A complete and peaceful experience!

We had stayed at the surf and racquet club 17 years ago and we were pleased to find out it was still the best place in Kona to stay while on the island. The development is close enough to retail and grocery shopping, quality restaurants and snorkeling. Most importantly, it is peaceful, relaxing and safe! Condo 5-103 is the last complex and on the edge of the golf course with a double lanai and full views up and down the Kona coast. It had everything we needed during the week we adventured around the island. It was very clean, the kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and anything you would need to spend a day on the beach. Ice chests, ice packs, snorkel gear, towels..I could go on and on. Any questions at all, Penny was very responsive. We will be staying here again when we return, no question! less

5-103

This a bright, clean ground floor unit overlooking the water, view is great especially when whales are present. There are only six dinner plates and no serving plates that I could find. Also the pillows in second bedroom were very flat, had to use two or three for a substantial pillow if that is what you are used to, beach towels are very worn. The building is quiet and grounds well maintained. less

Right on the ocean

A perfect condo for two couples. Well equipped great beds and no stairs. This was our second stay at kona racquet and surf, great location close to town and gated for security. Kim worked with me to ensure all the pre-charges went through on my card so there were no worries when we arrived less

Beautiful sunsets

Really enjoyed our stay. The location of this property is great. With the golf course and close proximity from town of Kona. If you want quiet, clean & comforable check is condo out!

Lovely Home

We had a wonderful time staying at the Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club. The ocean was a stone throw away, a fantastic snorkeling beach was next door, and restaurants and groceries 5 minutes away. The condo is also located at the center of an ancient Hawaiian village, which directly connected us to the history and culture of the Island. The only downfall were a few creepy crawlies that made their way into the kitchen (centipedes) and bathroom (cockroach). But overall, we had a terrific time and would definitely consider this condo when visiting again. Mahalo! less

— Katherine, Stayed 12/04/2019

Beautiful Location

The condo was well equipped and in a beautiful location. Our stay was flawless and everything was well laid out to make our stay as easy as possible. Our only drawback was no air-conditioning as it was extremely hot in Hawaii this year and the normal breeze off the ocean was not enough to cool the condo. This would not have been a problem with normal temperatures but apparently climate change is even affecting Hawaii now. less

Our Stay at Keauhou Surf & Racquet Club

Very well appointed unit. It was great to have snorkel gear, boogie boards, beach towels and beach chairs available for us. The location was fabulous. We would definitely rent this unit again.

— Victoria E Beaupre , Stayed 10/25/2019

Close to everything.

Condo stay was great minus one thing, the bath and beach towels smelled terrible (like sour onions?). During the second day we all noticed we smelled weird after drying off. Discovered the towels were the culprit so we tried washing them (condo has a washer and dryer). After the first wash they still smelled so we washed them again on Hot and extra rinse, didn't work. Its the washer itself that smells awful. I assume guests throw wet towels in the washer upon check out and they sit for a day or two, the dishwasher smelled off as well but nothing like the washing machine. We bought towels at Longs down the street, now on to all the positive things. Condo is close to pretty much everything near Kona, also had a couple coolers we took to the beach everyday so no need to bring one. The condo is in great location on the water, only thing separating you from the water is lava rock. You hear the waves crashing all night, pretty cool, not too loud for you light sleepers. Kitchen was nice, large fridge, all cooking gear you'll need, there were the tiny ants on the countertop in the corner but I heard thats normal in Hawaii. We went with another couple and plenty of room for everyone to not feel cramped in the 2 bed 2 bath place. Theres a couple large plug in fans to utilize if you get hot middle of the night. We didnt need to contact the owners while we stayed and there is a binder that had instructions for pretty much everything. A local guy leaves a farmers market basket for your arrival with fruit and coffee. Like I said, I loved most the location. With a rental car you are close enough to do/see tons. I emailed the owner before writing this to mention the washer but no response. I would probably rent again, even if I had to bring/buy towels. If washer issue got taken care of I would stay here for all future Kona visits. Thats the only reason I gave a 4 instead of 5. Great value as well. less

Owner/Manager Response

thanks for the great review. Just a quick note about the dishwasher and towels; we were having issues with the dishwasher so we replaced it with a new high quality one. Not certain what the problem was with the towels. In the many years of our condo rental, we have never had that issue and it wasn't noticed by the Cleaning person either. Like you mentioned, maybe a previous Guest left wet towels in the washer. Also if the supplied H.D.laundry soap wasn't used, that might contribute to the "off" smell. In any case, no "smell" has been detected before of since. Thanks for your feedback, we always strive to improve our Guests" stay at our condo. K Spitze

Breathtaking view... beautiful accommodations

This condo was just perfect for our time on the Big Island. The unit was immaculately clean, well stocked with anything that might be needed. We loved the king bedroom ocean side view and comfort. It is located close to shopping and restaurants. A great place to relax surrounded by beautiful gardens. We will definitely return! less

Wonderful

We had a wonderful stay at the condo, location amazing, clean and everything we needed was there. Generous amouts of soaps, detergent, kitchen fully stocked and even supplies in the cupboard. We loved our time there, highly recommend it and hope to come again!

— Brigitte, Stayed 08/16/2019

Spectacular view!

The condo was everything we imagined. The ocean view was spectacular and we loved being so close to the water. Although we didn’t cook, we appreciated having everything we could possibly need. We also appreciated the beach gear available for our use – snorkels, masks, fins, beach towels and chairs, boogie boards, ice chests and more. The condo was tastefully decorated, beds were clean and comfortable and the location was convenient to downtown, shopping centers, golf, beaches and local attractions. At times, we missed not having an air conditioner, but there were plenty of fans to keep us comfortable. Since our son and his beautiful new bride live in Kona, we will be returning in the near future, and we’ll definitely re-book this condo/property if available. Mahalo! less

Awesome Location

We had a great time staying in this unit. Location was great, a short drive to restaurants and shopping. Plenty of room, nicely updated and everything you could need for cooking and playing at the beach!

Outstanding setting!

This condo has an amazing setting. It was very comfortable and pleasant. We would love to come back again.

April 7-14, 2019

Everything was as advertised: Clean, right on the ocean, ocean breezes and wave sounds at night, awesome sunsets on the lanai, boogie boards, snorkeling gear, beach towels, bath towels, shampoo, conditioner, body gel, and laundry and dishwasher soap provided, convenient to shopping and restaurants. In short, the unit included all we were looking for in our stay on Hawaii. Why only four stars? The unit directly upstairs was having remodeling work done, which meant we had to endure the sounds of demo day, along with drilling, pounding, power sawing, and other similar loud construction-related noises as the week went on. We realize this is not necessarily the owner's fault, but then again that's part of our vacation we will never get back. less

Wonderful Oceanfront Condo

Owner sent easy to follow instructions on location and how to access the condo. Nice not having to deal with a front desk, just like having a private home. We arrived to find that we even had a reserved parking spot. The grounds of the complex are nicely maintained. When you see how close it is to the ocean there is that “wow” factor. We have stayed at a number of different condos in the past. We found this condo to be well maintained, exceptionally clean and roomy. The interior is tastefully done, not cluttered like so many beach homes. As stated in previous reviews, this condo is well stocked, you don’t have to run out and buy things like beach towels and a cooler to explore the island. We traveled from snow to the Hawaiian weather. There was hesitation to reserve a place with no air conditioning. The week we stayed, there was always air flowing through the condo, it was always comfortable. In fact, on some mornings it was even on the cool side. Having stayed on the other islands many times, we decided to see what the Big Island was like. We wanted to be near the Kona area but not too close due to the spring break crowds. The location of this condo worked out perfectly. The complex looked full during spring break, but this condo located in the last building was very quiet. We had a wonderful week staying on the Big Island of Hawaii at this condo. less

Condo review

Thank you for the use of your lovely town house for our visit to Kona, we were surprised and grateful for the gift basket of fruit and coffee! 👌😀. We were initially concerned about the condo not having air conditioning, but that was not an issue at all! We were also not expecting there to be some food, condiments, spices, cleaning supplies and things in the cupboards & medicine cabinets... that was a very nice added touch. It’s Oceanside location and unobstructed veiw proved to be beyond our expectations! It’s location in regards to town centre was excellent! Thank you once again, we will highly recommend this to our family and friends! less

— Barb Clemens , Stayed 03/11/2019

Great condo!

