Great Find

It was super easy working with the host. The condo had everything we needed for the beach and snorkeling. We would definitely stay here again.

Kanaloa #1604

We stayed at condo#1604 for 5 nights, the condo was totally renovated all new appliances including remote ceiling fans. The kitchen was well stocked with all your cooking utensils and Richard the owner greeted us with a welcome basket, a very nice touch. The view at this condo was fantastic you can see the golf course and ocean views you can even hear the waves crashing, love this place, will come back in a heartbeat!! less

Condo 1603 at Kanaloa at Kona

1603 definitely as the WOW factor, the nicest Holiday condo we have ever stayed at, the best view off the Lanai overlooking the ocean and golf course you could wish for. The unit was very clean and comfortable, the kitchen had every appliance and utensil you could wish for. The complex was well maintained, staff friendly and helpful. less

Great Condo an Locati

Great location, clean, everything updated. Condo included extras for beach including chairs, umbrella, cooler, towels everything needed. Multiple Pools at resort were very nice. Owner was very accommodating and responded quickly with any questions we had. Highly recommend, great value.

Nice!

Nice clean condo with beautiful sunset views over the ocean and golf course. Fully stocked with plenty of cookware, blender, etc. Was also happy to find some spices, oils, foil, paper plates and some condiments (we've stayed other places where those items are removed after each stay). The small ice chest and beach chairs came in handy and even some snorkel gear and tennis rackets. AC would have been nice but the fans do work pretty well. The property is nice maybe a little dated but maintained. less

We will return!

We have not been to Hawaii in over 12 years. Goodness were we fortunate in selecting Kanaloa. The unit was perfect for a couple. Well appointed kitchen, large bedroom and master bathroom, washer dryer which included detergent(!!!), and a large lanai with a beautiful view, and very clean. We were relaxed and content. Never have we received a “welcome basket” in the 40+ years we have visited Hawaii. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will return! less

Our stay in Kanaloa

The condo was very nice. We loved the area and enjoyed our stay. Not having air conditioning was not horrible but would have nice. I would stay there again. Hotels are not worth the money, but this condo was.

— William, Stayed 08/12/2023

Beautiful Condo

This one bedroom two bath condo was very well equipped and in pristine condition. The view from I was of the ocean, straight over part of the golf course. The owner has provided everything you need, including a well equipped kitchen and beach chairs, mass, boogie boards, etc. I would definitely stay here again. less

Good Location - Fantastic Ocean Views

My wife and I enjoyed 7 nights in Kanaloa at Kona #1603. The condo was exactly as advertised, clean and with a well equipped kitchen. The bed was very comfortable, not too soft or firm. The views from the lanai are fantastic - the ocean looking left and a golf course looking right. The location of the condo complex is close to beaches, shopping and restaurants. It is also located about in the middle of the Kona coast, which makes visiting various sites along the coast convenient. It is also very close to a harbor that snorkeling and night Manta Ray tours depart from. We highly recommend this condo. less

Beautiful views

The condo was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. The view from the lanai was stunning. We spent almost every evening watching the sun set, watching the golfers and even saw a family of whales pass by. Communication with the owner and staff was helpful and timely. We had a lovely time! less

Great Condo, but fair warning.. no AC in this unit

We visited in September and didn’t realize there was no air conditioning in this unit….(there were ceiling fans and, most helpful to allow us to sleep, two pretty small but powerful fans)..lesson learned to inquire about that next time! :( …Still giving a “5” star because the condo provided everything else that was needed for a wonderful stay. The king bed was super comfortable. The master had a HUGE area to shower with double shower heads. There was plenty of room to store/hang our clothes. The kitchen was stocked with every possible need (plates, pots/pans, cups, insulated mug…just to name a small portion of items provided), and we had all that we needed when we went for a beach day (chairs, umbrella, snorkel gear, sand mats). To top off the fully stocked condo… the VIEWS WERE PHENOMENAL and the condo “grounds” (can walk off of the golf course along the ocean to watch the beautiful waves crashing against the rocky shore) and pools were absolutely beautiful. I’ve only noted the information about the absence of AC because I didn’t see this information in the VRBO listing (may have been there… I just didn’t remember seeing this information). A cool shower each evening, sliders open in the living and bed rooms, and the fans did allow for a good night’s rest. less

Beautiful Unit

This condo looks as lovely in person as the photos show. It’s has all the amenities you need plus great views, centrally located for exploring the sites on the Island and visits to town. The use of the development’s 3 pools is a bonus. My husband and I look forward to visiting again. And our friends will be booking too. less

