Great place
We loved the condo. The view was wonderful. Falling asleep and waking up to the waves washing across the rocks was so very relaxing. We really were impressed by the bathroom and shower. The whole place was well designed and clean. We highly reccomend the condo for those seeking a heavenly Hana experience. Mahalo. Michael

Hana Kai 206 is a great little condo for a quiet stay in beautiful Hana. It is very clean and comfortable, and generally well supplied (however, we could not find spare light bulbs to replace a burned=out one in the floor lamp). We had a great time there and would recommend it to anyone wishing to get away from it all in Hana.

The location was perfect! The Condo was well appointed and the owner was very responsive. Ammenities including boogie boards, beach towels and internet access were greatly appreciated. The lack of A/C could be a serious problem in the summer if there is no breeze, but for us it was no problem in the evening since we were there in December. The bed was very comfortable and the porch was great for sitting and relaxing. We had a wonderful time and would definitely go back the next time we stay in Hana.

We had a great stay at the Hana Kai 206. Lovely condo with easy access to the beach. Numerous amenities, and everything you might need if you were to have forgotten to bring something. BBq'd every night. Spices in cupboard and condiments left from previous tenants came in handy. If staying more than a couple days don't forget to stock up on food items since there are not a ton of options in Hana for eating out or buying groceries. A beautiful place in close proximity to all the local sights of Hana.

When we finally reached Hana after an adventurous drive on Hana Highway, we entered the condo and our immediate impression was "wow". It is a really awesome almost luxurious condo for two at a nice location. Clean, very well equipped, amazing sink in bathroom, no problem with parking. Breakfast and a glass of wine in the evening on the balcony was a good way to start and end a day in Hana. We liked the policy: Buy what you need and if you cannot use it up, leave it for the next one. The location is great: In Hana there are two restaurants, both are more than o.k., one is luxurious but worth the price. There are a lot of things to do at the end of Hana Highway: hiking, swimming and sun bathing at nice sand beaches, horseback riding, organic fruit tasting, great landscape etc. It is worth to stay there and not just to drive Hana Highway forth and back. No need to go back to "civilization" in Kahului. Even the Hana Health Care Center took great care of us, when we had a minor hiking accident. Yes, you can hear your neighbors easily, that is true, and putting a fan in the bathroom would be nice. It was very hot and muggy, when we stayed there. However, our overall impression was very good! We recommend Hana Kai Condo 206 with no reservation. We really liked being away from the tourist crowd without missing comfort.

The condo is in a great location in Hana with a beautiful view of Hana Bay. We fell asleep to the sound of the ocean each night. We BBQ'd every night using the nice, big "communal" BBQ, although we were the only ones we saw using it during our stay. We ate romantic, candlelit dinners every night on the lanai. We were glad we decided to stay 3 nights in Hana so we could take our time getting there and spend two full days exploring. One day after hiking from the O'heo Pools through a bamboo forest to (gorgeous) Waimoku Falls we returned to the condo to drop off our car and walked all of the way to the amazing Red Sand Beach. The condo is decorated in a beautiful, modern, tropical sytle...very soothing. We used the Ipod docking station/stereo system and it sounded great. Cooking spices, games, DVDs (and portable DVD player), CDs, books(including Maui guidebooks), tropical shampoo and soaps all provided by the thoughtful owners, Shayla and Mark. The only thing we didn't like is that we had to leave. We definitely plan to return!

What a perfect way to start a 9-day Maui vacation. Rent a car, drive to Hana, enjoy Happy Hour on the Lanai watching the sunset! Perfect! Take vitamin B-12 2 weeks before going, to thwart the mosquitos, if you plan to explore the jungle & waterfalls. Be sure to visit Hawaii's BEST beach, Hamoa Beach. We would stay here again!

The attention to detail in this lovely condo was amazing...from the intuitive and clearly labelled placement of kitchen items, to the double headed shower, to the king size mattress with individual controls, to the reading lights above the bed, the twinkle lights under the stairs and on and on. I was so taken by the care the owners had taken to make this place special, that I barely noticed the fabulous view and the sound of the waves every night. Rent it, you'll love it.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days during the last leg of our honeymoon. Upon walking inside, we thought the place was gorgeous and very modern, having recently been remodeled. The kitchen is well equipped with a huge fridge, lots of cabinet space, and pretty much any appliance that one might need to make a reasonably nice meal (including an espresso maker and rice cooker!). This is pretty essential when staying for more than a day in Hana, as there is pretty much nowhere to eat in the evenings. The living room is pretty spartan and there is no TV (who needs it?) but they do offer a hard line internet connection (no wireless, unfortunately) with a good sized desk if you are work-inclined. The lanai is a knockout, with an amazing view of a black sand beach and perfect for watching a sunrise at the breakfast table in one of the soft high-backed chairs, or on the extremely comfy papazan chair. The bed is huge, decently comfortable and sits on a balcony overlooking the living room. The bathroom is large and has plenty of space for two. Also, they generously offer beach chairs, umbrellas and snorkel gear for use. I highly recommend this place for couples looking to spend some romantic time together (my wife now affectionately calls the place the f--- shack) but it's prolly not so good if you have kids or third wheels, even though the living room couch is a futon. If I ever go to Hana again, I will - without a doubt - stay here. I have very fond memories of this place... ;)

