We were greeted at the gate with a friendly aloha from the parking attendant, something that would be repeated every time we entered or left the compound. The attendants were also very helpful arranging temporary parking for our friends when they came over for dinner.
Check in was smooth, although we did have to wait about ten minutes to speak to the clerk. This seemed, to us, a reasonable delay, especially considering the efficient and friendly service we received.
The suite itself is beautiful. The kitchen is great (although take it easy on the little dishwasher... it doesn't do a great job when it is packed full) and we had friends over for dinner twice. They were also impressed with the suite.
The unit is really well designed in that it is hard floor from the door to the bathroom, so you can come back from the beach and head straight in to the shower. Even when you rinse off down at the beach, Kaanapali sand is sticky and gets everywhere! You can play in the surf a short walk from the door, or stroll down the beach and snorkel at Black Rock... we saw a huge sea turtle down there one day that was just sort of happy to hang with the tourists in the shallows.
We never had to wait for the elevator, and certainly appreciated the washer/dryer on our floor for doing laundry. We were usually able to park underground, near the elevators, but if we came home after 10:00pm or so, we would often have to park outside. There was always a friendly note to let us know of this so we didn't waste time searching for a space that wasn't there.
My only "downside"... and the reason I give this four stars for location, is the air Conditioning units from Whaler's Village Shopping Centre, next door, are right beneath the balcony and do make it a less pleasant place to sit and read a book. If you're plugged in to an MP3 player, then crank the volume and you'll never notice it, but we kept the balcony doors closed for almost our entire stay.

We have stayed at the Whaler on a number of occasions, but this was our best stay to date. The accomodations were excellent, everything was updated, tastefully decorated, very comfortable. Going forward we will always check the availability of unit 863 first.

From our initial correspondences with Aloha Condos from the time we left....we felt that they were there to make our stay wonderful. (Thank you Kristen and Mary) The Condo was nicely appointed, in a great, convenient location. We WILL be returning and Condo 863 is the condo we will call our temporary home when we do. We found ourselves envious of the owner! Well done....Aloha!

Everything about the place is amazing. We are definitely planning on staying here during our next trip to Maui. You wont find a better spot for the price with all the amenities right next door in Whalers Village. Some of the best views of the ocean and mountains. The only thing about this place is its right next to the AC units for Whalers Village. If your sitting on the balcony you can hear them humming away, but not that big of a deal.

We found Whaler 863 to be as advertised - clean, very nicely updated all the way around. It suited the needs of my husband & I as we traveled to Maui for the first time. Location was great - we spent many evenings on the lanai, which has a nice view of the beach/ocean, and also of Whaler's Village, which was nice because in the evenings we could enjoy the live music playing at Hula Grill from the comfort of our lanai. Close to Lahaina, which was also convenient for shopping/groceries/etc. The rental company was also very accomodating and helpful.
A beautiful condo in a great location!

Newly remodeled in excellent condition! Very comfortable bed, new appliances. Nice view of the beach from the lanai. Enjoyed the boardwalk and the outdoor grills. The parking garage was a little dark and messy, but that does not reflect on the condo. I would stay here again!

The Whaler is the best place to stay in Maui, this is the third time we have been to the Whaler and have stayed in 3 different units. The location is perfect close to what is going on yet quiet when you want it to be. We like the idea of having a kitchen where we would have breakfast and snacks and afternoon drinks but then go out for a nice dinner. Our unit was clean and neat but older but I understand there are new owners and they are doing some things with the unit. Even as is I would go back and stay in this unit in a heartbeat, the view is fantastic and it was so nice to have some very nice restaurants within walking distance, Maui Grill was our favorite at Whaler Village.

WOULD GO BACK TOMOROW IF WE COULD. THIS WAS OUR FIRST TIME TO HAWAII AND WE LOVED THE CONDO 661. HAD A GREAT VIEW OF THE OCEAN. THE ONLY THING WE DIDNT LIKE IS THAT THERE IS NO NIGHT LIFE THERE, WE ARE USED TO GOING OUT AT NIGHT AND DOING DIFFERENT THINGS. THEY SEEM TO ROLL UP THE BARS OR AMYTHING AROUND 8P.M...WHICH WE WERE TIRED AT NIGHT ANYHOW SO IT WAS BETTER THAT WE WENT TO BED. BUT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A VERY NICE PLACE TO GO THIS WILL BE IT. CANT WAIT TO GO BACK

Unit 661 exceeded our expectations. Our favorite past time was watching the sun set from the units balcony. What a great view. The only draw back was not being told that the unit was for sale and getting a call from a realtor that she needed to get into the unit for several hours. Not something I want to deal with when I'm on vacation.
Awesome experience!

Location was perfect, had absolutely no problems with noise or anything else at the condo or at Whaler's Village next door.
The condo was clean, kitchen was perfect for making our breakfast and lunch to save some money.
This was the perfect place for our honeymoon, and I would absolutely consider #661 if we get a chance to go back someday.