Best family vacation

This condo was a dream vacation for us. Every night we enjoyed the best sunset... all the colors glistening on the waves straight from our lanai. Condo is very clean and well kept. Beds are super comfortable. We are family of 3 and our son had a very comfortable murphy bed (wall unit that we put away during the day..super easy). Kitchen is very well setup for cooking multiple nights at the condo. Condo also had good beach chairs and umbrella. Even though we were there in hot and humid time, condo has ceiling fans plus the ocean air from lanai made the temp perfect. There are some decent eateries, good grocery anda lovely book store plus other shops walking distance. Keauhou bay is walking distance too...they have fun manta ray tours and snorkeling tours right from Keauhou bay. We enjoyed golfing with the ocean views and it was so convenient to walk to the country club. Last but not least Richard and Gayle are the most generous hosts. We had an artisan packet with local fruits, coffee and treats waiting for us when we checked in. Checkout is at 11am and we had a late flight out of Kona, but Richard and Gayle let us stay till evening without additional cost. It felt like we are staying at a family's condo. We highly recommend staying at Richard and Gayle's condo if you are in Kona. less

Wonderful place to stay! Great location. The rooms were spacious…..Beds were so comfortable. We loved the Lanai with beautiful view of golf course & ocean. We highly recommend & we will definitely be back next year! Thx Richard for your wonderful recommendations!

Outstanding end to our trip!

The condo was clean, well furnished and was in a nice quiet area with beautiful views. Perfect place for our small family of four.

Ranks with the Very Best

The Kanaloa Condos are located in one of Kona's best locations. Secluded in a quiet area surrounded by the beautiful Kona Country Club Golf Course and the South Pacific Sea. Condo 1603 has one of the best ocean and sunset views in the complex with a nice refreshing ocean breeze. The Condo was equipped with everything you'd have if this was home: nicely furnished, full kitchen stocked with everything; Beach Chairs and other beach items for all of those close by beaches, etc. Well done Richard and Gayle. You were super hosts and we had a fun 43rd Anniversary Week in your lovely Condo. less

Perfection

We absolutely love this condo!! It had everything you could ask for and more. Amazing location, GORGEOUS sunsets on the lanai, sound of the waves in the rocks, friendly and helpful staff, well stocked kitchen, beautiful property and thoughtful welcome basket! Richard and Gayle were so wonderful and welcoming and have done a great job as hosts. We LOVED the Big Island and really hope to come back and stay again soon!!! less

Great, as always

This was our 2nd stay in #1603 and our 15th or so at Kanaloa. Whenever we visit the big island, Kanaloa is our choice for easy living. We've been here with our family and (like the last two visits) on our own. Two of our sons & wives included stays at Kanaloa while on their honeymoons too. Richard is a very welcoming host, assuring that all amenities necessary for your home away from home are provided. This unit is particularly well situated and very well maintained. Five stars for sure. less

Outstanding Kona Condo

What a wonderful condo! Such a beautiful setting with amazing views of the ocean. Very comfortable and spacious condo, thoughtfully equipped with everything you need, including beach chairs and a coffee grinder for that marvelous, local, Kona coffee! The condo is in a lovely, quiet community that is in walking (and very easy driving) distance to restaurants, groceries and shopping. Also a good location for exploring the towns of Kona and Captain Cook, and for nearby snorkeling at Kealakekua Bay. Plan for about a 40 minute ride to/from the airport and a little more for the resort areas of the Northwest coast and beautiful Hapuna Beach. We especially enjoyed sitting on the deck, listening to the surf and watching the sunset! We wish we could have stayed longer than 5 nights! We highly recommend this lovely condo and hope to return next year. less

Can't go wrong staying here

Really enjoyed my time staying at this condo. It was me my wife and my daughter. A Murphy bed made into a nice room for my daughter. The view and the sunset makes the place. It overlooks the 12th hole at Kona country club which made it easy to play with the golf course twice. The host is very acomadable and we'll get back to you if you have any questions. It was humid while I stayed there, but the place has plenty of fans to help keep you cool at night. There is a good place to snorkel only 5 minutes away where we were able to see turtles and there is plenty of places to eat a mile away. I would recommend staying here if you're visiting Hawaii and you have four less people. less

Will be returning!

We began our time on the Big Island with our stay in this unit, at Kanaloa. The condominium is located in a lovely complex right on the water, and it is flush with tidy, manicured tropical vegetation and palm trees. We will cut to the chase: this place is comfortable and beautiful, we recommend it, and we will absolutely look to return if ever in Hawaii again. To start with its' surroundings: Kanaloa is at the end of Alii’s drive, giving it relative proximity to Kona, Captain Cook, a number of beaches, good snorkeling, and much more. The complex has three small-ish pools, with our favorite being the one overlooking the ocean. You can watch the sunset and the waves from within the pool, and access the shoreline right then and there. We enjoyed giving tennis a try, and began most mornings with a few games at one of the two courts. The unit itself is very clean, with the spacious bedroom and living-room giving way to the outdoors via a screen door spanning most of the ocean facing wall. The kitchen is well stocked, and seeing as we like to cook, it served us quite well. The three of us, two adults and one teen, slept very comfortably, lulled by the sound of crashing waves. Being from Seatyle, we were worried that the lack of AC would be uncomfortable. However, we acclimated quickly and there was not a single instance in which it was missed. The check in instructions are very clear, and we haven't a single complaint overall. less

— Silvia, Stayed 08/04/2021

Perfect stay

The condo was perfect. Great location within complex, spotlessly, quite, great view, fast WIFI and every amenity you could ever need. I will book this unit next time I return to Hawaii.

