Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club 1-102, Kailua-Kona Big Island

Older suite but excellent location

This condo unit is big and spacious and the location can't be beat. The setting was tranquil and beautiful and the perfect viewing place to watch the gorgeous sunsets. The condo unit itself is old and could use some upgrades and TLC in so many... more areas: drawers don't close in bathroom and bedside tables so they always hang open; the slider screen doors squeak very loudly when opened/closed; the sink garbeurator really does not work - the food remains in the sink; the carpet throughout appeared vacuumed and relatively clean but extremely worn out; the linen closet door in the main bathroom does not close because of the stacking washer/dryer that has been installed. The cold water shut off in the bathroom was turned off when we arrived so there was only hot available. When we turned it on we noticed that the tap leaked like crazy so we turned it off again and alerted the property manager to it. He responded that yes, he did know about that and would look into it. We didn't hear from him again and so for 10 days so we had no cold water in the main bathroom. Also, when we told the property manager that the three kleenex boxes were empty on day 2 of our stay, he told us to go buy more. There were people in the suite upstairs for only 3 nights throughout our stay. There is very little sound-proofing in the ceiling and we found them very loud. However, despite all of this, would we stay again? Yes! The suite is spacious, the bed and pillows were comfortable, there was a lot of storage space, there were beach supplies to use, and the kitchen was well equipped. The positives outweighed the negatives but people should expect an older condo in a beautiful location. less

Feels like home

My husband and I really like this unit and have stayed there twice. It has a great ocean view, and you can hear the waves crashing on the lava in front. The unit is extremely well appointed with everything you need in the kitchen, including... more a huge array of spices. There are beach towels and chairs, etc. in the closet of the 2nd bedroom. It is obvious, though, that people have lived in the unit, and the carpet is badly stained. One of the sliding glass doors is hard to use. Our little slice of Paradise

Great location!

This condo has the best views to the ocean right outside the sliding glass doors! We truly loved our stay at this condo and were grateful it was on the first floor! We were close to a shopping center where we could quickly and without... more hassle run up to a grocery store. Also, snorkeling, downtown Kona, and other activities are not far away and very convenient to access. The property is outfitted with a pool, tennis courts, and BBQ units and seating areas. Just be sure to bring your own racquets, there wasn't anyone in the office we could borrow racquets from during our stay. It’s a great location and I love the Surf and Racquet Club. They do such a wonderful job on the grounds and keeping the pool and courts nice. I am giving the condo a 5 because it is such a great spot with the ocean... more right out the lanai. It does need some work though and recommend the carpets be cleaned and the kitchen rug thrown out. It’s time to go through the pots and pans, silverware and utensil drawers and clean out old stuff and generally get rid of the clutter. It’s hardly a deal breaker- the spot is wonderful. And yes I would rent it again in a heartbeat. less

Spectacular Views and Comfortable Space

David, Thank you for sharing this wonderful condo (1-102) at the Surf and Racquet Club. This was our third time visiting the Big Island and our third time at the S&R club; we wouldn't stay anywhere else. From the wonderful full time residents to the... more amenities, it makes for a very nice, relaxing time, and is the best location on the island. Our week was quite warm and the lower unit really allowed for a comfortable temperature especially when utilizing the ceiling fans. The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen fully equipped with everything you need to make affordable meals for the family. Dinner on the back patio watching the evening sunset never got old during our 9 days, in fact we made sure to arrive back from our daily adventures in time just for it. The bathrooms were great for a nice shower after a long day of snorkeling, hiking, and touring. Our adventures included jumping the cliffs at south point or right around the corner at EOW (End of the World), snorkeling at Cap't Cook where we found a few white tip reef sharks and swam with a pod of over 100 spinner dolphins. Hawaii is truly an experience I wish and hope everyone can enjoy in their lifetime and your condo was a great beginning and end to each day. Thanks Again, Tom less

