First vacation to Oahu - it was a Wedding - Vacation. Our stay at 1188 was 10 days. Loved the amazing view, the suite was clean, good size, large king bed was very comfortable. The location was excellent. The beach was a short walk. We found a Market Place a couple of block up from the Condo, with was good for purchasing a few grocery items. We had booked a few day trips, and the pick up was very close to the condo. We also used the city bus, which was also easy to use. We enjoyed our stay and had a great vacation.

This condo had everything. The view, the space, all nicely modernised, kitchen had everything in it, (altho we ate out most of the time). rebutting clean, seemed like a newish bed, mattress not saggy or anything. We had a great view of the hurricane that didn't get to us (thank goodness). The owners kept in great contact all thru the impending storm to make sure we were ok and let us stay a little longer to fit in with our next move to another condo. FABULOUS. DEF stay there again.

This is our second trip to Hawaii in 12 months, and our second time at the Ilikai Marina, but our first time in Condo 1188. I would not hesitate in recommending both the location and the condo - the Illikai is easy walking distance to both the centre of Waikiki and Ala Moana shopping centre, but also quiet and relaxing as it is away from the crazy crowds. Multiple buses, and the trolley, stop just outside the building on ala moana blvd, so it is super easy to get around. And also, if you are Australian, you can get decent coffee at Kimobean, just across the blvd! The condo had everything we needed, including an amazing view of the marina and the free friday night fireworks at the hilton hawaiian village. You are only a couple of minutes walk from the lagoon and the beach, and there is even a great local bar in the basement! Hawaii is a fantastic holiday destination, and if you are coming to Waikiki, I definitely would suggest staying here - it can't be beaten on price.

This was a great condo, well presented and had everthing we needed to relax and enjoy our stay. It has a great view over the harbour, only a short walk to the beach, Ala Moana shopping centre, or the centre of Waikiki. There are plenty of resturants within an easy walk and a covienience store on the corner for any supplies.
This is the best Waikiki view for the price.

The total cost for our 8 night stay was about $1410. The view from this condo is something you would expect from a place that costs 3 times as much. The condo is obviously older, but reasonably well-maintained. It is furnished in a bare-bones, unremarkable style, and a couple of things need attention. The couch needs a cleaning, or better yet, replacing. The bathroom door hinges squeak, but that happens a lot near the water. I called the manager about the bathroom vent fan switch that worked intermittently. That should be fixed by now. The lanai was missing a couple of tiles. If you have not seen the lanai, think of it as more of a French balcony, We just opened the door for a 4 foot opening and pulled dining room chairs next to it since there really isn't much room out there. It extends out to about 20 inches of useable space in the center and curves back on each side to touch the building. I have stayed in this building before, so I knew what to expect; now you do. The bed was excellent. The kitchen was well stocked. The building is well-maintained and you are within walking distance of enough shopping, attractions, and restaurants to keep you busy for several days. We didn't bother renting a car. There is some elevator work going on this year, so there may be some delays with them. I would definitely stay here again. The view of the marina and ocean is remarkable. On Friday nights, there is about a 5 minute fireworks display at the Hilton which is clearly seen from the condo. With reasonable expectations, you will be happy here.

For the price we payed for this condo, it was a very pleasant stay! The views are amazing! Location is perfect with plenty of restaurants in the area, easy walk to ala Moana Beach Park, Hilton Lagoon, and ala Moana Mall. Nice parking garage option if needed, $20 a day. Easy walk into Waikiki, otherwise the bus stops are just next door and across the street and the bus is very easy to use. The condo has all the extras to enjoy the beach: beach chairs, beach mats, floats, toys, pool noodles, beach towels, etc. Have previously stayed at the Ilikai Hotel but preferred our stay here. This condo is ideal for a relaxing beach vacation. The location couldn't be better! It's right by the lagoon and beach but in a much quieter area so not crowded. A short walk to restaurants and shopping in either direction. The interior was very comfortable and can sleep 4 with no trouble. The kitchen, dining and living area were perfect for cooking and hanging out. The balcony was perfect because it overlooks the beach and the marina but is on the 11th floor so felt very private. We have stayed here now for 6 years in a row and will be back to this condo again.