— David, Stayed 05/06/2021

Wonderful condo

We enjoyed our stay in your beautiful home. Thank you for the great fruit basket. Everything was perfect and we would come back if we ever come to the big island again. Thank you for your hospitality.

Beautiful setting, very comfortable and quiet

Unit 1603 was so clean, quiet, convenient and relaxing! We were very happy with our choice and loved having the wide doorway fully open to the golf course and ocean, with surprisingly no bugs. The bed was comfortable and the ceiling fans worked well although it was a little humid. The kitchen was remarkably well equipped. We enjoyed the convenience to the grocery store, restaurants and exploration of the west side of the island and Richard was very responsive and helpful with questions before we booked. We will certainly recommend this condo! less

Kanaloa at Kona 1603

We loved being at the back/end of the complex with the combined view of the ocean and the golf course. It was quiet and peaceful and a good location to explore the southern end of the Island. We liked the convenience of being near the shopping center, and good restaurants and even the cinema. The condo was clean and comfortable and well stocked. Thank you for a relaxing vacation. less

Thanksgiving week stay - Meyer

We loved our stay Kanaloa. The facilities were well maintained and just wonderful views from so many parts of the complex. There was easy access to pools from any part of the complex and the location is ideal. Close enough to downtown without feeling too touristy. We definitely will stay there again when we return to Kona. less

Unit 1603

We have been coming to Kona and the Kanaloa for over 20 years and unit 1603 was the nicest and most comfortable unit we have stayed in. It has excellent views of the ocean, is quiet, tastefully furnished and equipped with comfortable furniture and a well supplied kitchen. The hosts were also very easy to contact and provided all of the information we needed for a relaxed stay. We will certainly recommend the unit to our friends and also try to schedule our future visits during times the unit is available. less

— BG, Stayed 10/09/2019

Great condo

Clean, quiet and very roomy. We spent most of our time on the large lanai staring out at the ocean. Bed in the room and the Murphy bed in living room were very comfortable. Amazing welcome basket with organic fruit and jams. Didn’t have air con but the sea breeze worked for us. Would stay again. less

— Jill, Stayed 09/30/2019

A condo perfect for your vacation

Everything about this condo was perfect for my week at the Big Island in June, 2019. The condo is roomy, comfortable, the kitchen well-equipped, and, with windows open, the ocean breeze all through the day and night is a dream. The view is wonderful, especially for sunset and the lanai a perfect place to enjoy it over dinner. My friends staying elsewhere thought my condo the best and preferred gathering there for creating dinner together. Boating and kayaking are nearby as is a small shopping center. I would definitely try to stay here for my next trip! less

— Marilyn, Stayed 08/19/2019

another outstanding stay at Kanaloa!

As usual, the unit was immaculate, recently renovated, and oh, those expansive ocean and golf course views are to die for. Tough to beat the quiet location, tranquility, excellent amenities, balcony sunsets and overall ambience. Excellent stay at condo 1603

This is by far the best condo we have stayed in. Your updated Improvements are great. The additional window under the computer desk is great. Freshly painted in neutral colors are very nice and the newly remodeled kitchen with all new appliances and granite counter tops, also new granite counter tops in both bathrooms and new faucets, new shower heads, new recessed LED lighting...all perfect. Nice job! Oh and I cannot forget the beautiful new kitchen cabinets...WOW! We had a wonderful stay. Although it was a little hot without A/C! Our only suggestion would be to replace the pillows..they are a little flat for our comfort! As always, the welcome basket is very nice to receive , Thank You . Thank you again for aour wonderful stay at your condo. until next time Wayne & Linda Melhus less

Can't wait to go back!