Fall asleep listening to the waves

This condo is right on the water so you get lulled to sleep each night by the waves since you hear them from the master and the living room. The set up was great for our family of 4 with the 2nd room having two... more single beds. Our young girls loved the pool and we found the location really convenient for kayaking down south at Captain Cook and for checking out the place of refuge which is spectacular if you get there about 1.5 hours prior to sunset. It was also really convenient that they had beach and pool equipment so we didn't have to worry about any of that. Great spot, highly recommend! less

Already missing the sound of the ocean

Lovely oceanfront condo

The condo was large enough for the 3 of us sleeping there and to accomodate the visits from family that live nearby. Comfortable furniture, well stocked kitchen and bathrooms and lots of beach items. Wonderful Waterfront Condo

We absolutely loved our stay at this condo! What an amazing view and the welcome basket was such a thoughtful gesture. This condo has everything you could possibly need to get the most out of a visit to the big island. We even found some... more De-Fog on the shelf for our snorkel masks! Whatever we used up we replaced before we left as it would seem everyone else did before us. We had a minor plumbing issue which Ken F responded to immediately. Amazing View

This place is stocked with everything you need to vacation with all the conveniences of home. The view is amazing, it is decorated nicely and the space is more than ample. The beds are very comfy. Fantastic stay in Kona

We had a wonderful stay at David's condo at the Surf and Raquet club. The condo was so spacious and roomy great for our family of five. The kitchen was large with everything we needed to prepare some meals and even have a BBQ at... more the Close BBQ area. The beds super comfy and there were plenty of airconditions to cool the rooms down at night. This condo is on the ground floor and looks directly out at a stunning view of the water. It was lovely to sit here of an evening and watch the sun set. David has the condo well stocked with beach towels, boogie boards, esky and even beach chairs. We loved the location of the condo with a supermarket within walking distance and the snorkling beach five minutes away. About a 15 min drive to the shops at Kona. My boys loved the pool area and if it wasn't so hot we probably would have enjoyed a game of tennis too. We absolutely loved Kona and our time there and wished we stayed longer. I would definitely return here and will be recommending it to my friends. David was an excellent host, in helping me find our friends we travelled with a condo situated close to this one and also in email contact if we needed anything. Great place to stay. Thank you! less

Far exceeded our expectations; nicest place we have ever stayed in Hawaii

This condo took our breath away when we walked in -- we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Gorgeous granite counters in the kitchen, warm wood cabinets and accents throughout, beautiful tilework in bathrooms, cozy soft carpet in living area and bedrooms, and sliding glass... more doors from master bedroom that open straight out to the ocean. Two full bedrooms, two bathrooms, snorkel gear, boogies boards, beach towels, fully stocked kitchen -- and an absolutely amazing price. It was lovely and so quiet; we went to sleep listening to the waves every night. Mornings we had coffee and breakfast on the lanai and watched for spinner dolphins. This unit is also conveniently located close to the pool and gas barbecues for grilling. The complex itself is within easy walking distance of the great snorkeling at Kahulu'u Beach Park, and is super close to a nice grocery store at Keauhou Shopping Center. There are cultural sites (heaius) on the grounds, and more just down the beach (including some petroglyphs). Keauhou is just south of Kona and there is a trolley for $2 if you don't want to drive into town. Captain Cook Monument/Kealakekua Bay (best snorkeling in the state, in our opinion) is just south, as is Pu'uohonua o Honaunau National Historical Park (more great snorkeling and site of tremendous historical interest). When we stayed in the Kona area before we rented a condo closer to Kona which was only 1 bedroom/1 bath, was more expensive, and the kids had to sleep on a futon in the living room. This was like a dream; we have already recommended it to several friends. The only potential drawback I can think of is that you cannot walk straight out to the water (the units sits on a rocky bluff) and the view of the waves is better from 2nd or 3rd floor units; you also wouldn't have to be so careful about locking up if you were on an upper floor. None of this was an issue for us, and we would definitely come back to this beautiful unit. Thank you for a lovely vacation getaway. less

