Natural attractions on Maui are highlighted by Haleakala National Park (a dormant volcano) and Molokini Islet (a sunken volcano). Nightlife in Lahaina, an old whaling village, is Maui’s best.
Any visit to Maui should include a stop at Haleakala National Park, home to hiking trails, the rare silversword plant and perhaps the world’s most awe-inspiring sunrise. Other recommended attractions on the Valley Isle include the Whalers Village Museum, Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum, Iao Valley State Park, the Garden of the Gods, an eerie rock formation reminiscent of a lunar landscape.
Visit the bustling seaside town of Lahaina and then go south to beautiful Makena Beach and the resort area of Wailea. In historic Wailuku town, you can relive history at the Bailey House Museum and Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens. See the 1,200-foot-tall Iao Needle in Iao Valley, and visit botanical gardens and flower farms in Upcountry Maui. Take the road to Hana to see dozens of waterfalls and panoramic views of the eastern shore. Kids love to ride the Sugarcane Train from Lahaina to Kaanapali while adults appreciate the luxurious atmosphere of Kaanapali Resort with its upscale high-rise hotels set along a pristine white sand beach. Also popular with kids is the Maui Ocean Center where you can view marine life up close.