We have stayed in this condo several times and look forward to returning each year. Owners are super in how they maintain and manage their place. Very attentive and thoughtful in every way. Now that Kona Country Club Ocean course is back up and running, that makes the experience all the better, watching golfers go for the par 3 #12 green. This place is ideal if you like peace and quiet, and the sounds of the ocean just yards away. less

Superb

What? No rolling pin? LOL! We have rented condos and houses across the country and around the world for over 35 years, including numerous times at Kanaloa, and the furnishings & extras in Kanaloa 1603 rank at or near the top. This is a superb unit in a superb complex in a superb location. And the rental process was seamless. We’d stay here again in a heartbeat! Diane & Mark….very nice job. Thanks! less

Pleasant stay again in Kona

Greeted by an amazing gift basket with an array of local fruits, coffee, etc. Lovely unit, very well equipped with everything one would need for a Hawaiian vacation. Cooling ocean breezes, gorgeous ocean and golf course views. Responsive owners, quiet location in complex. Highly recommend.

— Billm, Stayed 12/18/2015

Perfect Choice

Our first impressions were wonderful, an amazing view of the ocean and the golf course plus a generous gift basket with local fruits and treats! As we settled in we really appreciated the well equipped kitchen and close proximity to grocery stores and shops. It was very hot during our stay but we managed to stay cool using the many fans, the pool nearby and the huge double shower!! Extras like beach equipment, sun shade on the balcony, comfy furniture, a good selection of books, a Hawaii Revealed travel guide, a clothes drying rack, etc made for a great experience. The suggestions of other guests and the owner helped us make the best of our 1 week stay. We would love to come back and stay in this condo. Great location to see the island too!! less

A Home away from Home

We have stayed at Kanaloa before, but Mark and Diane's condo was definitely the best. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here and couldn't have asked for better accommodations. We really appreciated the welcome gift basket and the extra fans (to help with the abnormally humid conditions). The unit is well equipped with everything we could possibly need, so it really felt like a home away from home. We are definitely coming back to the Big Island and to unit 1603. Many thanks Mark and Diane, we loved it! less

PERFECT BEAUTIFUL LOCATION

The condo was wonderful and the view of sunset's and wave's pounding on the rocks was awesome. Watched the cruise ships sail into the pier at Kailua Kona. Quiet location. This condo has everything you could want, boogie board, beach chairs, beach towels, snorkels & masks. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Thanks for the fresh coffee beans and fruit basket. Loved grinding fresh coffee every morning. Enjoyed the large shower which we needed a lot because it was hot, muggy and no tradewinds. So without air conditioning we were very uncomfortable. All the fan's did help a little. That is the only reason for the 4 stars. We would book again in a heart beat if it had air conditioning because it is a great condo and Mark and Diane gave us a lot of personal attention that we really appreciate. Thank you so much for letting us share your home. Our suggestion's for future guests: Snorkeling at Kahaluu Beach Park, 5 min. drive. Lot's of sea turtles. Safe and easy entry. Restaurants: Akule on Keauhou Bay. Great Fish & Chips. Bianellis Pizza & Pasta at the shopping center, 3 min. drive. Fish Hopper in Kailua Kona. Steak and seafood fantastic. Great fun shopping in Kailua Kona. Go to The Sheraton at night and watch the Manta Rays feed or better yet go swim with the Manta Rays. Big Island a fun place to sight see. less

Owner/Manager Response

Aloha Barbara, Thank you so much for your review. We are glad that you thought our place was lovely and enjoyed the great views and amenities of the unit. We are so sorry that you happened to be in Hawaii during a historically warm period, and moreover, that the trade winds and oceanfront breezes that normally keep this unit lovely and comfortable were mostly quiet during your stay. While there is sometimes an occasional day like this in the summer, it is highly unusual for there to be extended periods when it is warm and still. Our apologies for this and we hope that you do come back to Hawaii and maybe even try our unit again in future. Aloha and Mahalo, Diane and Mark Abel Owners, Kanaloa 1603

Absolutely Wonderful!!

The Condo was cozy, clean, beautiful view, beach items, and stocked with everything we needed. the Welcome Basket was amazing. We can't wait to come back!

Awesome Experience!

We did not know what to expect other than what we saw in the photo's promoting this condo. This condo exceeded our expectations in every way. We couldn't wait to go out to dinner, but when we saw the lanai, we gathered our Costco groceries and a chilled bottle of champagne and spent the evening on the lanai with one of the best views imaginable. When we arrived, the owners welcomed us with a gift basket which was left in the foyer in the entry. I can't say enough about this condo. Quiet, roomy, clean, and an incredible view of the ocean. The full size washer and dryer was a special treat, but even more so, the his/her huge showers! I can't imagine a better condo available in this area. This totally blew away our earlier Maui condo experience. less

Our best stay on the big island so far

Condo 1603 certainly exceeded our expectations. Tastefully decorated and well equipped, even stuff for the beach. The weather during our stay was less than ideal, but it was so nice to have this condo to spend our time.

