Loved Kanaloa at Kona, but will stay a different unit next time

Kanaloa is a great location in Kona, and this unit is a nice location within Kanaloa if you want to be near the pool and have an ocean view. The two lanais are great to have, you can watch the sunrise on one and the... more sunset on the other. The open floor plan allows a nice cross breeze which keeps the unit cool. We felt is was quiet and spacious for our family of four and we will visit KAK again. We did have several issues with the unit, and although the local manger was responsive, they could not solve too much. We never did have WiFi working during out trip, despite a visit by the cable company we had to wait for. We also never had AC in the master bedroom, but the living room AC worked nice. In addition to waiting for the cable company we had to wait for a plumber to check on an issue. It seemed there was some deferred maintenance in the unit. We never did get a response from the owner Karen Glick via text or email but someone from the management company did email several days later. Kanoloa at Kona is a great choice for our stay, but we will seek out a different unit next time due to some of the issues that we had to deal with. less

Awesome stay

Great Stay

We had a great time at our Kanaloa condo 2503. It is steps away from all three pools and the tennis court. Unimpeded view of sunsets from main lanai, with table and chairs for dinners. Sunrise view from bedroom lanai with chairs for morning coffee.... more Kitchen fully stocked, even food baggies for picnics and foil for bbqs. Comfy furniture including a real innerspring mattress in the sofa sleeper for my sister’s stay. AC in each room, screens for night breeze. Condo 2503

We chose this condo because of the gorgeous ocean view. It was in a good location on the island and behind a security gate which was nice. The bed was very comfortable. The condo was acceptable although it is a little outdated and worn and... more could use some paint and updating. The washer and dryer was nice to have although we were surprised we were asked to wash all the towels before we left by a note on the refrigerator. We had to ask Rita for laundry soap. She was very responsive. We had to go out and buy shower soap as there was none in the condo when we arrived. The chair in the entrance was not there (as shown in the photos) and we had to take a lawn chair down to take our shoes off and on. less

amazing view and hospitality of owner

I stayed for 4 nights and the most impressive part is its view. I have never stayed with such an amazing ocean view. unit was spacious for 2 with a plenty of towel and well cleaned. Another amazing part is the owner, Ali's hospitality. When... more checked in, I found a basketful of fruits and local items showing welcome. And when I couldn't find a coffee filter, Ali bought them the next morning with a welcoming smile, which impressed me very much and thank him a lot. If I make a picky comment, the sliding windows to the lanai were so stubborn that I had difficult to open and close them. However in total, I definitely stay in this unit next time. less

Gorgeous!

We have been to Kona several times, and this was the nicest resort we've had the pleasure to stay at. The grounds are gorgeous, the condo spacious and the location is fantastic. Being the condo is a true waterfront condo, the views of the ocean... more were spectacular. I love the sounds of the waves and the tropical birds. Simply the paradise we travel for. The condo had everything we hoped for to include beach equipment. The kitchen is large and well stocked. The newly remodeled shower was a pleasant surprise. We added the air conditioning package which was well worth it as coming from rain and snow, it took us a while to get used to 84 degree weather! He is gracious and genuinely concerned with his guests enjoying their visit. The only issue that might be a concern for some with mobility issues is that it is a second floor unit with no elevator, just stairs so a wheelchair or crutches could be a problem. My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights while we explored the Kona area of the Big Island. We loved the fantastic ocean-front view of this condo resort, and watched the sunset almost every night while we enjoyed a snack and cocktail on the... more balcony. The resort was beautifully manicured, quiet, and had all the ammenities we were looking for...pool, hot tub, tennis court. The condo was very spacious, and had all the ammenities we could ask for...fully stocked kitchen, wifi, washer/dryer, bath and shower, air cocnditioning and good air circulation. The condo was a bit outdated in it's decor, but we didn't mind since we were spending our days out and about. Would definitely stay here again just to see that ocean sunset view! Great Sunset location

My husband and I spent an enjoyable 4 nights in this ground floor condo. The condo faced the ocean front pool and had a front row seat to beautiful sunsets. The interior was spotless and we enjoyed having an icemaker which is on the top... more of my husband's vacation wish list. The kitchen lacked some basic cooking items, such as a pizza pan which most people tend to buy at least once when away from home. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable but faced the parking and access road which if the condos are busy could be a problem for light sleepers. Location, location, location...

