My husband and I stayed in this condo 5 days. We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay but in a prime location. We got that when we booked this condo. We got a great deal and the location was located on the marina and in close proximity to ala Mona Mall. McDonalds and aBC store is across the way. The location is great. The room was ok. The bed matress is a little on the hard side and the bedding appeared over used. The towels appeared clean, but had an odd color and scent to it. I would suggest bringing or purchasing your own towels. The bathroom is clean. I couldn't find more toilet tissue in the condo. The condo had a kitchen and a standard size refrigerator/freezer. We didn't use the kitchen at all except keeping our left overs in the ref. The carpet felt a little dirty and musty. Bring slippers to wear around the condo. The condo was facing the mountains so it was nice to see the sun peak through. The check in and check out process was easy. When we first arrived the security guard escorted us to the room and made sure we knew how to use the lock box. That was nice of her. Tip: If your renting a car and don't want to pay the ridiculous parking garage fees, you can park your car along the marina and pay less using the parking meter. It saved us a lot. Overall, we got what we paid for and it was fine for us given that we did not hang out too much in the room.

I chose the Ilikai Marina location because I could swim at the Hilton beach, walk to the grocery store or farmer's market(Ala Moana Center) or Walmart (behind ala Moana Center) on a daily basis for groceries and supplies. The room worked out perfectly for my purpose - daily studying at the table, cooking and sleeping. I was alone so studio perfect size (for one or two people). Condo nice and private - solid walls. Street noise loud on week-ends - I kept lanai door closed and a/c on at night. Cooking supplies adequate - no complaints suggestions/problems: front door squeaks and lanai door sticks fitted bed sheet loose - maybe a thicker mattress pad? Housekeeper pleasant and accomadating - no complaints

This is the perfect location to stay at. Just a 5-10 minute walk to ala Moana Beach/Mall 10-15 minute walk to Waikiki. Nearby is also the lagoon where you can watch fireworks up close alongside the water on Friday nights. If you don't mind minimal, but clean accomodations this is the place to stay at. The TV is fairly small, but it's Hawaii! You should be out and about enjoying the sun and not cooped up in your room! The property manager is also very good at responding to questions so a+ for customer service.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Studio Condo. It's the best location near Waikiki (approx 15 min walk and away from the busy traffic and noise) and near the ala Moana Shopping Center. Great restaurants and eateries are also nearby. Most of all the beach area for swimming as it is minutes to the Hilton Hawaiian lagoon and the strand of Waikiki beaches. No car was needed as we limited our activities to the Waikiki and downtown areas. Public transportation was easier than deal with parking fees which is not cheap. The nearby Ilikai Hotel is also a pickup point for activities outside Waikiki such as Snorkeling in Hanauma bay, Polynesian Cultural Center, Luaus, and others. The Condo is clean and great lodging for 2 people for sleeping purposes only. The kitchen is perfect for small breakfast meals. View of the mountain in the small lanai is great. For the price, it's a great deal... we were able save money and spend it on other luxuries such as the ambasador package at the Poly Cultural Center tour and luau (a whopping $150/person). A small loveseat would have been great instead of sitting on the bed or the poly plastic dining chairs to watch a little bit of TV. The lockbox was a challenge to open for the keys.. we sweat (:-) for 20 mins between me and my wife to open and close back. We were ready to call for help but it was after 10 pm so we decided not to. Communication with Chuck was great up to a few days before and after our stay. Thank you for all the info and ensuring we had a nice time. We'll consider staying again and refer our friends. Aloha and till next time... Hawaii Lovers

Condo in very good location, close (walking distance) to many things, cafe's, shops & beach. Condo clean, bed comfortable. The only negative was that the carpet in the hallway had been taken up for renovation and the floor was sticky from the elevator to the condo unit!! However, that said, it was such a great value that we would not hesitate to consider it again should we return. Also, Chuck was wonderful to work with, very helpful...Thank you Chuck!

If you are looking for a no frills basic accommodation in a great location then this is the perfect place to rent. Pro:Great location- close to shops, beach, bus stops and restaurants. The place was clean and in a safe neighbourhood. We felt safe coming back to the condo late at night. Good value for the price. Chuck was very detailed with how to check into the condo and it was smooth for the most part (I will explain in the cons section). If you don't have a smartphone or a laptop or tablet such as in our case you can go to ING direct cafe (about 5 to 10 min walk)where they have an internet cafe where you can use the computers for a very good price. Cons: We had difficulty getting into our condo initially because of the deadbolt lock on top was sticking making us think that the wrong key was left in the key box. Once we figured out how to jiggle the key in the deadbolt it was fine. We were informed from the description for the condo that there would be a blender for us to use. There was no blender in sight. It was not a big deal, but you might want to update your description of the condo so future guests will know what appliances are available. There was a musty/moldy smell when we first entered the apartment near the kitchen area but then afterwards it was fine. The television was a little small but we were not in the condo much so it was fine for us. If you have a disability having to take the steps to get to the elevator might be an issue. However there is a little sidewalk by the parking garage beside the condo where you can walk and pull your luggage so you don't have to lift your luggage up the steps. The condo is not wheelchair accessible (that we could see)and even if you park in their parkade you still need to walk up or down a flight (or two)of stairs to get to the elevator. Overall my friend and I enjoyed our stay at the Ilikai Marina and have no problems staying here again or recommending this place to anyone else.