We had a great time! Appreciated all the condiments and spices, toiletries etc. The condo was spacious and clean and VERY quiet being the end unit. We would recommend though a more comfortable sleeper sofa as my girls slept on it and was pretty uncomfortable but being teenagers they suffered through it. Also, the dresser in the master bedroom is very hard to open- the drawers are squeaky and loud so maybe a different dresser. Thank you for an overall Great unit! less

— Mark, Stayed 02/26/2019

Tropical Decor

Very nicely setup for 2 couples, one king bedroom and one queen bedroom each with their own bathroom. Kitchen was well equipped but a little skimpy on dishes and we cooked most breakfasts and dinners there. Grilling area is out by the parking lot. Quite a walk to the other end of the complex for tennis and pool. Ground floor unit so no stairs and beautiful crashing waves right off the patio. Very private since it is in the last building. Location is primo, we like this quieter location south of Kona. We enjoyed the fruit basket left from the owners organic farm and the tropical decor! less

Wonderful View

My wife, 16 month old daughter, and I stayed at condo 5-103 for a week in the middle of January 2019. Upon arrival our hosts provided us with a fruit and coffee basket from one of the local farms, which was greatly appreciated considering we had arrived at 10pm after having traveled for nearly 24 hours. The views from the lanai, living room, and ocean facing bedroom were amazing and it was so nice to watch the sunset in the evenings. The location on the island was great for our exploration purposes and the shopping center just up the hill was convenient for anything we needed throughout the week. The condo has pretty much anything one would need for their stay (boogie boards, coolers, beach toys, charcoal for grilling, most kitchen utensils and equipment, etc). We had a great visit to the Big Island and Condo 5-103 was a big part in making our stay so enjoyable! Kind regards, Joel less

Keauhou Paradise

We had a wonderful stay at our unit. The view was perfect and might be the best unit I have ever stayed at in Keauhou Surf and Raquet. The windows in back bedroom allowed for more air to sweep through the condo and feel very pleasant at night. I would come come back to this unit the next time I visit Kona. less

Loved the unit

Had a great stay in this tastefully decorated condo. Location and amenities were great. i liked that you left the spices available to renters. Afternoon sun made it challenging to control the temp but only for a few hours till sundown. We also liked the welcome basket, thank you. less

— william, Stayed 09/13/2018

Lived up to our expectations!

Lovely, well-appointed condo. Can watch porpoises from the lanai. Tastefully decorated, but not crowded. Nice that it was fully stocked with condiments & essentials. Really liked the shampoo, conditioner, & liquid soap in the shower. Would have been nice to have body lotion. Nicely furnished with dishes, pans, utensils, & was glad there was a large covered casserole, but would have liked a smaller corningware covered casserole for microwaving & serving vegetables. Also would be nice to have two lounge chairs instead of one as we had two couples staying there. Really appreciated the quick response of the property manager. Overall great value & I'm sure we'll stay again. less

Oceanfront Living

Just wanted to leave a quick note on our stay at condo 5-103 in the Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club. The unit is very spacious and is in a peaceful section of the complex. We were quite happy with all the amenities including the warm and large pool on the premises. The location is great as it is near the Magic Sands beach (kids favorite) and excellent snorkeling just down the road. If your looking for an all around decent spot to spend time on the Big Island you can't really go wrong by staying here. We would definitely go back to this condo if visiting in the future. Thx. less

— Peter, Stayed 08/14/2018

Perfect

We have stayed at KKSR many times though not in this unit. We like the Keauhou location, lovely grounds and oceanfront units. We stayed in this unit for about a week (July 2018) after a longer stay in a different unit. This is now my favorite unit because of its location in building 5. It is beautifully updated and well stocked with beach gear, towels, fan, etc. The welcome basket from Kanalani Ohana Farm was a nice touch. Check-in instructions were easy and there were no problems during our stay. less

— Leslie, Stayed 07/28/2018

Condo clean and well kept

The condo was clean and well kept inside. The lanai could have been cleaner but nothing to deter us from using. We were told there was walking access to the beach and never found it. This is very close to the ocean so there were some nice breezes and the sound of waves was very nice. We had a 2 year old with us and the screen doors did not lock out to the lanai from either room so we had to close doors at night so did not get to take full advantage of the breeze to keep condo cool. This condo does not have air conditioning and can get warm at times. We did use the pool and it was very nice. Could hear footsteps up above by not too bad. I would probably do an upper level next time. less

Owner/Manager Response

Thank you for your review. To reply to some of your comments:  If a Guest, while staying at the condo, has a question or request, it can be taken care of by contacting our local person listed in the Condo (Kevin). Also the information folder in the condo does have much info on the area and condo. For example the local beach (Kaaluua or Turtle beach)  which is  good for swimming, sun bathing on the sandy beach and snorkeling is just a short distance down Alii Dr towards Kona. If you can't find this in our info folder you are welcome to contact our local person. We pride ourselves in keeping the condo in perfect shape, but with many guests sometimes repairs/fixes need to be done, so it is best to call our contact person right away to let him know of any problems. None of the condos at KKSRC have AC but the use of our ceiling fans and mountain breezes usually take care of it.  As a side note, I have stayed at the condo many times for more than a week and, due to the condos location, I usually have not seen or heard one person outside of the condo at night so I never bother to lock the screens, but when you're out during the day please lock the glass sliding doors.Any condo or motel usually has Guests above the first floor (if it is more than one floor) but in my experience this is not a problem at our condo. Furthermore the owner of the condo above does have a posted note for her Guests about being considerate to the Guests below, but remember that staying in a higher floor means walking up the stairs and higher temperatures.Best Regards, Kim

This unit!

I love the KKSR units, as they are my first choice when staying in Kona. This was my first time in Building 5 and was spoiled by staying in Building 1 on a prior visit. Building 5 is awesome! I love the rock wall steps from the patio, unobstructed views of the Kona coast, and the lush golf course on the east side-very peaceful and serene. The unit was spacious, well stocked (love the soap, shampoo, and conditioner provided) and comfortable. We left the screen doors opened at night as the ocean waves crashed onto the shores killing us to sleep. The owner is very attentive to any needs and are extremely accommodating. I would not hesitate to book this condo again. less

Amazing!!