The marina / ocean view is what memories are made of. So very peaceful to watch the sunset on the lanai with my husband. Bed was comfortable and ample linen and towel supplies. Beach towels, lawn chairs, etc. were also supplied. There were board games and movies you could watch, but we did not take advantage of those, as we were always out exploring the beautiful sites that Oahu has to offer. Pick-up location for bus is 1 block away (at the Ilikia Hotel). Bathroom has been renovated which was very nice. The kitchen offered all the pans, utensils, etc. that you could want. A negative aspect for us was that the laundry facility was on the 8th floor and one person stayed there until the laundry was finished which gave us less time to explore! Overall, the condo stay was very positive.

The rental was everything we expected from the description and pictures. It was perfect for our needs. I had considered a lot of rentals and thought the location was going to be a drawback here but amenities were close by and a short walk to Waikiki beaches (although we preferred to explore the island more than Waikiki). Never contacted the owner and everything was ready and as explained in the emails they sent us. Treated the rental like it was our own and got the deposit back without issue. No hassles like a vacation should be.

This was our second year in a row at staying at this apartment for one week. Like the first time, this time was no different in that the aparttment is well kept very clean and has all the comforts of home. The benefit for us is the early check in for an additonal small fee. Arriving from Sydney the flight lands at 6.30am, and by the time through customs and then to apartment it is around 7.45am apartment was available at 8am so it was time to have a quick shower and a little sleep before commencing the day. The 8th floor has washing machine and dryers, so all you need is 8 quaterds for the washing machine, 8 quaters for the dryer and washing powder. The bed is a wonderfully comfortable king size with a pull out sofa. The keyless security entry is fantastic as well, a four digit pin and your in. Nothing else to say, except that this apartment is well worth the little extra cost to that of a hotel. It is for us within walking distance to the city and its beach, walking distance to Moana Shopping Centre and just a ittle bit further on down Moana Blvde there are a number of great stores like Ross and other discout stores including Nordstrom Rack. We will be back next year no doubt. For sun and fun its a short walk out of the buileing and then 5 mintues to the beach and also to a lagoon where we spent quite a bit of time enjoying a swim and some sun. Finally booking was all done by email, it was convenient and efrfortless Gary responds very quickly to all emails and has great detail in his reply answers.

We love ice for drinks, large fridge with icemaker, every kitchen utensil you can think of. Every day when we would walk to the lagoon or beach (with our beach chairs & towels supplied) & arrive home & John would say "you got onto a winner here". We love the beach & John loves Marinas, so he was in 7th Heaven...we had better not say too much more, or we won't be able to book the condo next time we want to come to Waikiki!!! Almost every night that we were there at 8 o'clock, there were fireworks just for us. We spent 10 days in the condo and it felt just like our own home. Very central to shopping food and the tourist district. We are already planning our next trip back and look forward to staying in this condo again. we parked our car in the attached parking garage, it was very safe and the attendance were very friendly. The security was very noticeable and we felt safe walking around the building in the general area.if we were to offer any comments on upgrading the unit it would be too improve the quality of the towels and linens in the bed and maybe modernize the dishes that were available. I suppose if that's all that was wrong with this place, our experience was excellent overall.

My wife and I visit Oahu every year. We've stayed at a few other spots in Waikiki, as well a rental house in Kailua or with family. All spots were carefully researched and turned out great. What sets this condo apart is that it's perfectly located away from the busy streets of Waikiki, yet walking distance if you are that's where you want to go. Or you can walk the opposite direction towards ala Moana Mall and catch the twice daily happy hour Mai Tai Bar has to offer. Not to mention all of the shopping both places has to offer. Perfect area for runners around Magic Island and ala Moana Beach Park. The parking situation was good, $20 is the average rate throughout the city. But most nights we were able to find parking on Hobron Lane, Kaioo Drive, or ala Wai Blvd. Which is worth the walk to save some money. For those unlucky nights, we paid the $7/10 hour special parking lot price and ended up leaving a little early to travel the island. The condo was very clean and spacious. The Lanai is kind of small to have two people sit out there. So I ended up pushing the couch up to face outside and enjoy the sunset with my wife. And in the morning we could watch the surfers beyond the Marina. I would definitely recommend this condo to my friends and family. And will stay here again if it is available next year. Thank you! We had a great time!