— Frank P, Stayed 03/24/2015

Our most enjoyable place to stay in Hawaii

We have enjoyed staying in this condo several times now. Each time is a treat. Unfortunately, the golf course has been closed for quite some time, so couldn't play it, or watch golfers tee off on the Ocean Course #12 hole. But, it looks like they are slowly getting it ready to re-open, so here's hoping for next time. We played four other courses up the island, so just had longer commutes to reach them. The owners of this condo are outstanding in how they care for their guests. They make every effort to make the stay wonderful. less

Lucked out on our first trip to Kona!

This was our first trip to Kona and we feel we lucked out with unit 1603! Friends recommended Kanaloa at Kona so we looked on line for the different units available. We fell in love with the view from the lanai of 1603 and we were not disappointed. In fact, the whole unit was lovely. Comfortable furniture (which surprised me) well stocked with information, books, games, beach gear, you name it. It is obvious a lot of thought and care went into creating this get away from home. The fans and the trade winds kept us comfortable. Did I mention the large dual shower in the en suite? We definitely will consider returning in the future and we have already recommended it to our friends and family. less

The perfect "getaway" spot!

Easy to get to, within reach of everything from the high north to the lava runs in the south, beautifully appointed, close to town but not "in town" and with great shopping center nearby (you must try "Peaberry & Galette" - amazing crepes! [in Hawaii?!? - wow]) and a gorgeous view out the LR windows. Quite lovely. We'll most definitely be back. less

Beautiful view and great location

This condo was absolutely perfect for us. The location is ideal...close to Kona but not in the crowded part. It was easy for us to take day trips to any part of the island, and a very nice shopping center is just up the road. The condo has a beautiful view and we spent a lot of time on the lanai. The condo itself is very comfortable and nicely appointed. We appreciated the two baths...something hard to find in a one bedroom condo. The condo complex is very well maintained. We used the bar-b-que every night and swam in one of the three pools each day. I would highly recommend these condos. less

The kitchen having everything needed for cooking in,along with the great barbque area allows us to enjoy quiet evenings on the lanai. They are very special to us. With just two of us staying, the unit is perfect with the large bathroom and walk in shower, we never feel like we are cramped or tripping over each other. We like to stay for extended visits and the WiFi allows us to stay connected to our businesses when we need to or just check out of work mode and kick back and enjoy the views. Awesome place. Thanks for sharing with us Mark and Diane. less

1603 Kanaloa at Kona is/was Outstanding- beautiful, clean, speci

The view was spectacular - ocean, waves, golf course. My wife loved the decor. She would have liked air conditioning but the fans really helped and I didn't mind the Hawaiian warmth compared to the cold/cloudy/cool weather we came home to. The condo was well furnished. The shopping center with excellent grocery/pharmacy was only a mile away (gasoline station, book store, excellent pizza place there as well). The beach we used was only two miles to the north with excellent facilities/snorkeling and parking. The condo was quiet with parking stall right by the front door. And the personal attention that you have given us (and I suspect to all of your renters) has been outstanding less

Lovely condo with great views and all the amenities!

We stayed in this condo for about a week before we switched to a resort for a few days. We were genuinely sad to leave the beautiful ocean view, the gorgeous grounds and lovely interior of our condo. The owners had anticipated all of our needs (cookware, special beach towels, welcome basket full of goodies, high speed internet service etc). The condo was clean, in very good shape, with spacious living room and bedroom. More than enough space for the two of us. It was a pleasure relaxing at this well-appointed place. It does not have air conditioning, but we only found this to be a problem if we happened to be home in the middle of the day (when it is really warm), which wasn't very often. less

One of the best we have found in Kona!

This condo has a great location, view of ocean and golf hole (#12 of Kona C.C. Ocean course). Well maintained, clean, quiet, a pleasure to just relax there and listen to the ocean. Owners are very organized, lots of tips of things to do and see. We will use aloha Condos again, and hope to be able to rent this particular unit again and again. less

A beautiful condo that has made our vacations to the Big Island

After our 2nd stay in this unit at Kanaloa @ Kona my wife and I have only positive comments. The location of the condo is perfect with great proximity to snorkeling, beaches, kayaking, downtown Kona, farmer's markets. The beautiful grounds, relaxing pools, sunsets and friendly community that Kanaloa has created is something special. The view from the lanai is so relaxing as you watch the Pacific erode away the lava shoreline or a friendly foursome heading down the fairway. The owners have beautifully decorated the living spaces, fully equipped the kitchen for those of us that love to cook, and they take that extra effort to compliment a great Hawaii experience. less

Repeat visitor

We have stayed at this property several times and though it is very nice, it does need a little maintenance/upgrade work. The view and complex are one of the best. Sometime the noise from maintenance work on grounds or other units was annoying.

Plumb Perfect!!