The condo was gorgeous! Had everything needed, from some grocery items to shower supplies (soap/shampoo, hair gel...). Beautifully decorated, with a beautiful view to match. First floor, no stairs to climb! Did get a little warm at times tho. We rented 3 total condos, one on each level. The third level seemed to be the coolest of the three. But 5-103 was def more impressive than the pics showed it to be. Thank u! Piece of advice: to put the key back into the lock box, use the code needed to open it. Took us forever to figure that out! While on vacation, be sure to visit magic sands beach to watch boogie boarders (or to be tossed around by the waves as we were, much fun), hapuna beach to the north (absolutely worth the drive, it’s gorgeous!), the free hula show on Friday up the hill at the shopping center is phenomenal. Grocery store up the hill is somewhat pricey, but not as much as expected. It has a great view! And it has pretty much everything u will need. Def get some hot food from the deli, so good! Note: nearby Walmart DOES NOT have a deli, or produce or fresh meat. Alii marketplace def worth a stop! And get some ice cream there, so good! Hawaii tropical botanical gardens in Hilo, is a sightseeing stop u will never forget! We didn’t get to see the volcano or lava bc it was closed to tourists. But did get to view the lava glow from pahoa. And got to meet and talk to a few local hawaii residents. Loved listening to them. Take time to strike up a conversation! And ask for advice. Hawaii Style Cafe in Waimea had great food. Farmers market there, not so great. Alii marketplace much better. Be sure to find the path to the picnic table and ocean walk, BEFORE the last day. It is so nice, and we never found the way to it till the day we left. Note: bring appropriate tennis shoes, or u will not be allowed to play. And, for families, the resort really needs a playground for little ones and a basketball court for the teens. But, even without it, we enjoyed our stay. We had such a memorable family vacation here. Def recommended for anyone!! less

Great Value for Ocean Front 2BR

The condo is a great value for an ocean front 2BR. I was not aware that there is no air conditioning but wasn't too disappointed (at the price point it makes sense). There are some tropical creatures that share the home with you. My mainland born wife and daughter weren't too enthusiastic about those but myself and my parents accept that as part of living in Hawaii. The fresh produce and coffee left for us in the condo was a very nice touch. I had to read the welcome email a couple times to find the gate & keybox codes. It might be worth bolding/underlining them for future guests. less

Condo 5-103

We had an amazing stay at this condo! It has recently been updated throughout and was very comfortable and clean. The kitchen was well appointed and we were able to make meals at the condo without any issues. There were beach and snorkel items available to use that were in good repair as well. The Surf and Racquet Club is a great resort - well maintained, safe and with nice amenities. We would highly recommend the Surf and Racquet Club as a whole and this was by far the best condo we have stayed in at the resort! We hope to come back soon. less

Great place to stay

Well kept resort. We didn’t use amenities but saw them being used. Condo had everything we wanted. Local farmer left fresh fruit in condo we enjoyed. Liked how close to shopping center, we walked up a couple of evenings for dinner and sunset views at Sam Choys. Our only complaint is we chose a great view condo but on first floor. Noisy walkers above us. Next time we’ll be the noisy walkers! less

— Vicki, Stayed 04/14/2018

Our second stay

We stayed 4 days last week and returned to stay another 4 days this week. It was like coming home - so enjoyed the comfort of this nice condo. No complaints - well stocked and very clean. We spent many hours on the lanai enjoying the ocean - and short walks in the evening along the golf course to see the sunset, The highest in cleaning fees I've ever paid in the Surf and Racquet Club - but enjoyed the gift basket of island fruit, coffee and jellies. less

Wonderful ocean-front condo!

We have stayed at the Keahou Kona Surf and Racquet Club many times before. This condo is the best! Lovely remodel with sea green quartz counter tops, beautifully tiled bathrooms, great washer and dryer, fully stocked kitchen and many condiments available. We spent hours sitting on the lanai watching the ocean and occasionally honored with whale and dolphin sightings (bring your binoculars!) And to mention that the golf course is right behind us - every evening, we joined many other folks along the ocean's edge of the golf course to watch the sunset, mai tai in hand. less

Great place to vacation! Beautiful condo with beautiful sunsets and right on the ocean!

— Kathleen, Stayed 12/09/2017

Wonderful place to stay. Highly recommended.

We really enjoyed our 10 day stay at this condo. The place was roomy, clean, and the decor was well done. It is on the ground floor and the view of the ocean is fantastic. There is no air conditioning, but with the ceiling fans and the ocean breeze it was not needed. The owner left us a big basket of local fruits and avocados which was such a nice surprise. I recently found out that it was recently renovated and it showed. The place was really well done. We did have a minor issue with the hot water that was taken care of immediately. less

Cute condo but wish we knew it was for sale when we rented it

The condo was beautiful and the owners welcomed us with a beautiful gift basket full of local fruit/vegetables. The condo was perfect for just my husband and I. The 2nd room was very musty, but I believe that is because previous guests stowed wet gear in the closet. It would probably be better to have a locker out on the deck for storing gear to prevent guests from ruining the condo and causing mold issues. The only real issue we had with the condo was in regards to us not knowing that it was for sale. Within the first day of our arrival, we had a realtor contacting us asking us when we'd be out of the condo so that he could come by and show it to prospective buyers. I told him I was uncomfortable with that. When you're traveling on vacation, you're often living out of suitcases. You've got so many activities planned you may not want to make the bed every morning. Even after I told him I was uncomfortable with people seeing the condo, he called back later in the week and insisted. The owners contacted us and apologized. They did bring us a bottle of wine (under $10 bottle) for our troubles. Honestly I'd never stay with Aloha Condos again just because we weren't informed the condo was for sale and dealing with showings isn't what I want to deal with when I spend $1,000 for a week rental. less

Mahalo for your reveiew and I am sorry about the misunderstanding.  We tried to be as accomodating as we could. The condo is no longer for sale and we have done a complete remodel from top to bottom.  See the new photos and videos on the website. We expect that you'll love the updates and thank you again for your feedback. Mahalo, Owner Kevin Spitze

Condo 5-103

A dream location. Very private, and very quiet. Views spectacular! What impressed me was the cleanliness of the unit. The furnishings very tropical and comfortable. Well stocked with all you need to make it a super, relaxing vacation. I had the second bedroom which was very private and worked for me. Two things bothered me. A handheld shower would be ideal. The one in there now is not very good. The other is the drapery doesn't completely close, and I read in bed and felt I was on display as people walked by at night. Having all the ceiling fans, and the standing ones made for a very comfortable stay. We had nice Tradewinds every day. No AC required. My daughter used the pool daily, and enjoyed the walk thru the beautiful grounds. The grounds were impeccably kept and the staff very friendly. Away from the hustle and bustle of town was a plus. Thank you for a great experience! less

