear and tear. It really should be replaced. Thank you for the salt & pepper, spices, coffee, sugar, and all the etc. It made shopping alot easier, and what a nice suprise to find the shopping cart. It really came in handy. Everything was fresh and clean. The flat screen tv is a plus. It was easy to do laundry no one else was there. There is a little noise from the street if the door is open during the night. We just left it closed until around 1 or 2 in the morning and was fine. It is alot quieter during the weekdays. The fireworks were great. I've never been that close. This is a very safe place. We saw the guard everytime we went in and out. The view is to die for. We watched our cruise ship come in the morning before we left. A cooler, beach towels and chairs were available. We would stay here agian only longer due to the cleaning fee. ”

“ As my stay was brief, because I relocated to the Hawaii Price right next store. There was no night security lock on the door, there is a dead bolt that is keyed from the outside, no other security style locks. The first night there were escapes convicts on the island that had not been caught. The first night there were people outside my door attempting to get into the condo mistakingly thinking this was there condo. There was only a bolt that intended as a lock for the sliding door. I called the name that was listed in the manual that was inside the condo, twice with no response (actually it was hand written into the manual), I was later informed when emailing the owner that there was a name of a person called Kat that was on my initial paperwork (this was not the ER contact in the manual that stays in the condo). There was no attempt to make any of this right, just the standard cut and paste of "here is our policy", as I incurred all of the charges for the safer location for the remainder of my stay. The appearrance of the condo was not as much of a concern as the security risk, it is still on the "aged" worn side, the carpet is stained in areas, the pillows on the chairs in the dining area are stained, the floor in the kitchen is cut up in areas. everything else is standard (bed with big flowered average spread, couch that is average, tv's and basic appliances, and several items for an extended stay-beach items and such) If you would feel safe with just a regular lock, only use this as a place to sleep and you were going to pay the reduced rate that I found (99/night), then this condo would be a consideration. My reguirements for a business stay are not excessive, this condo did not reach even the basic need of safety for a stay by myself. ”

“ We are sorry you had such a bad experience in our condo. What a terrible way to spend a night, imagining these escaped convicts, all heading for the Ilikai Marina! However, the security and comfort of our guests is our primary concern. We had never had any previous complaints about our locks. Since your visit we have installed a modern keyless locking system and have done away with lockbox. We have also installed an additional bolt lock on the inside. The keyless locking system was planned, but the extra inside security bolt is in your honor! The security at the Ilikai Marina is well maintained and on June 26, the day of your arrival, a security guard was on duty. In the Welcome Manual we give the number of the security office, and the call is forwarded to the cell phone of the guard on duty in case he is on his rounds. If you had called the number of security in the welcome book, they would have been able re-assure you as well as check the security video screens. The resident managers number is also in the Welcome Book.

We had recently changed our local contact and we apologize for not having updated the information in the Welcome Book. However we did give you the name and number of our new local assistant in our correspondence. It is now also on the condo door.


We bought the condo 18 months ago. At that time we bought a top of the line king-size Simmons Beautyrest bed and mattress, so it would be considered above average. We bought the queen-size sofa bed at The HomeWorld, the nicest furniture store in Honolulu, along with dining room table, chairs etc. Several of our guests mentioned in the posted reviews how comfortable the bed was and how beautifully furnished the condo was. We stayed in the condo 3 weeks prior to your visit and unfortunately we did not notice any stains on the dining room chairs, as we certainly would have done something about it. The appliances are all new and were installed when we bought the condo. The photos and the video on the alohacondos.com site speak for themselves, however, since taken last year, we have added beautiful artwork in the living room and the bedroom and a flat screen TV in the bedroom.

We did not replace the carpet or the kitchen flooring yet, but have always planned to replace the existing flooring in the entire condo with porcelain tile this year in the fall, which is being implemented.

