Farmers Market
The Hanalei Farmer's Market includes craft vendors in addition to the regular farmers, many of which are organic farmers. Popular place to look for Organic Produce, so even though about 50%-75% of the farmers have Organic Produce - much of the people attending are looking for that exclusively. If you are looking for organic lettuce, be there early and be careful once the rope goes down. Supply is sometimes slim and people sometimes run to the farmers who have it.
Occasional fish & baked goods are included by the regular produce vendors. Orchids in pots as well as cut flowers available here too. Nice locations, small yet good selection. Farmers area is roped off until opening, allowing farmers to set up and buy from each other.
The public is allowed open access to the craft vendors and access to the produce once market starts. Please observe the entrance/exit signs for parking in the field. The field is often used for soccer or seasonal craft fairs, which share the space with the farmers markets parking. Farmers & vendors need approval and pay a weekly fee, space is limited.
- Time: 9:30am - 11:30am
- Day: Saturdays
- Where: Hanalei Neighborhood Center next to the soccer field. Parking on the soccer field
- Town: Hanalei

Sightseeing
If you have ever dreamed of seeing a double-tiered waterfall, then you are about to bring that dream to life at gorgeous Wailua Falls. Right after mile marker 1 on Highway 56 there will be a road on your left, Maalo Road (Highway 583), accompanied by a sign pointing you in the direction of the falls. Take the short drive up this road which will end at a parking lot overlooking the falls. If you’re lucky, the sun will be at the right angle, and you will get a beautiful rainbow extending out from the base of the falls in the mist.
Wailua Falls is approximately 85 feet high (not 170+ feet as some books have reported) and drops into a pool over 30 feet deep. Don not even think of diving off this waterfall as the leap can be, and has been proven, fatal. Ancient Hawaiians once learned as much when proving their manhood (or foolishness, take your pick).
If you have to get to the bottom of the falls (which, mind you, the county advises against) then there are two trails that make the journey quite a bit safer than jumping off. You will notice the first trail by the guard rail at the end of the parking lot. This is the steeper and often muddier trail. We advise against using this trail at all costs. If you head a little over a quarter mile back down the road however you will find a easier, less steep, trail. It is longer than the first trail, but it is a lot easier to hike, though please keep in mind again that the county advises against the hike.
The signs erected at each trail are a testament to this fact.
In our opinion, the falls are best seen safely from above at the overlook. Please do not throw rocks and other items into the pool below (which likely will be partially out of view). County warning or not, some people DO hike to the bottom of the falls and likely will not like being showered with anything but water.
If you visit during a time of especially high precipitation on the island, the falls can actually turn into a single giant and raging falls. During high flow the falls often also has a third tier flow. We believe the falls is most beautiful when it has a moderate flow. When seen from the air (image directly above), it is fascinating to see what the topography around the falls looks like.

Hiking
The Kalalau (Napali Coast) Trail Hike is a spectacular extreme day hike, and one of the best in the Hawaiian Islands. The island of Kauai is known for its heavy rainfall, panoramic views, tropical forest and rugged coastline. This 11-mile Kalalau Trail (one-way) follows the Na Pali Coast with its incredible views of five lush valleys, waterfalls, and ancient Hawaiian ruins.
Most day hikers go from the trailhead at Kee Beach to Hanakapiai Beach (2 miles) and then another 2 miles inland to Hanakapiai Falls, and return. Or, backpackers stay on the coast for 11 miles and camp at the Kalalau beach. Not many have done the complete round trip in one day.
What makes this hike different, in addition to the natural beauty, is the trail which can be wet and tricky. While you will not have a problem with high altitude, tree roots, slippery rocks, and the repetitive up 400 feet and down 400 feet, make for a challenging hike.

Summer days allow for beginning surf instruction, paddleboarding, swimming and calm waters. Winter time attracts professional and seasoned sufers from around the world as waves rise to 20 feet. Visit the Hanalei Pier and surrounding beach which was featured in the classic movie "South Pacific". Stroll around the quaint town of Hanalei with its boutiques and interesting local folks. Golf
The Prince Golf Course at Princeville is one of the most spectacular Golf Courses in the world.
Like the rest of Princeville at Hanalei, the Prince Golf Course enjoys magnificent views from 300 feet above the Pacific Ocean.
It’s not the scenery that earned the Prince Course Golf Digests rating as "Hawaii's No. 1 Golf Course,” it is the incredible design Robert Trent Jones, Jr. created to turn rolling terrain into a links-style Golf Course that will challenge you like no other.
This 18-hole, par-72 Golf Course climbs slopes and careens down hills as a demanding layout that calls for your best-planned shots.
Five different tees at each hole allow you to customize the game to meet your own skill level. Make it your goal to track your progress by choosing a more difficult tee when you return to the Prince Golf Course!
Named for Prince Albert, son of Hawaii's King Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, Golf at the Prince Golf Course is truly a royal experience.
Reward yourself with a visit to one of "America's Top 100 Golf Courses," a masterpiece of design in a majestic setting.
