You are absolutely correct on these problems. They were solved two hours after the owner who was next coming, came to the unit to use it. There are signs on the door, the refrigerator, orientation page on desk, and the orientation book of what is on the islend for your pleasure has the top of the page first lines for Kathys Got It Maid for all problems of any kind. Idle hands locked the safe when empty or someone did not understand it. It was unlocked by the locksmith quickly and empty. The front door key was totally defragged and Kathy has extras, and the real problem was that the back door locked from the inside mechanically and the outside keylock froze from the salt air. it is relubed twice a year and has never frozen before. The cut screen was from a young person who could not wait to go around to the front door and cut the screen to get in. We were told about it. We have been owners of Maui Kai units on the ground floor for 35 years and not only we but no one in the Maui Kai has ever had a break in that way. We were able to watch the whales breaching and playing very easily from our Lanai while we sat and relaxed. There is a nice kitchen that is well-stocked with many appliances that will allow you to cook just about anything. There is also a grocery store, a farmer's market, and a fresh fish market very close to the Maui Kai for stocking the fridge. The condo stayed rather cool in general with just the ceiling fans on, but the air-conditioning rapidly cools down the condo if the need should arise. The only downside we found to the condo was that there was no daily maid service, which may be an option, however, we did not have that option, so we had to do laundry on our towels multiple times during our stay, however, there is a nearby This is a very well-maintained and clean condo and I would definitely stay there again without any hesitation.

The bed was extremely comfortable, the sofabed was better than most, the kitchen and bath spotless, the towels good sized and soft. You have to love a place where you can spot whales spouting just beyond the breakers, while you sip your first cup of coffee on the lanai. The owners leave a notebook of valuable information for guests, including favorite beaches, snorkling sites,(including the one right outside the lanai door!) and restaurants within walking distance along the beach. We dined at two of these, and wished we could stay a few more days, just to go back. You have to try the Hula Pie at Duke's, one dish serves 3-4. If I'm lucky enough to go back to Maui, I hope I can book #108 again.

Stayed here for 8 days with my wife and 2 kids (ages 10 and 1). Wonderful condo. The proximity to the beach and ocean is absolutely unsurpassed! So easy to go back and forth to the beach, particularly with kids. No need to pack up a ton of stuff, no car ride, no elevator ride - just simple! There is a pool onsite - but I have to admit that being right next to the ocean, we never even used the pool at all. It looked nice though. A wonderful ocean breeze - never turned on the aC even once during our stay. It's about 2-3 blocks from a grocery store - easy walking distance. The condo is limited in cabinet space for your groceries - that would be the only negative I can think of (Well, OK, the water pressure in the shower is lacking, but no big deal). The condo is clean, bright, and well decorated. The nightly sunset view is amazing. It has all the necessary amenities. All you need is your sunscreen and your grocery stop, and you're good! We will certainly stay here again. Love the condo, love the location. Very well done. Mahalo!

We stayed for 3 nights in Jan. 2012. Overall, it was really good; definitely the nicest of the 3 places I've stayed on Maui. The location can't be beat with the beach right outside your door and whale watching from the lanai (although people can see you through your lanai as they walk by on the boardwalk so if this bothers you, choose a unit on an upper floor). The kitchen was well equipped, the condo was very clean, and the WC was modern. On the downside, there was a slight smell of sewage through the window sometimes; not sure if this is a problem all over Ka'anapali area as we smelled it from the highway also. Also there was a slight hum (fridge? central air con from next door?). Finally, they were testing the fire alarm system while we were there. This is a necessary thing to do but the booking agent didn't warn us and I was annoyed as there was loud beeping for a couple of hours and we had an infant with us. Things to ask for next time...

Jayebird from Pittsburgh, PA on 11/18/2011 said:
Unit #108 was the best vacation I've had in Maui after many, many visits to the Island. I've stayed in both the fancy and not-so-fancy places and found the Maui Kai to be about the best. The location is terrific and if you want to be just steps from the beach this is the place for you. It has all the comfort of home and is well-stocked with kitchen utensils if you prefer cooking in the unit. The unit itself is very comfortable with seating on the lanai for ocean viewing and whale watching, tv's in both the bedroom and living room and quite comfortable furniture. Also provided are beach chairs, a cooler, and beach towels along with the basics to get started, such as t.paper, paper towels, spices, etc. The condo has a swimming pool for those days when the wind is too strong to lie in the sand. If you have any problems they have access to a wonderful maid service and she's right there for anything you might need. The condo, although not affiliated with the owners of this unit, are helpful as well. You can get free coffee in the morning and pick up a newspaper and great postcards there too. Convenience is unsurpassed as well. You can walk right next door to an upscale resort for music and cocktails or walk up and down a long stretch of beautiful beach. There is a full grocery store just a minute's drive away and loads of eatery's all around. Lahaina town is only a few minutes drive and where you'll find all the shopping and bars and restaurants you'll ever want. My favorite part of the entire experience was the ability to just walk out the door and be on the beach. No going in and out of lobby's or up and down elevators. Just out the door and on the beach! Quite wonderful! Thank you for a fantastic experience.