It is a pity you waited 10 days to contact us about your unfortunate experience. You did have our e-mail and telephone number. ”

The condo itself is quiet, there is evening and weekend security for the building. The kitchen floor is very slippery with socks on, so be careful making the corner there! The shower door was a little soap scummy, but otherwise the condo was very clean. I travelled with my 16 month old, I wasn't too crazy about the electrical cords (lamp cord, and an extension cord) They are big temptations for a child. There are lots of pots and pans and other utensils but they are well used. All in all I would stay in condo 1286 again. And I would recommed it. ”

When travelling with kids it can be stressfull if you are jammed into a small space but that was not the case with condo 1286. We had plenty of room for us and our two children. The pull out Queen bed was more than enough for them and the privacy sliding door was useful when we wanted to stay up later. The view is incredible! We got there on a Friday so we saw the Friday night fireworks that the Hilton puts on right from our room/lani. Kids loved it! The condo was stocked with everything we needed for the beach along with a cooler which came in handy everyday! There is a laundry service available on the 8th floor which was easy to use and handy to have available espcially when you are swimming in salt water all day everyday. The location was ok, a little far from the main Waikiki strip but there is a bus that you can catch out front and if you don't mind walking then you can get there in about 20 mins along the beach walkway. As for groceries, you would be best going to the Foodland at the ala Moana shopping centre and taking a taxi back if you don't have car. It will only cost you about 7 dollars. You can walk to the mall it's only a 5 mins walk and well worth it! I could go on and on but I won't, If you are looking at renting 1286 I would tell you do it you won't regret it. Beach chairs would have been a nice touch--we had those available in previous units as well as other little amenities like boogie boards, etc. Owners were friendly and provided quick responses to emails. From the building it is a short walk to the beaches in front of the neighboring Hilton and to Waikiki, in one direction. There was good shopping close by. (At the Ala Moana Market Place, we enjoyed Mauana Loa Poi Bowl in the food court. Be sure to season the poi with the Lomi Lomi Salmon. The Island Vantage coffee stand in the court made one of the best espressos I've ever had. Our only problem was with WiFi, because I brought our old, less sensitive, laptop with us. Truly fully equipped. The view was spectacular, the bed extremely comfy. Linens and towels were plentiful and of high quality. It is only a short stroll to the Hilton Lagoon and beach. There is an ABC store steps away and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. The only negative was the poor attitude of the attendants working in the parking garage. We will definitely stay here again and would recommend this condo highly to anyone else wanting a quiet, beautiful, perfect stay. Gillian and Vlad are awesome hosts. A special thanks also to Mary for making sure everything was so clean and tidy. ”

Fantastic. Everything we needed was super close by too. Car rental, restaurants, pub, groceries and ala Moana shopping mall - with the most amazing food fair ever! I have a picture of every sunset from the patio. The patiois the only downside to this lovely room. Its very small. My husband and I sat cross legged with no room to spare. But still beautiful none the less. The bed is very comfortable & has a flat screen tv although the big window looking out at the sea was all we needed. I loved the bathtub it had jets which were wonderful after a full day of activities. The location is awesome. Close to everything. If you opt out of renting a car the bus lines are very close. We didn't miss not having a car. We had the pleasure of meeting Natalie who takes care of the place. She was so extremely nice and welcoming. Gave us tons of info on best happy hours and places to eat. She was even able to be contacted for simple questions which is nice if your unfamiliar of the area. There are numerous bars and resturants all within walking distance. Chart House located in the same building is amazing for drinks and steak. The room is very quiet, clean and roomy. The welcome basket of goodies was the perfect touch. I would highly recommend this place to everyone looking for a wonderful condo to stay. ”

“ A beautiful view, a welcome basket of local edibles and a location in Waikiki that made walking to the zoo or ala Moana Center a breeze. Towels were big and thick. Kitchen was remodeled and cabinets looked like Koa wood. Beautiful! In order to hit the excellent star, more practical amenities would have been nice. There was no overhead lighting in the hallway and the vanity lighting wasn't adequate. In the bathroom, as an alternative to a canvas hamper and extra towel racks, they might consider more counter space/toiletry storage and add decorative hooks for hanging towels instead. Long term, is the pocket door really necessary? Making that a wall would add considerable space to the bathroom for storage needs. Likewise, even though the kitchen looked stellar, it wasn't very functional as it had very limited counter space. With no dishwasher, and after washing dishes, there was even less counter space. The floating island seemed disjointed. Service was first rate however, as they were willing and able to accomodate our early arrival of luggage. We left our packed luggage in the closets and enjoyed our day! We would most certainly return here and recommend this unit to friends! ”