My wife and I travel quite a bit, we both agreed that this was the cleanest accommodations we have ever had. In addition to an absolute killer view from the lanai, the unit was totally outfitted right down to a bottle of wine!! How much more can a weary traveler ask for? We had the place wide open every night so we could enjoy the sea breezes and ocean sounds...paradise!! If anyone wants a referral, have them e-mail me, I'll be glad to fill them in. Thank you for allowing us to use your home!! less

Wonderful condominium in superior resort with spectacular staff.

The resort grounds are immaculate with every amenity. The "Ocean Pool" is beautiful. Every member of the staff we encountered was outstanding, from Chris in the guard shack, Cass at the activities desk, and the groundskeepers who gave my boys fishing tips. The location of the unit is perfect with the ocean, coconut palms, and the golf course right out of the lanai. Can't wait to book another trip to the same spot. less

Paradise Perfect on the Big Island

Wow!!! Thank you Mark and Diane for sharing your piece of paradise with our family! Our experience was as close to perfect from beginning to end as a vacation could be. Starting with the pleasant and helpful guard, beautiful welcome basket, complete accommodations, to the beauty of Hawaii from the lanai. Plans are in the works to visit the Big Island and your condo next year for a longer stay... Thank You!!! less

Our vacation was totally relaxing with any activity we wanted cl

This was our fourth stay in 1603 at Kanaloa and we will continue to come back over and over. The condo itself is ideally situated to view sunsets, waves crashing and golfers playing the 16th hole of Kona Country Club. It has all that you need for housekeeping including a great kitchen, laundry facilities, two televisions (with DVD player), and beach gear to use. The view is unparalleled. It also has the convenience of a local manager who could not be more attentive. (although we never needed to call him) When you compare the space and all the amenities, any hotel/motel or B&B; pales by comparison. You will not believe the enormous shower facilities for two or more. Diane and Mark have done a terrific job with maintenance and cleanliness. Everyone who stays here seems to respect the condo and take care of it as their own. This is our favorite place on our favorite island. It is frequently rented into the future, so book early for the stay of a lifetime. less

Owner/Manager Response

As the 'attentive manager', I couldn't be more thrilled to know how appreciative our guest(s) are about this truly beautiful unit, and I concur. The Owners, Diane & Mark, have really gone out of their way to make their home away from Home a place guest(s) just love to visit. The care and respect the guest(s) give to it, during and after, show their repeated stays continue to make Unit 1603 at Kanaloa a sought after, and much cherished, vacation hide-away. This review should be in a Travel Magazine. Mahalo for the share. Kaleo Lindsey, Local Contact/Manager

great views off lanai

We enjoyed this condo immensely. The views are awesome (both ocean and golf course). The place was spotless and well equipped. Also, unlike many rentals, it was actually comfortable to lounge around inside the condo and on the lanai. Well definitely pick this one next time around. Sherri less

We loved the place.

We had a great time at #1603. The condo was very comfortable and met our needs in every way. The lanai was the best spot for the sunset each night. We can't wait to come back next summer!!

Kona

This is the second time that we have stayed in this unit and as before, it was great. The location of this property suits our style and this particular unit fits our needs. Hence we have a place that we are comfortable with and will return to. We have stayed in Kona several times and have gravitated to this facility primarily due to its ocean front pool. The barbeque area is very handy and we used it a lot. Though there was maintenance being done on the structure we were staying in, the crew was very considerate and the noise was not a distraction. The grounds are well maintained. Though there are 3 pools with one being designated as "family" we still had some noisy young kids disrupt us and 5 other adult couples at the ocean pool on a couple of afternoons. Bad timing. Diane has done a great job of outfitting her unit and there is not anything that this kitchen or space needs. We were able to stay in touch with home using the Wi-Fi and though we did not turn it on, it has a nice TV. The view from the lanai is spectacular and a great place to have morning coffee and enjoy dinner. If you like laughing at golfers, this place can't be beat as you can see just how serious some of these people take this "sport" and how poor they are at it. I will stay here again and would recommend it to adult couples. I would not recommend it to families or more than one couple. Keohou is a very quiet part of Kona so if you are looking for "action" this is not the place; in fact you have to drive almost everywhere. We are both fit and could walk to the shopping center for small needs and really enjoyed our walks/runs along the ocean road. less

Don't Tell Anyone

Stayed many times in Kailua-Kona, and at Kanaloa. 1603 by far the best condo available for two people. On the golf course Hole # 12 the Ocean Course and the Ocean was beautiful right there off the veranda. Sunsets every night from the balcony, ocean crashing, within 30 to 40 feet from the condo. We are going back again and again. The owners were delightful to deal with, welcoming goodies, flat screen TV and WiFi. Golf expensivefor non residents. less

nicely upgraded, but hot and noisy

One of the nicest units we've stayed in out of 25+ visits to Kanaloa: upgraded, modern, and clean. However, a summer visit without A/C makes for a hot and difficult sleep. This combined with an inconsiderate family in the unit above meant that we could only get 3-4 hours sleep per night. Unfortunately, the screaming baby and running tots were allowed to go undisclipined by very selfish parents and grandparents, who were owners - leaving not much recourse. An unfortunate way to ruin an otherwise wonderful condo. less