Amazing condo

This condo is fantastic. You cannot get any closer to the ocean it is just perfect. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the cooking utensils you could ever need. Beds are very comfortable. So convenient to have beach towels and snorkel equipment available... more to borrow. Also body boards, buckets and spades for the kids to use. The pool on site is great. Quiet tucked away location

The only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of 4 is because there was no HVAC or window cooling unit. The only way to cool down was a ceiling fan and a few electric fans that were stationed in the bedrooms. Winter Escape to Kailua-Kona

We enjoyed a 9 night visit to this condo in early March. The location was great as is the view from the condo. The kitchen was well equipped and easy to use. So nice to enjoy an ocean view while tossing a salad! The biggest... more downside for us was the king size bed in the master bedroom…it seemed very worn out. We even flipped the mattress and remade the bed hoping to get better support. I agree with another comment that having a couple of lounge chairs would have been nice as well as additional seating around the patio table given that the condo sleeps more than 4 people. We have friends who were in the area while we were there and we gathered to watch the amazing sunsets and enjoy nibbles; the shortage of seating was noticeable. The addition of two more chairs around the table would be nice. Even though there is no air conditioning, we found the breezes and fans kept the condo very comfortable. We had one small problem that necessitated a call to Ken, the local contact. He provided guidance on resolving the issue with no problem. The condo provides beach chairs, towels and a small cooler that made it very helpful when exploring various beaches in the area. Thanks for having those available. There is also a lot of other beach and surf equipment available for those who are more adventurous. Rating is based upon the amazing location and view and the well-equipped kitchen as particularly outstanding. less

Condo Review

We had a wonderful time, the condo was very nice and the view was spectacular. We are planning on returning next January. The only down fall was the last week of our vacation there was a couple with 2 small children staying in the condo... more directly above us. We were woken up every morning to kids running back and fourth at 6:00 am. The couple acted as if they were the only ones in the condo complex. Each early morning they would be washing dishes and cleaning up. You could hear this out in the parking lot ! Other than that it was a pleasant stay. Perfect holiday home!

Fabulous location

Your condo was fabulous! The sun set right in front of us the first night and the next morning we were greeted by dolphins leaping in the ocean right in front of the lanai. The furnishings were luxe and squeaky clean. The only thing lacking... more was air conditioning. It was pretty hot and humid at night even with all the numerous fans provided. The condo is very nice. View of the ocean from the bed! There is no A/C, but you really don't need it with the ocean breeze singing you to sleep. Now the 2nd bedroom gets hot and I wouldn't have been able to sleep in... more there.. The owner left a gift basket full of goodies to welcome us. Highly recommended to stay here. It is about 10 minutes from the tourist area. Nice and quiet. No direct beach access though. Closest beach is 3 minutes up the road! Great snorkelling and the owner has everything you need for a perfect day on the beach. (Beach chairs, umbrella, snorkel gear, body board) it felt like we lived at the Big Island!! A Great Place!

We loved our four-night stay here! Thank you! The place is even nicer than the photos. The location is right on the ocean, overlooking beach rocks (about 1.5 stories above ocean level). It's the most tastefully appointed beach home I've EVER stayed in. The transaction/communication... more on the rental was very easy! The kitchen is well-stocked (and a lot nicer than the kitchen we have in our own home!). The view right off the patio is breathtakingly beautiful. The porch swing is a nice touch! Wifi works great. The beach and bath towels are plentiful. The linens are nice. The beds are comfortable. And the place is CLEAN and fresh-smelling. It is impressively clean! I have allergies, so the fresh/clean condition was a huge plus! Walking distance to great snorkeling, and being on the south side of Kona (as opposed to Kona or Waikaloa) made it easier/quicker to get to great snorkeling spots such as Two Step & Kealakekua Bay (Capt. Cook) and Volcanoes National Park. We LOVED the location! Any negatives? Neighbors were noisy a couple times, the TV/Cable is a little hard to figure out, and it's not particularly close to any sandy beaches, and if you're a light sleeper, the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks might take a night to get used to. But those were all very very minor and did not detract from what a great place this is! less

Wonderful experience.