Can't get much closer to ocean

If you love falling asleep to sounds of the ocean, or just staring at waves crashing on rocks, this is the place! Condo 5-103 at Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club has ground floor access, free parking (even for guests), and lots of BBQ areas. Keauhou is a quiet area but not too far from Kona town. You enter from golf course side to a spacious, well-equipped kitchen/dining/living room, two bedrooms separated by two bathrooms & hallway so you have privacy. Love the gift basket with local fruits, jellies, coffee. Lots of ceiling fans to keep the breezes going (not a problem during our stay but good to know, as Kona can get muggy). The condo was clean, beds and couch all comfortable for relaxing & sleeping. Could use some new towels but not a huge deal for us. We didn't use the TV--not with that compelling ocean view!--so can't comment. The local contact, Ted, came right over when we discovered a leak in the kitchen and, although we were without water for a couple of days, he got it fixed asap and was very diligent. The ocean pathway shown in pictures has been washed out, so it's a difficult walk to beach, but short drive for good, safe swimming/snorkeling at Kahalu'u Beach. There are coolers & plenty water play equipment but if you need prescription or better stuff, you can rent from Miller's on Ali'i Drive. Favorite activities this trip: whale watching from the lanai, farmers' markets, snorkeling at Honaunau, kayaking at Kealakekua Bay (Ehu & Kai were great), and Lava Boat tour. If Pele is active, DO IT. less

Big Island

The condo was very clean. Although it is a older unit it was very well maintained. The location was easy to get into and out of. Location is close to shopping, restaurants and sites. The unit was well equipped with all of the conveniences of home. If we return to Kona I would not hesitate to stay here again. I whole recommend the condo. less

review for condo-5-103 keauhou kona surf/raquet club

Condo was clean and comfortable. Access was as detailed in email. Good to have Ted available if needed. Had an issue with broken shower to bath lever. Broke off in my mom's hand when she took a shower. Needs to be fixed. Location was good, decore was fine, beds very comfortable. Condo was a long walk from parking for my mom. Welcome Basket of fruit & coffee VERY thoughtful. We even visited the farmer's market that weekend. Lovely stay. We'd stay again! less

Thanks for your positive review. However  I would like to clarify about the tub spout problem that you mentioned. Sometimes things need servicing in the best of lodgings and that’s why we have a local Contact person to take care of them. He did replace the tub shower spout (includes the diverter valve) as soon as he could. I’d like to add that the shower handles, tub spout, drain etc were replaced about 3 years ago and haven’t shown any signs of wear or problems lately as observed by my cleaning person, myself and contact person. Otherwise we take great care to replace or repair any of these items to keep as high standards as possible. Aloha, Kim Spitze Owner/Manager

August 2016

My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much. The facility was great. Privacy was great. The place was quiet, except for the sound of the surf - that's a good thing! Access to things to do (snorkeling, walking, Kona, farmers' markets, shopping mall, watching the Pacific from our lanai, etc...) was great. We were pleasantly surprised by the local produce gift basket - which helped get us to the farmer's market at the mall on Saturday morning. The stay was good enough to warrant serious consideration for another stay in this condo. less

Well stocked. Great location!

Very thoughtfully stocked with all the necessities plus the small things (spice rack, etc) that help you feel like home. Good effortless booking and communication. Great location. We hope to be back soon!

Fantastic Oean Views

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed over 4 weeks at this oceanfront condo. The ground floor location was very convenient, since we usually had our arms full when we left on daily trips or excursions around the Big Island, then returned later in the day with even more packages, groceries or other purchases. We found ourselves on the lanai every evening, watching the colorful sunsets, many times with sailboats and/or dolphins in the foreground. Most days commenced with breakfast and coffee on the lanai; the view is quite relaxing and a great way to start a day. The location of the condo complex on the dry, sunny side of the island is convenient for sightseeing, snorkeling, hanging out at the various beaches or driving to the other side of the island (we drove to the Volcanoes National Park, Hilo and beyond multiple times). We hope to return to the Big sland in the future and to rent this condo again. less

Wonderful Week

The four of us enjoyed out week in the condo on the surf at Kona. It was a time of just sitting around and reading and enjoying the world just as it is. Sun or rain, it didn't matter. The surrounding met our needs for peace and quiet. One person read 20 plus books on his kindle; one person met face to face with a monk seal while sitting in the sand a sun at the beach. Another enjoyed walking every morning before the sun got too warm. And the four person read a three inch book on the man of the 20th Century, Churchill. The only thing that could have been better was a night of big waves to crash on the rocks outside and shake the condo. Thanks and hope to see you next year. less

Wonderful location and views.

What a fun place to stay. The views were great and the and the grounds were wonderful to explore. We found 2 blow holes that we didn't know were there. Got great photos and videos. The Keahou Kona Surf and Racquet Club is in a very good location. Kailua Kona is just a short drive and the KTA (grocery store) is only about a quarter mile up the street. We had a wonderful time here and would recommend it to any who want to be away from the tourist crowds, but still close enough to enjoy Kailua. Thank you Kim for sharing your home with us. We will never go the "Resort" route again. This was our first time renting this way and we were pleasantly surprised with the results. Sincerely, Chris and Robin less

Nice place, killer views

We liked the Condo with it's private location, the great view and the grounds with the beautiful landscaping. I am embarrassed to say that I had to have Hank help me turn on the TV in the front room but neither of us were successful in making the bedroom TV work. Could not locate any extra toilet paper in the condo so bought some rolls at the local store. The weather was very hot and humid during our visit alternating with pouring rain, quite the adventure. less

The cleaning person always leaves extra toilet rolls in both bathrooms. The guest bedroom TV was just unplugged-- I guess some of the simplest things are the last to be tried?  The directions for the main TV and Blu ray player are listed on a laminated instruction sheet on the coffee table in the living room. Review of stay

Wonderful unit Best of all we have rented in our twice/yearly trips to Hawaii Charming, clean & comfortable building # 5 has more privacy Heather, local contact was very helpful Would definitely rent this unit again

— Vivian, Stayed 09/13/2015

Excellent stay, exactly as described.

Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club is an excellent place to stay for your Big Island vacation. This is a gated community which appeared secure, maintained to perfection, and had all the amenities one would want on a Hawaiian vacation. This condo is in building 5, which is at THE very end of the complex on the bottom floor, next-to-last unit. During our stay (June 1 to 8th) this building may have had about 3 other families in the 3 story building.....very quiet. Every night was a perfect sunset out on our lanai. The entire unit is completely furnished with every possible thing you need. I felt like I was at home. Coolers, beach chairs, umbrellas, endless supply of towels...fully, fully stocked kitchen. Everything is there. All you supply is food..and the local grocery store is very close. The interior was clean and well maintained. Furnishings showed no signs of wear. King sized bed was very comfortable. We went with another adult couple and the floor plan was perfect...bedrooms and bathrooms could be closed off fairly well to provide privacy so the other couple could move about if the other couple slept in. Fresh fruit was waiting along with a message to call if anything was amiss...it wasn't. The whole unit was big and airy. For those who complained of the wave noise, I personally loved how close the ocean was to our room.... that's why we came to Hawaii! Stay here, you'll be glad you did. I will only make one note, which is NOT a complaint: this complex doesn't have A/C (as with most of Hawaii) in the apartments. In the afternoons you need to open sliding doors and bedroom windows to get a cross breeze going (along with the numerous ceiling fans) to keep the place comfortable. This was only an issue for a few hours in the afternoon. Evenings, nights and mornings were delightful. Also NOT a complaint, but those with disabilities or older...the parking lot with private spot is in front of building 4, not 5. (Building 5 actually has a golf course in front of it ;-))) The walkway is smooth and flat, no steps, but the parking spot is not in front of the door. Again, a reasonably priced, nice place to stay. less