This place has been remodeled recently and every little detail has been thought of and considered. All the needs and comforts of home are here, including a canvas bag gift (so convenient, because I forgot to bring one!) A very nice place to stay in Hana. There isn't a lot of lodging in Hana so the prices / night to stay can be more expensive than on other places on the island, but Hana is so beautiful that it's worth it, just do it. I recommend beginning or ending your vacation in Maui with a stay in Hana Kai 206. I hope that we can visit again some day!

The view from this condo is amazing and the interior is decorated beautifully. The kitchen has every amenity for cooking and there was even a cooler in the condo we used one day when we went for a picnic. Staying in Hana was a wonderful decision as it made the "drive to Hana" much nicer knowing that we didn't have to return the same day. I would highly recommend this condo particularly if you like falling asleep to crashing waves!

Hana Kai 206 was great- beautifully decorated with a great kitchen and a great view. We loved the seclusion of being away from all the tourists, and the convenience of being right near Haleakala National Park and other beautiful beaches. Our biggest complaint was the lack of air conditioning... it was HOT in August!! I also thought it was fairly pricey for what it was... my husband and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai for $300/night, which was basically what Hana Kai cost, and you just get so much more for your money at a beautiful resort. That said, we had a wonderful experience, and would gladly recommend it!!

Hana is a wonderful place. Was in dire need of some “down time” and the Hana Kai #206 was a perfect spot. Unit was incredibly well appointed and the facilities and beach front location were perfect. We were heading to the busy Ka'anapali side at the end of our trip but really wanted to experience a few relaxing days in Hana...rather than join the masses and make the 1 day round trip. Had a great chance to get to know the small town and visit w/many of the locals. Highlights...day at Hamoa beach, nighttime bbq's on the front terrace, long walks on the almost private beach and the absolute randomness of the Hasagawa General Store. Can not imagine a trip to Maui w/out a stay in Hana. Note: Owners are incredibly helpful and willing to endure ridiculous questions from someone that had no idea what to expect when staying over in Hana. We will be back.

We stayed in unit 206 for 5 nights. I was worried before I came that I would run out of things to do in Hana for 4 days. But it was just perfect - very relaxing. We had to make our own beds, but I liked that feature because I didn't have to worry about housekeeping coming in and moving things around - and I was able to come and go without worrying about anyone else's schedule. (But then, I wasn't the person making the beds) I really appreciated the cooking facilities and the left over items from other guests - salt pepper, etc. We ate two nights at the Hotel Hana Maui - but I was glad to cook for myself the other 3 nights - because the Hotel Hana Maui only changes the menu once a month - and didn't seem to offer any nightly specials. We brought in food from the West side of Maui the first night - because there isn't much to choose from in the local stores. The Boogie boards available in the condo were wonderful. I had never tried one before and it was nice to get to try it out for free. The table for meals on the Lanai was also wonderful - we always had a pleasant breeze and a great view. I was very concerned about whether it would be cool enough upstairs for sleeping. But by running the ceiling fan below at full speed - ponited up - and running the oscillating fan in the loft we were able to sleep just fine. (Maui was having a heat wave during our visit - but I suspect that the temperatures were only slightly higher than normal. we loved the little extras - such as left-over provisions in the pantry (I had to go out and buy rum to use with the strawberry daiquiri mix), and left over suntan lotion in the medicine cabinet. We loved our visit and would gladly return and stay here again.

For Hana, this seems like an amazing place. The apartment was clean and very well stocked. It was reasonably quiet, airy and centrally located. We stayed for four nights in July to end our honeymoon and fully enjoyed our time in Hana. We were able to find food at the local grocery stores to cook at the apartment - although selection in Hana was more limited - and loved eating out at the numerous local road-side stands. Pros: very tasteful decor and amenities, especially the dishwasher! Cons: As with many places in the tropics without AC, the apartment can gt fairly stale smelling.

