This was our third time staying at Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquete Club Condo 1-301. Everything about the condo and location is perfect. Plenty of linens, pillows, towels, beach gear, kitchen "stuff", etc. Perfect distance from town, restaurants, grocery stores and beaches. Only least liked thing about the condo - is that it is on the third floor and there is no elevator. (Now, that is really not much to complain about.) We are already talking about when we will be returning. Mahalo.

Excellent location in the complex. Might be difficult for those who have stair issues. Great location on the coast. Wish we could have spent more time just hanging out in the condo. It was beautiful and listening to the waves was relaxing. Close to so many restaurants and sights.

My wife and I stayed at the Surf and Racquest Club 1-301 in January and had a wonderful time. You can't beat the view! The wrap around lanai feels private and lets you admire the Pacific up and down the coastline. We were lucky enough to observe some whales and a group of dolphins while we were there. Since this unit is on the top floor, the ceilings are vaulted and really gives the unit a nice feeling. We toured a 2nd floor unit that was for sale which didn't have vaulted ceilings and it makes a difference. We would stay here again.

We, my husband, dad, and I, had a wonderful stay in this awesome 3rd floor, corner unit condo. It was spacious and very well appointed (including snorkel gear--masks & fins, surf shoes, boogie boards, tennis rackets, picnic cooler, beach towels), and a drop-dead view of the rugged shoreline and beautiful teal/blue ocean. From reserving the condo to the tasty fruit and sweet welcome basket to our tearful check out our last day, everything was seamless and enjoyable. Great location, beautiful view, quiet--except for the pounding ocean and tropical birds. Great snorkeling just a short walk north and a small shopping center with market, drug store, post office, and restaurants just up the hill to the south.

Hesitant to give it a good review, only because I don't want it to be all booked up next time we head to the big island. It was one of the best condo's we have stayed in so far. The huge wrap around outdoor space is spectacular. The views are great and the pictures don't really do it justice. Fully stocked kitchen with everything you could need. The grounds are very well taken care of. Only thing I would change would be to add a little heat to the pool....burrrr.

Starting with the reservation process - it was easy and clear. I got regular updates and the condo owner/manager was responsive to my email inquiries. The check-in / check-out process was also easy! Upon arrival - the condo was clean and met my expectations! The pictures on the web site reflects the actual condo set-up and decor. The condo is spacious, with vaulted ceilings and nice breeze through out. The master bedroom is nice - the bed is comfortable and with the lanai doors open - the ocean waves put you to sleep. Slight down side to the master bedroom is the sliding doors separate the living room and the master bedroom - not very much privacy. The condo owner/manager has equipped the condo with all kinds of things that were nice surprises - snorkel gear, beach towels, beach chairs, plenty of towels, washer/dryer with laundry detergent, pots and pans and dishes and utensils, cooking spices and condiments, DVD player, books, and games. The lanai was my favorite - the condo is a corner unit so the lanai wrapped around. It was big enough to hold a lounge chair, high-top table and stools and another table and chairs. It was the perfect place to sit and watch the water. We even spotted a whale from the lanai! The condo was more than we expected. It was a lovely stay!

This was our first visit to the Big Island. After reading the reviews, we selected Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club, 1-301. Although we didn't need a 2-bedroom unit, we chose it because of its top floor, private setting and wrap-around deck -- and we're glad we did! We've stayed in condos in several other locations previously. This was the most thoughtfully furnished one we have enjoyed. We chose to have leisurely breakfasts and dinners on the deck. The kitchen had everything we needed and more, down to the smallest details. There was everything (and more!) than we could have wanted for enjoying the beaches -- picnic coolers, and even beach chairs and an umbrella. Besides being well furnished, the unit and everything in it was spotlessly clean. We immediately felt comfortable there. The condo's location was excellent -- right on the water; away from the noise of more densely populated areas and traffic, but with convenient access to snorkeling, shopping, and major roads. The gas barbeques in the adjacent outdoor kitchen were convenient, like new, and clean. The pool is large; the grounds attractive and well-kept. The only thing we would have liked was air-conditioning, since the weather was hot and humid. But excellent cross-ventilation and ample fans kept the breezes flowing. We definitely recommend this as a great place to stay.

We eloped on the Big Island and this was an ideal spot to have as a "home base" for our romantic week long retreat! Very private and quiet. The end unit has spectacular views and wonderful breezes - you can actually FEEL the surf hit the lava beach right outside - it's that close! The sunsets were all spectacular, and the little birds in the coconut tree right off the lanai were a nice treat! I felt that a small closet safe for valuables would be a nice addition so you wouldn't have to feel the need to close windows to lock up and stop the excellent cross breezes. Shopping for food and beverages was nearby and convenient, and the condo was really well equipped with all kitchen and day excursion items we needed, including some great guide books, maps, coolers and snorkel gear. The stereo was key, as there is great island radio to listen to (although having one with an iPod port would be a nice addition). We encountered one or two creepy crawlies, but that's the tropics for 'ya. Very minimal, and the geckos are charming! We had an excellent, relaxing stay, and I would definitely recommend it, especially for a peaceful, private getaway for a couple.