We stayed in Condo 1188 for 8 nights with our 7 month old daughter and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is a fantastic condo - great value for money and would not hesitate to recommend to others. It is slightly dated but exceptionally clean and everything works perfectly! Excellent wi-fi and free local calls which came in very handy. Great kitchen - well stocked with all the appliances you would need for a comfortable stay - perfect for us with our baby. Only issues were that it would be nice to have a high-chair for our child and occasionally noisy during the day (from trucks beeping while reversing on the road) when we were having naps but this was not often and just specific to us as we were travelling with a little one. Most of the time we were out and about anyway. The condo is extremely spacious and well located. Cross the road and there is an aBC convenience store and Red Lobster is downstairs. Short drive or easy walk to ala Moana shopping centre and Waikiki Beach, Like others have said, best to go to Walmart or Costco for groceries as Foodland is quite expensive. Short walk to the Hilton Hawaiin Village and fireworks on Friday night is great from the balcony! We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiin Village for a few nights after our stay in the Condo to try the 'Resort' experience and wished we had stayed longer at Condo 1188 instead. It is great value for money and very comfortable. Thanks Gary and Mary for sharing your condo with us! We will surely recommend to friends visiting Oahu!

Two minor complaints: lack of toilet paper (2 rolls for a whole week) and not enough towels. These are easily remedied. Thanks to Gary and Mary for a wonderful stay in 1188. This unit had everything we needed for this family vacation. Kitchen is well stocked if you plan on cooking most of your meals like we did. Even has a rice cooker. Stop at Costco on your way from the airport or Walmart is only a mile away. There is a beach cooler and some ice packs so you can tote some drinks and /or lunch to the beach with you or on your day trips. At the time of our stay, the unit had a lot of beach toys, grass mat, 2 beach chairs to help out. We left some more grass mats and 5 boogie boards and an extra cooler to assist the next group. Beach towels are also provided in the unit. Both beds are comfortable. There is TV service, WiFi and an iPod dock/speaker system. Enjoy the Hilton fireworks right from your lanai with a Mai Tai. I've been to Oahu many times and have stayed in hotels in Waikiki. Most of the hotels are nice, but the rooms lack any space. Since I have used aloha Condos for my stays on the Big Island, this time I stayed in one of their condos on Oahu. The Ilikai marina was built in 1968, but the building itself is kept fresh, though they could use new carpet in the hallway leading to the rooms. Room 1188 seems to have been updated recently and was a very nice place to stay. I did not use the kitchen to cook, but the appliances were also undated. It was so much more relaxing to be in this condo, as opposed to a hotel. There is at least 3 times the room as a regular hotel. I would probably have to pay 3 times as much for a hotel room with just as much space and ocean view. All in all it is a great value, you get an ocean view, friday fireworks in the Marina, and room to spread out in a condo that is fresh and clean. I can't wait for my next visit. One hit against the building, not the condo or owner. Make sure you tell the parking lot attendant that you want a residential pass before you pay the first time. They won't refund your money, even if you are asking them about it as they are putting the money in the register.

And if you like a quite beach and morning jogging it is only 15 minutes walk to ala Moana Park. Only few observations (and some of them not even related to the condo): 1. Smell in the hallways, probably because of old carpets or / and garbage room. 2. Better cleanliness of the apartment would be great. 3. As mentioned by one of the reviewer, recycling bins and explanations what can be recycled would be excellent (we don't want to keep destroying beautiful Oahu :)). Otherwise as I mentioned to Garry this was one of the best vacations in our lives. Definitely will recommend to our friends, and hope to return soon. Thanks Gary and Mary.

The king bed was very firm, and the pull out sofa sleeper was very comfortable with a memory foam top - very nice addition. The web site was very well designed, and the follow up emails were very informative, clear and simple. My family was very happy with my "find" at this condo. We will definitely be back. Thank you very much to Gary and Mary appel who I have never met but feel like I know them through their well thought out traveler's haven and emails. Aloha and Mahalo.

