Unit 2002 was perfect for our needs and the staff were very responsive to our minimum requests. We spent many hours relaxing on the lanai, watching and listening to the waves crashing over the rocks no more than 50 feet way. The unit has been recently upgraded and we loved the changes, particularly the white counter tops in the kitchen. It had everything for our needs. One minor issue - we did have trouble getting the tv to work consistently with the universal remote. We finally figured out that if you turn on the remote, then press the on/off button on the tv it would opefrate normally. We suspect the culprit was probably that the remote needed to be changed. However, after locating the Samsung tv remote and adding new batteries we could never get the tv to respond otherwise we would have checked which hdmi channel it was set at. Again no big deal, but it needs to be addressed.

Thanks again for making our trip so memorable. We couldn't have wished for more.

The condo was beautifully furnished and well equipped. The one ting that it really lacked was any sort of instructions on what to do when I left. My daughter rented 2003 and they had explicit instructions, I have rented condos before so I had an idea of what you wanted but it would have been nice to have it written down. I also appreciated the chairs that she had in her condo. You did not have any. The location was beautiful.Gail Layman

Had a very relaxing and comfortable stay. We visit the west side of the Big Island at least once a year (for the past 12 years). We usually rent houses so this was a bit of a change. We've stayed in Puako, Waikaloa, Kailua and Kealakekua Bay. This was a very convenient location for a condo stay with great views and amenities. We will definitely consider this location in the future should we require a condominium.

Very good unit with housekeeping issue

We have stayed in at least 6 different units at Kanaloa over the last 13 years or so. This unit, 2002,which we just occupied recently, was the second unit we stayed in with friends in about 2004. It has been upgraded recently and is well appointed. It's approach is shady and private and is about 60 ft from the surf. The lanai has close to a 180 degree view of the ocean and is in the shade until mid afternoon. We had an issue with the housekeeping agreement related to supplies and being precharged for interim cleaning, which is fairly routine, which didn't happen. Both Aloha Condos and the owner apologized for the miscommunication and we were credited for that charge. The only items needing attention was a loose fitting kitchen faucet which had no affect on function and 2 binoculars available that need replacing, probably victims of the salty, humid air

Also, microwave, toaster, and coffee maker all are on same 15 amp circuit- blew breaker, but could not find it behind painting. Note would help! Finally got help from Condo manager. Our second stay in #2002, and we'll likely be back. Perfect location, well equipped and nicely updated. This is the way to go, vs booking through Outrigger or Castle, since you know exactly which unit you're getting, and can see it ahead of time. Kanaloa is a perfect spot, and have been going now for 33 years, starting with our honeymoon in 1983!

Great Condo, Great Location

This is a wonderfully large condo, with a location right on the ocean front. My husband is handicapped, which is why we booked this condo: it has a roll-in shower and an accessible bathroom with grab bars and raised toilets--not always easy to find in condo rentals. Weather was really hot this time of year (late September), with virtually no wind, so we appreciated the A/C during our week long stay. There were some problems with the television reception. Directions listed in the "help" book don't work at all, but I was able to get the set working. And the cable company was working on the property, resulting in loss of reception for a time. Also, there are no working telephones in the condo. Apparently, they are not even hooked up. If you need to call re an emergency, keep your cell charged at all times--it will be your only phone. The condo is very well stocked with anything you might need for simple living, including lots of seasonings. We had some insect problems in the kitchen (small ants), but I was able to eliminate them with Simple Green found under the kitchen sink. Also had a huge cockroach, but finally got rid of him, too. There is a small refrigerator outside, but it is in dire need of defrosting. We didn't need to use it at all. The ocean views and privacy of the condo are exceptional. We both enjoyed sitting on the lanai in the morning, having breakfast and watching the outriggers go by. Didn't see any dolphins, but certainly loved watching the surf hit the lava rocks. There's a shopping area just up the hill, perfect for picking up groceries at the KTA or getting a quick meal at L & L or Subway. Covered parking is close by, but be sure to drop off any handicapped person near the condo before using the very small space. Exiting the car is not always easy, if the other space is occupied. We truly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again in the future, health willing. The condo is very well furnished, large, and in a great location. Go for it!