The location is superb with a view of the ocean, and the ability to hear the waves crashing against the rocks. The condo is... more beautifully decorated with top of the line appliances, comfortable beds, and very nice linens. Everything is far nicer than you expect when you rent a vacation condo. An added bonus is that the owner makes sure there is always a nice supply of necessities in the condo, such as shampoo, conditioner, detergent, and etc. You will also find lots of items provided that you may have to buy if staying in another condo, such as boogie boards, beach towels, etc. I would highly recommend a stay at Condo 1-102 and I hope to return soon. The Perfect Place

We absolutely LOVED Condo 1-102. The service and information provided by David before we arrived was helpful, courteous and so quick, thank you David, exceptional service! The Condo itself was truly wonderful. It had everything we could possibly wish for and more. We were so... more impressed with what was in the condo, the full kitchen was just like home and and the appliances are top quality. Lovely linen, comfortable beds, lots of storage for your belongings and the best bit of all ... the view is breathtaking. The Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club is a gorgeous, well maintained property. We highly recommend Condo 1 - 102. less

Beautiful condo - we would definitely recommend it.

The condo was beautiful. The complex was beautiful. The grounds were all so beautifully landscaped and well taken care of. The pool was clean and refreshing. The condo itself was such a wonderful surprise. It was more than we were expecting. Two large beautiful bedrooms... more and two full baths. The kitchen and living room area was really large, and the kitchen had everything you could ever want or need. All the finishes were top quality. The view from the lanai was spectacular with so many beautiful sunsets. We also saw spinner dolphins and whales while sitting on the lanai. The barbeque area was so convenient and almost right outside the door. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone going to the Big Island. The only thing that we would have liked was to be closer to the town of Kona. It wasn't in walking distance, just a short drive, which really wasn't an issue for us, but it would have been more convenient in some ways if it had been closer. less

Perfect place to stay on the Big Island

This condo is right on the water making for awesome views from the lanai by day and relaxing ocean sounds by night. The unit is very updated, spacious, and well equipped. The location is great in that it is close enough to Kona town for... more easy access, but far enough away not to be affected by the traffic or hustle and bustle. Restaurants, shopping, snorkeling, and other activities are all nearby. less

Breath taking sunsets from the lanai.

Great condo. Accommodations were excellent. Smooth communication with owner. On site person to assist with any problems. Nice pool. Sitting on the lanai watching the sunset was unbelievable.

Terrific rental.....

I booked this condo last minute as the one I was slated to stay in (in the same complex) was flooded out. I was a little hesitant to book a ground floor unit but the pictures depicted a very nice, upgraded unit with a wonderful... more ocean view. All I can say about this condo is WOW !!!! The owner was gracious and responsive and the pictures actually do not reflect how wonderful and fully stocked this very large condo was. My advice to anyone contemplating this rental is RENT IT. The only problem we encountered was the chain smokers next door. They were rude and unsympathetic. That being said, we contacted the owner and he was apologetic and helpful but there really was nothing that could be done. The condo was unbelievably well stocked and it was a pleasure to stay in. Thanks David for providing such a wonderful, well stocked condo for us to call home for 9 days !!! We will be back without a doubt. less

Beautiful Oceanfront Condo

This is a beautifully remodeled ground level, oceanfront condo. David, the owner, has done a wonderful job with remodeling the condo and stocking the unit with everything you could possibly need for a great vacation. He was great in offering many helpful suggestions regarding great... more snorkeling spots and places to eat. People in the community are warm and helpful. Yelp also proved to be a wonderful resource in finding the best restaurants in the area. We had a great time and will definitely be back! Mahalo and Aloha. less

Great condo! Great Location!