We had a good five week stay in this unit. It is ideally located for shopping, beaches etc. The unit is large enough to accommodate two adults and 1-2 small children. The kitchen has some good upgrades, a well functioning stove and fridge. It could benefit from a small table for food preps for longer staying guests who may be cooking more frequently. There are laundry facilities on the 8th floor which was a great asset. The Ilikai Marina is generally quiet at night. In terms of safety there were staff visible throughout the day and security staff in the evening. We would stay in this unit again and have recommended it to others. Dennis

Overall our stay was pleasant. The booking process and instructions were clear and straight forward. The greatest advantage of this condo is its location. It's very close to everything: beaches, shopping, public transit. The buses are very good only that they were severely disrupted during apec. The interior of the condo need to be updated. The carpet in the hall way is very old and dirty. I was surprised why carpet is even used in Hawaiian climate. The towels in the unit are very old, thin and even dark coloured. They should be replaced long time ago. The bed sheets are clean but perhaps the inserts are old and we smelled some odours. We liked open the sliding door of the balcony to get some Hawaiian fresh sea breeze, but it is a bit windy on the 17th floor and the wind shakes the door and makes noise.

My recent stay at the Ilikai Marina studio condo 1785 was a good one. The condo is adequately stocked with a coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes, silverware, vacuum, and an iron. Ac works good. Free wireless internet and cable TV. Tv is small, but a flatscreen with good picture. The bed is a king and medium hard. The unit was clean. Lanai is small, view is of the city. Location is good for ala Moana shopping and the park. Bus stops are close. Rental car from alamo is nearby if you want a car for a day trip. Plenty of places to eat and five minutes to the lagoon or beach. Check-in and check-out effortless. My only gripe would be the cleaning fee, which for me was $200 over a 13 day stay. This was for one cleaning at mid-stay and one at check-out. I think one cleaning at the end of the stay would have been adequate and saved me $100. To be fair, I think cleaning charges are excessive for all condo rentals in Honolulu. I will certainly consider staying in 1785 again in the future, and would recommend the condo to those looking for a value accomodation for one or two people, or a couple with one child.

mf from USA on 08/06/2011 said:
We were very disappointed with this condo rental for the following reasons: 1. Upon our arrival the condo had not been cleaned since the last tenant - food, trash, and dishes were scattered about the kitchen and dining table. The bedspread cover was dirty and stained. When we called the onsite contact, Alice, she came immediately to clean and said she was never notified that we were coming. Alice promptly cleaned the condo and replaced the bedspread cover with a new one. However, when we returned we noticed that the toilet had not been properly cleaned and there were splatter marks on the toilet seat. 2. The bathroom has new fixtures and *looks* good in the photos, but has a strong moldy smell. We were not sure where it was coming from, but the shower curtain liner was covered in mold/mildew. 3. The toaster is a fire hazard. Its sides get extremely hot after toasting one piece of toast. We found this out the hard way when I touched the side of it and got a second degree burn on my finger. 4. The bed skirt is ripped on a couple of places and is taped together with duct tape. When we contacted the owner/manager, Chuck Buser, to express our concerns about the cleanliness about the condo, we were never able to reach him. Yes, this condo is very inexpensive per night and is in a good location for beach access, but we found the problems to be too overwhelming and we will never stay here again. We will also hesitate to recommend the entire property because of the problems with this unit.
Manager response:
The condo had not been cleaned because you chose to ignore our instructions and checked in very early. When we have guests arriving and departing on the same day, the cleaners need to have uninterrupted access to the condo in order to fully prepare it for the next guest. Had you followed our very simple instructions, or at least requested an early check-in in advance, this would have been a much better experience for all of us. Your local contact is there to help, and had you given us the opportunity to correct any of our shortcomings during your visit, we would have been happy to do so.
Chuck.

