Thanks to Todd and Bic for opening their condo to our family. It was exactly as we expected and suited us to a T! The condo was right on the water with all the accessories that a family of four required. The furnishings were as in the advert and the family enjoyed it all. The beds were soft and cozy and the breeze from the ocean cooled us in the evening. It is very quiet on this location and we were able to enjoy the evenings on the Lanai enjoying the sunset. In the morning the canoes and kayaks go by and we occasionally saw whales breaching. Fabulous! Occasionally people would walk by enjoying the view which was just fine.

The Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet was easy to find from the airport as well as the individual condo 2-102. Access to both the complex and the condo was a simple matter of following the owner's check-in instructions. 2-102 was light, airy and plenty big enough to accomodate four adults. It was well furnished, including beach supplies like boogie boards, beach towels and even sun screen (we didn't realize this at first and added a new boogie board to the collection. We enjoyed the ground floor unit as it didn't require us to haul things upstairs and the unit could be accessed from either the parking lot or from the water side. There was assigned parking and additional visitor parking that was always available. Of the Surf and Racquet club amenities, we used the grilling area twice and the pool once. In our view, the complex is perfectly located with quick access to beaches and Kona as well as to grocery shopping and the main highway for touring. We didn't spend a lot of time in the condo, but we did enjoy having dinner on the lanai and watching the gorgeous sunsets and sometimes whales. As mentioned, the unit was very nice, but we did notice a small ant problem in the kitchen as well as some peeling paint on the kitchen cabinets. Also, a little mold on the bathroom artwork. These were minor things and all and all we really enjoyed our stay.

This has been one of the best vacations rentals I've ever stayed in (and I've stayed in over a dozen). We especially loved the convenient location to the shopping mall, our own private beach (100 yards away), and some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii just minutes away. We loved being on the ground floor and sitting out on the grass or walking out onto the path or sitting out on the picnic table to watch the sunsets. This condo was well equipped (the snorkel/beach gear is a plus), and nicely decorated. We played tennis nearly every morning on the newly resurfaced courts. This location is much more cozy and "local" feeling than being closer to Kona-Kailua town. The sound of the ocean and warm breezes through the screen doors were the ultimate stress soothers. My only wish was that the screen doors could be locked so we could leave them open during the day while we went out for short spurts. But it was easy enough to just open the doors upon return and let the air spread out again. Overall: felt like home, exceptional location, super convenient ground floor lanai access, would definitely come back! Thanks Tod and Bic

We recently stayed at Keauhou Surf and Racquet and very much enjoyed our stay. The unit has a priceless view of the ocean and we already miss the sounds of the crashing waves. Also the unit is very well stocked with everything you will need on your vacation and you will just need to bring a suitcase and the rest will be waiting for you. The Keauhou Surf and Racquet is a very well maintained and beautiful resort with a great pool for kids and tennis court. We would definitely recommend this unit for anyone looking for a great place to stay on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The condo was lovely with great access to the ocean just beyond a grassy lawn & lava rocks...Welcome goodies given us on our entry were very local and sweet gesture! Photos on Vrbo do justice to the unit...it is kept in good condition, very spacious and lovely. Nice to have kitchen with pass through window and view to the ocean. In-unit laundry, and BBQ in common area--both were used! My only recommendation to owners is to provide a few basic cooking ingredients--like oil, vinegar, and a few spices and condiments--and then it would be perfect!!

The only complaint is when vacationers in the 2 units above us are noisy, which they were this time.

The condo was great in terms of the views and the amenities provided. Our only complaints were that the garbage disposal wasn't working and the the screen doors in the two bedrooms weren't able to be locked. In the master bedroom, the screen door lock had been messed with and had been re-installed inproperly. In the other bedroom, the screen on the window doesn't even cover the window, thus we couldn't use the screens at night.