This condo 1188 is really a fantastic place to stay. Extremely clean and well equiped throughout. The only things I would fault it on would be the drapes in the bedroom and living room need replaced as they are torn and takes away the atmosphere of the condo. Also the sofa bed is a little uncomfortable to sit on but as we were not there that often it did not matter that much to us. It is a very quiet place and the views are spectacular! Only a short walk to beach and lagoon. Shopping is a mere 6 minute walk to huge shopping centre. A wonderful stay. Highly recommended. Susie Sydney Australia
Thank you for your review.
The drapes have been replaced with new blinds.

This was our second stay at the Ilikai Marina and we were happy with both condos we stayed in, 1188 and 17??. The view is fabulous, the marina side is quiet for being right in Waikiki, and having the full kitchen really made a big difference in our stay. The location is a close walk to Ala Moana Mall, the Beachwalk shopping area and Waikiki. Watching the sunsets, water activities (and Friday night fireworks)from our lanai while drinking some fabulous 100% Kona coffee was a great vacation highlight. On site laundry on the 8th floor was helpful too. Hint: The higher floors are better if you are noise sensitive as the great bar/restaurant on the ground floor marina side stays busy late. If we were to want to stay in Waikiki again, this is where we would book.

RENTED THIS CONDO AT A GOOD PRICE PER NIGHT FOR ONE WEEK. THE CONDO WAS VERY CLEAN AND HOME LIKE. THE CONVENIENCE OF THE BEACHES, DOWNTOWN HONOLULU, FOR SHOPPING AND RESTUARANTS. GREAT GREAT!!! THE VIEW OVER LOOKING THE HARBOR AND OCEAN WAS VERY NICE, ESPECIALLY FOR THE SUNSETS AND FIREWORKS. THE BALCONY WAS TOO SMALL TO REALLY ENJOY. INFACT IT WAS DARN RIGHT SCARY. THERE SHOULD BE INSTRUCTIONS ON WHERE TO THROW THE GARBAGE. I HAD TO GO ON MY OWN TO FIND THE DROP AT THE END OF THE HALL. SOME LITTLE DETAIL NOTES ARE WHAT IS NEEDED. MAYBE POSTED SOMEWHERE IN THE KITCHEN. ALSO, A MINOR THING, BUT IT DID HAPPEN THREE TIMES WHILE WE WERE THERE. THE SHOWER CURTAIN KEPT FALLING DOWN. I WOULD DEFINITIVELY RECOMMEND IT TO OUIR FRIENDS. We loved the condo. We have been visiting honolulu now for 25 years and this is by far the nicest condo we have stayed in. VERY clean, well appointed, very well equiped and the most reasonable condo we have ever found. Close to all amenities and still very very quite, and the view is spetacular. Sadly my father passed away and we had to cut our hoilday short by 3 weeks, but we will definitely try to rent this unit (1188) again next year and every year there after that we stay in honolulu. Thanks Gary and Mary for a wonderfull stay we will be back!

We were staying 3 weeks in this beautiful condo. The online booking worked perfect and before we arrived we got a lot of information from the owner. All our questions were answered promptly and they were very concerned that all of our needs were met. The condo is very nice, has a very well equipped kitchen and great views to the marina, the ocean and beautiful sunsets! The building is well situated, near to buses, shopping areas and to the beach. We had a great time and will recommend this condo to others too.

The condo was exactly as described and pictured. It was immaculate, comfortably furnished and had a fantastic view of the marina and Honolulu's beautiful sunsets. The kitchen was the best equipped condo of any we have stayed in from Paris to Amsterdam and the building was very quiet. The attached parking garage (while a bit pricey at $17 per day) was very convenient and secure with unlimited in and out privileges. The owners were extremely easy to work with and very concerned that all of our needs were met. Any questions we had were answered promptly. We had a local contact along with the owners' email and phone numbers in case of any problems - of which there were none. Our only initial concern was locating the actual entrance to the building. Our GPS couldn't determine that while the street address is Ala Moana Blvd. the building and parking garage are accessed via Hobron Ln. between The Red Lobster and Charter House restaurants. Having laundry facilities on the 8th floor near the elevators was convenient. Just remember to bring plenty of quarters and your own soap & fabric softener since there are no change machines or product dispensers. The only other comment concerns the carpeting in the hallways - it is in need of a deep cleaning and some TLC. This, however, is an issue for the complex not this specific unit. We had a great stay and have already told many friends that we would highly recommend this unit as the perfect place to stay while enjoying Honolulu, Waikiki and the island of Oahu.