My wife and I stayed at Kanaloa in condo 2503 for 2 weeks during October, 2019. This is our 5th visit to Kanaloa and we've stayed in as many different units all around the complex. We chose 2503 primarily because of its location near the... more pool and its view of the ocean, all while being offered at a competitive rate. We were not disappointed! Our favorite time and activity each day was having breakfast on the lanai while listening to the birds awake and watching the dolphins swim by. We were a bit too early for whales but this would be a great place to see them in season! So why did I rate it a 4 out of 5? 5 implies perfection, and while much of our stay was perfect, especially the location of condo 2503, it is a bit too worn to be a 5. That said, it is comfortable, well appointed in all rooms, everything worked to our satisfaction, and we'd stay there again with no hesitation. Parking iss close by with easy access and you barely had to think about going to the pool and you were there. The grounds are well kept and we love just walking around Kanaloa to see the flora, fauna, and gorgeous views. I could go on and on about how much we love staying at Kanaloa and the Big Island in general but that's for you to discover for yourselves! less

LOVELY 2nd floor condo

The condo was beautifully appointed and very spacious. Kitchen was well supplied for every need. Wonderful view of the ocean. Local fruit company left a lovely welcome basket which was a huge blessing! Never had that before. Plus owner left a foldable cooler bag so... more appreciated and very useful. Very close to small shopping center with eateries and grocery store. DOWNSIDES- No real swimming beach was a downer and no walking paths and carrying all 6 pieces of luggage was very difficult on 2nd floor in heat! Never again! Coming Home

My wife I and come to the Big Island every year for about the last ten years. The first couple of years we stayed at other places and in our exploring we found Kanaloa Condos. We stayed at another unit before we found Al’s place.... more That was probably 6 or 7 years ago. During our first stay the air -con did not work in the bedroom and we contacted Al and we can came up with a solution that worked for of us, and I must say Al was very wanting to make things right. Which was great. Because of this experience and also the ocean view, well equiped and comfortable unit we are yearly regulars at Al’s place. When we get there it is always like coming home. less

We had a restful visit and found the condo met all our expectations. All equipment (fans, AC, etc.) functioned as expected and the place was clean and in order when we arrived. We did have some early on issues with the TV system but managed... more to get it resolved. Also, one morning we both went out on the ocean-side deck and shut the slider which self-locked! This was early (6:30) so waited about 1/2 hour for a maintenance man to appear and get us back into the condo. You may wish to warn people to not completely close the slider when on the deck in case it locks preventing reentry. less

Well Stocked Condo in a Great Location!

We stayed in 2503 for a week and it was fabulous! There was a gift basket with local fruit, jam, and coffee upon arrive, which was so nice considering we arrived around 9:30 p.m. Definitely a nice touch! The condo was stocked with everything we... more needed including beach toys, towels, paper products, etc... We ate most meals on the lanai, and the kitchen was well stocked too. The grills located on the property were perfect for cooking. The lanai overlooked the pool and ocean, allowing us to listen to the waves crash. We've been to the Big Island a few times and the location of this condo was perfect, close to Kona but not in the middle of the bad traffic. The only semi-negative thing about the condo was that it is a bit dated, although very well maintained and clean. We appreciated our time in 2503 and hope to return soon! less

KONA CONDO 2503 REVIEW

Condo #2503, at Kanaloa at Kona, is a great property with a great view. However, the property needs some updating and care. There were numerous little things that would have made our stay more enjoyable had they been cleaned, fixed or replaced. Examples: Kitchen faucet... more difficult to move and leaks around the base. Lighting is poor, with outdated or burned out CFL's. The carpet is loose on stairs. Long vertical blinds have missing or broken blades. The sliding door tracks were so dirty we had to clean to open/close them. Stereo and 1 of 2 TV's not working. The knives were poor quality and dull. The property could provide a couple of beach chairs. There were no pens, paper, scissors or surface cleaners available. Again many small issues that could readily be fixed to provide a 5 star experience. We would watch for further reviews before deciding to return to this property. less