This condo was incredible. It's right on the ocean and close to town. We saw spinner dolphins nearly every day while we had our breakfast on the lanai. Even though we didn't need the second bedroom, how could you resist for this price? The condo had all of the standard amenities you would expect - like microwave, blender, VCR/DVD player, iron with ironing board, ceiling fans in nearly every room including the bathrooms, barbecue tools, pots, pans, etc. What really made it feel like home were the little things you would not expect in a condo like this - immersion blender, rice cooker, waffle iron, sandwich maker, toaster oven, even toothpicks for my Martinis. All you need to bring is the food. The closets were full of boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, tennis equipment, suntan lotions, aloe vera, beach mats, beach towels and an extra fan. (You can really travel light.) There is no air conditioning, but that really wasn't an issue. It doesn't get that hot in Kona, but it does get humid. The condo was not brand new, but it was in good shape. The lanai furniture did appear to be very new and good quality. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

An easy walk to a local shopping center that offers groceries, a movie theater, pharmacies and more. This is a condo to consider when traveling to the Big Island.

There were several problems with the unit. The electrical outlets in both bathrooms did not work, when pluging in night lites or other appliances. Tried to use the electrical outlet in the small bedroom behind the dressor and it sparked when the cord was plugged in, so did not use. The screens on the windows and doors would not close properly, letting in mosquitos that gave my wife numerous bites.

Hawaii 2010 from Colorado on 03/17/2010 said:
Although the location of the Keauhou Surf and Racquet Club is very convenient, the unit we stayed in (2-102) left much to be desired. The beds were comfortable and clean, as was the living room furniture. The bathrooms and especially the kitchen, were very outdated, run down and dirty. Dirty in terms of being so old and run down that no amount of cleaning or fresh paint would spiff them up. This became very onerous during a two week stay in March 2010. The patio furniture was also sub-standard; not even as nice as the chaise lounges at the community pool. It was not pleasant at all to pay the amount we paid for furnishings and accommodations that were barely tolerable.
Manager response:
Dear John,<br /> <br /> Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions. We strive to improve our services and your suggestions are very much appreciated. We had a great time staying here. This unit has a wonderful view of the ocean and you can sit on the lanai and watch the sunset. The condo had everything we needed for our stay to include boogie boards, beach towels and flashlights for the night hike at the Volcano! The swimming pool has been completely redone and is absolutely gorgeous and warm, which I loved since I am not a cold water lover. We used the BBQ area several times, which was great for all of the people we had. I would totally recommend this unit for anyone wanting to stay on the Big Island at a reasonable cost. The only negative with a ground floor unit is having to close up the condo when you go out so its a bit stuffy when you return. However, it cools off quickly with the ocean breeze. This unit stays much cooler than the third floor units. Also, the key card for the gate was no longer there but we just used the key code. I was pleased with the goodies that were there for us on our arrival and the condo is extremely close to the golf course (absolutely beautiful to play)and shopping. The weather was terrific, 86 degrees. All in all this was definitely the best vacation we have had.

Booking and dealing with the owners before arrival was easy and friendly. The Condo was neat and tidy and just right for us - 2 people for 2 weeks then 5 for 1 week. The location was awesome gorgeous views lovely and quiet, the trolley bus and shops were close and convenient. The local contact was friendly and efficient, checking in and out was no hassle at all, it was neat to have it cleaned once a week while we were there. There was washing powder, toilet paper, some toiletries and dishwash powder etc provided which was great. A very nice touch was the box of chocolates and little bag of coffee on arrival, it made us feel welcome. It was nice to have soft comfortable beds too as both my Dad and myself suffer from bad backs, so 3 weeks in a comfortable bed was great. The pool was very very nice!! I swam at least twice a day. One of the best things about staying here at the Surf and Racquet club was the really friendly cheerful ground staff, especially Jim the landscape supervisior and a couple of the younger guys, it made all the difference to our stay and one of the biggest reasons I would stay there when I come back. The best thing about our stay was the friendliness of the people, there was nothing we did not like, it was perfect. Many thanks to the owners and staff that made our stay great. Wickham family

This condo had a great view of the ocean and was roomy enough for a family of four. The condo was clean but the furniture was very dated and a bit run down. We came to this condo on the off-season so the price was reasonable for the condition of the condo. If we had to pay full in-season price, I would've have expected newer furniture and a few more amenities, such as sugar for the coffee. Also, there are very, very strict rules at the pool (example: No unnecessary loudness) which can be challenging with small children.