The place we stayed at was right overlooking the ocean which was great. The only problem was since the windows faced south the place got very hot and with no air conditioning, at times, it was uncomfortable. We did a fair amount of snorkeling at the beach just to the west of us. It is great for snorkeling but not good at all for swimming and there was very little beach. It was nice to have all the snorkel equipment in the place plus beach chairs. We made use of the bbq just about every night. The unit needs to look at the tv and dvd player in the second bedroom since they were not working. We had a great trip to see the lava flowing into the ocean. We stopped at the Black Sands Beach and got to see turtles resting right on the beach. Our next trip might be in the winter so that we could see the whales in the ocean. The ocean did not have any animal activity to it at all - not even birds.

We had a fabulous time in Unit 1-301. The setting and views are absolutely stunning. This has to be the best unit in the whole complex; its wraparound lanai is perfect for watching the orange ball of sun drop into the ocean every night. And there's complete privacy; no other units have a direct view of the lanai. We ate nearly every meal there -- it was better than the best restaurant in Kailua. That's partly because of the well-appointed kitchen, which encouraged us to "eat in." The rest of the appointments were thoughtful and complete, from the nice bedding and furniture to such details as tennis rackets (even tennis balls), a large selection of books and DVDs, snorkeling equipment, coolers and umbrellas for beach picnics. There was even a radio that would magically play Do Ho music at sunset to enhance the "true" Hawaii experience -- a glass of wine and some Macadamia nuts on the lanai as the ocean surf crashed near our feet. It was all there - and we didn't want to leave. But we did leave by day to explore nearly every corner of the Big Island during our week there. Thank you to Jacque for making available such a fine place from which to enjoy the wonders of Hawaii.

This condo was simply perfect for us! One bedroom overlooked the ocean and the other overlooked the gardens. It was perfectly sized for 4 guests. The view was amazing, the property owner was very easy to deal with, and it was extremely close to great restaurants and the highway. The wraparound deck gives you the most magnificent view of the ocean. I really loved the amenities - the kitchen was useful for cooking and keeping snacks, snorkel gear was provided, laundry is in the unit, and we ate everyday on the large deck. Something to keep in mind when booking this specific unit: there is no a/c but a great breeze off the ocean as well as many ceiling and stand fans, there is a partition separating the master bedroom from the living room which made it noisy when our friends were up earlier then we were, and there is no beach access from the condo area. Outside the room, a pool and tennis courts are available. I highly recommend staying here and would stay again in a heartbeat.

We had a wonderful 10 days in this beautiful unit. We have stayed at the Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club many times and this is one of our favorites. We were traveling with our young sons and found the condo to be convenient to the pool, tennis courts, and even the tide pools. The kitchen was well stocked with the basics. We also used the snorkeling masks, beach towels, beach chairs, and boogie boards that were all conveniently available in the unit. Thanks for a great vacation!

We stayed in this unit during Ironman - one of our party was competing. He found the location great as it was out of town a bit and therefore a quieter location to rest pre-race. The unit itself is a great size and has everything you could need or want and a beautiful view of the ocean. The pool and tennis courts are both very nice and we made good use of them. You really need a car to get into town from here, but apart from that it was a really nice place to spend a few days and soak up the Ironman atmosphere!

Looking around it looks like this may be the best of the condos in the resort - possibly even in Kona? I bet they get a lot of inquiries from guests asking if the owner wants to sell it. It was tough to leave for home. It was as close to perfect a vacation as we could have hoped for. By far the best part is sitting on the lanai watching the whales (and they were very active when we were there) and the boats - away from all the tourists downtown. We spent a day at Volcano National Park and a day trip to Waimea & Hilo and had a suitcase full of coffee, macadamia nuts, and t-shirts to show for it but one week is all too short a time to spend out here. I guess it eases the pain of leaving knowing that we can come back - so I'm tempted to leave a negative review so we can have the place all to ourselves for the next time.

My wife and I stayed in unit 1301 for six nights at the end of August 2008. We stayed at Kanaloa just to the south on our last visit 10 years ago, but if we visit again, I would chose Kona Surf 1301 again. Unit 1301 is a 3rd floor end unit with 2 bedrooms and two bathrooms. The condo has a great view of sunsets and is very close to the water. The lanai is huge, and wraps around the living room. We hardly used the living room, but used the lanai for most meals. The only downside with the west-facing units like 1301 is that in late afternoon, until the sun starts to set, these condos get direct sun to the interior of the unit and become quite warm (no A/C in this unit). Once the sun sets, it cools off and is very comfortable. The furnishings in this condo are first rate. The rental web site - alohacondos.com - accurately depicts the interior of the unit. Everything is well maintained. There is also a full sized stacked washer/dryer in the master bath. You will find almost everything you would have at home in this unit. Lots of kitchenware, drink coasters, cable TV (never turned it on!), multiple radios and CD players, high speed wireless Internet connection, books, and other stuff we never had a chance to look at. Lots of towels. Extra bed linens. Etc. Also stuff for the beach, including a good selection of fins, masks and snorkels. Straw mats. Bogie boards. Beach chairs. A couple of coolers. Etc. There are also 3 gas grills in a pavilion about 100 feet from the condo, and we made good use of these for grilling fish. Side note: Our best excursion was a kayak trip to go snorkeling at the Captain Cook Monument. Some web sites say there are no kayak rentals available at the Kealakekua wharf, but there are! We rented a double kayak ($50) from Derrick, who lives on the corner across from the wharf parking lot. He does everything from finding you a parking spot to helping you in and out of the kayak. An easy paddle and highly recommended. — P.D. August 2009
Beautiful location with a corner lanai right on the water. Spacious and stocked for every household need or outdoor activity. Great value with lots of amenities. Highly recommend it to all my family and friends. Only regret- we could not stay longer. — Gail Sutton-Allen May 2009