The condo was in fabulous shape! Kitchen was fully equipped. All the amenities you could ever want; boogie boards came in handy. Location perfect - great to sit out on lanai and watch sunset. Pool on site was nice. Great snorkeling just down the road.... more Nice to have close access to a CVS, L&L BBQ, and local espresso shop with fantastic apricot scones at shopping center just up the road. Wish we could have stayed longer! less

5 Star Rental!

Excellent Quality....everything: furniture, decor, kitchen, washer and dryer. Beautiful, restful decor. Sitting on Lanai in swing was truly a pleasure!! Hope to vacation here again!

Fantastic!

This is one amazing condo! We've stayed in many condos throughout the islands being a family of budget travelers, but this one was by far the best. Literally right on the water, the view was stunning!!! I don't think you could get any closer to... more the ocean in Kona. The sunsets were amazing. We even saw a full moon set over the water at 5am which was unreal too. You could see dolphins right from the lanai in the mornings. Upon arrival, we drove right in, no fuss, easy instructions to follow. The condo is stocked with everything - the kitchen had every appliance and condiment you could want, the massive washer/dryer had soap and softener, the bathrooms already had big bottles of shampoo and conditioner - check at the condo before you shop! There was a bookcase full of travel guides too (Big Island Revealed included) and a closet full of beach/snorkel gear and tons of towels which was all great. There was also free Wi-Fi and a gift basket waiting for us! You thought of everything! Hope we can come back soon. less

Absolutely Perfect!!!

We couldn't believe on our arrival how well appointed this unit was. It was fully stocked with everything you could think of. Boogie Boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach bag and towels. Condo was immaculate and bed was the most comfy we have... more ever slept in. Kitchen was also stocked with a full supply of spices, sugar,and even condiments...paper products, soaps...this place was turn key. Condo itself is elegant, all Island decor and is literally a stones throw from the water. Nothing better than the sound of waves to lull you into sleep. The property is very well maintained, lots of gardens and paths..and a very short walk to the pool. Highly recommend this unit! less

Exceptional Condo with great attention to Detail!

This place has it all! We were looking for a clean, oceanfront condo with access to pool and tennis courts and we got more than we expected. The place is very spacious, well stocked kitchen and linens and has all the "toys" you need including... more snorkels, boogie boards, coolers and beach chairs. I especially loved all the beautiful touches that the owner put into the remodel, including the custom granite, tile work and cabinetry...there is more storage than you'll ever need. The only thing that would have been nice to have was a/C but there were ceiling fans and room fans in every room so that kept us cool enough. The location was perfect as well as you are minutes away from restaurants and groceries and good snorkeling spots. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a top of the line unit as you will not be disappointed. less

Hawaiian Paradise!

This condo is beautiful! Everything was clean, new, and well cared for. Thought was put into everything in the condo - from the appliances to a fully stocked kitchen to the beach amenities - this place provides everything you need to have a good, relaxing... more time in Hawaii. Communication and reserving this condo was super easy, as was checking in. A beautiful welcome basket awaited us upon coming in the door. The Surf and Racquet Club is the perfect location for a getaway. This condo is located right on the water with a beautiful view from both the master bedroom and the patio. But if that isn't enough, the Kahaluu Beach Park is a 10 minute walk. This beach park has the best snorkeling around. You can also get surf lessons and rent stand up paddle boards. Snorkel gear is available to rent right there at the beach. The Surf and Racquet Club also has a great pool and is within walking distance of the Keauhou shopping center that has everything you might need - groceries, pharmacy, restaurants, and movie theater. The condo is fully equipped for a day at the beach. Some snorkel gear, beach chairs, beach mats, boogie boards, towels, and coolers are all stashed away in the closets. The condo has two big screen doors (one in the master and one in the living room) that can be opened up for great ventilation through the house. There is no air conditioning, but with the screens open and the ceiling fans on, there was no need for extra air conditioning. The condo also has extra floor fans in every room if you need them. There are TVs in each bedroom and the living room, although with the view out the patio, we spent most of our time watching the kayaks, boats, and dolphins going by. Both bathrooms are of good size - one with a bathtub and one with a glassed in shower. The washer and dryer in the master bath came in handy at the end of our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this condo and are planning on trying to book it again for our next trip to the Big Island. less