All the creature comforts you could possibly imagine - all with the Kona coast as your companion. We took things with us completely unecessarily - beach towels, snorkels etc. - because it was all there, thought of, taken care of. W/D which means you can pack less...dishwasher, which means you have to fuss less about keeping the place clean. It was absolutely fabulous!
Manager response:

I believe this is the second or third time we've stayed in this unit. This time a friend stayed in the second bedroom and had a great time. We love to listen to the crashing surf, watch the sunsets during happy hour, watch the birds, and eat breakfast on the lanai. The only complaint is when vacationers in the 2 units above us are noisy, which they were this time.
Manager response:
Thank you so much for your return visit. We are so happy your friend had a great time. We are very sorry for the "noisy" neighbor. We too love watching the sunset and enjoying all of our meals on the lanai while watching mother nature at her best.<br /> Wishing you and your family a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season and New Year.<br /> <br /> Aloha,<br /> Todd and Bic. This is such a great condo to stay in. It is situated on alii drive down near Keahou, really close to a shopping area. The waves are literally crashing just a few yards from your back door. It was wonderful. There is a great snorkling beach (complete with sea turtles) just a few minutes walk down alii Drive, and the condo has snorkling gear for your use. Magic Sands Beach is also just down the street. The condo has a great open floor plan, you will love it!!
Manager response:
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are so happy that you enjoyed the condo and it sounded like you had a great time in Kona.<br /> Come back soon.<br /> <br /> Aloha,<br /> Bic and Todd<br /> Owners, Surf and Racquet 2-102

My stay at this resort was fabulous! I would highly recommend this condo to anyone looking for a great place to relax while enjoying some amazing sunsets and listening to the ocean waves crash against the lava rock from the comfort of the Lanai. In a great location this condo offers easy accessibilty to Queen K and/or ali'i Dr. to travel around the island if you so choose.

Manager response:
Dear Guest,<br /> <br /> Thank you very much for your comments and suggestions. We strive to improve our services and your suggestions are very much appreciated. We have contacted Bruce our local contact and forwarded your comments and suggestions to him. This condo was very comfortable, thirty feet from the ocean with a beautiful view. The owners were extremely nice about early and late check-out. People are not always so accommodating. We would definitely rent it again. It's hard to find a first floor unit with such a great location. Surrounding neighbors were nice, too.

We are in the process of purchasing new lanai furnitures. We are also going to upgrade the furniture in the smaller bedroom. We have contacted Bruce our local contact, and Merwylle, our cleaner and forwarded your comments and suggestions to them. We will definitely improve our amenities, thanks to your input.<br /> <br /> Thank you for your reservation and we do value your comments and suggestions very highly.<br /> <br /> Todd & Bic Aki, Owners, Keauhou Kona Surf & Racquet Club Resort, Condo 2-102

We had the added pleasure of viewing whales passing in front of our condo and one night or early am (it was still dark) we were awakened by a series of slapping sounds and obvious whales blowing air/water as they passed very close to shore. It was cool!

The crashing surf on the lava rocks just outside our slider door was amazing to watch. Great sunset or morning coffee place to sit. The condo was very comfortable and accomodating. Decor is great, my daughter about flipped when she saw it. The condo is only about 20 min. away from Kealakakuea Bay. We rented kayaks and swam with dolphins. We definately want to go back. Aloha

The condo was great. Plenty of room and it came fully equipped. It was very quiet and peacefull with a great ocean view yet only minutes of a drive from the bustling beaches and shopping areas of Kona. Although the condo had no air conditioning, their was a nice breeze when windows and patio doors were open. It was however warm at night when we closed patio doors and retired for the evening.

2-102 Keauhou Kona Surf and Racquet Club is an excellent place to stay. Not only is the condo full of everything you need or forgot to bring, but it has the best oceanfront/sunsets in the area. The lanai is spacious and well furnished for your sunset cocktail hour or afternoon sunning. The kitchen is stocked with all the necessary appliances for anyone who prefers to cook in rather than eat out. The owners provide all sorts of beach stuff including chairs, boogie boards, snorkel gear, flippers! We will definitely stay here again and recommend to our friends.