Visitors from Vancouver, B.C. from Vancouver, B.C. Canada on 02/19/2011 said:
Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay at this condo. It was safe, modernized and well-equipped. In respect of cleanliness, I would recommend washing of the windows, drapes and carpets. (I presume the bedspreads/pillow covers are laundered after each stay). If you are noise sensitive, take your ear plugs or if you have trouble sleeping you might look for a quieter location, away from the ongoing background noise of traffic (buses, trolley cars, taxis and motorcycles). At nighttime, the outside noise level did not subside until between 2:00 a.m. - 5:30 a.m. Otherwise, the location was ideal, very close walking distance to a wonderful swimming beach area adjoining the Hilton Hawaiian Village complex (great ice-cream and coffee at Lampert's), lovely Duke's lagoon with the fireworks displays on Friday evenings 8:45 p.m., shady Fort De Russey Park, Magic Island, and good swimming at ala Moana Beach Park, nearby restaurants such as Charters, the downstairs pub with excellent pizza, and the Red Lobster and a handy aBC store at the corner on ala Moana Blvd. Thee to four blocks away is great shopping at ala Moana Shopping Centre, while at Ross's, Wall Mart and the Don Quixote store you can get more affordable grocery items, clothing & household items, souvenirs, chocolates, Kona coffee etc. There is good bus service to where ever you want to go in Waikiki, Honolulu or other parts of the island and you can conveniently rent a car from avis across the street at the Discovery Tower, or Thrifty's Car Rental (on Kalakaua just east of ala Moana Blvd.). We especially loved our day trips to Diamond Head Park and Hanauma Bay. Our trip around the eastern side, north shore and through central Oaha was interesting seeing different landscapes, the surfers riding the big waves, pineapple plantations, corn fields and other rural areas. We loved our first visit to Oahu and would stay at this condo again - great value and convenient! Aloha and Mahalo.

Wayne Zimmerman from Victoria, BC Canada on 04/14/2010 said:
First of all, the booking and instructions for accessing the condo were excellent. The location is great and the condo was clean. The issues we had are small and relate to the unit needing a bit of money spent on it to make it excellent. The TV had been replaced with a flat screen, but it is only about a 20" widescreen, pretty small. One towel bar in the bathroom was missing and the shower curtain was falling apart. The kitchen has been reno'd, but it was a cheapo job with the cabinets being installed so high the you need to get on a stool to reach the second shelf, let alone the third one. The ceramic tiles on the kitchen floor are chipped and the carpet in the rest of the unit (along with the drapes and the hokey old silk flowers) all need to be scrapped. Also, the rollers on the sliding door to the balcony and its lock are worn out making the door very difficult to open and impossible to secure. It also bangs and whistles when the wind is strong. The unit includes towels and a face cloth, but they are so old and thin that we bought some new ones. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again, but it take a fairly small amount of attention and expenditure on this condo to make it the one that we would seek out for our next stay.
Manager response:
Dear Wayne:

Thanks for the review, and suggestions.

I am buying new bath towels, face cloths, fixing the towel bar, shower curtain, balcony door lock.

Hope it will give you a better experience for your next stay. Room was clean. Bed Sheets were of good quality, Pillow was fair quality. Bath Towels and face towels ok. Bed a huge King, slightly firm and we slept well all except the first night. Drapes black out room quite well. The condo had plenty of items some condos do not have such as: Coffee Filters, Sugar, Paper towels, toilet paper, salt etc. It could be that the previous guest left some of the items. Great little kitchen to make coffee every morning. Huge Frig. Great to have a dining table in the room. TV had many channels. The view of the City/Mountains is very panaromic. Location to Resturants and ABC store is only 1 or 2 blocks away. The room is quiet, except for the first night when one of the neighbors was in late and loud with shutting their lanai door which really shakes up the wall. We got the room when there was a special rate, so all in all much better, bigger room than a Hotel in the same price range.

We found Condo 1785 excellent. The booking process via Aloha Condo's website was quick and easy and the email communication via Chuck was excellent every step of the way, from telling us when payments are being taken and providing the joining instructions, to answering any ad-hoc questions as soon as they were sent. The condo itself was very clean and well kept with everything you need. The main room is large and the condo has a full kitchen, cooker / fridge etc with a clean bathroom. The entire building was fairly modern and well kept. Its a 5 minute walk to the closest beach (next to the Hilton) and a 15 minute walk to Waikiki beach and all the amenities, shops and restaurants found there. Closer to the condo are a number of restaurants and bars, the Ala Moana shopping centre is a 5 minute walk, and an ABC store is over the road. The only critisism we had is there wasn't a grocery store or supermarket near to the condo (we didnt really look too hard) and there is some street noise from the balcony even when the doors were closed but this really was not a problem. Stopping here is a fraction of the cost of the hotels close by and you have the option of cooking meals rather then eating out. Its only 5-15 minutes away from everything you need which for us made it exceptional value for money without offering dirty, cheap and nasty accommodation. I would reccommend this condo to everyone!

Chuck.