Spacious and Comfortable

Located in well cared for complex, very peaceful. We enjoyed the power of the sea just outside the room and could see whales breeching. Rooms were large and spacious, kitchen facilities great. Would be perfect for larger group having the additional bathroom. Just up the hill was a convenient shopping centre with supermarkets and restaurants, while a half mile down the road a great marine beach park with excellent and easy snorkelling. Car needed to drive into Kona, but quick and easy trip. We used the condo as a base for trips to Place of Refuge, Capt Cook memorial etc.. Owner was good communicator and our stay had no glitches. less

great location, well equipped

Condo is large and well equipped with cooking and eating utensils, towels, lawn chairs, extra linens, even boogie boards and tennis racquets. There was a welcome basket waiting for us stocked with kona coffee and native fruits. The local condo manager was responsive when we had an issue with a blocked drain in one of the sinks. We loved the location, the end unit, with few neighbors and directly on the water. We ate all our meals on the large lanai, looking out at sail boats, racing canoes, and once, a school of dolphins. People with mobility issues should be aware that the unit is a distance from the parking lot, about 100 steps; however, there are no stairs to deal with. The unit is set up well. There are two full bathrooms, and doors are arranged in such a way that a second couple could sleep in the back bedroom and with connecting doors closed, not disturb others. We slept in a comfortable bed right by the ocean, with the sound of the surf through the screen doors leading to the lanai. A minor quibble: the television did not work throughout our stay. The rather complicated operating instructions were missing, and when replaced still did not work, as it seems as though previous guests may have tried to get it operational by switching around cables. We would recommend that the owner invest in a universal remote and get it set up and idiot proof. The WiFi reception however was excellent. Tennis players will be happy to know that the three courts have just been resurfaced and are lovely to play on. They do not appear to be heavily used. Although we played at least once a day, only once was anyone on a neighbouring court. less

Absolutely Perfect!

We stayed in condo 5-103 and the best decision we made of not staying at a resort! The booking and checkin was perfectly smooth. We reached the condo in the night and after long flight it was soothing and calming to sleep at the sounds of ocean waves. Next morning we were treated with unbeatable ocean views! Everyday We loved waking up at the sound of chirping birds and views of calm ocean sea's from the bed and sleeping at the lullaby of ocean waves! After a busy day touring around the island, nothing was more relaxing than coming to the condo and sitting in lanai watching shooting stars and the moonlight reflecting in ocean. So serene and so peaceful! After a visit to mauna kea observatory, we even enjoyed setting up telescope and watching night skies and moon. Mornings were fun seeing people swimming, kayaking in ocean. We even spotted a spinner dolphin one morning! All fun just sitting in your lanai. Just few steps near golf course were 2 blowholes! it was fun seeing the water gush out! The condo was very well equipped with everything you will need on a beach vacation! towel, chairs, boogie boards, water shoes, beach toys, umbrella, snorkeling gear, telescope ..u name it! we had fun snorkeling at the nearby beach Kahaluu beach and saw lots of corals and fishes! Boogie boarding at nearby beaches was even more fun! Needless to say , the condo made our perfect vacation even more perfect. less

What a view and the owner provided just about everything you could ever imagine needing!

Owner truly has thought of everything, so much so that closet space is limited. Many very interesting books on the island were available to customize your own vacation experience and knowledge of the area. Color scheme was somewhat patchwork but comfortable. Floors and showers could have been cleaner. We arrived after dark and the porchlight was out making it necessary to find another tenant with a light, so we could see to enter code and collect keys. Local contact person never responded to my initial questions via email upon arrival nor throughout our whole 6 night stay. We had a great time though watching the crashing waves and the stars from the lanai. For those with limited mobility it is a bit of a hike from the parking lot, somewhat spooky at night if you are alone. less

Owner/Manager Response

While we do appreciate the many great reviews we have received over the years but it is at times necessary to either take care of issues that a guest may mention or to try to clear up any misunderstanding that may occur. With this is mind, I'd like to address some of the points mentioned below in this review: we do have a lot of recreational equipment. beach accessories and the like but they are stored in the larger second bedroom closet and we did make sure there is plenty of room for the guest's clothes, suitcases etc; color scheme; the condo is decorated in a tropical motif but might not be to every bodies liking but we feel it is suitable to the beautiful tropical surroundings; at the last minute (the night before) this guest asked to check in 2 days before their scheduled booked stay, and as a result the cleaning person had to come to the condo early of the morning of the new check in time. She did clean the condo for 4 hours and that was verified by my condo contact person; the outside porch light is always left on just in case of a night time arrival but the light bulb may have burned out; my contact person did not receive any email from the guest. Despite that, if a guest needs to contact a local person, the phone number (& email address) is plainly listed in the condo (& in emails concerning their stay) along with the maids number, complex manager's number and my number if all else fails; the condo is only about 200 feet from the well lighted parking lot if you enter via the lanai entrance & not much further entering through the front door. Plus the condo is located a very secure gated community with almost no history of any kind of problem. Hope this helps. Mahalo, Kim Spitze condo Manager.

Great rental, beautiful location and grounds!

This is a very comfortable rental, beautiful location, and the grounds of the Surf and Racquet Club are gorgeous! The best thing about this rental (other than location) is that it is stocked with everything you'll need for your stay-- beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, umbrella, linens. The welcome basket was a very nice touch! I would definitely stay here again! less

Excellent value for the Big Island

Two adults, 80 year old grandma and a 15 year old son stayed in unit 5-103 for 7 nights in late Oct 2013 and it worked brilliantly. This ground floor unit is feet away from the ocean. If you are into hearing the ocean, sleeping in the master bedroom was like camping on the beach. Here are the good points: - Extremely quiet. The place is almost secluded. We had one neighbor the whole time we were there and never heard anything from anyone. The unit is at the end of the complex and the golf course next door is currently closed. We felt like we had complete privacy on our Lanai. - Clean and no bugs. We did have the cutest little frog hopping around the living room one morning, but no insects of any kind. There are no mosquitos on this part of the island, at least while we were there. We had the huge sliding doors open all the time we were there, including all night long and never saw an insect of any kind. Note that birds will fly in the open doors and hop around in the living room :) - Relatively cool. The sea breeze seems to be widely variable up and down the coast. We always had a nice breeze and the unit was never uncomfortably warm. - Great lanai. With this ground floor unit there is a huge space for the whole family to lounge around with a nice table for eating and a couple of lounge chairs for serious relaxation. - Well stocked. You'll find basics like ketchup, mustard and dozens of other staple items already in the fridge. Good cooking tools and appliances. Saved us a couple hundred dollars at least. Welcome basket stuffed with all kinds of tropical fruits from a local organic farm. We enjoyed trying them all out. Guava, Passion Fruit, Papaya, etc. Free Kona coffee. Lots of snorkel gear and beach furniture you can use. - Location. A little bit farther from the Kona strip than some, but we liked it just fine. Many of the best snorkeling spots are south and that was very convenient. The only negative for us was the master bed - it was tired and saggy. less