Owner/Manager Response

Thanks for staying with us and for the kudos for our condo. However, we were surprised and saddened to hear after-the-fact about the issues that you had while staying in our condo. Your complaint is the first we can recall receiving about our condo in all the years we have owned it. We just wish you had contacted us or our on-island contact during your stay so we could have helped make things right. We do our best to provide a great experience for our guests and in the rare instances when issues arise, we respond as quickly as possible to make things right. The retired couple who live in the condo above ours in Kanaloa are wonderful people and are very considerate and very approachable. In the particular week that you stayed with us, they had grandchildren visiting. Guests in our condo are instructed to contact our on-island contact or to contact us directly if they have any issues and if you had done so, we would have immediately contacted our neighbors to have them address the issue. The neighbors were unaware of the issue until after you had left. We do not have AC in our condo in large part because it is so rarely needed. As our many regular guests can attest, the condo faces west and north and opens out onto the ocean and golf course and there is exceptional airflow through the condo from the front lanai out to the back of the condo, especially when the trade winds are blowing. Most of our guests love to have the condo open and listen to the ocean and feel the ocean breezes at night. We can understand how you might have wanted to close up the place because of the noise issue you experienced. Again we are sorry that you had this issue and only wish that you had contacted us as soon as it occurred so we could have made it better while you were staying with us. Aloha and Mahalo, Mark and Diane Abel, owners Kanaloa 1603

We have stayed in this complex before and this condo is by far the best we have seen. Large, beautifully equipped, unbeatable view. We couldn't ask for anything more.

40th Anniversary Celebration

It ws a wonderful setting for our 40th Annaversary. The condo was absolutely beautiful and extremely well supplied throughout. The view of the ocean from the Lani was the greatest and the location and suroundings was really pleasent and very safe. I have recommended it to others and we hope to return some day. Not for print: Unfortunately we were there when the tempuratures were high and the condo was too warm for me. Fortunately the cooler breeze in the evening allowed us to sleep. We did not go out to dinner because I could not apply makeup to sweaty skin. I would have paid more for airconditioning on a timer. Also, I was not too happy to see that we had to drag our luggage up and down the stairs with no help of any kind of mechanical cart. We are both over 60 and it ws very hard for us. We unloaded most and carried it up out of the suitcase. some kind of a juggage cart would have helped. One could drag and the other could push. less

Honus galore!!

We had gone to Volcanoes National Park (splurge on wine from the winery there-it is very good) for a few days first and then went to Kanloa. It was a beautiful condo with a great view of the ocean-- always a breeze- did not miss the AC. We ate breakfast on the balcony/porch overlooking the golf course and ocean. There are neat gekkos on the grounds, as well as a mongoose that I saw several times outside the window. Cool birds too--liked the saffron finches (they will come for bread crumbs on the railing). I think it is too rocky to swim right at the condo (did not try though) We went snorkeling several times next to the Hawaiian Village Park (can't remember the name)-- it was spectacular with honu, spinner dolphins and loads of fishes. I thought that the snorkeling around Kona was better than Oahu or Kauaii (2007 trip). The kayak trip (Kona Boys surf shop rental) to the Captain Cook memorial is probably even better snorkeling fish-wise. The last day there I went snorkeling at Kona on a public beach and saw 6 turtles in about 45 minutes- (had to leave that day) it was way cool. We did not really find it until the last day, but there is a spot to rent kayaks right near the condo - take a left before you turn in to the development. less

very nice kona condo

Very nice condo, well appointed. patio with view of a par 3 hole on the kona country club ocean course. waves could be heard crashing from just below the condo. very quiet. several pools onsite. main clubhouse had a computer one could use for a small fee; can't remember if they had wifi or not, but as we didn't bring laptop with us didn't matter. 2 ok golf courses on the property. if we went back to kona would certainly consider staying there again. less

My husband and I can not thank the Abel family enough for such a fantastic vacation spot. The view from the lanai was incredible. We spent alot of time there. A new home on the Big Island