It was our first trip to Maui & our second trip back to Hawaii. This time we were planning to stay for two weeks, so we wanted to find a condo. We looked at several places and found condo 661 was available during the time we planned to visit at a great price and with many ammenities.
Let me just say how wonderful this condo was. There was plenty of space and it was right on the beach. The view from the lani was amazing and quite often we found ourselves dining out there breakfast, lunch and dinner while watching the boats sail by and listening to the music from the nearby restaurants.
There were many convenient things about this condo as well as the hotel, which is located right next to great shopping and dining. It is also very near Lahaina, so groceries and other attactions are less than 10 minutes away.
The room was very nicely decorated and equipped with everything we needed. The TV/VCR was great, because in the evenings we were still able to catch some of our favorite shows. The onsite laundry facility we great, so we could have fresh clothing any time we wanted. The bed was very comfortable. There was even snorkle equipment and a beach umbrella.
The outdoor bbq was also nice to use. The grocery in Lahaina was great & helped off set some of the cost of eating out - we tried to buy as many locally grown or produced items, expecially the fruits and seafood. Make sure you get a saver card - it helps on the costs.
That's another thing we were really pleased with at the Whaler and with condo 661. The price was very affordable. We really appreciated the value which allowed us to enjoy the place that much more.
If (when) we come back to Maui, we will definately try to stay here again!
Key Tips:
Buy from the grocery using the store saver card - its free and saves you money
Some of the best food out, is the local seafood - be sure and try the restaurants in Whaler's village - right next to the Whaler
Check out the Winery & Laveder Fields

This was our 3rd stay in 661 at The Whaler. The location of both The Whaler and Condo 661 is excellent. We are always in awe of the view from the lanai of this condo. The condo is decorated beautifully and we feel right at home the minute we walk in the door. Everything we need is right there; we can eat there and enjoy the view and we can also walk to the many great places to eat. Lahaina is just a short drive from The Whaler and there are many great shops and restaurants there.
Whalers' Village is next door to The Whaler with many great shops. There is a walkway that runs along the beach in front of the hotels & restaurants; it is a great place to just take a walk and admire the scenery in the daytime and at night. The staff and guests are very friendly and this year we probably spent more time just relaxing there. It was great. There is a new catamaran that comes to Kaanapali Beach called the Hula Girl. It's a must for snorkeling or a cocktail/dinner cruise. The Whaler has re-done the pool and courtyard since we were there last year and they did a beautiful job. Needless to say, we hated to leave. Although it's a long trip from PA, it is worth every minute and we are very anxious to go back.
Best vacation!

My boyfriend and I had never been to Maui before and had decided on a condo over a hotel for one big reason -the kitcken! we knew we could go grocery shopping and keep snacks there and cook some meals at the condo. It would up being a fantastic idea! When we got back to Chicago after the vacation, someone asked us if there was anything we would change and we both looked at each other and said, "Nope!" and I truly believe that had a lot to do with The Whaler. When I first decided on the Whaler, I started searching the internet for a good deal and finally came across alohocondominiums.com and came across unit 661. it was a STEAL! honestly, per night, it was cheaper than any hotel I would have stayed at in Chicago. I read the other reviews, as I figured something had to be wrong with the place for it to be that cheap. But then i watched the video tour of the condo and thought "this isn't a dump at all! what's the catch?!" I then realized that the owner was being recession friendly, and really just wants people to still come to Maui and enjoy themselves. And we did! :) Sue (the owner) would send us weekly emails giving us her restaurant recommendations and all the information we would need for the condo. The view is great and we actually wound up eating in our condo most of the nights, just because we loved sitting on the balcony and watching the sunset and the stars. The pool wound up being our big hangout during the day. There are people who stay at the Whaler every year so they are always up for meeting new people and treat you like part of their family. Because it's smaller than the large neighboring hotels, it feels like you are part of a community for that week, and it was great. One night we even had an ice cream social in the lobby of The Whaler. Some days we walked down the beach and snuck into other pools to see what they had to offer, and always came back to the Whaler thinking "it's good to be home". I hope that I can come back to unit 661 next summeer!

The room was fantastic; everything from the extra towels & toiletries, to the sheet on the dresser covering Susan's favorite restaurant, to the view of the ocean was excellent. The condo itself was very spacious ? it did not have the cramped feel of a typical studio; it was actually bigger than some 1-br condos we have seen in our travels. Also the unit is ridiculously cheap for the amenities it had ? it even had free hi-speed internet via Ethernet; we have only ever had that at +4-star resorts, and usually for a fee.
The condo complex is definitely dated and in need of the upgrades that are happening now; however it did not feel as sterile as some of the other hotels we have stayed at in the past. The service staff was friendly and helpful in general ? as long as you are not too pushy. You are also not affected by the construction as it is on the other side of the building from our balcony, which overlooks Whalers Village and the beach. All in all a great experience, and we highly recommend RM 661 at the Whaler Resort.

Me and my husband stayed here for 5 nights during our honeymoon in 2006. It was fantastic! Very clean and modern. Love the canopy bed. And the transaction was easy. It was great to stay in a condo and to have access to a kitchen. We got some groceries and made breakfast and some quick dinners here. We stayed the other 9 nights we were in Hawaii in hotels and it can get very pricey eating out all the time. It was also very quiet, the beach was beautiful and calm. I would definitely recommend staying here and would come back again.

This was our 5th stay at the Whaler, first time in unit 661. The condo was clean and nicely decorated in Hawaiian style furnishings and accessories. The views from the lani are amazing and the whale watching is spectacular. We took the whale watching trip from the beach in front and it was an incredible experience, hightly reccommended. The Whaler charges for check-in and parking are somewhat of a turn-off, especially during the construction as we had to park in the overflow lot all of the time and walk up to the building. Would not hesitate to rent this unit again and hope to return again soon and see the finished landscaping.