Large and comfortable

This was an ideal condo from our perspective - beautifully located overlooking the BBQ area, the “ocean pool”, and the ocean - west facing sunsets. The king sized bed was comfortable and having the two lanais (west facing towards the ocean and east facing off... more the bedroom) were well appointed, as well as roomy. The two bathrooms were nice to have - one of which has been upgraded, the other not. There were various condiments in the cupboards. The kitchen knives, although numerous could use some professional sharpening, and the cupboards themselves could use some attention (mainly realigning a few doors). The TV could be a bit more modern. However, everything (appliances) worked well. The furniture was in good condition. We found the interior to be on the dark side and a more fastidious cleaning could have been done in the kitchen. All that said, we would definitely go back - a great vacation from our perspective. less

Neat Spot

Delightful unit. Exceptionally well appointed and furnished. My second stay at the condo and I would hope to return in the future. The kitchen comes well stocked with all the seasonings and spices and condiments (and utensils) you would need to turn out some fine... more cuisine. Nice view as well. Soothing Surf!

Nothing like going to sleep to the sound of the surf--pretty big at this time of the year. The condo had everything we needed and was convenient to the oceanfront pool. Dinner of BBQ'ed steak at sunset on the lanai--it doesn't get much better than... more that. Great Unit/Great Complex

The condo is clean, well equipped, well maintained. The furnishings are all of tropical woods, like Koa and teak. It overlooks the Ocean Pool area with a great view of the ocean beyond. The landscaping around the condo and throughout the Kanaloa complex is exceptional,... more the stuff of travel brochures. The unit has two new flat panel TV's, though I never turned them on during my recent stay. Internet access is perfect. I had no need to turn on the air conditioner, as there was a continuous cross breeze blowing throughout my visit there. It is a second floor unit which is great for the view, but with no elevator, the stairs might present a problem for someone with mobility concerns. Otherwise, I can't imagine anyone having any sort of concern with this condo. less

Thoroughly Enjoyed!

I stayed in Condo 2503 for a week in November and absolutely loved it. It was still pretty warm so paying for the air conditioning is definitely worth it. The kitchen is well stocked with a good selection of cookware and has good quality dishes... more and utensils, which I appreciate. I'm a tea drinker so I missed having an electric tea kettle but managed to boil water on the stove. Sitting on the large balcony overlooking the ocean became a morning ritual. I loved the grounds at Kanaloa and used the poolside grill nightly then ate on the adjoining patio watching the sunset over the ocean. Can't wait to return! less

Best unit in the complex

Another renter had recommended this unit owned by Al Gulick, having used another of his units previously and happy with the owner's service. This unit has one of the best views in the complex. you are on second story with a lanai view of the... more pool and the ocean beyond. watch and hear the waves crash against the lava shoreline. watch to pods of dolphin swim past. beautiful sunsets each night. an impeccably clean unit. do get the aid conditioning option as the weather can get very humid. bed is firm and comfortable. shower in master and bath-shower in the second bath. kitchen well equipped. comfortable furniture (sofa folds into queen sleeper for guests). laundry in unit is perfect, though the dryer seems to take forever to dry the loads. just remember that this is a second story unit with an interior stairs to the living area. we left our golf clubs inside the front door, not lugging thing to the top. if you are handicapped, consider one of Al's first floor units. Overall, a great place to stay. less

Clean Condo, Great Views

I stayed at this condo for 5 nights with my toddler and husband. It has a king size bed, available blow up mattress and the couch pulls out so it will accommodate more guests which is a nice option. It was very clean and comfortable,... more but is dated (which didn't bother me as long as its clean). We paid for the air conditioning which made a huge difference. The stairs to the condo are on the inside (which I didn't know) and it proved to be quite a pain trying to keep my 21 month old son safe and from falling down them. I called the owner of unit and aloha condos to see if a baby gate was available but never heard back from anyone. I would suggest that you provide a baby gate in the unit to make the stairs more safe. Other than that, we had a great stay and it has a nice view of the pool and ocean. less

Perfect location. We enjoyed listening to the waves crash as we watched the swell roll in. Our condo was very clean and extremely comfortable. Plenty of room to relax and enjoy the fresh ocean air. Great View

can’t imagine that you can get a better view for the money. View from the lanai is better than what is shown in the pictures. Location is about 6 miles from the Kailu –Kona village and there is a shopping center just up the hill.... more The property grounds are well maintained and all of the staff seemed very friendly. Outstanding unit/location with some upgrades needed.