Bucket List Trip for Mom

This condo was a great find! My 71 year old mom has cancer and is about to start chemo and a stem cell transplant. What better reason to go see a place that she has dreamed of, but never visited. The affordable price and comfortable amenities made it possible. We pulled the kiddo from school and the second bedroom was perfect for us while mom enjoyed the ocean view room. After three flights and a full day of travel, it was nice to have the welcome basket of fruit and coffee to get us started. The shopping center was handy and we were surprised by the great snorkeling nearby! Being able to travel light was a blessing! The condo had so many extras that enhanced our stay including snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, beach chairs, and ice chest! Also, being able to wash clothes in the new washer and dryer was tops! We loved the lanai and the pretty views and ocean breezes! Our flight home was cancelled and we really wished we had another day at the condo instead of the resort in town. Thanks for helping my mom (and all of us) get ready for challenges ahead. Bucket list trip... a huge success! less

Grandkids Summer Week in Hawaii

Everything you can think of for Fun in the Sun is provided; snorkel gear, Beach Towels, Cooler, Umbrellas, etc., etc. Even boogie boards!! The Condo was a marvelous home base for our Family of 7, it is very nicely furnished w/o being too fancy. I did not have to worry about the kids putting a cup on some expensive wood table, everything had glass tops, great! All amenities were in very good order and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Was a bit concerned about "no aircond." but the breeze blowing through the unit along with the Fans handled it beautifully! The location of the unit was nice, very quiet, watched Spinner Dolphins from the Lanai a couple of mornings. Ample room, inside and out, and enough chairs for everyone! Only negative would be the Sofa Bed Fold out. Decided that it was a lot nicer to just sleep on the Sofa and forget the fold out...which worked very well. less

Lovely view, nice resort, condo a bit 'tired'

Our family (2 adults, 2 children, 1 grandma) stayed at this easy to find unit, well located for exploring the Kona side of Hawaii. The resort had a nice pool and lovely grounds. This ground floor condo lacks privacy in the master and lounge, with sliding doors directly onto the lanai; both sliding screens to both doors were rickety and almost off their tracks and could not be locked, hence it was hot in the condo at night. Lack of aircond (which we don't mind) means the ceiling fans are permanently on - given the low ceiling height, one has to be careful. Little overhead lighting in the condo (lots of lamps however) made reading and dressing, packing etc at night quite challenging. The second bedroom window was almost impossible to open, with torn flyscreens and tired curtains. The lighting in this room was particularly poor, with only one dull lamp and tiny wall-mounted tiny spotlight. Night in this room was certainly a challenge. Both bathrooms were 'tired', with peeling paint and an almost unclean air, although they were clean. The kitchen utensils, crockery etc were mismatched and sticky, which necessitated us washing everything before use in the ancient dishwasher. The cupboard doors were sticky; we cleaned these and noted all the cockroach baits in the cupboards. The fridge made a horrendous noise. We did, however, find the equipment we needed to self-cater. On the whole we felt the unit needed a good makeover and repaint/refit in bathrooms, the second bedroom and kitchen. Kim, the owner, provided info for the unit; a welcome fruit basket was a nice touch, and his agent left a message welcoming us; the unit was well equipped and homely (no boogie boards however, and a clothes horse would be useful given there is nowhere to hang wet beach towels except over the lanai chairs), but it just did not compare with the other properties we chose for our three weeks in the Hawaiian islands. The view and the location was great. less

Owner/Manager Response

Normally if I know of any problems with my condo I will take steps to take care of them promptly. I do have local people to take care of these things. However I believe most items mentioned are not compatible with what I know and with feedback I've received from my Contact person and other reviews. So with that in mind I would like to address the issues mentioned. Also I have talked to my Contact person, Allen, about these issues and he has reported to me the state of the condo and the items mentioned in the review after these Guests left, (which is what he normally does between Guests). My condo's building, as the end building in the gated complex, is very private with very little foot traffic anywhere near my unit; the screen doors do in fact move OK and they do lock; I do have 6 boogie boards (in the second bedroom closet); I have 3 lamps in the second bedroom; the bug screens are not damaged and there is a large window that is easy to move and with curtains that are only 3 1/2 years old--how much more light is necessary? The condo was built in the early 80s but is kept up really well and in near perfect condition, (many other reviews have stated how nice it is); there is some peeling paint about the size of a quarter at the top of the wall in the second bathroom tub enclosure and I will have that touched up soon; the newer refrigerator is not noticeably noisy to myself or others that I have talked to; the dishwasher is about 6-7 years old and is good condition (how many people replace appliances that are working well and that new?); Hawaii is a tropical location thus bugs are more of an issue that found in non-tropical areas, that is why some bug traps can be seen in some areas in the condo. Also the condo is sprayed for bugs on the inside once a month and on the outside every 3 months, and as a result, fewer bugs are seen in and around the condo than in other homes/condos on the island; no AC units are allowed in the condos in the complex. However between the ceiling fans and the breeze coming through the condo when the windows are open, it is very pleasant in my opinion; the condo ceilings are a normal 8 foot height as dictated by the construction at the time. Most of the ceiling fans are over tables or beds and those that aren't are not so low as to be a collision hazard--I'm 6'1" and have never had an issue with that; my cleaning person is very thorough and my contact person also checks her work, so if something is amiss then it is dealt with immediately; it is stated in the guide that wet beach towels are not supposed to be hung up but shaken off and dried in my clothes dryer. They are especially not supposed to be hung to dry in my condo; my condo has many lamps and lights in all the rooms and lighting has never been an issue with myself or others. Even though this review received 4 stars, I do not understand most of the comments with many being incorrect, but suggest anybody reading this go to other reviews posted below. Exxcellent

Booked online and recived plenty of emails regarding billing and directions from the airport. On arrival the instructions were clear on how to enter the gated resort of the Surf and Racquet Club. Entering the house we were awe struck with the size and facilities of the condo. The Owners kindly had local fruit and coffee out for us to sample - delicious! Up the road is a supermarket, which we raided for food and alcohol on the first day. The owners resort representative turned up to say hello and ask us if we had any needs/issues, which was good as well. Facilities in the condo were excellent, new laundry equipment, large fridge/freezer, dish washer, and wireless internet. I would happily stay at this condo again if (when!) were turn to Hawaii. That said, we did mainly use this place as a base camp for heading out all over the island. If you plan to just stay in the and around condo/resort, I would recommend a condo which is raised up off the ground floor - a better veiw of the ocean that way! less

This is a very enjoyable, well equipped condo in a great locatio

Waves crashing, kayaks galore, ships in view, and dolphins jumping; we loved the view from the lanai. This condo is well equipped with everything we needed and more. We also enjoyed the swimming pool every evening after our daily activities of shopping, dining, and diving/snorkeling with manta-rays and turtles. Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club Condo 5-103

Wonderful ocean front condo next to a golf course. Master bedroom, guest bedroom with 2 single beds, dining area, living room, full kitchen. Lots of space including outdoor lanai. You can't swim out front as the "beach" is a stack of lava chunks but there are beaches close by or a pool in the complex. Fans are used to cool the unit and as it is on the ground floor, the units above tend to insulate it. Parking is close by the side of the 12 plex unit. The owner was very pleasant and easy to deal with. There are a couple of blowholes 100 yards south that are easily accessible. You can get very close to them, close enough to get soaked! less

Great Sunset Views, Fantastic Condo

We loved every aspect of this condo for our four-night stay. There was a welcome basket with some fruit and Kona coffee, both of which we enjoyed. The local contact person was quite friendly and responsive to our phone questions. The kitchen had the pots-n-pans and dinnerware we needed for our meals. On the ocean-facing lanai we enjoyed extended breakfasts and amazing sunset views. Overall we had a fantastic time in this condo. less

Great family holiday

Excellent location and facilities. Appreciated the use of snorkelling gear and swimming pool. Fabulous spot to watch the sun go down over the ocean. Would love to return.

