Go Windsurfing in Paradise

If you enjoy windsurfing, you’ll know there’s no better place to do it than where your sail can catch the breeze from the open ocean. Unfortunately, most places which offer this are very cold, making the sport still more exhausting.

If you’d like to try windsurfing somewhere where you can catch the breeze without freezing in the process, the ideal location is the island of Maui. This is where professionals practice and it’s home to a famous annual contest.

A Maui vacation condo makes a great base for exploring the island’s impressive coastline. You can hire equipment easily in most of the small towns and in some areas lessons are also available for those trying windsurfing for the first time. The most popular spot with those in the know is Kanaha beach park, where a vast expanse of calm water breaks into sparkling surf.

A stiff breeze blows in from the ocean beyond the bay, giving you plenty of wind for your sails. In fact, it’s such a great location that humans aren’t the only ones who enjoy it! You’ll also see flying fish leaping out of the water in great silvery shoals, gleaming in the light as they dart between the waves. And keen-eyed surfers may spot green sea turtles, which often come quite close, curious about the boards.

Braver windsurfers can move out beyond the bay to the ocean itself. It’s a thrilling feeling to be riding your board along a coastline which is literally thousands of miles from any other land. Yet despite the island’s isolation, the currents are gentle, and the only things to watch out for are the (fairly obvious) reefs.

If you listen to local advice, you’ll find that windsurfing off Maui can be remarkably safe without ever compromising on excitement. You’ll want to return to your Maui vacation condo year after year for further adventures.