The patio is large and only about 40 feet from the ocean. It was so incredibly beautiful and very private. Each morning we had breakfast on the deck and watched surfers, kayaks and even saw some whales and large fish jumping. The condo was fully equipped with absolutely everything we needed. The kitchen has a couple dozen different spices. There was snorkeling gear and even a yoga mat, which we did use most mornings! The gardens on site and the grounds were spotless and very well maintained. The flowers and plants beautiful. Just like stepping out in to your own little private botanical garden. There is several pools and the closest to us was the adult pool. There was rarely anyone else there and it truly felt like we had our own private pool and hot tub!The KTA grocery store just a 15 minute walk away has everything you really need to cook some fantastic meals. We went to Walmart once the day after we arrived and then opted to visit the local store! Try their toasted coconut ice cream in a small white container. I am totally addicted!! The cleanliness and attention to detail were superb. They thought about everything! If you are looking for a place where you are within walking distance to attractions this is not it. But if you want romance, zen views of waves and water, great location to drive short distances to explore, and feeling right at home...this is THE place. I paid more than what I had budget for... but was everything I could have asked for in having the best. We bought some groceries and enjoyed breakfast in an unhurried setting before we went out. Actually it was tough for me to not just sit there for hours(!) and watch the waves and see the kayakers, paddlers, fishing boats and charters ply the waters in front of us. We used the binoculars to check for dolphins which we saw one afternooon. The condo had boogie boards, towels, and a cooler we used for the beach (also some pails, etc. for younger kids). The second bedroom had 2 beds so our kids (boy and girl) each had their own bed. There were ceiling fans in all the rooms so we could cool the condo off when it was warm. We paid for the air conditioning and we did use it about half the nights b/c of humidity, but tried to limit it, partly because we liked to hear the ocean and feel the breeze when there was one. There was some equipment in the closet of the 2nd bedroom for smaller children (a high chair I think, and some toys, possibly a playpen). I like having a washer and dryer (detergent provided) so we didn't have to bring as many clothes with us. There were also some games and Dvd's available which was great. There were several books available for reading and with info. on the Big Island for helping plan what you wanted to do. My husband loved playing the ukelele! He plays the violin at home so it was great for him to have an instrument available to play. We really like this condo and felt very relaxed there.

There were numerous thoughtful, small touches - books to read, games, candles (we enjoyed several lovely candlelit dinners on the oceanfront deck), viewing telescopes, etc. This is a two bedroom, two bath unit and is quite spacious. The master bedroom and bathroom are quite large and there is plenty of storage for golf bags, snorkel gear, etc. The grounds at Kanaloa are well maintained. There are grills conveniently located nearby and the pools are clean (although they are small).

We booked through Aloha Condos (for the second time); they are professional and quite straighforward. We had no interface with the Outrigger Kanaloa office, so I cannot comment there.

Our family loved this unit. The Ocean views were outstanding. We saw whales and dolphins from the patio. Our grandson enjoyed the pool. I rented it for the wheel chair lift, but could not get it to work. The condo key would not fit the lift lock. Fortunately I did not have to use a wheel chair during our stay. Our contact was very helpful in allowing us to extend checkout time so the grandson could get in his much needed afternoon nap.

The Best Family Vacation

After spending 10 days at Kanaloa at Kona unit #2002, no one wanted to come home. This condo came with everything we could have asked for and then some. In the kitchen there were plenty of dishes, pots, pans, utensils, spices and even a coffee grinder for our morning Kona coffee. There were beach towels, coolers, chairs, boogie boards, snorkel's and many other beach toys for us to use.

Our two boys ages 13 and 9 shared one of the beadrooms and bathrooms and had plenty of room to spread out. Our bedroom was very spacious and had more than enough space to put our things. I had every intention of using the jacuzzi tub in the evenings but could never tear myself away from the most amazing views we had from our lanai. Three sets of binoculars from the condo gave us all plenty of time to watch the whales jump in the water and whatever else happened to catch our eyes each day.

We as a family spent a couple of hours every night out on our lanai, listening to the waves, watching the boats, and playing games such as yahtzee, dominoes and cards. These games were in our condo when we got there. What a great idea. Anyone with middle aged children will understand what I mean when I say it was great to get back to the basics. Things get so crazy back home with school, sports, and all the activities, that it was so nice to have family time again. The boys loved it and so did we.

We used the pools at Kanaloa several times as our youngest found out that sea urchins kind of freak him out a bit so the ocean was not his best friend. We played tennis, grilled out on the BBQ's, and enjoyed the virgin lava flows from the restaurant and bar at Kanaloa.

There is a big screen T.V. in the living room that we turned on only a couple of times to watch the big Island channel and the weather. The washer and dryer were also very usefull.

Whenever we return to Hawaii, this will be the only place we will stay at as it was nothing less than spectacular.

This is a classy, well-furnished and appointed, beautifully located, quiet, private unit situated right on the ocean. We spent many restful hours listening to the crashing surf and observing the canoe and kayak 'traffic' from the lanai. The downside was that our refrigerator failed after several days; we were told the frig had known problems and needed to be defrosted and was due for replacement. We were told to perform our own defrosting which we did, then cleaned up afterward ourselves. We were able to save some of our food in ice chests but also lost some of the more fragile items which we had to replace at our cost. When asked if we could extend our 10-day stay on departure day by several hours, we were told 'no'. The excuse was that someone else had rented the unit for our departure evening; however, the website booking calendar showed the unit as free. Other on-site property dwellers confirmed no one occupied the unit that evening. We are disappointed at this rigid application of checkout policy.