Well kept unit, everything worked well with the exception of the sliding doors at the front and rear. Appears that the tracks/guides are corroded and need replacement. A Great Winter Vacation

The condo was very comfortable, quiet location, and had a perfect view of the ocean from the lanai. We were able to watch the Whales and spinner dolphins swim by from the lanai. The unit was well stocked with dry goods and household items, but... more had no cleaning supplies. A trip to Target took care of that. The Unit does need updating; the bathrooms and kitchen need to be updated with solid surface countertops and modern fixtures and appliances. The bath room tub fixtures/knobs were heavily corroded and questionable every time they were used. The "nineteen eighty's" tile and unsealed grout for counter tops are havens for germs and bacteria. While the washer and dryer are functional, it would be nice if they were updated. We were scheduled for a mid-stay cleaning (and billed $135), however it did not happen, so we did our own cleaning and vacuuming. The cleaning fee was high compared to Outriggers fee for the same size unit. Al reimbursed us for the mid-stay cleaning. Because of its closeness to the ocean, a "salt film" covers everything. All in all, we had a great winter vacation. less

Spacious, private, comfortable; Mbath dated, owner local and available. But aloha Condos charge an outrageous "cleaning fee", buyer beware.

i am not sure why but we did not have a cleaner come the first week of our stay. so we basically looked after ourselves. i do wish there had been more cleaning supplies left in the condo. there was basically nothing. the condo does... more need a good clean including washing the outside patio. the bed was a bit hard but adequate. the owner is very willing to fix anything that needs fixing. the location is great the evenings are very quiet. we loved the view from the patio the best. less

Wonderfully quiet location,amazing oceanviews and absolutely wel

My husband and I Stayed for approximately 10 nights and had an amazing holidya..The resort itself is located at the end of a residetnial area so it is very peaceful and away from the husle and bustle, yet centrally located to shops, tours etc..The condo... more itself is oceanfront and has a spacious lanai with a wetbar that provides access to views of the surf, sunsets etc..The condo is privately owned by al, who was very kind and granted us a late check out and a welcome basket upon your arrival!! We loved, loved the condo it was so well equipped,,the resort itself is well maintained..We give it a 10 out of 10!!! less

9 nights with No Worries!

Yes this unit is good, no worries here,large 1 bedroom, bed is comfortable and a king size, linens were great,fan in bedroomkept things cool with multiple window shutters to use although 2 of them wouldnt open, but im sure that will be remedied for future,... more ensuite for master is older but funtional i used it for all my stuff and getting ready while hubby used the main bathroom. We used the main bathroom shower mostly , also fine but older, everything worked the way it should, even your own back lanai to get morning sun with. Nice chairs for that area and table. no worries there! Kitchen also had everything i needed except a coffee grinder, but everything else was good, large fridge stove, no mini anything.Floors are done mostly in tile that is cool for your feet, but i havent mentioned the best part which was the large lanai overlooking pool and water, you will like this as it is great! again, No Worries! Al Gulick was responsive and easy to deal with and i can reccomend this to anyone exept there is quite afew steps to get up to the unit. we will be back im sure. love kona.ooops i forgot the coolers and boogie boards are in the fron lanai cabinet. bye for now carolyn from canada less

Wonderful sunsets wowed us.

From first to last the service was quick and competent. The furnishings were comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped, the location was convenient. The view of the Pacific was magnificent and overlooking the pool was a plus. It was a short walk to the grocery... more and to the bay. The lack of signs kept our destination a mystery for the first few minutes. less

Day in Paradise

A very nice and quiet location which is perfect for enjoying the

The area is clean and near enough to hear the waves crashing the shores in the evening. Upon arrival an exotic welcome tray filled with exotic fruits was there for us; lilikoi, mango, avocado to mention a few along with the organic garden these were... more grown in. We ate in some evenings, grabbed some local food and brought it back to the condo (poi, lomi salmon, kalua pig, lau-lau available at KTI in the nearby shopping center). We enjoyed hiking in the morning and golfing on the Kohala Coast and quiet evenings at the resort. Kanaloa Condos is very nicely located in a very private setting, we will stay there as long as it remains a hidden paradise for us. less