The unit was very clean, updated with modern amenities throughout and centrally located for our needs. Kathy, the unit contact, was wonderful to work with. We were a bit concerned about being on the first floor with foot traffic in front of the unit, however this was not a problem as most people used the beach path. If I had to say anything against the unit it would be that on several occasions the employee door, which is located next to the bedroom, was slammed in early morning hours. Having said that, this would not prevent us from future visits. The beach felt like it personally belonged to us as the views were unobstructed and spectacular. We saw whales, green turtles, spinner dolphins and swam with a giant devil mantaray while snokeling in Molokini. It was an awesome vacation. Thank you!

The condo worked out wonderfully for us. We also got to meet some of the other residents and shared stories at the very convenient Bbqs. The ability to be able to walk right out onto the beach was wonderful. The condo is very well stocked, and works well for extended stays. I stayed here for 5 nights with my 2.5 yr old daughter and it was beyond our expectations. I stopped at the Safeway in Kahului to buy Clorox wipes, among other things, as I usually clean hotel rooms and such upon arrival. I never used the wipes. The condo was impeccably clean and well-stocked. It's the only place I have not given a good wipe-down in years of travel. It was a great start the moment I opened the door! This was the perfect place to stay. Not only was the condo fabulous but the location is ideal. The building itself is on the smaller side and quiet---no hotel doors banging shut at 5am or loud people late into the night. However, there is a large resort right next door which allows for a 2 minute walk to eat at a restaurant while overlooking the ocean---without the daily resort fee! It's just steps to the sand from the lanai and the view is unbelievable. I was able to enjoy the view and feel as if I was on the beach while my daughter napped in the afternoons, opening the windows on the lanai and reading in the sun. I highly recommend this condo for anyone who wants to enjoy the beach and ocean as much as possible during their trip. Booking was a breeze, the directions for driving to and accessing the condo were concise and accurate, and there was not a single glitch in my stay. The housekeeper/caretaker of the condo even called on my last full day there to see if I needed anything and to assure my checkout would be seamless, as well. I almost hesitate to give a good review for fear of competition when booking for another visit next year! ; )

We loved our stay in unit #108 at the Maui Kai. It was a beautifully equipped condo with everything we ever needed. We could find just a few things lacking - an updated toaster, additional soap and shampoo, and a few wine glasses! The direct access to the beach was wonderful. Just being able to walk out 25 steps to the sand was the best experience of all. The location of the condos was excellent being down the beach from the busyness of the main stretch of hotels and activities. The owner information told us about the best guidebook ever "Maui Revealed". We never left our room without it. We'd return here in a heartbeat!

Bay Area Visitors from California on 07/09/2009 said:
I cannot think of a better location and the size of the complex is perfect. The onsite amenities are very good, pool, recreation room, etc. Parking was not an issue and the onsite staff are very friendly. The condo itself was okay, but it is in need of some updating. A bathroom ceiling tile (yes the old fashioned T-Bar) fell out while my daughter was showering and the vertical blinds kept falling out; and the unit had a dank smell, maybe due to the building's age or proximaty to the ocean. It was just felt old and dark. Having said this however, the location did in part make up for the condos shortfalls (somewhat). Tiling the floors and updating the bathroom would go a long long way.
Manager response:
The review we received is the only negative one we have ever received and we are sorry that your feelings about the apartment are negative. The apartment is regularly updated, this one in Q4, 2007 to Q2, 2008, less than five months before your visit. All overstuffed furniture, carpets, cloth on wooden furniture, lights, mattresses, entertainment centers remodeled with all new electronics including DVR and Blu-Ray, the complete lanai including concrete, glass windows and door, bathroom shower enclosure, all tile to granite in kitchen, and even the kitchen sink were replaced; and all furniture resurfaced as needed. The entire apartment was repainted, etc.
The verticals come down in heavy trade winds when the wind interlock doors are not used and the vanes are not opened to where the glass can protect them. We replace them with a call. All tile floors are a problem for people's feet and are a matter of taste, and usually are done for a reduction in cost of flooring.
We provide in your entry papers for orientation and codes, on the front door, refrigerator, and the orientation book the number to call for service of any kind if the apartment is not right. That apartment is not dank, dated, or old. It turns out that the building maintenance people did some work on the building water system above the ceiling in the bathroom, which has T Bar for access to A/C work and other property items, without notifying us, or the service, between rentals. They created the problem. Our policy is to relocate a guest immediately to another equivalent unit when any problem occurs that cannot be handled immediately, which this could not. It requires a phone call. We apologize that you did not care for your stay. But Oh, how we wish we had received a phone call.