Good view, Good supplies, Good location, but 1 soft mattress

I loved this place. The condo itself has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and 2 TVs. I really appreciated the many tools, kitchenware, and household supplies that were available. The floor plan made me feel like I was living in a house. And the large patio had fans and lights. And the fruit basket with a coffee sampling was a nice gift! less

Big Island 5-103

Location, location, location. Hey...it's everything. And this condo has a wonderful location. Incredible sunsets, whale watching, boats, paddlers, surf, and so very quiet, except for the surf, which lulls you to sleep. The unit is quite nicely appointed with almost everything you would need, and for the most part is quite comfortable. I do feel as if the living room furniture is getting a bit tired, but considering the location... Additionally, the closest grill is on the far side of the parking lot, which is already a bit removed from the front door. But, with drink in hand we managed. The condo complex is very conveniently located with grocery and shopping very close by, and downtown Kona is only a 15 minute drive, or trolley ride away. In summary...we really enjoyed it. less

Owner/Manager Response

I do appreciate the many positives from all the reviews and am always looking for ways to improve my service and help my guests. With this in mind, I'd like to make a suggestion about doing BBQs. The KKSRC complex does not allow individual home owners to have BBQs at their units. However, they have placed grills near all the buildings (e.g. at the end of my parking lot) and they have built a large beautifully landscaped and well equipped covered BBQ complex just my side of the tennis courts, an easy walk. It has 2 separate grills, water & sink and a grass covered volleyball court next to it. After a day of deep sea fishing, I have gathered there many times with family and friends for fresh caught BBQ'd ocean delicacies--really a beautiful place for a BBQ. As far as the living room furniture goes, there is a large couch but it is in excellent condition and it has a queen size pull out bed built into it, so would prefer not to have to replace it in the near future. Girls Getaway

The condo was very clean and when I went to the kitchen there was a gift basket full of island fruits, coffee etc. The note in the basket gave us the name and contact number if we had any problems at the condo. What a nice surprise. Beds are very comfortable. The area is very quiet where the condo is situated except for the waves hitting the shore at night can be very loud. The condo is very close to the ocean so if you are a light sleeper I would not recommend staying here. All I can say is us girls had a wonderful time. less

Owner/Manager Response

Please note that the ocean waves can be louder during stormy weather it is near the condo or out to sea. Normally (nearly all the time), the wave sound is just a soothing gentle lapping against the rocks. Please see other guest comments on how they loved the ocean sounds while at my condo. Awesome Christmas vacation 2011

We were a family of seven adults for ten days. Awesome location and ample space for this many adults. Condo was very well stocked with all we needed from kitchen items to sheets and towels. Really great to have beach towels. New red LG washer and dryer in unit was fabulous! Really great to be able to walk outside and enjoy the waves beating against the rocks, watching the dolphins and people in the water and the sunset was to die for. A car is needed to go anywhere, A small wall was close by with a grocery store, drug store and various small eating places. The quietness of the area was very peaceful and easy to get to the pool and small Beacjh within walking distance. We really have no complaints about this unit and will highly recommend it to our friends and will stay there again if we return to Kona. less

Great Vacation!

This was our 6th vacation in Hawaii though our first time on the "Big Island." We couldn't have asked for a better resort/condo to stay. Will definitely stay here again on a return trip (Loved Kona). This condo is ocean-front with a view that doesn't disappoint. Condo supplied with all items necessary for a good time. I didn't notice anything the owners missed. Thanks for the tennis rackets and free parking! We stayed 16 days and wished we'd booked a month. Thanks to Kim, Alan, and alberto. Matt & Julie Horstman, Mount Shasta, Ca less

Beautiful Sunsets - can't beat the value

Great value in Kona at this condo. The owner is very responsive to email, and willing to address any concerns you may have. They left a beautiful fruit basket for us to welcome us to the island. Beach toys in good shape at the unit. The kitchen is in adequate shape, with BBQs available on site, and a KTA grocery with excellent meats and great deals on fresh fish just up the hill. Beautiful sunsets from this unit, and you occaisionally will see dolphins playing outside. Always see outriggers practicing in the morning, and I'm sure you will have whales in season. The one complaint about the unit is the thickness of the ceiling where you can hear the people in the unit above walking around...but otherwise the value for a 2 bedroom with ocean view is incredible! less

Owner/Manager Response

As the Owner of the condo, I have never noticed any unusual (or any for that matter) walking noise from people above my unit and have never received any feedback from other guests concerning this. However, I'm sure it is possible from time to time to notice this, but this is normal for any condo, hotel or motel that has a unit above. I'm sure the advantage of a ground floor unit far exceeds an occasional walking noise from above. If you notice any unusual and/or extended noises, please call my Contact Person or the Surf & Racquet Club residence manager, (numbers are listed in my condo). From start to finish the service was incredible. We were informed in advance what was expected of us, given directions, access codes and charges. When we arrived we were greeted with fresh fruit, jams, and coffee for the next morning. So we watched the sunset. The condo was on the shoreline, tidy, clean and spacious, filled with all the amenities of home with some bonus toys for snorkeling, beaching or just hanging out. Located a short walk from a shopping center. Car rental mandatory to see the diversity of the island but nice to come back to a quiet, clean condo to watch the sunset . less

This place is a gem!

We were spoiled with a marvelous week looking out over the Pacific (including seeing whales) from our lanai with sunsets to die for and the mesmerizing sound of the the surf. 5-103 was truly a splendid "home" where we found every amenity to enhance our stay. Great sunsets and whale watching from the Lanai.

My wife and I and our friends had a great time. The condo was comfortable and affordable. There was boogie boards and snorkel equipment in the condo for your use. We were able to relax on the lanai and watch as the sunset goes down and the whales played. The Owner was extremely helpful throughout the process. I would highly recommend this condo to anybody that wishes to come to the Big Island less

Great location for Ocean Views

Large roomy condo with great location for ocean viewing. There is no beach access since the shoreline here is large lava boulders and cliffs. There is a great State Park beach just minutes away for swimming, snorkeling, sunning, etc.

Owner/Manager Response

My web page does indicate what the area in front of my condo looks like. The big advantage of no sand beach in front of the condo's lanai is that you will have more privacy, and the only noise you will hear will be the gentle pounding of the surf on the rocks. In addition, just about 100 yards to the left of the condo, at the edge of the golf course, you can find a natural lava blow hole. So all told, I feel it is an advantage not to have to deal with all the foot traffic, potential problems and noise a condo front sand beach would bring. My condo is uniquely located by being surrounded by the golf course and ocean to allow for maximum privacy, relaxation and great views of the ocean, sea life and cruise ships as they come and go from the distant town of Kailua-Kona. As mentioned in this review, there is a nearly by sand beach about a 10 minute walk away that has some of the best snorkeling etc for miles in any direction. To learn more about my condo and the area, please feel free to read other past Guest's opinions included in this review section. Mahalo, Kim Spitze. Owner Condo 5-103

Great value and wonderful views!