We spent the first 3 nights of our Maui vacation in Hana Kai # 206. You are always kind of winging it when you book a trip like this based on pictures and other reviews but the Hana Highway, the beautiful views, and #206 all were more than we expected and we had a great time. Hana is a VERY laid back area and Hana Kai goes right along with that. 206 has a beautiful view of sunrise and is only steps from Hana Bay. It had all the little things included that really made our stay enjoyable. Boogie boards, towels, umbrellas, flash lights, coolers, all the extras that make your trip enjoyable because you have the toys and supplies to do whatever you want. Hana Kai overall had a nice barbecue area which we took advantage of and even have laundry facilities which was also nice to have available after a day hiking in the rain in the rain forest. If you are planning on cooking your meals while in Hana, I would advise that you do some shopping in Kahului. VERY limited shopping in Hana. Meat options in particular. The 2 stores in Hana are very cool but small and not a huge selection of meats (steak, chicken, lunch meats, etc...) so stock up before you come. Our 15 year old son was a little taken aback that there was no TV in #206 but the DVD player and the library of DVDs got him through his needy times. Having the internet was also fantastic to keep in touch with the rest of the world when we needed to. We had a great time in 206 and I recommend it highly. Shayla has done a great job creating a place where visitors feel like they are in a home. All the little things you could need are there for you.

Hana Kai 206 is loaded with artistic touches that bring the tropical beauty of Hana inside. We were greeted by a gorgeous flower arrangement on the kitchen counter containing perfect specimens of every gorgeous flower we had photographed on the road trip up. Refreshing after the long drive was easy with the unique adjustable double shower head and luscious coconut soap. The lava rock sink and beautiful rock tiles with turtle impressions really added a touch of elegance. All the spices and little extras we needed were found in the cabinets and even ice packs in the refrigerator - so running out the Hasawaga Store wasn't really necessary. But the store is only just moments away, with lots of history and interesting local information so we visited it anyway. The owners have provided everything you can think of to enjoy yourself while playing and relaxing here and their recommendations of things to do was right on. We photographed fantastic waterfalls just a shortdrive away, captured magnificent sunrises from nearby Koki Beach and off the 206 lanai, plus caught some great waves with the boogie boards provided by the owners. The loft with bamboo A frame ceiling and king sized adjustable bed is beyond comfortable - often its a challenge to not nap your whole afternoon away. The black rock beach at the foot of the complex is loaded with washed up surprises from the sea each morning. Oh and did I mention the coffee tastes 1000 times better sipping on the units lanai at sunrise ? This is by far one of the coziest most beautiful places I have vacationed. Its like you are hidden away in a tropical paradise with all the comforts of home.

The owners even had iced beer mugs in the freezer and romantic candles for the lanai. The little kitchen is fully equipped and we cooked in twice. There is a very comfortable bed and a great shower. The stairs to the loft are a bit steep so I would not recommend this condo to with anyone with a disability. The view is of a black sand beach and the location is great. This very well appointed apartment is on the first floor of the only condiminiums in Hana. We particularly appreciated the condiments etc in the kitchen that made preparing meals much more enjoyable. The one issue we had was the lack of adequate reading lights. As frequent travelers, we found the cost of staying in Maui(east coast) expensive in comparison to travel in Europe. It is beautiful but no more than many other places we have stayed for a lot less money. The vog from the volcanic eruption on the island of Hawaii somewhat spoiled the views so perhaps so we did not see Maui at its best.
Manager response:
Aloha Friends-
Oooops! We are located on the SECOND floor of the only condo complex in Hana :)
We really appreciate feedback from our guests and have responded by installing a reading light by the futon downstairs and each side of the bed has great reading lights that dim for lighting to your taste...

Very relaxing, we felt right at home from entering. All the stuff was ready and waiting for us to spend time on the black pebble beach, my most favorite place on this earth, especially sitting on the lava perch watching the sun rise. The lanai offered a great view in the distance, although you can't tell from the internet photos that another condo is between this one and the ocean just below the lanai railing. The loft didn't offer a breeze so we got rather hot at night. We must be "slow" because we couldn't get some of the lights to work. As remote as Hana is, we brought some of our own food and found just what we needed in the cabinets to make a nice couple of meals. Overall we would definitely stay there again when visiting Hana.

SF Bay area traveler from Palo Alto, CA on 05/16/2009 said:
Hana Kai 206 (which unlike the other sixteen units is administered independently) is a wonderful resting spot in Hana right on the bay, and is walking distance to the wharf and general store where you will pick up food. The owners' attention to detail shows both in their very nice remodeling as well as in anticipating in thoughtful ways the needs of their guests so far from civilization. The condo is perfect for a couple, but also has a futon downstairs. The sleeping area in the loft is very comfortable, and the sounds of the ocean are impressively soothing. Watching sunrise on the lanai over the water isn't so early if you've just arrived from the 48. You didn't decide to visit Hana for the town's activity--you came so that you could enjoy without rushing the drive here, the trails at the park 45 minutes further south, perhaps the black or red sand beaches, and likely for the serenity and peacefulness without the development as elsewhere. For that, HK 206 fits right in, even providing if you wish snorkel gear and boogie boards as well as Kona coffee, a full kitchen, a modern bath, and other amenities. In addition, the owners are personable and helpful, and their website easily navigable. They also provided considerable supplemental information both prior to the trip and in the condo, which augments the research a couple might have done in advance. For instance, don't miss the lunch at Bradda's Hutt's. If you have special needs, they will do their best to accommodate in a thoughtful and helpful way.