We loved the condo, it has an awesome view with all the necessary amenities. Gary and Mary were wonderful to work with and made sure we knew what to expect. The location is great and away from noisy hotels but close enough to walk to the beach, all the great restaurants and night clubs. We liked the convenience of a kitchen and plenty of room to relax and you can't beat the view offered at the marina.

Our visit to Hawaii was great and the Condo was fantastic! We arrived in the afternoon and the view from the living room was beautiful! The Marina and the ocean were gorgious. I really liked how light and airy the condo was with it's white carpet and walls and white kitchen. I had stayed at the Ilikai Marina last year in a condo that was very dark and I love that this condo is so light and comfortable. The owners were very quick to respond to each of my inquiries and very professional and they had the best Aloha spirit! Thanks so much!

We stayed in this beautiful condo for 4 nights and the ocean view is breathtaking! The place is clean, kitchen very well equipped, owner and his local agent are very helpful. We did have a problem with the old sofa sleeper as its mattress is super thin and sleep on it is impossible so we decided to sleep on the floor, hopefully the owner will get a better sofabed(or an air mattress)soon, but other than that, everything else is just perfect. I'm telling all my friends about this place, some of them already expressed interest and are waiting for more detailed info, do I get a referral discount next time when I come back? ^_^
We have an air mattress in the condo for guests to use now. Thank you for the great suggestion!

We really enjoyed staying here--it has all the amenities we needed and a great location for both our sales and for R&R. Right downstairs is the Chart House and they have great deals at Happy Hour for appetizers and drinks! The view at sunset over the marina is just gorgeous and comes up as a screensaver on my computer quite often. Bed was quite comfy an dit was nice to be able to have breakfast on our own. We will stay here again if we can.

I have been reading the reviews since we stayed in this apartment and I can only assume something was done about the filthy carpet! I just felt sick when I saw it. Cannot imagine who would be able to spill so much on a cream carpet - it was hideous. As for the towels, my dog had better, really worn and a grey colour. Have never stayed in a holiday home that was so disappointing. I got in touch with the owner who just fobbed me off! Chuck the manager was great with the booking payment etc so no worries there. I do agree it is in a great place, so close to shopping and a lovely little lagoon to swim in if you don't want to walk to far when it is hot. Also there was no electric kettle at the time and we had to boil up a pot of water for tea, microwave water just does not cut it. Perhaps another apartment would be better for future holidays for us as I would not trust the pictures on the Aloha Condo site.
Thank you for your review and we appreciate the feedback.
Our guests do sometimes stain the carpet and after several unsuccessful attempts to remove the stains by steam cleaning, we decided to replace the carpet with a simulated wood floor - it's more attractive, and easier to keep clean. This was completed in November of 2008.
Although we have had no other complaints about the towels, our towels were replaced early this year (2009) when we brought in a new local contact and cleaning crew.
Both we (the owners), and our local staff make guest satisfaction a high priority. Guests are provided with contact information and we do respond to all our guest's concerns. The recent positive responses from our other guests confirm that we are achieving this priority.

It's a beautiful apartment with a gorgeous view. I found everything within the apartment, such as kitchen equipment, very adequate. Ala Moana Shopping Centre is close by, which made self-catering easy, and there's a little supermarket just on the corner if you don't fancy a walk. Waikiki is also handy in the opposite direction but if you'd rather avoid it, you can. The apartment is also within range of a pay as you go wireless network, which was useful for me. I wish I could have stayed longer, and would happily go back again. Loved the constant view of the sky and ocean, and the marina below. The only draw back was the high cleaning fee. However, it meant that the apartment was in very good condition.
The condo now has free Wi-Fi (wireless) internet.