We rented this condo the last 2 weeks of January. This was a time of very high waves and it was amazing to see them crashing against the sea wall...right by our condo. This condo was squeaky clean and nicely furnished. A real bargain for the price. We were treated very well by the owner...he kept in touch with us the entire trip to make sure we were happy. The condo is close to the town of Kona and very close to a nearby shopping center. A very convenient location to go both directions...to the volcano and to tour the "high rent" hotels. We had been in this condo community previously and would stay there again. Mahalo for sharing your great place! less

Fantastic! The best vacation!!

It was probably the best vacation we've had in ages!!! The condo was spacious, which was great as we have three teenagers, and we didn't feel like we were falling over each other. I absolutely adored the sound of the ocean at nights and sitting on the lanai very early in the morning having breakfast. We were within short walking distance to Kahaluu Beach Park as we loved the snorkeling there and it was great being provided with boogie boards and snorkel gear so we didn't have to buy those items. Shopping was close by too. With all the fabulous beaches and exciting things to do, we regrettably ran out of time to try out the tennis courts. Our only complaint is that our time was too short there and we can only dream of getting back as soon as possible! less

Nice condo with extras

Spacious 2 bedroom condo directly at the ocean, only the sand beach is missing in front of the door. But nice beach close by. We found a lot of extras (cooler, snorkel gear, boogie boards, ...) in the closets that made our stay very comfortable. Kitchen fully equipped. Grocery store and restaurants nearby. Pool and barbecues available, but we never used it. less

Great location and amenities

We really appreciated the waterfront view and ground floor location. There were lots of water "toys" for us to use. The grounds were lovely, lots of birds and flowers. The ancient ruins on the site were a bonus. The proximity to Kahaluu Beach was great for snorkeling. The kitchen was a little dated and the smell from the sink was not good. The gift basket for the first morning was really appreciated. less

Owner/Manager Response

As the Owner of the condo, I always make sure it is in top condition for my guests. The condo is checked by my contact person and cleaned for 3-4 hours by the cleaning person upon guest departure, and is additionally checked again before the next guest arrives. If anything is not perfect, out of place, smells bad etc it will be detected before the next guest arrives. Contacting my cleaning person and contact person did confirm these facts. Sometimes it is possible, while a guest is staying at the condo that things may happen to cause something to be not be quite right. For this reason, I have paid a local contact person to always be available by phone for the guests to take care of any problems that may arise. Please contact this person, whose name and contact number is listed in the condo, and is additionally sent by email to my guests before arrival, if any problems should arise. I'm not sure what" dated" Kitchen refers to, but I can state that the kitchen has been recently updated to include all new major and small appliances, resealed kitchen cabinets, a new state-of -the -art brushed nickel sink faucet, paint etc. The kitchen counter top is tile and not granite, so maybe this is "dated" to some people. However I do know that the kitchens in many new homes on the mainland are still installed with tile. Also, please keep in mind the kitchen photo on the web site in older (October 2009) and does not reflect the current state (many updates in April 2010). Aloha, Kim Spitze

Great place to stay on the Big Island!

My wife, three daughters, and I stayed in KKSRC Condo 5-103 for a week in April and would definitely stay here again on a future visit. With the off-season rate, we were able to stay in this beautiful, 2 Br oceanside condo for little more than a room in a typical chain hotel on the mainland. The condo was clean and comfortable with beds for 3 people in the second bedroom (fifth person didn't have to stay on a hide-a-bed). The unit is ground floor and right next to the ocean. We ate our meals at the table on the lanai to the sound of waves crashing on the rocks. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed for the cooking we did. A gift basket from a local vendor was a nice touch. The condo includes coolers for your day trips, beach chairs and towels, a couple boogie boards, a couple sets of snorkeling gear - we pretty much just had to provide food. The condo is just a minute or two away from a shopping center with a grocery and a drug store, which is very convenient. Also, it is located just a minute from Kahaluu Beach Park, which has great snorkeling. We saw more variety of fish here than on our snorkeling expedition. Communication from the owners was great, from clear information regarding billing and policies to the instructions for getting into the unit. As I said in the title, a great place to stay on the big island. less

Fabulous View

This has to be one of the best views on the Kona coast for a very reasonable price. The owner has gone to great lengths to offer amenities for the guests, providing beach towels, snorkels, tennis rackets, boogie boards and more. No longer do we have to stuff these toys in our luggage. The condo is well furnished, even with a washer and dryer and excellently maintained. Everything worked. We especially enjoyed the lanai where we ate our meals with the million-dollar view. We will be back!!! less

beautiful setting

Condo 5-103 was a wonderful experience. It was well equipped with many needed items such as beach equipment, dishes, towels, etc. and had 3 TV's as well as great wireless internet. The only thing preventing me from rating it 5 stars is the dated condition of some of the condo. The second bathroom needed some work, the kitchen was a little dated, we had issues with the vertical blinds. However, it was clean and well stocked, as well as having an excellent location so we over-looked those minor issues. All in all I would very much recommend this condo to others. less

Owner/Manager Response

We are always trying to keep our condo in the best condition possible for our guests. So per some suggestions, just did some renovations to the condo that have included some updates to the kitchen, including a new ceramic top range. I have also installed new easy to use bamboo blinds for the master bedroom and living room and added a paddle style ceiling fan/light in the lanai, plus many other fixes and improvements (including a spotting scope for the guest's enjoyment). Thank you to all the guests for your feedback and all the great reviews! Kim Spitze condo owner

A home away from home in paradise

Absolutely perfect! The condo was COMPLETELY stocked and in a most private location. The grounds staff was so helpful and kind and did a great job keeping everything lush and beautiful. The condo was so inviting and comfortable for our family (3 adults & 3 young children). But it would also make a very romantic escape, minus the kids. We rarely return to the same place twice so that we can experience new places. This is one exception. With out a doubt we would go back again and again. Listening to the surf lull you to sleep and watching whales from the lanai were just two of the many incredible things we enjoyed here. They had everything you would at home from beach and snorkel gear to office supplies and laundry dryer sheets, it's all here! We really appreciated the welcome basket, it was nice to have local farmers market items like fresh fruits and muffins to hold us over until we could get to the store. If you are considering staying here, go for it, you won't be disappointed. Check out the blowholes along the shore just a minute walk towards the golf course, during high tide the water really shoots up! less

Holiday 2009

It was a very pleasant experience in condo 5-103. The rental process was realy easy. As we were commimg from Austria which means a 20 hour flight, it was important for us to find everything perfect immediately, and it was. . Very clean, comfortable, spacious, and well equipped. The only noise you get to hear are the ocean waves breaking just a few meters away. Even with three children age 12,12 and 16 the condo offered enough space. The swimming pool was very nice and the nearby snorkelbeach was perfect. We highly recommend this condo. good value, clean unit

We stayed for two nights in this very nice end unit with the ocean just across the walkway. It's a bit out of town and the parking is about 75 yards from the door, but it easily accomodated two couples, was nice and clean, and the management company was most helpful. There was somebody parking in our parking space when we arrived, but they took care of it right away and we had no other problems at all. We did not use the tennis courts, but they looked as if they were well maintained. I would not hesitate to recommend this place. less