We found the location of the condo to be amazing...close to absolutely everything; restaurants of all kinds from McDonalds and Red Lobster to Kobe's. The condo itself was great too, with a big comfortable bed and fully stocked kitchen. Making the reservation is a snap. We can honestly say that everything is provided for a perfect stay. The tropical Koa wood cabinets and furniture and the stainless steel appliance and granite counter tops are very pleasing to the eye. The jetted bathtub is very soothing after a long day of walking! The bed is very comfortable. All we need to do is bring food and drink and enjoy the wonderful condo and the great view. We were treated to perfect weather for our last 8 night stay, and even early morning rainbows. On Friday nights we really enjoyed the Hilton's fireworks ”

Good location for convention center but furnishings and amenitie

We could not find any good restaurants in the area, however, just chains or over-priced beachfront dives. The condos furnishings are OK in the bedroom, however, the living room sofa is broken-down and uncomfortable to sit on for TV watching. There are very limited kitchen utensils. Probably the biggest negative is lack of adequate lighting in the entire condo. We could not read in bed because the lighting is so poor. We had to turn on every light in the kitchen, living room, and dining room to have more than a dim view in the condo at night. Finally, we have never stayed in a condo where the owner did not provide a single bar of soap. The first morning, I had to walk to the aBC on the corner to buy a bar of soap for our morning showers! We were generally disappointed in this condo. ”

“ Deb, it sounds like you werent very happy and were sorry you couldnt find a good restaurant in the Waikiki area. Our guests are provided with bar soap and liquid hand soap with extra supplies in the cabinet under the lavatory. I regret you didnt give us that opportunity as we would have been happy to respond to your requests and improve the quality of your stay.

When we walked in the room it was late at night and the room looked wonderful when we opened the door and the welcome basket was very unexpected but a lovely touch. I have to say the room is very tastefully decorated and has every amenity you could ever want including a jetted tub which my wife made immediate use of. The furniture is of the highest quality and the bed was extremely confortable. When we opened the curtains the next morning the view took our breath away and just added the cherry on top of the cake. It was a treat to sit and watch the boats come and go in the marina and to watch the numerous dragon boats come and go as they practiced out in the ocean. We were thrilled with this condo and would definitely rent it again and recommend it to everyone we meet. It made our honeymoon complete and thank you Chuck for letting us enjoy it. ”

This property is a 5 minute walk from major shopping and the heart of Waikiki beach and night life but out of the traffic and noise. The photos on the website seem too good to be true but believe it! Price compare it to hotels with "mountain view" and this is ocean front. You can't get any closer. Full kitchen, great towels, full a/V in bedroom and common area with free hot spot and very nicely furnished. Lots of extras in the closet for kids and adults at the beach. Parking isn't cheap ($17/day) but there were always spaces and it is half of the going rate at hotels. $8 airport shuttle from the Ilikai concierge. If I owned this condo, I wouldn't change a thing. I will ask for 1294 every time I come to Oahu. Mahalo ”

We opted not to rent a car on Oahu, and took the bus everywhere we wanted to go. The bus stop was right at the corner across from the aBC Store. It may have taken a bit longer to get places, but was interesting and a lot less expensive. We only had 3 days, but went to the USS arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri Memorial at Pearl Harbor, went to Diamond Head, and went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, and spent time on Wakiki beach. Ilikai Marina Condo 1294 was a perfect location, very well maintained and had all the amenities we needed! And we loved the welcoming gift basket! ”

“ We had a wonderful 8 day stay at the Illikai marina. The location was perfect for a family with young children. The condo was clean and very nicely decorated. We stay in alot of vacation condos and location alone will keep us coming back to the illikai marina. Unfortunately there are some caveats. 1. Even though we asked the aloha condos staff about the deck railings looking like they ended awfully far from the building, they assured us the spacing was no more then the railing spacing.. that was incorrect. *IF* you had the condo slider open all the way blocking off 2 inches, that was true. If you closed the slider part way then the spacing was 8 inches! Not only that, but there is a small ledge, so I would never recommend leaving the slider open with children under 8-10. I cant comprehend how it could have ever met building codes. Now, saying that, we would still stay there again because we love the location and the a/c works great. :) But we would have brought a travel gate so that we could feel safe opening the sliding door. 2. The kitchen didnt have a stitch of tupperware -none of the perks that you usually find in a rental... sugar, or left over foil that the last folks left bring those from home. 3. Towels!! We (3) were provided with 1 bath towel and 1 beach towel for an 8 day stay. I dont know about you, but I dont use the same towel every day for over a week.. especially when vacationing in a beach location that is very warm. We had to wash the towels, which was a first at any rental we have ever stayed in. The washer and dryers at the illikai ate $5 in quarters. There is no change machine. ABC store will only give 3.00 in quarters with purchase. It was a big pain. Dont use the stacked w/d & bring plenty of quarters. It cost 2.25 each load to wash and an addtl 2.25 to dry. The washer only fit 6 of the large towels and a few hand towels. Again, we would stay there again and feel it was a value, but wish we would have known the above. ”