When planning our trip to the Big Island my wife and I looked at review site after review site of different hotels on the island. We never found anything that was in our price range and actually had good reviews. Then, while talking about the planning of our honeymoon at work, a co-worker told me about this condo and how nice the owners were. So, my wife and I checked out the pictures and were hooked. The master-shower is HUGE! One of the things that I never noticed was that there was a trail between the rocks on the beach and the golf course. You have to walk towards one of the pools (the one near the beach) to gain access to that trail. It's a nice place to take a stroll during the day/night. We were able to see some whales swimming up the coast on the first night of our stay (it was whale season). One of the other things I didn't realize is that there is a restaurant in the actual complex. My wife and I had lunch there twice and really enjoyed it. I believe they close pretty early, so you want to at least just try to have breakfast or lunch. The restaurant is located near the path that you can take to get out onto the trail near the beach(the beach side pool). The owners are great people to talk to and deal with. It feels almost like you're staying at a friend's home for the week(at least that's how long we stayed). I will be recommending this condo to anyone who wants to stay in a nice/quiet condo that overlooks the ocean. I'm basically going to call this place my own home because I will stay here every time I go to the Big Island. less

nice condo

The condo was great, with a nice lanai and we ate out there in the AM and evenings. The view was also great, up the golf course, with the ocean close by and no obstructions to the sunset. We were able to walk up the golf course in the evenings and all was peaceful and tropical. The drawbacks are that we didn't want and didn't have air conditioning, but many of the neighbors did and the noise was disturbing at night with our windows open. Also, someone smoked in the condo below us and the smoke came into our place. The vog was a problem and most days were cloudy in Sept. by late morning and we has to go north of Kona to find sunshine. Once we figured that out, it wasnt a problem. We'd go there again. It was a nice place, but probably at a different time of year. less

Luxurious Comfort

Took Mum on her first trip to Hawaii, she loved this condo. It was spacious and comfortable, every amentity was provided. We loved sitting on the lanai watching the waves crash onto the rocks and double-bogie-plus holiday golf. The design of the condos are terrific - they are very private. We had a fabulous time, and hope to be back there soon. less

A view to die for!

This condo offers both ocean and fairway views all at the same time. The lanai doors open fully and let the breezes in. The master bedroom has a nice soft king size bed and the master bath shower has room for 2 or more people. Shopping and restaurants are just around the corner. One of the best locations on Kona. less

Kanaloa at Kona 1603 - Wow!

Wow. We booked this wonderful "home away from home" in a quiet resort, through Aloha Condos. The owners are professional, friendly and very helpful with any questions. The condo looks just like the web photos and the view from the lanai really is fantastic! We got some great sunset video with the HD camera. One of the best things is that you get to park close to your condo in covered parking! Woo hoo! Not like at those resorts where you are miles away from your car and the items you left behind in it. The condo has new appliances including a washer and dryer which come in very handy. The condo is perfect for a couple, but 1 or 2 kids could sleep on the murphy bed. I wasn't about to cook a thing, so we bought some great take-out to eat on the lanai for dinner a couple of times. There is a grocery store, decent pizza and Thai food, a movie theater and a drug store with 1 hour photo about a 5 minute drive away. The Keauhou Beach resort has a yummy breakfast buffet and snorkeling close by (although this reef is now being protected due to years of damage). Costco and Walmart are 20 minutes away. The condo offers comfy beach chairs, fluffy beach towels and a cooler for use at the beach along with three drawers full of a variety of books to read so you don't have to worry about any of that. In fact we had people at a local music event on the lawn of the "Palace" ask where we got our comfortable looking chairs! The HD TV screen was great for watching our videos and photos each night to recap the day! The owners also sent a lovely welcome basket which was a nice touch! The vog was not bad at all, so don't let tales of bad air quality scare you away from this island. I have terrible asthma and never had one problem. It did rain some, but hey...it's an island...If the sky looks a little cloudy, all you have to do is drive North to Hapuna Beach. This is truly a "Big Island" that has it all! Kanaloa #1603 was the perfect place to return to at the end of each day. less

We spent a wonderful week at this unit. The Lani was our favorite spot, with the amazing view and wonderful sound of the ocean. The pictures on the website do not show how nice this unit really is. We had 4 adults and we were very comfotable staying here. We will stay here again, is very quiet and a good location. We also enjoyed the sunsets from the golf course and by one of the pool area's. Great Condo for couple

We stayed at Kanaloa for the first time on this trip. We have traveled to Kona several times and liked the pool and grounds lay out better here than at places we have stayed previously. This unit is very well represented in the pictures and description. The view from the lanai is just as you see it in the pictures. The kitchen is very well equiped and the unit's housekeeper does a spectacular job. We have been traveling to Hawaii for 30 years and I have to say that this unit is one of the best we have rented. We liked that the pool is ocean front and the golf course being so close gives you expansive views that you normally would not get from a unit that is not right on the ocean front. The unit may be a little hot in the warmer months since it does not have air conditioning. This was not an issue for us when we were there in late November and early December. We look forward to coming back here on our future trips to Kona and I have recommended it to my friends that are going to Kona. less