Paul Risinger, Owner, Maui Kai Beach Resort Condo 108

I had roughly ten days to research and put together a last-minute trip to Maui for me, my husband, and our 2 year old. I really felt as though I was taking a giant gamble, as I knew nothing about Maui. I can't tell you how lucky I felt that I chose the Maui Kai, in particular, Condo 108. That it was right on the beach provided so much ease for us-- my daughter woke up each day saying, "Ocean, ocean." We met lovely families who were staying in the area, and it was just perfectly located for the slow beach days we craved. The condo itself is lovely and comfortable, and the kitchen is ridiculously well stocked with any bowl or utensil or pot you could want. It enabled us to have tremendous freedom in our day. I would recommend the condo to anyone-- it was perfect and we loved our stay.

The resort next door was a nice place to go for morning coffee or even breakfast and dinner. We would stop there in the morning before our walk on the beach. The condo was perfect and there was a book filled with information about the area, places to eat, where to get groceries, entertainment, just everything you would need to get around. The staff at the Maui Kai was very helpful and also at the maid service [called for extra towels]. Ample close parking. The kids enjoyed the pool. The rental process was simple and smooth. We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Maui Kai!! It was our first time staying on the West side; normally we stay in Kihei or the North Shore (Paia). It was so nice to be close to Lahaina and Kaanapali. The condo was clean, well stocked, and the gift basket was a really nice touch. It was great to be able to open the door to our lanai and walk literally 5 steps until sand hit our toes!! And having the clean water faucet right outside our door was nice what with two toddlers and all their sandy limbs and beach toys. Since we were so close to the water, we saw probably 10-15 whale breaches a day right from our condo lanai - it was just amazing!! Only negative and it is very, very slight, is that the beach outside the condo had a pretty strong shore break and undertow. It might have just been the time of year we went there....but it was strong enough that we didn't go swimming outside our condo and instead drove to other nearby beaches to do our swimming. Other than that, we had a fabulous time and we hope to return again soon!!

We have been owners of Maui Kai units on the ground floor for 35 years and not only we but no one in the Maui Kai has ever had a break in that way. The lock system is secure and worked from the inside. OH how we wish you had called Kathys Got It Maid for help and they would have been there that day in a couple of hours latest.

Owner MK 108

Probably the best place I've ever stayed in Maui

The whales were very active during our stay, and sitting on the lanai provided a perfect setting to watch the numerous whales, the kite surfers, and the beach walkers. We will certainly return.

We stayed here in September and we are still talking about the wonderful time we had. The condo is even better than the pictures. We will be staying here on our next vacation to Maui. When we arrived there was a beautiful basket of fruit and candy to welcome us. It was a lovely touch. But the VIEW was the best part, it was just breath taking, I can still see the ocean in my minds eye as I write. To wake up to that view was amazing. You just open the door and you are on the beach! The resort next door was a nice place to go for morning coffee or even breakfast and dinner. We would stop there in the morning before our walk on the beach. The condo was perfect and there was a book filled with information about the area, places to eat, where to get groceries, entertainment, just everything you would need to get around. We will never forget our visit, your condo made our vacation perfect.

My husband, our 2 teens, and I stayed here in August 2007 and loved it. From condo 108 you can walk right out onto the building's deck and down to the beach. The beach is right there! Spectacular view which includes Molokai. I especially enjoyed the view from the kitchen when cooking. The condo was well furnished and clean with a great breeze throughout [barely used the A/C]. The staff at the Maui Kai was very helpful and also at the maid service [called for extra towels]. Ample close parking. The kids enjoyed the pool. The rental process was simple and smooth. We received our deposit back before we'd returned home. :D

This was our first visit to Maui and we were pleasantly surprised by the Maui Kai Resort facility. We loved the location right on the beach, the unit was clean and felt like home. We also made use of the lovely pool and hot tub on cooler days. We felt secure and the facility was quiet and peaceful. The price per night we felt was higher than we could have paid in other units in the same building and having to pay for cleaning of unit 2 times in a 2 week stay we thought was a bit of a rip off.
Had a wonderful time!!