I must run now - it's time for the daily Pina Colada on the lanai to watch the sunset. — D S February 2009
I was just getting ready to compose an e-mail thanking you for the opportunity to stay in your wonderful place. I even did some research of other condo complexes in the vicinity and could not find anything that we liked as well as your place. We had a great time there. Got to swim with the spinner dolphins at Capt. Cook and the sea turtles up the the street. Even though it was 88 degrees and no breeze, the condo was fine due to the ceiling fans. We dined on the deck each evening watching the outriggers go by. We loved the swimming pool and barbecue also. The amount of beach things and kitchen supplies was a nice surprise. Do you have a monthly rate? We are considering canceling our Panama cruise (2nd time though) at this time next year and come and stay at your place again. Kona area certainly beats Maui. — T H October 2008
"Beautiful" Based on reviews listed here, we decided to give the condo a try. We stayed in unit 1301 on the third floor –2B,2Bath, Kitchen, Living room. One bedroom overlooked the ocean and the other overlooked the gardens. It was perfectly sized for 4 guests. The view was amazing, the property owner was very easy to deal with, and it was extremely close to great restaurants and the highway. I really loved the amenities - the kitchen was useful for cooking and keeping snacks, snorkel gear was provided, laundry is in the unit, and we ate everyday on the large deck. I highly recommend staying here. — S L September 2008
My family and I, five total stayed at condo # 1301 on July 6 through 15, 2007. Jacque the owner is very nice and e-mail response as well as phone response from her is quick. When we arrived they were doing some construction maintenance work to the walkways in front of the condo and to the lanai areas of the condos directly beneath us, so our first impression was kind of mixed. All that quickly changed as we entered and found a beautifully decorated condo, clean and with a fantastic view from our third floor lanai. We were pleasantly surprised to find a nice gift basket greeting that was left for us on the dining room table. There is no air conditioning but with the ceiling fans on and the three sliding glass doors open it was cool enough. We loved the sound of the ocean waters as they crashed on the lava rock shore which was about 25-30 feet away from the condo lanai. The sunsets were absolutely amazing! The location of the condo is excellent, you can take a short walk or drive to one of the best snorkeling and turtle beaches on the island, Kahaluu Beach. We saw the turtles feeding along the rocky part of the beach on every visit, they were beautiful. It is only a short drive to Kailua-Kona, but at peak traffic times it could take a bit longer than normal to get there from the condo, much more traffic on the Island than the previous years when we visited the Big Island. Try breakfast at the Sweet Ohana Grill-75-5711 Kuakini Highway it is a pink building that is also a candy shop, right down the street is The Big Island Grill which has good hawaiian style food also. Another nice place to visit and shop is Alii Gardens marketplace and the International marketplace which are all within a short driving distance from the condo. We Loved staying at this condo and would recommend it to everyone. It is in a very good location and is very clean and roomy, and has all of the comforts of home, but with a beautiful view and sounds of the ocean to top it off. I almost forgot one of the best highlights of our visit which was the free Ukulele lessons and Hula/Tahitian show at the Keauhou Shopping Center (about a minute away from the condo, show is every Friday) the show was better than the luau show that we paid to see! That's it I guess, needless to say we had a great time on the Big Island and this condo is Highly Recommended for sure!! Can't wait to return to the Big Island and of course we will stay in this condo again!.......................... — The Toms July 2007
This was my family's, my husband, myself, and two teenage children, second trip to Kona and the second time we stayed at the Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club Resort. We were originally very disappointed because we could not get the townhouse we rented 2 years prior but once we found condo 1301 all that went away. It was the most spacious and clean accommodations ever!!!! It had every amenity we could ask for and more. The owner Jacque and her assistant Bruce are just fantastic. We were right next to he ocean, 3 floors up so we never had to worry about putting up the Lanai door. It was 7 days of bliss. We had a great view of the fireworks on the 4th of July. It was my 60 year old Mother's first trip to Hawaii and she did not want to leave. Mornings were filled with orange juice and Dolphins. This was a great vacation and we highly recommend this rental. — T G June 2007