Otherwise there was a Red Lobster down stairs, pub and other places within walking distance. Great location which was a 10 min walk to Waikiki beach so you weren't in the hussle and bussle. It also was 10min walk to Ala Mona shopping centre which had fantastic stores. There was cheap parking for $6US for 12hrs which is great if you had a car for a few days. We parked at the condo's which was $17US per day and worked out better for us as we didn't have to keep moving the car after 12hrs. The only downside is that there was construction work happening at the Ilikai Hotel across the road so could be a bit noisy in the day, however if your in Hawaii you wouldn't really be staying in your room! Would definately stay here again and recommend it to family and friends. ”

My husband was attending a conference at the Hilton Hawaiian Village just two hotels down from us- less than a 10 minute walk. From the Ilikai Marina I could walk with our 14 month old to the beach, to the lagoon, to the Ala Moana Mall (where there's also a full grocery store), or take a longer walk down into the "heart" of Waikiki. It was also a convenient starting point for driving to other parts of the island, like the North Shore and to Hanauma Bay. The condo itself had everything we needed and we loved having a full kitchen. The view from the condo is fantastic and on our last morning we were treated to a gorgeous full rainbow just outside. The bed was comfy, the air conditioning worked great, it was easy to park and easy to make all the arrangements with Chuck, the property manager. We rented baby equipment like a high chair and pack-n-play from a local company called www.babytravelmadeeasy.com. They provided a great service. The only drawback to the condo is there is no dishwasher. Since we did a lot of cooking ourselves, this was one convenience that would have been nice to have. Also one of the standing lamps in the living room had a burnt out bulb and the toilet tank seemed to have a leak so the water would run more than it needed to. We used the washer and dryer in the building twice during our stay and that was really nice to have nearby. We would definitely stay here again! ”

“ The condo was picked up and sort of clean. There were food scraps in the kitchen sink, the refrigerator was not wiped down, the kitchen had been swept, but the dustpan was not used to complete the task, the windows toward the extraordinary view were not clean, the glass top tables and furniture were dusty, there were visible dust clusters under the bed, and there was an empty candy wrapper on the bed. I called the owner within minutes to let him know the condition. I also called the individual in charge of cleaning. She did come a few hours later, and cleaned the sink and floor. I paid a $120.00 cleaning fee, and asked that the fee be reduced or waived. The owner did not call back either that evening or during the following 3 days. ”

Beautiful view of Waikiki

“ When my family and I arrived at the Ilikai Marina, we were surprised at how close it was to so many sites. We were within walking distance of Waikiki Beach, Ala Moana Mall and Park. We had a great view of the marina and a beautiful sunset every night. The room had enough room for the four of us and amenities like a kitchenette stocked with dishes and appliances, a bathtub with a jacuzzi, two TV's with cable, and a sofa bed for the kids. It was a great central location to all the places we wanted to see. We had a blast. The only thing I could not figure out was how to turn on the showerhead, but the jacuzzi made up for that. After a long day of sightseeing, the warm jets of water soothed my sore muscles and helped me relax on my vacation. ”

“ Condo was not cleaned from previous occupant and had to call for service. Also, garage charged for 4, 24hr. periods when we checked in after 11am on the 1st and had to be out by 11am on the 4th. The sign posted at the gate clearly states per 24hr period. Would also have liked a lanai large enough to enjoy sitting on and a pool! Location was great and condo itself was otherwise comfortable, MUCH better than unit 394 which rents for same rate. Also liked the convenient check-in procedures. ”

“ It is a wonderful place to stay. Just 5 minutes of walk you can get to beach. This room is oceanfront and it has a beautiful view of the ocean with lots of boats. Fireworks occasionally can be seen at night from the small balcony and they are spectacular. The hotel is quiet and you can have good sleep. The kitchen has a good set of cooking utensils and you can save money cooking yourself. We have a very good time with our then-4-year-old son there. Would like to go back there sometime soon :) ”
